Katie O'Roark has just moved onto a beeper for a new heart. All of a sudden her beeper goes off and her parents rush her to the hospital where she undergoes a heart transplant. While recovering, she meets Josh Martel. His brother just died and he and his grandpa chose to donate his organs. SLowly they piece the puzzle together. Can you?

Katie O' Roark is having some heart problems. She needs a new heart, but where would she find it? In the mean time a guy's brother died suddenly, and Katie can finally gets a new heart and can have a new life, and go back to the track team to run again. She wasn't allowed to go run yet,but she's desprate. There is an Olympics thing for people who have problems. Is Katie that desprate she would take a chance? Would something happen to her? Would her "second life" end quickly? I just loved the book. It was hard to put it down. To find out about what happened to Katie read the book Someone Lives Someone Dies.

I've read quite a few books in the One Last Wish series and along with She Died Too Young, this one is my favourite. It is very realistic and with very believable characters. The story just takes you along with it. The main character in this book is Katie who desperatly needs a heart transplant after a virius has severly weakened her heart. It switches between scenes with Katie and Josh, who's brother Aaron dies and ends up being Katie's donor. After her transplant Katie had to fight to become a track runner again. I like the ending of this book because it doesn't all end 'happily ever after' but it's inspiring and uplifting. I recommend this book to anyone.

Of all of the Lurlene McDanilel books that I have read, which is almost all of them, this is my personal favorite. The book focuses on the life of a sixteen year old girl, Kara. She was diagnosed with C.F. when she was a young girl. She has had an on going friendship with a guy a few years older then her for a long time. He is one of her dearest friends. His name is Vince. He also has C.F. Durning the book she starts a relationship with her doctor's younger brother, Eric. Eric and Vince do not get a long, but for Kara's sake they try too. When Kara's C.F. starts to take serve effects on her, she is hospitalized. As a result to the serveness of the disease, she dies very young. This is a very compelling book that I would recommend to anyone. Just remember to have a kleenex box within reach.

ONE LAST WISH-A TIME TO DIE-Lurlene McDaniel Bantam Books 1992 PP. 154
Kara fisher is 16 and dying. Her incurable illness is Cystic Fibrosis. Ever since she was 3 years old, she has been treated daily so that she can simply breathe without drowning in her own mucus. Her friend Vince, who also has this deadly decease, and her new found love in Eric has given her the strength to hold on to life once more, but will she be able to use pure will power to fight off death again? Beautifully written, A Time to Die, shows the emotions of a young girl learning to accept death, and how her friends and family deal with her failing health and unfair death. Lurlene McDaniel truly has captured the emotions of her characters and shown their strengths and weaknesses.

This is diffenently my favorite One Last Wish book, and one of my favorite Lurlene McDaniel books! It is kind of like the movie Here On Earth, only this book is MUCH better! It is about sixteen year old Kara, who has a fatal lung desease. She is really close to this guy named Vince, who also has the same desease. He is obviously in love with her, but she only thinks of him as like a brother. She becomes friends with her therepists brother, Eric, and they eventually fall in love. Vince can't stand seeing her with another guy, but he accepts Eric because he only wants Kara to be happy. When her health takes a turn for the worse, Eric and Vince have to come together to help her through it. It was a great story. I loved Eric and thought he sounded adorible! And I really admire Kara and Vinces's positive attitudes while they are faced with constant danger. Even though they both know that they wont live for very long, they live their lives to the fullest and are thankful for each day God gives them.

I read this close to ten years ago now. It was so sad to read. You really feel for Megan and her family, and you sincerely hope that her mother would hang on as long as she could. This is extremely moving, and if you happen to come across a copy somewhere, I strongly encourage you to read this.

I read this book about five years ago, and I don't remember much about it. What I do remember is that it was great and very heart moving. It was my first book I think I cried about. I thought her family stuck together well through thick and thin.

IM THE KIND OF PERSON THAT DOES NOT LIKE TO READ. BUT WHEN I WENT TO A BOOK FAIR SOMETHING ABOUT THE TITLE THAT DREW MY ATTENTION. WHEN I READ THE BEGINNING OF THE BOOK, I WAS NOT TO SCARED TO GO TO JUNOIR HIGH SCHOOL. YOU COULD SAY THAT THE BOOK GUIDE ME IN A WAY. THE MORE I READ THE MORE I WOULD NOT PUT THE BOOK DOWN. WELL TO MAKE ALONG STORY SHORT, I LAUGHED AND CRIED. I LOVED THE BOOK SO MUCH THAT I KEPT IT FOR A LONG TIME. I REALLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO GUYS AND GIRLS THAT ARE STARTNG JUNIOR HIGH AND HIGH SCHOOL ITS THE BEST BOOK EVER WRITTEN.

Hey,
I'm 13 and was looking for a good summer read. It was short, small, and the summary looked appealing. The book includes romance, sadness, and friendship. The main character starts out at the age of 13 or 14 in the mid 70s. It talks about her crush, her sisters marriage, and her mother's diagnoses' of breast cancer. It's a great book and you can't put it down!! I recommend it for all ages, even my mom is reading it!

This was one of the best books I have ever read. i read it around Christmas Time in 5th Grade. I cried everytime I was nearing an ending of one of the stories. Sadly, I lost the book. But I would love to get another one. Lurlene McDaniel writes very touching books. I've had many friends who have read Six Months To Live and all have said it was one of the best books. I believe them. Lurlene describes vividly, and yet sometimes vaguely in her books. But she touches your heart, and makes you weep. Almost uncontroably. I say, dont read this book in public if your are very emotional. Atleast, dont read the end of the stories. They are the best, but saddest.

This was the first Lurlene McDaniel book I read and ever since I read this, I've been hooked. So far, I've also read the 5 Dawn Rochelle books, Saving Jessica, and am right now on Don't Die my Love. This book is really good though. It has 3 different stories, not one the same as the next. If you want to get a feel for the way the Mrs. McDaniel writes, read this book. All of her books have touched my heart and have brought a tear to my eye. So if you like books like that, pick any of her FANTASTIC books up. You'll be glad you did!

I've owned this book for about a year, and I've read it many times. Every time, I cry. I love Lurlene McDaniel. I've read most of her books and this one is one of my favorites. The variety she has in these three stories was well played. I recmommend this to anyone who loves to cry or just like Lurlene.

I like this book because its about a girl who got Leukemia when she was my age. The girl in the books name is Dawn. She is a very special person because shes nice to almost everyone. One thing i liked about the book was the friendships. Dawn met a girl named Marlee who is about 13 yrs. old at Cancer Camp when Dawn was a counsler. Marlee was really mean to Dawn because she felt sorry for herself. Dawn had a very good heart though, when Marlee got sick and was in the hospital Dawn would visit her every day. Marlee and Dawn became very close to each other. Thats another thing about the book, its very sad because Dawn had friends who didnt have Cancer, and they didnt understand her and when she would get really close to someone who did have Cancer and understood her, they would always get sick and die. I would recommend this book to anyone who has read the other books before this one.

I have read all 5 of the Dawn Rochelle book and I fully enjoyed them all. I would recomend these books to any teen who loves a good cry, and/or a good storie. I would also recomd any other book by Lurlene Mcdaniel. God bless.

I thoroughly enjoyed I want to live. I could really relate to Dawn, having a sister who has acute lymphocytic leukemia. I have seen and made friends with many people like Dawn and I have found their thoughts and feelings to be similar to those in the book. McDaniel's plot is exceptional and I found the book to be very heart-touching. Keep 'em coming, Lurlene McDaniel!

I have read all five Dawn Rochelle stories and they have all been very moving. Lurlene's books give everyone hope in life and this book especially gives u hope. I have loved all the books she has writen and i will continue to read them for a long time. Last night (3/30/02) I started reading "To Live Again" and i couldnt put it down because it was soooo good i ended up staying up until til 3 in the morning reading it! i loved the book and i think everyone else will....i hope u all love her books as much as i do and also that read all of Lurlene McDaniel's books. If u like fiction, romantic, inspirational books...this is the book for u!!!

The fifth book in the Dawn Rochelle series definitely does not disappoint. After battling leukemia since the age of thirteen, Dawn Rochelle has tried to return her life back to normal, one way by going to school. When Dawn has numb feelings in her hands, she doesn't pay any attention, not thinking of it as a problem. One day, in the school cafeteria, she experiences another spasm and collapses. When taken to the hospital, she and her family find out that she had a stroke. Dawn is devastated; she has to learn to talk, eat, dress, and all of the easy things that took no attention in doing. She continues with schoolwork at home, determined to graduate with the rest of her class. Dawn's determination finally pays off and she experiences what it's like to live again. This was an incredible book, a compliment to the other novels in the series. Definitely read this and the other four for a very touching and inspiring story.

After reading Lurlene McDaniel books for 5 years, my first being 'I Want to Live', this is definitely a great book in the series. For the first time in years, it seems like Dawn's life is 'normal' again. Or so she believes, until she finds herself in critical condition again, only not for her past Leukemia. While recovering, she discovers the hard way that other people are worse off than she is. She also finds herself facing a possible relationship with Jake, her crush since 5th grade. This is an excellent book that I loved, and all people who loved the companions should read this.

This book is very good, I read most of Lurlene McDaniel's book and I like all of them, every book has a different story and they're really good, they're really touching and some sad, some of her stories even made me cry. Its Really good, I would recomman this and all of her books to everyone who enjoys reading books.

The book begins with three best friends reuniting at a summer camp that they all formally attended together the year before. This year, Chelsea, Katie, and Lacey are returning to be counselors. The story is mainly told from Katie's point of view so it makes it easier to understand, (but it also tells the story from Laceys and Chelseas 2). At first Katie is struggling with making a decision to either go to a college to run track in Arizona, which is something that she always wanted, or to go to Michigan State to run there, and marry Josh; who is pressuring her to stay. It's a tough decision but what makes it even harder is the fact that Aarons(Josh's brother) heart is beating in her chest. She goes to the camp to get away from him so she can do some thinking, but when he invites himself to stay at the Jenny House. She isnt to happy about that. The three friends run into their problems and they all get solved. Meanwhile, Chelsea tries to get DJ (Jillians twin bro) to notice shes alive, and Lacey wants nothing but Jeff. But when disaster strikes the Jenny House, what do the friends do, read the book to find out.

This is a GREAT book, possibly one of the best I've read by Lurlene McDaniel. This was perhaps the first One Last Wish novel I've read by her, and my favorite. It's sweet, touching, romantic (though not as much as some of her other books) and of course, knowing Lurlene McDaniel's books, amazingly sad. Still all around great!

I have always loved reading Lurlene McDaniel's work, and this book has to be the best yet. I started the book at school one morning and couldn't put it down. I got a few dirty looks from teachers, but hey, it was worth it. Needless to say, I had it finished before I got home!!
McDaniel's style of writing makes you feel like you're part of the book. I think I fell in love with Ethan, too. She truly makes her characters come to life.
I would've given this book 5 stars, but the ending was a little abrupt. And so sad. Almost too sad. It was like the character came all that way only to end up where she started. McDaniel tried to make the ending seem hopeful but it didn't work for me.
I really hope she continues the series. I liked it better than the Dawn Rochelle books, and I think it seems like she left us hanging.
However, I still strongly recommend it. Even though it's sad, it still has the heartwarming style of Lurlene McDaniel.
Read it and enjoy.

This is an excellent book, and I thoroughly recommend this book to everyone of all ages. It explores aspects of life that alot of people will encounter one day in their lives.
This book has great charactisation, and each character grows in each of the books. I loved reading about the characters, and you could really sense the development as you read.
Leah started the story as an obnoxious girl who matured into a smart loving women.
Ethan was probably my favourite character. His innocense in the first book was well handled, and it took him awhile to adjust to the outside world. He was nice, well spoken and never held any regrets about his simplistic life. After all, it was all he knew!
The other characters matured exclusively from Ethan's sister's Charity and Rebekeh and his family. To Leah's mother, Neil and some of Leah's friends.
Love and friendship are the star elements of this story, I learnt so much about love and Amish ways, and how its such an innocent recluse way of life, that is so different to alot of peoples lives.
But ultimately, love prevails - but that doesn't mean you can always be with the people you love. The books started with Leah and her problems with her misunderstood self absorbed Mother who had married 5 times, and it ended with Leah finally accepting her mother ...
