Fadren -- Fadrentastic!

Naturalistic fiction has never been so stripped,
a choking ibsenomaic portion;
precocial nautch that grows as it goes.
Strindberg's stronger wiccecræft stronger.

Worth witenagemot!©

Father, a masterpiece...
After writing the Red Room and several other wonderful books, Father is really one of Strindberg's most fantastic work. It is stunning how a person can describe human beings in the way Strindberg does, or did, since he past away over 80 years ago... Just buy it and read it.

A Real Look At the Assistant Principalship
The book is well organized and well written. It presents real life stories, issues, and feelings of first-year assistant principals. The book presents the stories and quotes within a research context and utilizes triangulation of data sources for a more solid "research" basis. It is an excellent book for a real look inside the administrative offices of assistant principals.

If You're an AP, Then You Need to B(reading this)!!
The neat thing about this book is that it has tons of quotes from 1st year assistant principals. It is very easy for school administrators to mock or make fun of authors who have never been where we are; however, this book is nothing like that. The authors give the landscape and REAL AP's fill in the paint. Excellent book.

Excellent insight into the Inupiat Eskimo lifestyle.
Nelson takes you inside the mind of the Inupiat Eskimo like no other author. It as if you are right there hunting on the pack ice, at fish camp, and picking berries.

Subsistence life of the Inupiat Eskimos of Alaska
Nelson has written an engaging account of the year round subsistence activities of the Inupiat Eskimos of Alaska. From whaling in skin boats to chasing caribou with a dog sled, Nelson takes readers into the every day life of people who have developed the skills to not only survive, but thrive, in one of the harshest environments on Earth--the Arctic.

An Excellent Introduction.
The cover alone is worth the price! Each stone in this photograph of 46 specimens of turquoise is identified at the start of the book. High quality natural stones from the most important mines of the Southwest are pictured side by side with treated and plastic versions.

The book is a collection of 10 articles written for New Mexico Magazine. Titles include "Turquoise and the Native American", "Buyer Beware: Hidden Facets of Turquoise", Young Native Jewelers Signal Change of Guard" and "The Plight of Old Pawn". High quality photographs of famous mines, artisans and jewelry, both historic and current, will whet the appetite of would-be collectors but also leave an impression of love and respect for the land and its native inhabitants.

Read this book under a strong light to catch the full depth of color!

A great book on Anabaptist churches in the US.
The authors have done excellent research on almost all anabaptist churches in the US, from the far right to the far left. Good summaries of each group, with church locations, membership numbers, and ranking within the anabaptist groups are included. The authors are perhaps a little bent towards the "transformational" groups, which are on the other end from the "traditional" groups. Positive points of each church group are identified, which help us to learn from each other. The Apostolic Christian Church of America is also included.

A great book for beginners as well as seasoned ceramicists
A wealth of knowledge can be found in this timeless book that covers all the major aspects of ceramics.

For the novice, it covers the the world's history of ceramics. Discusses clay and glaze compositions and gives step
by step explanations of the various techniques from wheel throwing to hand building to making plaster molds for
slip casting.

For the advanced ceramist, there is good information of various kilns and their construction. It offers analysis of
several major clays, frits, and feldspars as well as other useful reference tables including some recipes for
glazes from low fire to high fire.

I first bought the book in '82 as a college freshman and it has proven a valuable aid ever since. It is on the top of
my "required reading" list for anyone interested in getting involved with studio ceramics.

Chased by the author
I'm Hank Nelson, the sole author of Chased by the Sun. I do not know of Richard Green. The book is a paperback.

It has had excellent reviews in Australia, but I'm hardly the bloke to make an unbiased judgment.

I have used the review space in order to make the correction

Leightweight guide - PACK IT IN!
Bought at a visitor center in western New Mexico this tiny book was my lightweight companion (among other humans) during an eight day hike. The black and white drawings are added with comments on habitat and behaviour, size, weight etc. Many of the common mammals of NM are shown: From Black-tailed Jackrabbit to badger, bobcat, peccary. From Porcupine to Bighorn. Even a checklist and the scientific names are included. A very good compilation for the compromise between weight and content. Keep it allways in your pocket!

Authoritative Book on Ancient Iran
I first read the Persian translation of this book many years ago before reading this original English version recently. This is one of the best books available on the civilization of ancient Persia (Iran). Unfortunately, the quality of (offset) (re-)printing does not match the quality of its content. However, given that it costs the price of a modest dinner, it is worth the purchase. I found it quite informative -- even though it was first published a few decades ago. Truly an authoritative work and fun to read if you are interested in the history of civilization.
