Didn't spark my interest
If you happen to have a copy of the out of print book LIGHT ON C.S. LEWIS, you have basically all the comments that Lawlor has to give about his memories of the man. As for the commentary Lawlor gives on Lewis's books, I found it uneven. Unlike the lucid Lewis, Lawlor's sentences are often murky and their meanings difficult to understand. His commentaries on Lewis's books didn't really enlighten anything. I have been an avid reader of Lewis for a long time, and this is the first time I bought a book about Lewis in which I returned to the bookstore for a refund when I was finished.

Dry but informative nonetheless
Unless you are truly interested in Lewis and Clark or the early travels out west, I would have to say to stay away from this one. This novel contains lots of information about the travels to the west and neighboring tribes along the way, but there was not as much adventure telling that I had thought would have been there. Sure, sometimes I was on the edge of my seat, but most of the time I was just trying to pass through the imcompetent nonsense that was written in the book.

A very thorough history of the Lewis and Clark expedition
This book will be good for those who do not want to read the journals of L & C but want a complete, thorough report. The book gave many specific details, and often got sidetracked off into extra tidbits of information. For those looking for just a general overview of this journey, this book is not the place to find it.

A work of scholarship
Of little interest to the average reader, this work, while reflecting enormous work, does little to entice or offer anything we didn't already know.

Myth, Allegory and Gospel: An Interpretation of JRR Tolkien, CS Lewis, GK Chesterton, Charles Williams

Authors: Edmund Fuller and John W. , et al. Montgomery
Amazon base price: $15.00

Short on the insight that I sought
I purchased this book because as a fan of both Lewis and Tolkien, I had hoped to gain better insight into the meaning behind their writings. I would say that my search for insight has only been slightly satisfied.

Myth Allegory and Gospel is a collection of six essays written by authors who describe themselves as "fans and scholars" of the works by Chesterton, Lewis, Tolkien and Williams. The essays are:

-Apologist of Eucatastrophe by John Warwick Montgomery
-Chesterton, Madmen and Madhouses by Russell Kirk
-Charles Williams' Novels and the Contemporary Mutation of Consciousness by Chad Walsh
-After the Moon Landings: A Further Report on the Christian Spaceman C.S. Lewis by Edmund Fuller
-The Chronicles of Narnia and the Adolescent Reader by John Warwick Montgomery
-Mythic and Christian Elements in Tolkien by Clyde S Kilby

Most of the essays speak of the Christian meaning of the books as if the reader already knows what the particulars are, so examples of the Christian meaning are rarely given. Furthermore, the writing style of some of the essays are similar to a research paper that I wrote in the eighth grade. Numerous sources are called upon in a disjoined manner in an essay that is difficult to follow. The exception is the essay by Kilby in regard to Tolkien's works and the essay by Mongomery in regard to Lewis. However, only the Kilby essay actually cites the Lord of the Rings to give examples of the Biblical connections that the other essays just assume that the reader already knows.

If you are looking for a collection of essays about the works of these authors, then this may be the book for you. But, if you are looking for more insight into these books, I would suggest that perhaps another book would be a better choice for you.

DONT BE FOOLED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TREVOR BROWN IS IN NO WAY ASSOCIATED WITH THIS BOOK, I AM A TREVOR BROWN FAN AND THOUGHT THIS BOOK MAY HAVE DRAWINGS OF HIS TO COMPLEMENT THE BOOK....WRONG!!!!!!!!!!! THE ONLY THING OF TREVOR BROWN IS THE COVER, THAT'S IT. THE REST OF THE BOOK IS A BOOK, NO PICTURES OR ANYTHING ELSE, JUST A STORY. DONT GET THIS BOOK THINKING THAT THIS IS TREVOR BROWN'S EDITION OF ALICE.

Dont get it for the Trevor Brown Credit
I was misled by the Illustrator credit. I am a huge Trevor Brown fan and when I found he had "illustrated" this edition of Alice In Wonderland I was estatic! Imagining the possibilities his twisted and beautiful style could create with the already bizzare images from the book. Well his involvment amounts to the COVER OF THE BOOK! No other Trevor Brown illustrations are present in this tiny volume. The book itself is quite small. I was also irritated that regular ground shipping cost me MORE than the book did! Steer clear and buy a cheaper copy if all you want is the book.
