all time favorite
This book is one of my all time favorites. I started reading to my children when they were babies - it has great rythm. It is delightful for adults, and my children have always been riveted. My one year old twins stop whatever they are doing to listen to the story whenever I start reading it. (I even "read" it to them in the car or bath because it is an easy little poem to memorize!)

Reading made easy...and FUN!
Written in rhyme, this book makes it easy for young readers to experience the thrill of reading all by themselves. Of course, the goose's antics only add to the excitement. This is a great book to motivate your preschooler to want to learn to read.

One of the most adorable books I've ever read!
This book is for children, OF ALL AGES. The pictures make
me laugh, and the special way that the story weaves its spell
helps one see how our pride often gets us into terrible
fixes and embarrassment. It would help anyone come down of
his "high horse" a bit. Wonderful, simply wonderful!

Though a children's book, everybody can learn from this.
In this wonderful piece of literature by author Cora Annett, the reader is introduced to Alf, a donkey who feels unloved on the farm where he lives. This feeling of unlovability is the basis of the story, as it causes Alf to do some, well, silly things. This is definitely a good book for any who have ever felt unappreciated for the job they do, no matter how minor that job may be.

Great tool for teaching and writing tall tales
I'm a third grade teacher and I've been reading Steven Kellogg's tall tales to my class throughout the school year. My class absolutely loves his books and recently I read "I Was Born About 10,000 Years Ago" as a way to get my kids to write their own tall tales. This book, unlike other tall tales, isn't about one exaggerated hero, but about five kids who my class can relate to. It made the tall tales more accessable and more meaningful because they could create their own in just a sentence or two like the kids in the book. It turned out to be a wonderful lesson.

10,000 smiles for 10,000 years.
My children and I thoroughly enjoyed the whimsical adventure through time that this beautifully illustrated book took them on. Steven Kellogg does a marvelous job of retelling this tall tale by using rhyming text. Combined with pieces of history, references to stories in the bible, and adding bits from other known tall tales, this book is one wild and crazy adventure after another. This book encourages children to want to use and develop their imagination. At the back of the book there is a musical score which the story could even be sung to.

Wonderfully Illustrated!
This is a very enjoyable story retold with the most captivating illustrations. The vocabulary telling this story is wonderful and is a great book to read to the young and an excellent book for the early reader. Children will enjoy this enhanced version! This is not a book to miss.

fun with tall tales
Students are sure to enjoy this hilarious account of how many of our nation's wonders were created. This tall tale has been "spruced up" with a rich and colorful vocubulary, and is combined with illustrations that will keep the reader coming back for discovery time and time again. Steven Kellog's series of tall tales are invaluable in the classroom as students experience various literary elements such as: genre, author/illustrators, and theme related impressions.

Molly Moves Out (Bodley Beginners)
Published in Hardcover by Random House Children's Books (A Division of Random House Group) (23 April, 1981)
Authors: Susan Pearson and Steven Kellogg
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:

Certified Classic
I was lucky enough to find this one when my littlest boy was only two. It's now served all three of my children with distinction.

Much-published Susan Pearson really nailed it with this 1979 title, which places her in the rarefied company of immortal children's authors like Margaret Wise Brown, Lois Lenski and VH Drummond.

At three chapters and 64 pages, this one is a really long story for toddlers, but one that they can enjoy until much older.

Writing with beautiful wit and rhythm, and boosted by the winsome bunny illustrations of Steven Kellogg, Pearson covers off many childhood fears and preoccupations, meanwhile leaving you with a raft of riffs and catchphrases that will find their way into many childhood conversations.

After numerous artful but failed attempts to distract her destructive little brothers (four) and little sisters (three), Molly memorably declares, "Ten rabbits living in one house is nine rabbits too many for me."

Striking out to her own bachelor pad just across the meadow, Molly gently acquires a lasting education about the true nature of honesty, compassion, friendship and family.

Treasured Childhood Favorite
Molly, responsible eldest sister of four brothers and three sisters, finds life at home intolerable (sister Mary takes her clocks apart, Kathryn borrows her shells and Max smells like dirty nappies).

Eventually Molly realises it is time to leave the nest, and with some assistance from her parents she packs her things and moves into a home of her own.

But sometimes even the best solutions to life's problems need to be worked on, and Molly embarks on a journey to adulthood that every rabbit must make in the end.

Sally Ann Thunder Ann Whirlwind Crockett: A Tall Tall
Steven Kellogg is wonderful telling the story of Sally Ann from her birth, her running, and the bear battle, to meeting and marrying Davey Crockett. Very strong woman. This folklore tale has excellent color illustrations. I would highly recommend this one for reading to and by the K through the 8th grade, along with a recommendation for teachers and parents, also.

one of my favorite chidren's books!
This was a great book especially for young girls. It tells the story of a female hero and all her adventures. Even after marrying Davy Crockett, one of the most famous folk hero's, Sally Ann remains independent and the greatest hero in the book. I highly recomend it to anyone, especially those interested in folk tales.

Pinkerton takes a WILD hunting trip!
This book is about Steven Kellogg's dog, Pinkerton, who goes on a picnic which turns into a strange hunting trip. The illustrations are terrific and help to make the story come alive. This is one of the best of the Pinkerton books.Trust me, I have read the books!!! If you are looking for a book to make you laugh, you will really like this book.

Tally Ho Pinkerton is terrific!!
My family first learned of "Pinkerton the big, clumsy Great Dane dog", while standing in line to sign up on a waiting list for another children's book title by Mr. Kellogg at our public library...we were enthusiastically informed by the younger folks in line that "Pinkerton rules!" So we put our names in for the same book also. We eventually loved reading it together so much, that we bought the hard cover copy for our home. Now that we have our first grandchild, we can start another generation on "Pinkerton Mania"!! Of all the Pinkerton books, and we love them all...this one is our favorite!

ralph`s secret weapon
Ralph`s Secret Weapon

Steven Kellogg who wrote the mysterious tadpole has written another book . The story is Ralph`s Secret Weapon. The book is published by Dial books and is for 7-9 year olds.
The main charecter Ralph who goes and stays with his aunt Georgina for the summer. The author Steven Kellogg wrote another book about an animal but thisw time it not a tadpole. My favorite thing is when Ralph uses his secret weapon. My least favorite thing was when Ralph plays the bassoon because its real loud and can break glass. What happend to the dragon did he get sick , or did he die .
I liked it because his secret weapon is a funny weapon and is disgusting to Ralph.

Bassoon book
This book is very cute and funny. The pictures are hilarious and add a lot to the story. As a bassoonist,I think the best thing about this book is that Ralph plays the bassoon. Just try to find another picture book with a bassoon in it!

I knew from the first sentence in this book that we (my 3 boys and I) were going to love it. It is a riot to read this a loud. A wonderful combination a reptile and truely creative writing. We are going to buy every Jimmy's Boa book we can find!

Jimmy's Boa and the Birthday Splash
This is a wonderful book for children and adults as well. The humor in the book was easily understood by the children. The book was easy enough to read but yet challenging. It was such a great hit in my class that we had to get another copy!
