Fun and Functional
This book, with its engaging story and interactive flaps, is fun to read for parents and kids. Under certain words are hidden pictures of the word on the flap. Kids can even learn to read a few words with this book. the story is repetitive which kids love. One of my daughter's favorites.

Lasting Values
My "baby" graduated from High School this spring. I still believe this is her all-time favorite book. She can recite the sing-song lyrics by memory and the illustrations are vivid in both our minds. I enjoyed reading this book over and over, and will carry memories of those snuggly times on the sofa with me forever. It's a classic that should be in every family's collection.

Review
This book was about a little girl that lost her mitten while she was outside playing in the snow all day. She decided to trace everything that she did that in so that hopefully she can find her mitten. She went everywhere looking for her mitten. She had quite the imagination on her. One of the thoughts she had was that an animal stole her mitten. She has many ideas of what happened to her mitten that she lost and all of them are very imaginative. It starts to rain so she decided to go in to get out of the rain. When she goes inside she sees that the snowman she built is melting away some. Her mitten was in the snowman and as the rain melted the snowman her mitten appeared as his heart.
This book is a very cute tale and is a great book that will keep children's imaginations going right along with the girl who lost her mitten. It has great colorful pictures that hold children's attention also. The author really shows imagination with the ideas that the little girl thinks of for where her mitten might be. This is a book that children will love. This book really grabs your attention with the imagination and the pictures in it.

Fun Story
This imaginative story is about a little girl who spends all day building a huge snowman and playing in the snow. When she realized that her red mitten was missing. She could not bare loose another mitten seeing how every winter thus far she had lost one. The little girl decides to retrace her steps that day and she came up with fun ideas of where her mitten could be. While on her mission she finds various other articles that belong to her friends with whom she spent the day with, but her mitten was no where to be found. After searching high and low it starts to rain. The little girl goes inside in an attempt to get out of the slushy mess. After the rain passed the little girl went outside to find that her mitten had gotten stuck in her snowman when she was building it. The mitten was visible now that some of the snow had melted from the rain. The snowman appeared to have a very bright red heart.
The author had to have been so creative. This story allows the kids to follow the little girl through the search of the mitten and guess along with her. Then the fun ending supplied a great surprise and meaningful finish. The snowman was made with love.
I liked this book because it was easy to follow and the fun plot and great pictures would easily catch a child's attention and keep them interested and guessing throughout the book. I found the pictures to be beautiful as well. Steven Kellogg has always been a favorite illustrator of mine.

Greatly Improved Missing Mitten Book
Well known Children's book illustrator, Steven Kellogg, has just freshened his "Mystery of the Missing Red Mitten," first published in 1974, with a new "The Missing Mitten Mystery." The brightly colored Steven Kellogg illustrations make this favorite tale memorable. Especially nice are the sunset hues of bright yellow and orange, as they appear in the sky and are reflected on the bule snow. Ralph has just lost his fifth mitten of the season. He knows he is in trouble, so he begins the search, which comprises the majority of the story. At last, he gives up and goes home. Later, he looks through the living room window, and sees the snowman he had built that day. The snowman has a mysterious red spot on his chest. He has sported a red mitten heart! Mystery solved! This book is perfect for gift giving, along with a pair of red mittens of course. Ages 3 to (whatever ages kids stop losing their mittens), would enjoy this tale. "Mitten Tree" by Candace Christiansen, "The Woodcutter's Mitten" by Loek Koopmans and Jan Brett's "The Mitten" would be good companions to this updated story.

Brilliant - as usual by Francine Pascal!
This is definently a must read- although more mature readers may find it a bit babyish. It taught me to be independant and not always tag along with my friends (in the book it was Elizabeth who did not want to lose her sister, Jessica). Also it was not like a fairy tale it was not something that you could not relate to. All the episodes in the book were things that could happen to anybody. I thought that the Author should have stuck to one story line instead of using two- Elizabeth and Jessica growing up and Ballet classes. I think that it should of been just about them growing up and how they changed in Middle School when Jessica started getting worried about her appearance and what the popular crowd thought of her. Jessica started putting her popular freinds in the Unicorn club ( which she manages to get into) before her very own identical twin sister. This makes Elizabeth very upset as she doesn't really like all those glamorous girls! And they should've made another book about their ballet classes and joined it to the sequal. But all in all I loved the book. I am a great fan of Sweet Valley.

Elizabeth and Jessica are growing apart
This book is a great book to begin a fabulous series. Jessica and Elizabeth, identical twins sisters have shared everything for 12 years. Now Elizabeth thinks that they are growing apart. After all, Jessica wants to join the snobbiest group of girls who are in a club that is called the Unicorn club. Elizabeth on the other hand thinks the club is silly after she attends just one of their meetings. They just talk about her least favorite subjects: boys, clothes, and make-up... boring. So what it's just one little thing right? Well it's alot worse than that. Elizabeth is starting a sixth grade newspaper called the Sixers. Jessica thinks this idea is boring. She would rather spend her time with her popular friends. Elizabth is really hurt when Jessica says no to the paper. Soon the twins aren't even dressing alike. What will happen to the twins?

It was TERRIFIC!!!!!!!!! 5 pluses! 100 out of 100! An A+!
Jessica wants to join the Unicorns, a group of girls who consider themselves the most popular and snobbish girls in school. Anyways, Jessica has to play pranks on her sister. Meanwhile. . .

Elizabeth finds and joins the school newspaper, and makes some new friends. Will Jessica make the Unicorns, and still be with her twin, or will she be a social outcast forever? Will Jessica and Elizabeth's twin bond go to waste? Will Jessica and Elizabeth's friends get along? Well, read this book and find out the answers!

A Fairly Good Story
A nice story with good illustrations suitble for 3-8 yrs. Several mice, wanting a new life free of opression, set out to sea to find a peaceful island. Upon their arrival, they discover footprints belonging to what they believe to be a large beast. They set out to remove the beast from the island, only to discover that all was not as it seemed to be. The story ends happily.

The story runs a bit long, with several mice characters exchanging dialogue--it can be hard for children to keep them straight--but story is positive, and pictures are funny to look at.

Mice get away
A review by Jessica and Eric The Island of the Skog by Steven Kellogg.

Our favorite book is The Island of the Skog. Rodents wanted to sail to freedom, but they went the wrong way . When they landed they saw a giant footprint, and became very, very frightened! They planned to catch it. The plan worked; however they found the monster was tiny and friendly! We are third graders who would like you to read this book.

Where would I be without this book
This was my very first book. I remember having it read to me many times over. I love the illustrations. They are so textured, all I have to do is look at the pictures to bring me back to when I was small. The story line is great, I love the little poem at the end. And I really can't say enough for the illustrations, they really made the book.

Good story, but a little too scarey for small children
I originally brought this version of Jack and the Beanstalk home from the library to see if my 4 year old grandson would like it--he loved it so much I purchased it. This version is similar to the one I remember growing up with, however, when I read it to him I eliminate/improvise over the sentences that I think are way too scarey for a small child (eating boys on toast for breakfast, broiling calves, etc.). Even tho I think the illustrations can be a little frightening for smaller children, he doesn't seem to be bothered by them. And, all children love "fee fi fo fum, etc." and like to be scared just a little bit.

Good version of this fairy tale
I thought this version of the fairy tale was very well written. This is probably my favorite version out of the ones I have read before. It has been my favorite fairy tale since I was just a young little boy. I always liked to hear my mother and school teacher read the story out loud. My favorite part used to be when the ogre said, "Fee! Fi! Fo! Fum!" I remember when my kindergarten teacher used to walk around like a monster when she read that part. The pictures in this version are also a couple of the better ones I've seen in other versions of the fairy tale. I thought the author of the book was one of the best because he was pretty good at telling the tale and he also used detailed pictures. The pictures would be enough to scare little ones and make them laugh at the same time. The pictures were probably some of the better ones you will see in other versions of this fairy tale.

A good version of a traditional fairy tale
I read this book to my Pre-K class and they ask for it over and over again. The illustrations are good, kind of comical and scary at the same time. I enjoy reading this version because it stays true to the original language of the story :"Fee Fi Fo Fum, etc." You don't find this in every version.
