As the primary supporter of a bipolar family member, I've learned many of these lessons the hard way over the years. Even with that long experience, I found new insights here. My experience strongly supports the authors' premise that the patient and his/her family are THE critical elements in a favorable episodic recovery and long-term maintenance. Though written for the clinician, Bipolar Disorder: A Family-Focused Treatment Approach is easily understandable and usable by family members and patients. I highly recommend it for both.
Give this one a quick read, it was worth it for me.
Friesen outlines a very clear, logical and systematic process for selling ideas within a company. He gives real-world hints on completing each of the steps within the process, so that readers can develop clear plans for selling their own ideas in a very methodical fashion. The approach is common-sense, but one that most do not employ because of a myriad of reasons Friesen identifies, including organizational defensiveness, egoism, personality traits and just plain ignorance of its importance!
Friesen's book includes lots of anecdotes and cases that we all can relate to easily. These illustrate the fact that one of the most amazing things about this book is that it wasn't written before--the topic is so critical, that one would expect others to have addressed it before this. But Friesen's is a first, and the guide is so definitive that others will not be needed. This is it! A must read.
This book provides clear and productive ways of selling your ideas. Organizations and individuals tend to be defensive and reluctant to consider new ways of doing things. The Internal Sell describes typical rejections an individual will face and how to overcome them.
Here's what you can expect from this book:
Lack of understanding of the RESISTANCE of three important realities - organizational defensiveness, differences in personality types, and misinterpretation of power and authority - causes people in many organizations to "give up", get frustrated, "moan and groan", or just take their ideas elsewhere. You can expect from The Internal Sell a new sense of CONFIDENCE in a proven approach that will allow:
* Creativity to abound
* Productivity to increase
* Morale to improve, and
* Innovations to occur at a rate that will surprise you.
The concepts and methodology of The Internal Sell work equally well whether you are INSIDE an organization trying to get your good ideas adopted or OUTSIDE as a sales person dependent on someone in the customer organization to be skillful in selling your idea.
The principles within The Internal Sell are also perfect for the organization that has committed millions of dollars for SAP or some other comprehensive enterprise-changing system. It's still the PEOPLE, their CREATIVITY, and their COMMITMENT that will make these massive investments pay off. The Internal Sell will help you to understand how to make your organization OPTIMIZE individual contributions.
I highly recommend this book to readers in all types of organizations and all levels of the organizational hierarchy.

I am a navy sailor and I have spent most of my time not realizing what that ment. I read this book after 9/11 and it helped me understand the sevarity of war and how tragic it is.
And even though it might be thought that I have a biased opinion towards my father's book, this is one that you will not put down!
You will not put this book down until David's final liberation. This book is a tribute to his zest for life. Through all the death and destruction David never lost his faith.
David Gilbert is a true hero. His story makes personal what now seems so far removed. It should be read by all those who want to learn from the inhumanity of the Nazi era. This book should be required high school reading. David's story is about life and one man's triumph over incredible odds.
Now I'm going to check out his other book. I bet it's just as good.
Highly recommended.
I found Smith's personal web page and emailed him; he is willing to autograph copies too. Get this book, not just at Christmas, but for year round reading too. These stories should be on TV; they'd make excellent specials.
Stories From the Manger is part "Christmas Box", Jimmy Stewart and 'Wonderful Life', Scrooge, and Charlie Brown. Very good book indeed!

However a lot must taken with a grain of salt. Some of the events/person he focuses on are not approved by the church if not banned. Plus it would turn off any non-Catholic with his "the Catholic church is the only True church". Many views are that of a very conservative Catholic. Much is written from the defence of the church- not mentioning the many things the church has inflicted on the world and why people fell away. However the chuch has been bashed a lot over the years and its a nice change to see a defence.
I'm surprised he calls himself a biologist and chemist because he calls many recent inventions such as the internet and the computer as the root cause of the many evils of todays world. Plus he has no love for Darwin, which any biologist has to give credit for many scientific advances today, plus the Pope even recognizes the great quantities of scientific proof (for creation of everything but the soul). He forgets that many of todays tools are double edged tools and the use is determined by the person using it.
You read his version of the anti-Christ and you wonder if we the U.S. are it.
To awaken to one's own blindness, is a sad thing.
Michael's excellent literary skills makes for clarity in understanding what has not been understood. Many important details have come to light without which it is difficult to understand Her. It is a book you cannot put down at day's end.

It is very heartening to see an Interventional Radiologist (Goodwin) and a Gynecologist (Broder) COOPERATING to provide COMPLETE information about fibroids in ONE book. Too frequently, these two branches of medicine appear to be competing with one another, even trying to discredit one another, on issues relating to fibroids and treatment of fibroids. There are treatments for fibroids which involve each of these doctor's specializations. Together these two authors make it possible for women to consider the options based on the knowledge of doctors who support what is best for the PATIENT rather than what is best for the individual doctor's ego or pocketbook. This book does that and does it splendidly well. Broder and Goodwin together set out both the pluses and minuses of the various available treatments and what's appropriate when - regardless of whose specialty each treatment lies within.
The authors even cover what's known about treatments of the future including some currently in clinical trials. Goodwin and Broder also discuss lifestyle changes, suggest ways to implement some of them, and what effects one might or might not realistically expect from such changes. The book is rational rather than emotional.
Although this book is written by doctors, it is clear, concise, easy to comprehend and complete. It is not preachy. It does not talk down to the reader. These authors understand their audience and are able to effectively communicate needed information.
