"Sixteen and Dying"- The Best Book Ever Written.
This book was well written. Lurlene McDaniel is my favoriteauthor now. She writes very inspirational novels. I know I am tooyoung to read these books, I'm 12, but this is my favorite book. I can't wait to get the rest of the "One Last Wish" series!

The Most Greatest Love Story
I think this story was brilliant.I mean the details as if she were there.Like she had that kind of love and tragedy in her life like that.I mean in all the books I have read and will read that will be the best.It touched my heart and after I have read it I read it over and over again to see if it happened.I can't believe a real love like that can exist when you are so young.I will never forget this book.I will never forget how Morgan asked her to stay the night or his judgements got the best of him and how brave Anne was to go through all that pain and how lucky to have someone that understands and loves her so like her father and Morgan.I mean i just got this book because a friend was reading this book but it is so intense.Lurlene McDaniel is one heck of a writer!!You need to read this book ! ! !! !!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!! !!!!!!!! !!!!!!

A book you can't put down
When I first saw a girl in my class reading a novel by Lurlene McDaniel I had asked her if I could borrow it. Once I started reading, I couldn't out it down! I just wanted to keep reading some more, I needed to find out what happened next. Once I had finished the book, I felt that it should have keep going(not that the ending wasn't good) I could have kept reading about Anne and Morgan forever. My friend and I have now been lending each other each Lurene McDaniel book we can get our hands on.
Her novels are so insperationel, and I usally end up crying at the end, so keep writing Lurene, I love your books!

Close to Death
A Review by Laura
This story is about a girl named Dawn, with cancer. She wants to live a normal life with out being treated like she is sick all the time. For a while her cancer was in remission, but one day when she went to the hospital for a check up she finds out that her cancer is back.

I really liked this book because I can kind of understand how Dawn feels being a teenager and all. She has to face a lot of different challenges since she has cancer. I also understand how her brother Rob felt and how he had to deal with Dawns cancer. I also thought that Darcy was very selfish in thinking only about her wedding instead of caring about dawn.

I really think people should read this book because it is really good and it kind of made me think a little more about people with cancer or any thing else, and also understand what they have to go through.

I Want 2 Live
This book continues the story of Dawn Rochelle. It takes place about a year after the first book. It's just as good as the first.

Dawns live almost seems to be normal again, she just turned 14, her cancer has been in remission for a year, shes starting to get a friendship again with Rhonda, and that summer shes going to help prepare for her brothers wedding as soon as she returns from the same cancer camp that she went to the year with Sandy, before she died. At the camp, she meets up with Mike, the guy that liked Sandy the year before. This year they pull another prank on Dr. Ben again (although it isnt as good as the year before).

But when she returns home from camp, her tests show that shes no longer in remission. She has to have a bone marrow transplant from her brother. But, even if she does recieve the transplant, theres only a 50% chance of survial. What happens? Read the book to find out.

So Sad and devastating!!
Dawn Rochelle is a fourteen year old girl who is dying of cancer. She tries to act normal by going back to camp for the summer, only to come home to find out that her cancer has reaccured. Her brother is in love and is planning to get married until he finds out that his sister needs him for a bone marrow transplant.Does Dawn make it through the transplant and live long enough to see her 15th birthday?Read this book to find out what happens to Dawn and her brother!

How can teen lit be so good?
With a few exceptions, I read no teen literature-and Lurlene McDaniel is the biggest exception. Her books never fail to make me cry with her tender portrayals and realistic characters.

And I cried when I read about Carrie, a girl with leukemia who befriends a boy named Keith who suffers from cancer as well. Carrie's life and family were torn apart a few years before when her parents divorced angrily, and even now they are afraid to take her to clinics or cancer survivor picnics. Her ditzy mother is absorbed in her boyfriend and her job, and her father is absorbed in blaming her mother.

And Carrie finds a center of peace in Keith's family, which managed to stay together even in the worst times. But Keith is dying from a flare-up of his leukemia, and Carrie must learn to deal with it...

The writing is exquisite as usual, but McDaniel really outdoes herself in the last scene with Keith. Her language is beautiful and expressive, and I could actually see the characters' faces.

All readers will sympathize with Carrie and her broken home, and the parents who don't seem to care enough about what happens to her. A must-read for every teenager and adult alike.

NOW I LAY ME DOWN TO SLEEP
i have read all of the lurlene mcdaniel books and i loved all of them!this one really got my attention though!its about a girl named carrie.her parents just got a divorce and it was tearing her up.Carrie was diagnosed with leukemia and went to a support group.there she gets to know keith gardner.his family becomes quitte close to carrie.keith gets an x-ray and finds he has a tumor in his stomach.the family goes to a camping spot while keith starts to slip away.in this carrie learns what a true family is.i realy recomend this book to all preteens and teens!10-17it really is a 5 star book!

My Favorite
I'm 16, I've read all kids of books from completely different types of authors, but this is my all-time favorite book. "Watching" Carrie and Keith at the cabin as he prepares to die is the most touching thing I have ever read, and that may surprise some people since this is simply young adult fiction... but it's not. I seriously recommend this book to anyone who is interested in medicine or childhood cancer (like I am), or to anyone who just feels like crying.

Dawn Rochelle:Four Novels by Lurlene Mcaniel
I really loved this series. Lurlene Mcdaniel really has a gift to allow her readers to feel what the characters are going through. Dawn Rochelle is a very strong girl and has gone throgh so much. I enjoyed reading about her romances, and cried as I read the pain she went through. I have read the first four books about Dawn and can't wait to read the last book. I highly recommend this book.

!Intriguing and Surprising- different than all the others!
This book by Lurlene McDaniel is definately her best! It is different than all of her others. This book makes you really beleive that you are right beside the characters as everthing happens to them. The dialogue between them makes everthing that much more realistic. There are a lot of "main characters", which keeps you wondering what will happen next and to whom. As you read, you really feel sorry for Dawn Rochelle becauase she has leukimia, and when she makes a friend in the hospital and some more at Cancer Camp, well, you will just have to read it too find out. Even if you didn't like past books by McDaniel, you still might like this one. It is very different than the others!

Outstanding! I love this books!
I love all of Lurlene McDaniel's books(I've read them all loads of times), but the Dawn Rochelle quartet particularly sticks out in my mind. You find yourself so absorbed in these books that suddenly you are sitting in the doctors office with her, or in the chemo room, or pretty much everywhere else. I love the way these books make you feel glad for what you have, but also that anything can happen at any time, and that you have to live life to its fullest. Just when things look like they couldn't get worse Dawn meets Sandy. I loved how Ms. McDaniel made this friendship seem so realistic, they did lots of things normal kids did, but she also made them seem more grown up, like they were past the innocence of childhood. As Dawn became friends with Marlee sometimes it seemed like two normal kids, other times the differences between them and the regular world seemed to be almost insurmountable. Then as Dawn gets older she wants to forget about her cancer, and get on with her life, but she just can't seem to quite let go. I would reccomend this book to anyone!

Jenny and Richard loved each other so much...
Hmmm... How should I start??? Well, I really like this book. It has to be in my top 5 favorite Lurlene books. Jenny was always in love with Richard, and the same goes with Richard. Then, Jenny came down with leukemia, and she tries her hardest to fight this illness. When Jenny became sick, Richard finally found out he couldn't live without her because he truly cared for her. (Sniffs...) Then Jenny goes into remission, but then gets sick again. Soon enough, she made it through the New Year, but died. Later, Richard went to the cave where the two of them use to hang out with each other when they were younger. It brought a lot of memories back to him, and he found a gift Jenny left for him months ago. This book left me so emotional. I recommend you to read it.

Legacy: Making Wishes Come True One Last Wish #1
Dear Future Reader of this book,

This is the story of how the Make A Wish Foundation happened. It is a wonderfully touching story about the value of friendship and love. Jenny is a wonderful character she is loving and generous and realistic. I was profoundly touched and found myself crying a lot. I knew how the book was going to end but every time I read it I wish that it could end diffently. I highly recommend this book.

Great book!!! It will leave you crying for hours!!!
I loved this book, as all of Mrs. McDaniel's books. All of her books are sad, but this one left me SOBBING for hours!! It was so good, yet so sad. I've read it a thousand times and I still cry. I liked it because it was strong and powerful and had great descriptions;among other reasons. You can usually figure out what's going to happen, but it still hits you hard when it does happen. It's a great book, and you absolutely have to read it. But I do recommend you read the first book in the series of Jory Delaney and Melissa Austin; Too Young To Die.

This is a GREAT book! I loved it!
I love all of Lurlene McDaniel's books, but Goodbye Doesn't Mean Forever is one of my favorites. I literally SOBBED when I read it. The way Mrs. McDaniel described everything that happened is really good, especially Jory at the very end. This book is extremely well-written. It's really sad, but it's really, really good. You'll be crying!

A Heart Touching Book
This is a book that I just couldn't get myself to put down. Although the only books I read are books about people who have Leukemia and seeing that most of them are alot alike, this book is still one of my favorites. After I got done reading "GoodBye Doesnt Mean Forever" I went out and bought it that night, and I already owned " To Young To Die".Lurlene McDaniel is my favorite author and not only this one but all of her books are an outstanding message to all of us.I would highly reccomend this and many other books by Lurlene McDaniel.

Telling Christina Goodbye
Trisha had injuries , her boyfriend Cody was left in coma and Tucker (the driver) didn't have any injuries. Trisha's best friend was killed in that accident which will affect Trisha's life forever and won't allow her to have a life of her own. Tucker also lost his girlfriend Christina , he loved Christina and was hard for him yo let go of her. Trisha , Cody, and Tucker will never have the same life like before the accident. I recommend this book to people who like to read about diffrent type of things that happen in real life to people or to people that like sad books.

Telling Christina Goodbye
Telling Christina Goodbye is a great book. I couldn't put it down!! In Telling Christina goodbye Christina's boyfriend is driving a little too fast and he slips off the road. Then he flips the car over on its side. The impact kills her instently. The caracters are Chrisina, Tucker (chrisinas boyfriend), Trisha (chrisinas best friend) and Cody (Trishas boyfriend). What do you think will happen? Will Tucker get blamed for Chrisinas's death or not?? I liked this book because there was always something happening. I read this book in a couple of nights! The author of this book is Lurlene McDaniel. I have read alot of her books and I love them all but i think Telling Christina Goodbye is the best out of all of them!!

Another Great McDaniel Book
Telling Christina Good-bye is another great book by Lurlene McDaniel. All of her books are really good, but in this one you could really identify with the main character, Trisha, as she struggles to "say good-bye" to her best friend by holding on to the memories she has. In the book you feel the pain and hurt when her boyfried doesn't recoginize her, and you can relate to how she is always there to help her best friend deal with her not-so-nice boyfriend. The reader can also feel Trisha's shock when she finds out the accident was really Tucker's fault and in a way Christina's. McDaniel rights stronly about an everyday girl whose life is turned around when a car accident leaves her injured, her boyfriend in a coma, and her best friend dead. This strays from the topic of illness that her books are normally about, but she still keeps the idea about death and how percious our life really is. If anything her point comes through stronger in this novel because the character that died didn't have the prolonged death and chance to say good-bye that most dying characters normally have in her books. The book shows how you that life can be normal one minuet and change in a split second, nevering being the same again.

Angel of Hope
McDaniel, Lurlene Angel of Hope, New York: Bantam Books, May 2002

Reviewer: Cari Kidd
Lurlene McDaniel's book Angel of Hope is an excellent book. The difference in opinions between sisters, Heather and Amber after Heather's return from Africa is exciting. This book shows true love between sisters when Heather becomes ill; Amber takes her place on the upcoming trip to Africa.
Amber's experience in Africa was extremely exciting and death defying between falling in love and getting lost in the bush lands of Rwanda. The run Amber and her friends made was pure bravery and hope to keep their lives. Angel of Hope made an exceptional place in my heart with its love, danger, and hope. A magnificent book for anybody that likes dramatic and romantic styles of writing is Angel of Hope.

Wow. What a powerful book
In McDaniel's book, "Angel of Hope", Heather Barlow is determined to return to Africa on a Mercy Ship. When she falls ill, her only hope lays in the hands of her younger sister, Amber. Amber, who is not as excited as Heather was, begins to fall in love with Africa, and becomes good friends with friends that Heather met on her previous trip. But, Amber encounters a problem while she is visiting a friend's family. What will become of Amber? Read this book if you enjoyed "Angel of Mercy". It's really heart-touching and a tear jerker.

Don't put it down, it's a book you'll read over and over!
I have started to collect Lurlene McDaniel books because they make me laugh, they make cry, they make me feel as if I know and can feel the characters, and her books warms your heart and soul. I don't think I can say one bad thing about her books and Angel of Hope is no exception.
When Heather becomes ill and her mother won't let her go back to Uganda; Amber, her sister, goes in her place. Amber doesn't want to like Africa and she pretends she doesn't until she meets Boyce, Patrick and Ruth. They get into a situation that really tests Amber and her values of life and friendship. Upon returning to the United States, she finds out that Hearther is in no better condition than when she left. Amber struggles with life and the harsh true that she might not see her sister or friends from Uganda again.
I strongly recommend Angel of Hope. It's one of Lurlene McDaniel's best books yet. Life has its ups and downs. Her books portray life as it really is, not how people want it to be. So, you ask why do you want to read a book like that when you are trying to escape from life's problems! That's an easy one. If you have a problem, read one of McDaniel's books to inspire you or make you feel as if someone understands even when it seems no one does. Angel of Hope was well written and easy to read. Read it and I gurantee that you will love this book. I hate reading but Lurlene McDaniel's books put fun back into reading. Angel of Hope is good for people of all ages. So get off the computer and go to the library and check it out. If you really want to take my advise, put it into your amazon shopping chart and buy it or beg your parents to buy it if you aren't old enough to have a shopping cart. Believe me, you won't be sorry!

McDaniel Scores Again With Another Heartwarming Novel
I started reading Lurlene McDaniel's books last year, in 7th grade. The first one I read was Don't Die My Love. Ever since my first spoonful of McDaniel's novels, I couldn't get enough of it. In A Rose for Melinda, she uses a very different unique writing style, with a mixture of journal/diary enteries, conversations, letters, e-mails, instant messages, doctor's reports, etc. and writes with such passion and love. I started reading the book about 2 hours ago and couldn't put it down, and I finished it within an hour and a half. McDaniel makes you feel a part of the story, and makes you feel as if you were one of Melinda's closest and dearest friends. This book is now my favorite book of McDaniel's and one of my favorite books of all time. This novel started out making me giggle, then started to make me smile, cry (a lot), smile more, and fall in love with each character, especially Jesse. I wish all guys were as sweet as him! I recommend this book for anyone in general, but to be specific I recommend it for anyone with friends or family with any serious illness or a friend or family member who has died from one. Trust me, you'll never be able to forget a story such as A Rose for Melinda.

A truly Touching story
Books that are happy yet sad and are loaded with all kinds of emotions are the best type of books to me. Are they to you? Lurlene McDaniel's "A Rose for Melinda" is a definitely that tyoe of book. This book is amazing a total WOW!
"A Rose for Melinda" is the best book I have read all school year. It is so full of very strong emotions. This book may be sort of small but it tellsthe story of Melinda Skye's struggle against a deadly disease called leukimia perfectly. In the book Melinda meets this boy named Jesse. Jesse is vey protective of Melinda. They share their hopes and dreams with one another. When Jesse's parents get a divorce Jesse moves to California with his mother. Both he and Melinda are heartbroken.the summer before melinda goes into the sixth grade she meets this girl named Bailey Taylor.they become best friends.Melinda has always had a dream of becomeing a Ballerina. One summer when Melinda is in a ballet class in Washingtin D.C.Melinda collapses. She then get diagnosed with a terrible disease.Bailey and Jesse are melinda's best friends so they try to cheer her up. Melinda does everything in her power to overcome this treacherous disease.
I love to read and I have read so many good books in this school year alone.i found one of Lurlene McDaniel's books and after i read one, I continuously searched for more books by her. When i found "A Rose for Melinda" I didn't think I would like it, but I do I love this book. It has so many emotions in the frist few chapters that i was pulled into it. I read this book in not even two days. This book is great, no not great, amazing totally amazing!!! This book is definitely a five star book!

Heart-warming story about a ballerina w/ hopes and dreams
A Rose for Melinda is one of the best books i've ever read!! being a dancer myself, it made me realize how lucky i am that i have the oppertunity to fullfill my dream as a professional dancer one day. Melinda had a great family, a friend, Bailey, and her best friend from 1st grade, Jesse Rose. When Jesse's parents get divorced, Jesse and his mom move to California. when Jesse find out that Melinda is sick w/ leukemia, he sells his skateboards and all of his baseball cards, trying to raise enough money to come visit her. (is that sweet, or what?) when he gets down there, Melinda and Jesse realize they are more than just good friends. once they realize their true love for each other, Melinda finds out that she has stopped responding to treatments. Jesse flys down to be w/ her during his summer break, and tells her he will never let her be alone through all of this. it is such a sweet book, i never wanted to put it down. picturing Jesse and Melinda's love for one another made me realize how much i truely love and value that one special person in my life. everything Jesse would do for Melinda would make me feel so...i dont even know how to describe it...but it made me feel wonderful inside. this is by far one of the best books out there. a must-read for any dancer, or anyone who loves a good heart-warming story. make sure you have a tisse box handy though, i made that mistake, and my pillow still has tear stains.

This is a story about life, love, and friendship
This is the sad, triumphant story of Melissa Austin and her fight with leukemia. When she discovers that her tiredness and ugly bruises result from cancer, she realizes who her true friends are, and how important her family is. She misses a lot of school, and almost gets taken off the school's Brain Bowl team, which is her ticket to scollarships and collage. At first, she doesn't know how to cope with the cancer, and feels depressed and unable to fight. But then, she meets a guy that's in the hospital for cancer, too, and he helps her to think positively so that she can beat the disease. Her family and best friend, Jory, help her to fight the cancer, and they encourage her to fight back for her place on the Brain Bowl team. This was a very touching story of love, life, and friendship. The reader cries and cheers with Melissa in the course of her battle against cancer. It shows true friendship and loyalty during hard times. It also shows a family who love her and stay together when trials come along. This story is a very good example of real-life things that can happen to anyone.

Good...
Beautiful, nice, and intelligent are all words used to describe Melissa Austin, the main character of "Too Young to Die." She's a junior in high school - and made the Brain Bowl team - a major accomplshment because only seniors make the team! She'll be the first junior ever!

When Melissa starts to feel sick and she gets mysterious bruises on her legs, she goes to visit the doctor, and the diagnosis is almost unbearable: she has lukemia. When Melissa starts to go through chemo treatments, she's always sick and her beautiful hair is falling out. During her chemo treatments, she meets Ric, a college boy who is missing a leg due to bone cancer, and Rachael, a spunky four year old with cancer...but loads of spirit.

Melissa's family is great, and her best friend Jory is always at her side. Jory tells her about the boy in school that Melissa likes, and Michael (Melissa's brother) tries his best to comfort her.

I liked this book, but it's pretty predictable, and I really couldn't stand the relationship that Melissa and Michael share. It's too close and lovey-dovey...in a way, it seems sort of incestious.

Overall grade: B+

Too Young To Die
Melissa Austin is a normal girl with not so normal problems. Melissa is sixteen and is faced with a terrible disease. She uses the disease to find herself and become stronger. This book is a great book because it uses so much detail in discribing situations. You almost feel the pain the pain that Melissa goes through. The author allows you to get in touch with Melissa and feel what she feels. This book is different from the other books that I have read in the since that I have never read a book that has so much feeling and compassion. The book touched me in many ways. I thought it was a very good book and would reccomend it to any one with a soft heart, and likes happy endings. Melissa has a really hard time dealing with her disease. "It was if he'd told her it was her fault she hadn't been forwarned about her diagnosis. Her anger flared again."(p62) She tried to blame everything for her being sick. When finally she came to terms with the tragity she was faced with. This book would not appeal to everyone. If you do not like sappy stories this book is not for you. I deffanitly think this is womens book.
