Excellent management handbook combining theory and practice
Management Functions and Responsibilities is the most comprehensive management "bible" I have used for post-graduate teaching in universities, and industry consulting. Baird, Post and Mahon, cover the essential management theories and apply a range of case studies to each. All the major management functions are addressed, and the book flows in a logical and easily digestible order. It is published in full colour and is quite large (you cannot take it to bed and read it). I have never had a student or industry client negatively criticise the book I consider to be the management "bible". If a copy falls into your hands, guard it, because it is highly attractive to academics and industry professionals. As my students say "Never loan out your "bible"!." I have used this text in Australia and Asia. Unfortunately, it is currently (inexplicably) out of print, I thought that I knew of a store of 300 hidden in Australia, only to discover a Chinese university had bought them all. When I find a copy of this text, usually in a second-hand book store, I purchase it immediately for our reference library. I eagerly await the reprint.

Measuring Jerusalem: The Palestine Exploration Fund and British Interests in the Holy Land

Measuring Jerusalem - The Palestine Exploration Fund...
Measuring Jerusalem is a well researched and documented book which gives an excellent view into a(as yet) little known period in the history of Palestine, and the British role therein. The 19th century "opening" of Palestine and European conflicting interests (especially British) are the main focus of the book. Details of the "Imperialist" aims and manipulations are combined with the descriptions of the adventures of the intrepid explorers (many of whom played a dual role as explorer and spy). I especially enjoyed the personal stories of the explorers themselves and their adventures in Palestine (such men as Sir Charles Warren, Lord Horatio Herbert Kitchener, James Finn, T.E.Lawrence are talked about). I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in Palestine, it's history, it's exploration and it's role in 19th century Imperialism.

Excellent popular exposition
Alec Motyer is one of the best biblical expositors out there. His greatest strength in biblical scholarship has been in the structure of biblical works, something most people have found entirely lacking in James. Motyer reconstructs what may well have been the connections in the mind of James between seemingly unrelated teachings. In this book, James no longer seems to be a collection of miscellaneous proverbs but is more a summary of a thought process that moved from one thought to the other very quickly and without explicitly tracing the connectiuons, but Motyer shows the connections behind such moves.

The unity of the book of James thus comes out very strongly, and Motyer's thesis that James is a summary of a sermon or series of sermons makes much sense. On the level of details, Motyer does a great job explaining the text and its significance for daily life. He explains the theology behind James's thinking, something many scholars have assumed is not present in this book, and he presents his material in an easily readable manner without sacrificing the quality of his comments or the grounding of what he says in the actual text of James and the light of biblical theology.

This is certainly not the most in-depth commentary on James or maybe even the best. The work by Luke Timothy Johnson in the Anchor Bible series and Douglas Moo's Pillar Commentary (as opposed to his earlier, more brief Tyndale volume) are probably the best works on this epistle. However, Motyer is an excellent place to start for a more popular level and provides a nice complement to those works.

Simple but thrilling cuisine from a culinary superstar
There are two things which make this book different. First, the food is a brilliant example of the new style of 'fusion' food of which John Torode, as I understand it, was one of the pioneers. And second, it is beautifully written by Sarah Francis: witty, informative, enticing and clear. I buy a lot of cookbooks and I would rate this one easily in my top 5. The other great thing is that these recipes actually work, which is a major plus for a cookbook, and far from the norm. Torode combines classic ingredients from east and west to create fantastic dishes which seem completely unforced, and yet wonderfully original. One last note, the photos are beautiful, and give a vivd sense of Torode's food. A couple of months ago, the book won the James Beard award.

Will make you interested in visiting our favorite mountain!
If you are in the mood for an armchair journey, this book will bring Mt. Rainier to you. We have been up there quite a few times and love to take pictures up there.

Experience the fir trees and the crunch of snow underfoot from a distance. James Martin has captured the magnificence of this mountain.

John Harlin III complements the photography with text and has climbed many of the mountains in the Northwest.

I think we are about due for another visit!

It is so gorgeous in the Northwest. I don't want to live anywhere else.

A difficult subject that is made easy to understand
This was a text that I used in my "Spiritual Formation and Discipleship" class at Lee University. The book does an excellent job at merging developmental psychology and the Scriptures, to present a unique Christian prespective on the world of developmental psychology, and how the Church can make use of it.
