Loie Swirls Again!
Goddess of Light was a wonderful story of the life of Loie Fuller, an oft-overlooked but important innovator of lighting and other theatrical effects with great influence in the world of dance. Loie was not only a movement artist and an inventor but a businesswoman, who promoted other artists (i.e. Rodin) in addition to herself.

Loie was successful because she was experimental, resourceful, and persistent. As this book describes in detail events in all areas of her life, we can come to appreciate this woman who capitalized on her ideas and opportunities, to know her personal pathos as well as her enthusiasm for her art. As a woman, I can appreciate the obstacles she worked through and the endurance it required. Thank you, Loie! Buy this book!

Two Outstanding Plays
In Madame Melville a man recalls the night he spent in Paris with his English teacher when he was sixteen years old. He is enthralled by her worldly wisdom and she is very lonely. The interaction between the innocent youth and the mature woman are wonderfully portrayed.

In The General From America Nelson explores the inner thoughts and external pressures that caused the most famous act of treason in US history. Benedict Arnold, Alexander Hamilton, and George Washington, as well as Arnold's wife Peggy and his sister Hannah are all excellently developed characters.

Both these plays are a joy to read and captivating.

excellent
a pocket book that has almost all you need to know. it's concise, giving you just the information you need. Updated from the latest reviews published in journals. If you are not satisfied with the information given in the book, or you think it's not enough, you can still read A TEXTBOOK OF INFECTIOUS DISEASES. remember this book (the same as all pocket books) is best to be used during rounds, or to have a quick reference of a certain subject. You won't be dissapointed.

A Complete Slam Dunk!!
My goodness! I don't think you could ask for a more extraordinarily effective and inspiring rebuttal to the clap-trap about patriotism being bantered about by the current administration and the media.

This book contains maybe the best definition of an authentic patriotism that I have ever read. All three essays are beautiful, passionate, and powerful in completely different ways.

If you want to know what being an American is all about, please read this book!

Intelligent, objective history....
This book presents a reasonably objective "warts and all" account of Phi Beta Kappa. This publication is certainly a cogent and comprehensive history of this society, the progenitor of all U.S. Greek-name honor organizations that followed (perhaps, most notably, Phi Kappa Phi, established in 1897 as the now preeminent national collegiate honor organization to recognize and actively promote excellence in *all* academic disciplines).

Phi Beta Kappa, beginning as a secret fraternal and literary society in 1776, officially became an "honor society" only in 1898, and was/is still limited (in membership selection) to the narrow 18th century classic liberal arts criteria. Thus, scholars whose major (e.g., engineering, business, architecture, pharmacy, nursing, agriculture, computer science, electronics, geography, teacher education, archaeology, commercial art, & many, many other state-of-the-art majors & specialties) is not very strictly considered "liberal arts" (the term is becoming more blurred with each passing year) are sadly denied the coveted Phi Beta Kappa gold key, even if they have a perfect grade-point average! Life ain't fair, as the adage goes.

Nevertheless, the book itself is indeed quite a positive and revealing recollection/compendium of this liberal arts society's ups & downs. One might expect a literary history of a collegiate honor society to be tedious and boring, but that is just not the case here. This book is engrossing and interesting. In many ways, it sheds invaluable light on the broad history of all American higher education!

I rate this book as a "must buy" and certainly a real "keeper". It is wonderfully written, and I recommend it most highly. A worthwhile read!

Everything you need to know to photograph this area
This book is the third in the author's arsenal, and it is just as useful as the other two. The author is a wonderful photographer, just the images in the book would be worth the price, but the reader gets a lot more:
Detailed descriptions of where to go for the best shots, and the best times to go there. For some of the areas, you get a mile-by-mile log, and even some compositional suggestions. Even if one has been to these places previously, this book contains extremely valuable information for the serious photographer.

Great CD-Rom for job hunters and changers!
The CD-ROM version of "What Color Is Your Parachute" is fabulous -- I'd recommend it to anyone who knows exactly what they want to do for a living (for the job hunting tips) but especially for those who don't have a clue, or feel like they have too many great ideas to choose between. I thought I knew what I wanted to do, and after going through the flower exercises, I still learned new things about myself. It's so much easier doing the exercises right on the computer while you are reading, instead of pulling out a notebook and pencil each time (and then not being able to find the notebook the next time, etc.). Dick's video and sound clips helped stimulate my imagination, and the prioritizing exercises always yielded illuminating results. The graphics are great - no boring spreadsheet-looking tables to fill in, just fun white boards and legal pads. And don't forget to print out your "flower" for hanging!

Fantastic Information!
I just can't say enough about this book. Even putting aside the year date on the cover, this book is just JAM-PACKED with wonderful information for anyone wanting to change careers or anyone looking for a job! Not only is the book very helpful and informative, it is very entertaining as well, with cartoons, jokes and quotes that make the reading seem more pleasurable than research.
