Pinkerton takes a WILD hunting trip!
This book is about Steven Kellogg's dog, Pinkerton, who goes on a picnic which turns into a strange hunting trip. The illustrations are terrific and help to make the story come alive. This is one of the best of the Pinkerton books.Trust me, I have read the books!!! If you are looking for a book to make you laugh, you will really like this book.
Tally Ho Pinkerton is terrific!!
My family first learned of "Pinkerton the big, clumsy Great Dane dog", while standing in line to sign up on a waiting list for another children's book title by Mr. Kellogg at our public library...we were enthusiastically informed by the younger folks in line that "Pinkerton rules!" So we put our names in for the same book also. We eventually loved reading it together so much, that we bought the hard cover copy for our home. Now that we have our first grandchild, we can start another generation on "Pinkerton Mania"!! Of all the Pinkerton books, and we love them all...this one is our favorite!

Mr. Tom, You're Silly.
This is a retelling of the classic folktale about a young man who agrees to marry a young maiden, but only after he had found three people who are sillier than she. Thus he begins a quest that leads him to all sorts of strange places where he meets many silly people. But in the end, the suitor learns that it is he who is the silliest of them all.
The illustrations are wonderful and really make the story come alive in a real, but humorous way. I love the cat, he has some of the best lines in the whole book.
I loved this book because of the old folktale, but it's still a great story for modern kids. My younger siblings enjoyed the story, even though they called parts of it strange.
A wonderful classic folktale for children and adults
As one of the classic folktales, this story is fascinating both for children and adult. Children will find the story amusing and easy to follow. The story is a good selection of the noodleheads.

won't somebody play with me?
wow! i have been searching for this book for ages! i can't wait to read it again. i have vivid memories of the super-brill illustrations that while sometimes horrifying, always intrigued me for hours. if my memory serves me correctly, there was a particularly fascinating picture of rats choking on bubblegum pancakes...but don't let this scare you away! i was a very sensitive child, and still adored this book. its story is easy to relate to at any age...we all have experienced that moment when our imagination runs ridiculously wild...and of course, despite the panic, it all works out in the end. i must have read this book a zillion times, and though that was about 20 years ago, i'm positive it would be a favorite today. this book is worthy of modern classic status!
Won't Somebody Play With Me?
I read this book as a child, and it is still as wonderful! Just as always Kellogg keeps you hooked. It's about a little girl that can't find anyone to play with. She goes from door to door, but no one will play with her. She can here them inside, but no one will come out. She thinks about all the fun she will have with out them. Her imagination runs away with her and Kellogg does a great job illustrating it. At the end it all turns out well. A must have for anybody that has children-or an imagination!

Totally terrific tongue-twisting tomfoolery!
oooh, this is a GOOD one! A wonderful use of alliteration in presenting the alphabet. The pages are all mini-stories, each using one letter of the alphabet. (First page is all A words, second all B words....)

Fun, Fun, Fun!
This is a rhyming book about an elephant who is invited to the royal ball and becomes the hit of the party. A good social message about how everyone has value. Fun to read for adults and kids.

Fun and Functional
This book, with its engaging story and interactive flaps, is fun to read for parents and kids. Under certain words are hidden pictures of the word on the flap. Kids can even learn to read a few words with this book. the story is repetitive which kids love. One of my daughter's favorites.

Fresh, funny text and hilariously appropriate illustrations
Based on a traditional counting song, Steven Kellogg's fresh, funny text and hilariously appropriate illustrations engage young readers preschool through second grade on a rollicking good time as the popular nursery rhyme escalates into a slapstick adventure involving cobblers, cats, chickens, sled dogs, even velociraptors. The ever-increasing number of clever companions adds up to a unique counting book that ends with the last old man surrounded by a lovable crowd of canine friends. Give The Dog A Bone is an original take on a childhood classic and highly recommended for family, school, and public library children's books collections.

A great read aloud!
Iva Dunnit and the Big Wind is rich in art and imagination, and colorful in language. This is a fun book to read to children. It makes them want to find more books as enjoyable to share. It gives them something to think about, "how important is stayin' put, and when might it be best to investigate? I hope that my comments will lead enough people to check on this book that perhaps it might be made available again. I want a copy for my home library

One of the most creative childrens books ever
Creativity shows up in literature of all kinds, but seldom is seen the amount of creativity that Carol Chapman and Steve Kellogg put into this book. Chapman illustrates in the child's mind with her words and ideas, while Kellogg depicts the story gorgeously with his illustrations. It's a rare chemistry with a brilliant product. The story of a young boy with an incredible imagination and a desire for wonderful things gets him into trouble, as vast imaginations sometimes do. He uses that same imagination to get out of trouble, and ultimately learns a beautful, age-old lesson, "Be careful what you wish for." At 17 years old, this is my favorite book, and one I will read to my kids.
