A Hypnotically Beautiful Book!
All photographs are reproduced in a warm duotone, which brings out the amazing range of light and shadow in the original works. A learned introduction by Robert Flynn Johnson puts Jones in the context of other close-up still-life photographers. The book's only defect is Alice Waters's inane, hippy-dippy Preface: "A bunch of radishes. A bunch of grapes. [. . .] Charles Jones reminds us that horticulture is sacred. There is no other word for it." She drivels off after two pages, but still, that's two fewer of Jones's photographs that we might have enjoyed.

Perfect still-lifes
A marvellous and inspiring book, whether you're a gardener or a photographer, or both. Jones' work, found in a trunk in the Bermondesy Market, is quite the most remarkable body of still-life work produced by an English photographer. Reminiscent of the photos of Josef Sudek, Irving Penn or Karl Blossfeldt, it's everything good still-life work should be -- simple, dramatic, evocative and perfectly composed. Since Jones left no negatives -- later in life, he used his glass plates to make cloches to protect his seedlings -- this book is the only public record of his work you're likely to see unless you chance upon an exhibition organized by the author, dealer and collector Sean Sexton. I can't recommend this book enough.

A core addition to definitive European literary history
Torquato Tasso's Aminta is a pastoral play thought by scholarship to have been written sometime in the spring of 1573 and first performed on the island of Belvedere del Po (near Ferrara, Italy) July 31 that same year. First published in 1581 by Aldine Press of Venice, Aminta made Tasso' reputation as a playwright and was eventually translated into French, English, Latin, Spanish, Dutch, Danish, Polish, Hungarian, Slavic-Illinic, and Greek. Aminta has inspired writers down through the last two centuries, including Edmund Spenser, William Shakespear, and John Milton. This new edition of a European classic has been ably translated and deftly edited for an English readership by Charles Jernigan and Irene Marchegiani Jones. Aminta is an invaluable, indispensable, core addition to definitive European literary history and pastoral plays reference collections.

Poems of the Geosphere, by a perceptive soul.
I first read this book in 1994, when a friend from Tucson sent it to me. It's a pity it is out of print, since I find that it expresses the wonders of nature in an intensely personal and internal manner. The perceptions of the Natural and nature are expressed through the poet's mind, rather than a sense of sight or touch. Charles Jones has died, I am told. What a shame that such an intense spirit, so in tune with natural things and places, should be stilled. - Gretchen Schoonmaker Ellis

A necessary, well-conceived antidote to media monopoly
This directory does a terrific job exploring and exposing the diverse choices that exist outside of the mainstream magazine and newspaper world. The book seems to have been designed to appeal to a number of serious "professional" researchers -- librarians, booksellers, editors, writers, activists, even philanthropists. At the same time, its simple and elegant design makes Annotations an enjoyable, accessible way to learn about new independent voices. Sadly, it's one of the few resources the public can turn to for non-corporate opinion. But that just makes it all the more valuable....

A great strategic book
It doesn't matter that this is a case studies book. Though you don't anything about strategy, you will learn strategy through an entertaining reading. It shows a lot of cases studies, with detailed information about the strategies followed by some industries: Computers, Japanese Bear, Automotive, etc.

It's a great choice!

...And The Sea Will Turn Into A Tastey Beverage...
is this a classic text that will be of particular intrest to scholars of the history of utopian socialism and feminism and political thought in general? probably. is charles fourier one of the most complex, mind boggling, idiosyncratic thinkers and writers of all time? i think so. what is particularly intresting to me about this book though? here it is: the idea that civilization is an abomination responsible for the decrepit state of our planet and that fourier had single handedly discovered the process by which we will be able to bring the universe into harmony through a social revolution that will align the planets and turn the ocean into a tastey beverage and will create an aurora that will attach itself to the north pole that will raise the temperature of the northern lattitudes enough to make them comfortable to humans and also that any animals that dont help humans will be replaced by anti versions of these animals such as the anti-shark that will catch fish for us and anti-hippopotomi that will pull our boats around for us and anti-lions (sevral times larger than normal lions) that will be capable of carrying several passangers at a time to where ever they want to go at increadibly high speeds. all this was conceived in the late 1700's. truly amazing. the stuff about his social structure ideas is very interesting too whether you are interested in social theory or not.

A gritty compelling read...keep your eye on this guy!
I found this book surprizingly refreshing, a book of kindness and wonder, a promise of perceived threat, yet counterbalanced by the thoughtful, the insightful, the moving and dramatic. Charles Jones seems to know his stuff and in Global Justice he gets a chance to shine. Those who are interested in the issues of cosmoplitanism, keep your eye on this guy. Well done Mr Jones!

A Golf Story
A tremendous story about arguably the greatest golfer of all time, the most meticulously groomed golf course of all time and the best run golf tournament of all time.
The author has a thorough and scholarly approach to his writing. What makes it great though is the fact that the nearly mythical Bob Jones befriended this young writer so the book is filled with many first hand views. If you love golf and you want to know more about the origins of the modern game this is the book for you.
