A wonderful story
This is not only the story of Joseph's reunion with his family, but the story of Simeon--the brother who is the Destroyer. He has destroyed anything that meant anything in his past. When he is selected to remain in Egypt until the other brothers come back with Benjamin, he is forced to look at himself. But it is not until he goes back to Canaan that he truly examines who he is and what he believes.

There are lots of little sub-plots in the book that keep it interesting. I thought the writing was good, and the plot was fast-paced enough. There are also a few surprises along the way.

Basically, an enjoyable book and I will be reading the next one.

Fantastic
This is a very well written book. The characters and situations portrayed are enjoyable and very believable. I have recommended this book to my friends.

Interesting and believable.
The characters in this novel seem more real than those in the first book in the series. While I didn't always like Simeon, I found his story fascinating. A well-written interesting piece of "biblical" fiction, with interesting insights into life in ancient Egypt.

A good book
This follows "Roanoke" which I really liked. In fact, it pretty much starts the minute "Roanoke" ends. It is mainly the story of Gilda & Fallon and what happens after the slaughter of their village.

Fallon is sent to England and Gilda is sent to live with her cousin Pocantas. Fallon never forgets his incomplete mission--to watch over Noshi & Gilda. Gilda, being so young when the children were sent away, doesn't remember much of her previous life. Eventually Fallon is able to go back to Virginia and begin his search for her.

The book is womderfully written and I felt like I got to know the main characters, to a point. Some of the supporting characters weren't that deep, but that's understandable.

I can't wait to read the third book in the series.

One of the best series ever!
This has to be one of the best series of books I've ever read. I hadn't even reached the middle of the first book when I called my mother to tell her that she had to go get it. She was done with it when I reached the middle of the second and now I've just finished the third!

A wonderful way to continue the tale of the ring!
JAMESTOWN continues the story of the people who established Roanoke, as based upon the author's research. I was reminded of the biblical story of Job's suffering as I lived with the characters Gilda and Fallon. A wonderful, enriching tale. I can't wait to read the other books in this series!

One of the Best Historical Novels I've Read!!!
"The Silver Sword" captivated me from begining to end. It had a great pace and plenty of nailbiting moments! I also enjoy the way the author equips real historical figures (such as Jan Hus) into this writing. "The Silver Sword" is a great book for anyone who enjoys a good, clean, exciting novel!

This book was real enough to be true, and an awesome story.
The Silver Sword was a book that really goes above and beyond what I would expect from a historical fiction book of the 15th century. Written in such a style it could easily be true the pages flew when I read this. While not action packed the subject of such extreme corruption kept me intigued. I couldn't put it down. This book is truly a book that you can learn about life then, come away feeling warm and fuzzy and want to know more about Anika and Lord John. Tremendous praise for The Silver Sword.

A great book by a great author!
I absolutely LOVED this book! I couldn't put it down for two days, it was so captivating. I found myself really pulling for the main character, Anika O'Connor. The action grabs the reader right in the beginning and throughout the novel. However, an even bigger pull of the book is the lesson of faith that is learned by Anika and consequentially by the reader. If you're into action, adventure, and romance with an inspirational theme, definitely read The Silver Sword. Oh, and the two sequels, The Golden Cross and The Velvet Shadow, are equally fabulous!

I couldn't put it down, got no sleep!
I am not a reader, I am a CONSUMER. I pick up a book, and, if it is good, I just can't stop reading! I will lose a day or two over a good book. I am blessed, however, to be a very fast reader. I went to the book store yesterday to buy a retirement gift when I remembered that The Note was out, so I got it, too (along with number 2 Heavenly Daze) justifying my purchases with the classification that they were vacation reading. Of course, when I got home, I thought "Well, I'll just start it...it will give me some motivation to get packed." HAH! I read the first 2 or 3 chapters last night and then lost most of today reading. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, and liked getting to know Peyton through the eyes of those around her. I was also totally taken off guard at the end. I recommend!

My favorite Angela Hunt book so far!
Angela Hunt has woven a unique and clever story that kept me turning pages and surprised me at several turns. The story stands on its own as a captivating contemporary tale of a disenchanted columnist who finds more than she bargained for when she is given a mysterious note that washed up in the debris from a tragic plane crash. But when you delve into the allegory woven throughout, the novel becomes an amazing gem! You won't be disappointed and you won't soon forget this story.

If you read one book in the aftermath of Sept 11--this is it
What would you do if you had a few seconds to live? What sort of message and legacy would you leave your loved ones? Angela Hunt explores this issue and many more in THE NOTE. A wonderful story of hope and new beginnings!

An Inspiring Story
Because I have a grandbaby who was just diagnosed with profound deafness, I have been reading all the books I can about how deafness affects those who are deaf. Heather Whitestone's story was so inspirational and gave me a great deal of insight of how it feels to be deaf and different from the hearing world, and to understand what obstacles might arise, and to take heart knowing that most can be overcome if you have faith and the fortitude to meet the challenge. Her story also gives insight into the debate between the use of sign language, oral education, and cochlear implants, and the prejudice that still exists among some people in the deaf culture. A truly informative and inspiring book.

A story of inspiration and faith that is truly sincere
Having Whitestone as our first hearing impaired Miss America, one would think, should have been true inspiration for this nation's legion of children with disabilities. Whitestone's memoir, Listening With My Heart, shares these triumphs, but reveals also the stark realities this tiara holds. Anyone who thinks this title nothing more than non-stop glamour and make-up will be pleasantly surprised to learn of the more intense layers underneath.

Despite the joys and benefits of being America's sweetheart, and despite the impact Whitestone left following her year-long reign, there was an equal amount of heartache and frustration, and while reading Listening I found that just because one cannot hear the activity around her, it doesn't make the pain less hurtful. In Listening, Whitestone details her duties and the ensuing exhaustion, all the while keeping a cheerful front so as not to disappoint anyone in her path.

Her positive disposition, as felt throughout Listening, is credited to Whitestone's solid faith in God. Whitestone's love of God carries her throughout her career and is strongly felt in this memoir; she peppers each chapter with encouraging quotes from many known people and from the Bible. For all the uphill struggles she tackled (including living her Christian beliefs in a society that does not necessarily embrace the same values), Whitestone's enthusiasm is contagious, and her life-in-progress an inspiration.

Heather's an Inspiration!
I am inspired by Heather Whitestone when I read this book...she is an inspiration to many deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals like myself. She taught me in this book that no matter the outcome, anyone with a disability can do just about anything in life...even marrying a good, handsome man named John McCallum and being the first deaf Miss America. This Christian autobiography is one of my favorites because it is very interesting to read and there are good pictures of her and her husband, family, even deaf actress Marlee Matlin. I even noticed by reading this book is that Heather and I have things in common with each other such as we both grew up as oral deaf. I love this book and I know you will too...you will enjoy it as much as I did.

Dreamers

Well researched, but bloodless
I like Egyptian history and the biblical story of Joseph, so I eagerly picked up this book. The author obviously did her work well, and gives a strong sense of day to day life in Ancient Egypt. I also liked how Hunt chose to link Joseph's time in Egypt to actual historical pharoahs.Still, the book read a bit like "The Ten Commandments" to me: the basic story from Genesis was there, but there were many added characters and subplots that are transparently fictional. Joseph and Tuya are so saintly and the bad guys so obviously evil that there wasn't much character development or suspense. Also I couldn't help but feel I was being preached to a bit. The book is also very simplistically written: I could certainly recommend it for children or young adults as it is quite "G" rated throughout.

I won't repeat earlier criticisms but
I'lll add that there are historical and Biblical problems. However what does not seem to be mentioned in other reviews is the strange brief introduction to Egyptian family "history" before the story begins. Over and over I asked "where did she get ideas like this" and had to conclude since her "facts" are not cited or documented in any way that she must be reading Herodotus or some modern pseudo-historical work based on misconceived ideas about the benefits of finding matriarchical, matrilineal, and matrifocal cultures. Aside from the questionable family "history" there is also the fact that the story itself does not make reference to the introduction in almost any way until we get to the plot to kill Pharaoh in the last third of the book. The idea of creating female character who could have contact with Joseph and playing up the competition of religions is very well played out in the story. The plot and characters were interesting enough to keep me reading. It is less "G-rated" than many stories based on the Joseph tale or almost any modern fictional retelling of a society that readily embraced slavery -- still not as accurate as it could be but is our society truly ready for such accuracy?

Fleshes out the Biblical tale
I liked this book because it had more meat than the biblical tale. I know that many of the supporting characters are fictional, but everything taken in context adds so much more depth than we usually read. I thought it was interesting how Joseph, Tuya, Sagira, and the pharaohs all had lives that intertwined at various points.

This book has loves stories, murderous plots, and forgiveness. I liked how the interplay of the different religions came into focus with Tutmosis. It was different, reading about a Pharaoh as a human being.

I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Decent, but far from great
Flee The Darkness is not a bad novel, but that's about as far as it goes. If, like me, you have a taste for Christian Endtime fiction, you'll probably enjoy this novel. There's nothing wrong with it but, like many other novels in this genre, there's nothing standout about it either. If you're interested in reading a truly exceptional novel about Revelations, I would suggest We All Fall Down by Brian Caldwell. Caldwell uses Revelations, not just to imagine what it might be like, but to truly explore the nature of God an mankind. I read the novel three months ago, and I'm still thinking about it, God and myself. Flee is a good novel, it just doesn't come anywhere close to We All Fall Down.

Simply splendid, refreshing, vibrant, electric, & supersonic
Only 2 words can describe this book - A triumph of nouns with a graceful multitude of adjectives, verbs, and the occasional splattering of gerunds.

The characters were so realistic, I dreamed about them!
I, too, have read the LEFT BEHIND series, and thought none other could be so all consuming. But I was transported from the first page and became totally involved with the characters. One night, when I awoke from a dream about the book events,I found that I was praying for the safety of the characters! I would say that WAS involvement. I have watched for additional books. When?

How to take advantage of life changing moments
The basic premise of this book is that life throws at us opportunities that, if acted upon, can change our life and the lives of others. From weight loss, to career changes, to attitudes, every aspect of our life can be a place we experience a "flashpoint" of awareness for a need to change. How often we sweep these under the rug, or rationalize them away, but we don't have to. The book is very grounded in Biblical principles, although the author uses examples of how many non-Christian people have taken advantage of life's "flashpoints" in a very secular fashion.

The book starts slowly and I felt the first few chapters tended to meander a lot. Once the book gets into some specifics on how to identify when you might be ready for embracing one of these life changing moments, and specifically how to take advantage of the opportunities and what to expect, it is captivating and helpful.

I especially like the way the book cautions about the trails and challenges of embracing these "flashpoints". As is clear in the Biblical passages included in the book, we may well be called to make changes and have opportunities to make a difference in ways we haven't yet dreamed of, but these changes will not be pain-free nor without their share of consequences. This is an excellent point, and is what separates this book from so many other "seize the day" type of proclamations. Our focus truly should be on not "what's in it for me", but rather "what's in me for it"! The trials and challenges strengthen us for a higher purpose and often without these we would be unable to succeed.

The last half of the book is outstanding and well worth the read. My only complaint was that the editing of the presentation was not as impactful as the message, but overall this is a great book and a good wake up call to take advantage of the "flashpoints" we are given and to have the courage to risk enough to change ourselves and be a change in our world.

grounded in God's Word and inspirational
I listen to New Life Live as much as I can, so when Steve Arterburn started promoting this book, I knew I wanted to get it. Finally I did get it, and I'm so glad I did. I have to admit it wasn't exactly what I was expecting, but it was good all the same.

He talks about when you get an inspiration for something that you just can't ignore and you have to act on it. What I appreciate about this book, in comparison to other books popular in the Christian market right now, is that it's not name-it-claim-it, or you have the power in yourself to do this, or whatever. He emphasizes over and over how the inspiration must be of God's will, it will take a lot of faith, a lot of work, and there will be trials and temptations and setbacks. But there will be growth in grace and maturity and discipline at the end, as well as perhaps financial gain or material blessing and such. He never assumes or lets the reader assume that God will just grant our desires or wishes or inspirations without working on our character, on our faith, on our lives. I also appreciate how honest he is about his own life and mistakes and failures, from his struggles with weight to paying for an abortion in college.

The book is a very easy read, and perhaps will give you the motivation and inspiration to change your life and make a difference no matter what the cost. I so praise God for Steve and the ministry of New Life!

An encouraging book for "burnout"
I work for a bookstore and have very little extra time to read a book from cover to cover, but this is one that litterally just jumped off the shelf at me. I purchased the book, took it home and finished it at 1:00 am in the morning. This is a great encourager and reminder to anyone who has lost site of their purpose, dreams and visions. It is also one that you can keep for future reference if you are a Pastor or Teacher. It gives some great real life experiences.

Interesting premise
I should say at the outset that I prefer Christian non-fiction to fiction. However, I read the reviews here on Amazon, thought it would be interesting, and found that The Immortal was a real page-turner - I finished it in two days and I did a lot of other things in those days!

I think my expectations for this book were raised by the reviews here on Amazon. I enjoyed it, and it was rather fascinating at times, but I also felt that it took too long to get to the main point of the book. It seemed to me that everything happens in the last 75 pages or so. I also would've liked to have learned more about the organization that Claudia worked for. This part seemed rather vague, but maybe there's a reason for that?

After it was over, I found myself wanting to know what happens next - I won't say what I wanted to know because I don't want to ruin the ending for anyone, but suffice it to say that the book really leaves you hanging.

Overall, an enjoyable book with a unique and fascinating theme!...

True to Life
The Immortal, written by Angela Hunt,is an extremely well written book that explores the subject of God's mercy and grace in a new and challenging way. The charecters are true to life and so are their experiences. You could almost forget that they aren't real. The painful life journey of Asher is one that we can all identify with as each one of us try to search out our purpose in this life and the balance of works versus the love of Christ. For every person who feels they must get do everything "just right" to see God, this is a must read.

Wonderful Book
This book is so well written that you are drawn into the story from the first page. The character Asher Genzano is completely absorbing and almost real. I really enjoyed the history and culture described throughout the book as well, and the idea of a potential antichrist in every generation is one that I had never considered before. I highly recommend this book and I can't wait to read more books by the same author.
