A fascinating glimpse of a "lost " world
Excellent treatment of the vanishing English Country House. Very sad but also Harris includes some wonderful commentary on local color and humorous personal experiences. A very entertaining book, full of the great names in British conservation efforts and architectural historians, of which he is one, working for RIBA. All in all a very nice little book on not only the loss of great houses but the passing of an age--a civilization gone with the winds of the First and Second World Wars.

Best collection ever of ruminations and thoughts on life!
This is a wonderful collection of short 1-2 page writings on many different topics in life. Love, time, how to live with passion for life, friendship, history, you name it. The writings are so eloquent and thought-provoking that you could spend an afternoon talking about each one. A joy to read! Learn to be alive, not to just go on living! This book helps bring meaning to life. You can't ask for more than that.

An Absolute Steal!
This is a fantastic historical atlas. I have a collection of dozens of historical atlases and the quality is not always high. Too often topical historical "atlases" have too few actual maps -- most of which are just reprinted from earlier historical atlases.
"The Penguin Atlas of British & Irish History" is the exact opposite. There's an original full-color map on every page. The atlas covers the whole length of British history from the Ice Age to the Chunnel. The maps are very well made and detailed, alternating between overviews of the whole of the British Isles and close-ups of particular cities, regions, and topics. One particularly nice touch is original panoramic reconstructions of historic sites including: Roman-era London, Viking-era York, Medieval Norwich, Tudor-era London, 18th-century Dublin and Edinburgh, 19th-century Manchester, and contemporary London...

A brilliant collection of poetry and prose
Passionate and wild, this Home Brew Press publication features some of the best Midwestern poetry and prose being published anywhere. Editor Mary "Casey" Martin selects carefully and skillfully arranges her selections alongside some pristine images. Winter, wolves and love are the three themes celebrated, with the anthology's soaring words and brilliant illustrations (especially DeAnn De La Ronde's cover art) hammering home the concept. Especially affecting are poems by Edith Nash, Mark Scarborough, Jean Feraca and Martin herself, as well as a snippet of a biography of famed Wisconsin naturalist Frances Hamerstrom by Helen Corneli.

Great book for concept reference
This is an outstanding, easy to read, reference guide for the beginning or experienced tax professional. One thing I particularly like about it is that it addresses compliance and procedural considerations for every main topic -- something that's hard to find in any other comprehensive volume. I highly recommend this book as a desk reference.

Certainly the most valuable book on Raphael's techniques!
This is perhaps the most important monograph on a renaissance artist yet written. The body of technical information, and anomalies, is the most comprehensive available on this artist. Any scholar of Raphael that has not fully examined this marvelous compendium is now decades behind their counterparts that have.
The combination of stylistic and technical material and evidence presented within this book has set a new standard in scholarly art literature. The role of the art historian is changing, and this book presents the guidelines by which futrure art historians shall be judged. Regardless of the area of specialization, every art historian should become thoroughly familiar with the format and content of this incredible compilation.

Roses for the Scented Room: A Scrapbook of Ideas, Recipes,
Like the other books that have been put out my Ohrbach and Milo this book is joy! It is filled with beautiful photos of ways to use one of natures most beautiful creations - the rose. It includes recipes for things such as teas and potpourri and includes other ideas for lovely items that make perfect gifts or decorations for your home. The imformation is presented in a simple and thoughtfull manner so that it is relatively simple to complete the projects shown. The ideas are realistic - they are things that you really would do . There is also good information on how to care for roses in the garden and as well as great arrangement suggestions. All in all I really love this book. I'll be ordering at least 2 more since it will be the perfect mothers'day or easter gift. A must have for all of those who appreciate the beauty of roses!

Brilliant take on the Civil War!
A Shower of Stars is a fascinating book about the Civil War. This is a true study of our American History, Mr. Pullen has reseached and interviewed the historians of the Civil War era. The anthropological skills of this author is amazing! In each of our attics (storage places), holds the future of the truth. I wholeheartedly endorse this book. A Shower of Stars is brilliantly written!

Terrific
This is a much needed and enjoyable book. Although not terribly well written (in that trendy, almost-clever way), it covers material that must not be neglected. Rigoberto Torres is a treasure.
