This is a great book, filled with lots of stories. We used to read a different story out of it every night. I'm sorry to see that it's out of print, but luckily I still have a copy of it to read to my children.

I love this book as much as my 3-year old does....it is a short read, with beautiful illustrations. A simple story, very nice before bed.

Hollows has produced a cutting-edge feminist analysis of feminine popular culture including such topics as fashion and beauty practices, women's film, etc. that were regarded by many second-wave feminists to be more "feminine" than "feminist". Hollows has re-examined the feminine/feminist dichotomy to explore how they have been constructed as competing or opposing social pressures. She is examining the tension between wanting to hold on to the identity "feminist" and wanting to see how feminism can be understood differently for multiple generations of women.

Feminist cultural criticism has relied heavily on the idea that a politically correct feminist identity can deconstruct other feminine identities as "invalid". A popular perception is that a feminist "leader" will instruct "ordinary women" in the error of their non-feminist ways. If feminist intellectuals are trained, educated and committed to raise the consciousness of other women they should therefore be committed to "redeem" others from their servitude to interests such as fashion. Hollows believes that much of this black-and-white thinking comes from traditional views of production/consumption issues and how the dichotomous perception of these issues has produced gendered identities of those who are associated with one or the other.

Hollows has a clear and readable style of writing, despite the academic orientation of this book.

FINAL APPEAL is a wonderful blend of edge-of-your-seat suspense, romance, and humor. Joanne Fluke is in a league of her own.

GOOD NEWS: Ms. Fluke's latest mystery, the first in a series, THE CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE MURDER, will be published in April 2000.

Susan Tooke's museum quality paintings perfectly showcase Joanne Taylor's gentle, lyrical story explaining all of the phases of the moon and how time is measured by them in Full Moon Rising. Young readers ages 5 to 8 will learn where the saying "once in a blue Moon" comes from along with many other stories from moon-based mythologies. Enthusiastically recommended for family, school, and community library picture book collections, Full Moon Rising is further enhanced with a list of names used for full moon's throughout the world, and which reflect the climate and seasonal activities of different cultures.

Full-Color Victorian Fashions is excellent. The book is exactly what I was looking for. There are a few pages of history, but mainly the book is pictures of victorian fashions. I have other books that deal with the in-depth history of fashion, but when you are wanting to "picture" what types of colors they might have used, the trims, etc. this book becomes very useful. In this case a picture is worth a thousand words.

this one is a classic. most academic books are not well written and can be a chore to read. i read this one in 4 days. it is about the furious flowering poetry conference that took place at james madison university in virgina in 1994, which paid tribute to gwendolyn brooks. it was also a hotbed for poetry readings, workshops and for people who simply loved poetry. some of the standout essays and interviews in the book are : kalamu ya salaam's essay on the work of langston hughes, the black poet of the ages; the author's interview with gwendolyn brooks, as she talks about her 5 plus decades as a writer; a stirring magaret walker interview,and an essay on don l. lee's " a poem to complement other poems. " jabari asim concludes with an insightful essay that speaks about the future of black poetry and what would be poets need to do to elevate their craft...

I'm not really a big reader usually, but I literally couldn't put the book down. I had to see how the teachings of Mr. Savant would benefit young Tim. The fantasy world of Sir Verity was wonderfully described with vivid detail. The practical lessons in life can really help young ones to get through the tough times.

From the first page one senses that this is a writer who has created a unique world, and who tells of it in a unique voice. The stories are beautifully translated - every sentence is alive.

Eppel was born in 1935 and worked most of his life as a translator of Polish literature. These stories were written 1979-80, and were first published in Russia only a few years ago. They chronicle the life of a down-at-heel Moscow suburb in the 1940's. The subject matter is often sordid, but Eppel writes with tenderness, humour and vitality.

I found this to be a very lovely book. I didn't want to finish reading it, so when I did, I started reading it over again and found it to be just as enjoyable the second time. In fact, I am planning on reading it again! Joanne shares some of her own experiences in life, which any of us can relate to with no problem. It makes a wonderful gift, as there is something in it for everyone.
