A must read for all.
The book is an excellent tool that allows all to enter and enjoy the wonderful world of Fantasy Baseball!!!!!

A superb book for the novice and seasoned pro alike
This book covers all the beginner aspects of the fantasy sports game. It offers the necessary steps to beginning your own league and if your a seasoned veteran helpful hints to get the winning edge. I can attest to the George Griefs and the Jermane Allensworths from my own experiences.

A Sports Fans Dream
This a book which enables a group of people to have fun following a sport. It teaches you what to look for and how to prepare yourself. It is a book that will help not only the so-so sport fans but also the very hard core sport fans. The one thing that I would have added to it would have been Chapter 23 How to go from 9th place in your league to 1st in the last five weeks of the season, but then again that's me. If you have a group of friends who like sports and don't know how to set up a league this is a great book to buy.

The best
This is one of the best books out there. I not only used it in my vibrations class back as an undergraduate (and I had vibrations with Magrab too!), I have continued to find new ways to use it in the work world today. Dr. Magrab and the others have written a very useful book that definitely relates engineering to this program.

hit the bullseye
This one is really for engineers, it goes over the basics first, subsequently it goes into more details. It has handy examples of mechanics, dynamics...etc. if you are a mechanical or an electrical engineer, and you are a matlab user, this book would mean a lot to you.

Great title for mechanical and other engineering fields
Many 'engineering' matlab books don't live up their titles. They are simply written as general introductions to matlab with a few useless thoughts about engineering thrown in.

In my opinion, a good matlab engineering book focuses less on general tips that you could get anywhere, and more on practical problem solving techniques and methodologies that provide insight into a paticular engineering problem and its solution.

This books succeeds in that respect. Though it gives space to the more general issues of using matlab, it gives ample room to specific engineering problems. I found its information and examples very useful. The topics are focused on mechanical engineering fields, such as vibration and control; however, the math used for such topics are used across engineering and science disciplines. Thus, any scientist or engineer will find this book useful.

The book is written so that engineers at many levels can benefit from it. For example, as a former graduate student, I found the treatments of vibration response analysis insightful. However, an undergraduate or otherwise inexperienced user would benefit from this book as well, because there is alot of general discussion of how to effectively and efficiently use matlab and write m-files.

All in all, I found this book excellent for both its treatment of high level engineering analysis issues and its more general matlab tips and discussion.

The New Science of Strong Materials or Why You Don't Fall Through the Floor

Elegant, Simple and Fascinating
Professor Gordon is the sort of teacher I would have appreciated in school. One imagines him as a grey haired gentleman in rumpled slacks and cardigan with a pipe and sneakers who makes it his kindly mission in life to fill his students with a zest for his chosen calling.

His explanations are elegant, simple and fascinating. I can't think of higher praise for someone trying to make sense of a discipline as complicated as materials science.

The problem with most academics is an inherent need to appear learned. This leads to obscure and convoluted explanations that are, if not overtly, at least subconsciously designed to maintain the gap between the ignorant masses and the enlightened adepts. Even when such academics make a conscious attempt to simplify, their efforts are too often sabotaged by the bad habits of a lifetime.

This is why good popularisers are so difficult to come by, and why the Gordons of the world should be so prized.

This book isn't just about the science of materials, but about how such an exotic subject actually connects with our everyday lives. We live in a certain way, and not in a different way, because of the strengths, weaknesses, costs and working difficulties in the materials that we use. I don't think most laymen ever bother thinking about the world in quite this way.

This book is not actually meant for engineers or scientists, although most such technos would greatly benefit from reading it (if only to learn the meaning of true grasp and clarity). Its true benefit is to those curious laymen who wish to know more, but who find the usual explanations beyond them.

This book should be required reading for all undergraduates, not just aspiring scientists or engineers. In fact, it should be especially required for non-technical types.

The New Science of Strong Materials
This is an absolutely wonderful book. It is fun to read the practical examples and has unusual technical insight into how materials fail (or don't). Some very technical ideas are presented very simplely and clearly.

A lively introduction to structural engineering.
Far more than a textbook intro, it is a biographical narrative of the discovery of why some materials are strong, some not; how wooden airplanes were made in WWI and I, how plastics were found to be strong, or not, why fiber composites, such as fibreglass, were found to be so strong. Immensely entertaining, very educational .

The Plain Sense of Things: The Fate of Religion in an Age of Normal Nihilism

A work that makes you slap your head and yell "YES!"
I was introduced to this text in a class taught by Richard Rorty from whom James Edwards draws much of his discourse. The book was almost revelatory in its effect on me. It eloquently (though sometimes difficultly) expressed feelings and thoughts I'd had my entire life but could never fully express. He writes to "End of Century Western Intellectuals" which refers to all those who have intuitvely searched for some sort of "meaning" or "truth" but who have likely found most ostensible sources of such meaning to be hollow and weak. You will not find truth here either but you might find the explanation as to why that might be OK.

My obdurate hankering for the ineffable is gone !
Before reading James C. Edwards new book, the closest I had come to "Fear and Trembling" was some occasional fear and loathing. Okay, a lifetime of fear and loathing. Then halfway through "The Plain Sense of Things" I realized that I knew more about country music than I did Soren Kierkegarde. So off I went to the public library, where no one had even heard of Soren Kierkegarde. Somehow, we figured out how to spell his name. So I checked out "Fear and Trembling." No wonder I had never read this book! In summary, any book that can make somebody go to the public library, knowing full well that he or she will end up paying some ridiculous fine because they are constitutionally incapable of returning the book on time, to check out and actually try to read something by Soren Kierkegarde, and I'm not talking about "the light side of Soren Kierkegarde" either, is one hell of a provocative read !

Exquisite
A rare, relevant, perhaps even urgent, achievement. Edwards skillfully and lucidly negotiates the complexities of, elicits the subtle kinships amongst, several philosophical diagnosticians of western culture, among whom Nietzsche, Heidegger and Kierkegaard figure most prominently. Edwards' ambition and ability far exceeds the merely expository. He weaves a compelling tale, drawn from various threads of the West's philosophical heritage, of how we -- a powerfully invitational 'we' whose reach proves to be remarkably broad -- came to our present state of reflective malaise which seems to aggravate our obdurate hankering for the ineffable, under the shadow of which stands much of contemporary "unbelief," however robust. With canny persistence, Edwards pursues several important consequences of this situation, exposes their risks, and elegantly conjures, from what he has gleaned from his philosophical forebears, a vision of rigor, of the piety that inspires rigor, divested of those commitments which no longer survive the imperatives of truthfulness.

Where do we go from here?
Anyone living in America has experienced firsthand the short-term changes caused by the terrorist attacks of 9/11. But what about the longer-term changes? What can we expect, and how will it affect our lives? Betting on America offers a lucid, thoughtful scenario of life in the months, and years ahead. The authors include a historic perspective in showing us how we can individually, and collectively, become stronger, more secure, in dealing with the future. America has always had a strong resolve; Messrs Cortada and Wakin help us understand why. A must buy book for anyone interested in knowing where we go from here.

A MUST READ, TIMELY BOOK
This is a timely and important book. Written in a clear and lively style, "Betting on America" is the first book to put the horror of September 11th into its historical context. But most crucial in these uncertain times, this work reminds us of how American has always endured in the past and will endure now. The changes we now face will not only help us prevail, but help us to rise to a new level of greatness as a people and a nation. A must read for all concerned Americans

"Betting on America" is a sure bet to become a bestseller
The war against terrorism has spawned countless commentaries, but this intelligent, insightful, inspiring book stands out from the crowd. Instead of more rage and mere rhetoric, it offers much reason. Like its upbeat title, the book captures America's can-do spirit and offers must-do advice on how we can rise to these challenges and ultimately triumph. The authors make a clear, compelling case for why America has always been the odds-on favorite against its foes. When it comes to life-and-death struggles between good and evil, history shows that betting on America is really no gamble at all.

Don't sell your company until you read this book
I run one of those few start ups that has survivied. I've had several offers from competitors in the brick and motar world to buy my business. Some offers were very interesting and others I've since learned were less than honest. Keogh's book helps me identify good candidates for purchasing my company and shows me serious pitfalls to avoid. This is a good little book that explains all the ins and outs about e-mergers and buying and selling a company. I highly recommend this book.

Avoid costly mistakes by reading this book
I owned one of those start up dot coms that found a niche in the market and actually made a profiting when funding dried up. I had offers from a number of established traditional companies to take over my business. Fortunately, I stumbled over this book in time to avoid making potentially costly mistakes. I strongly recommend anyone thinking of selling their e-business to read this book before looking for buyers. You'll avoid a lot of pitfalls.

A must for anyone thinking about selling or buying a dot com
Ken Allard of Jupiter Media Metrix is correct when he says this book is a comprehensive guide to M&A for anyone who wants to acquire cheap assets and build a winner from the rubble. Keogh walks you through all the fine details of buying and selling a dot com. I found particularly interesting the coverage of real world experiences of those who have worked through their own deals. It's as if you're getting the how to's and what worked what to avoid all in one very readable book. Good job.

Explained in words that I could even understand
Computer technology is a challenge to understand. It keeps changing quickly and its difficult to gain a basic understanding of it. However, I think Keogh's laid-back easy to read writing style brings technology down to a level that the average Joe on the street like me can understand. He starts with the very basic concepts then gradually brings you into the latest technology without skipping a beat. I found myself say, "that's how its down. It's so simple why do they make it sound so complicated."
And best of all he covers digital video, digital audio, and other technologies that you don't think of as being computer hardware. I can't wait for his next book on technology.

Most up to date book I've read. Coverall more than PCs
I was pleasantly surprise to read the wide variety of computing devices covered in this book. Not only did the author bring me up to date on the latest PC technology, he also covered PDAs, digital cameras, MP3 devices, wireless devices, scanners, practically anything I wanted to know about. Best of all Keogh explained how these technology work in a way anyone could understand it. Another advantage I found over other books is that Keogh provided an insight into the entire technology industry - company by company. I give this two thumbs up. Good job!

Most updated source I've found
This book hit the nail on the head for me. A good, easy to understand guide to all kinds of computer hardware. I particularly found the author's treatment of PDAs, digital cameras, and mobile computing devices very useful. Most other books on computer hardware only cover PCs. This book covers PCs and nearly every kind of computing device on the market. I give the author two thumbs for covering more than PCs.

Great!!!
Excellent for Bible College Students or Reviewing certain times in Biblical History.

A Great Resource
I am very glad that I decided to purchase this book. The bible can get very repetitious and confusing. This book helps bring the history and chronology on the bible into place. It isn't cheap and isn't the easiest to read but I'm glad I have it. It's bulky so it's not the easiest to carry around. This is not meant to be a bible that you take to church and use when you want to follow along in scriptures. Though you could use it for that, but you'd go crazy.

A chronological look at the scriptures and a comparisson of the various tales that different biblical writers told. it's nice to see the stories of Moses and Jesus, as told by different books, side by side. Comparing how the gospels differ in style is really interesting and you really get a feel for the writers. This is original King James, so the writing can be difficult to get through at times. The year is mentioned at the beginning of each story. This bible is very easy to follow through and easy to navigate. there are numerous indexes so you can search by year, bible chapter, or story. This is a great bible that I'm glad i have as a resource and highly recommed to others.

A necessity for Chronolgical Bible Storying

Good book with someone familiar with C++ programming syntax.
This book can be a good addition to your C++ library. But, you will need a good C++ programming book which explains contents of this book in more details. This book does have good examples but what good are the examples if they are not explained very well.

I recommend getting:

The C++ Programming Language Special Edition
by Bjarne Stroustrup with this book.

Makes mastering c++ easy
With so many c++ books on the market, not one explains c++ the way programmers like to lean. At least until now. I found this book a well worth addition to my library. You lookup the functionality you want, then look at a fully working - short - program showing how to code the functionality. Best of all the authors use callouts to describe every aspect of the syntax. I really like the programmer's notebook style.

A quick way to learn C++
I read many books while trying to learn c++ and I found the C++ programmer's notebook one of the best on the market. There are hundreds of little programs with each having callouts that point to syntax and tell you what's happening. You don't have to read pages and pages of text to understand how to use c++. This book gives you c++ programs in a "picture" like way. More book should be written this way.

It left the Fire of the Covenant burning in me...
What an amazing talent Gerald Lund has in his ability to merge historical events with the inclusion of fictional characters. Although this book's several pages can intimidate even the stoutest of novelists, I found myself unable to put it down as I moved from one chapter to the next. I found myself being pulled into the story and truly feeling what it must have been like crossing the unsettled West as a Mormon Pioneer. On more than one occasion I was actually brought to tears.

If you read this book, prepare yourself for some late night reading sessions.

Wonderfully woven novel of fact and fiction
When I started the novel, I was a bit overwhelmed by its length. But as I began to turn the pages, I was quickly enveloped into the amazing tale of the trials, bravery, and faithful diligence of the members of the Martin and Willie handcart companies. Gerald N. Lund paints a vivid portrayal of their struggles that stimulates the mind, pulls at the heart and envigorates the spirit.... 5 stars!

fire of the covenant
it is a powerful story that puts you right into the situation.
