You need to sing the song to appreciate it.
This has an accompanying song that is sweet and very fun to share with your little one. I wouldn't consider it a book for learning letters, so if you're looking to teach ABC's this isn't what you want. This is a book that ups the snuggle factor at bedtime and gives you a visual aid if you sing the song as well.

If you're looking for a fun rendition of the song, you won't go wrong with the John Lithgow CD, 'Singin' in the Bathtub'. The whole CD is worth the money.

What a sweet book and song!
I got this book before my daughter was born and sang the song to her in the womb. She now sings along babbling as I sing. It is a charming little book about ABC's and the beautiful blessing of children. It is sure to be a big hit for any new parent!

a book that glows
It's not easy being a little kid sometimes, but this lovely and positive book is filled with nice things to say -- A you're adorable, B you're so beautiful .... Who wouldn't be cheered up?

The illustrations are gentle but lively images of children playing around large letters. I am not familiar with the Kaye-Wise-Lippman song others have referred to, but the book is enjoyable anyway. Though I would rather have had a phrase for each letter of the alphabet rather than three strings (MNOP, QRST and WXYZ), I suppose that makes it fit the song.

Particularly useful when your toddler or young reader is down in the dumps, this gentle reminder tells them that they are special and loved and important. If you know the tune, all the better!

THE BEST BOOK EVER!
My mother read this book to me many, many times in preparation for my little sister's birth. I still think of it every time my sister (now 25 years old) gets on my nerves. It really taught me that, even though she could be annoying, that we both truly loved each other and could depend on each other no matter what...If you have a daughter and are expecting another one soon, you have to get this book!

a story for all sisters
I remember checking this book out of the library when I was 6, and thinking that this story must have been written for me and my little sister. We even looked like the girls in the book! I rediscovered this book recently, and found that the story rings true with me today, just as much as it did in 1977. I think anyone who has a sister could relate to this beautiful story.

Feed the literary impulse
This is perhaps one of the greatest picture books ever written, and is much, much more than a tool for assuaging sibling rivalry in two girl families. With a perfect ear for read-aloud prose, and a finely balanced sense of the perspective of a child, Zolotow invites the youngest listeners to savor the pleasures of literature.

We are introduced to big sister at the outset, who always takes care of little sister. But the heart of the story lies in little sister's small act of rebellion on a day when she grows tired of big sister always telling her what to do. Although the story is nominally about a little sister learning from her older sister such that "the two of them can take care of each other", it is the heart of the story that moves this tale out of the usual wretched and formulaic child's self-help lesson and into the realm of true literature. For not only does little sister run away from big sister, but when big sister comes calling for her in the meadow, little sister doesn't respond at all. Not only that, but we get a full two pages of little sister's quiet, existential reflections on the nature of being alone and in pondering what she has just done. This is the true heart of the story. How can a reader/listener not respond to the willfulness of little sister's unkindness, and yet fully understand the joys of being alone and feeling the grass under your knees while bumblebees buzz overhead? It is in identifying with these conflicting and ambiguous feelings that the young reader feels, perhaps for the first time, a frisson of bittersweet pleasure that will hook them on the joys of reading good books for life.

Of course little sister finally relents after she sees big sister break down and cry, but thankfully Zolotow doesn't give an adult resolution to the story. The answer to big sister's reproach, "Why did you run away?" is immaterial, and lemonade is the order of the day.

Excellent Info
This book really breaks down components of the business into a very workable and specific approach. I have a cousin who works in commercials and now understand better so much of what she goes through. It's much more than luck or knowing people, which is a common myth, and this books gives some sound facts.

Great Acting Tool
This book is a very thorough introduction to Commercial Acting. Perfect for a beginner who wants to learn how to start acting in commercials. The book will teach you about getting your commercial headshots, how to put together an acting resume, and what training you will need. There is also a valuable chapter on avoiding Scams. If you want to know what to expect on a commercial audition and how the casting of commercials is done - this book is for you. A very useful resource for any commercial actor.

Dead On
This book is dead on. Don't worry about the publishing date being 1997--these are the basics and they still apply. Having appeared in a national commercial, relocated to Los Angeles after four years of regional experience, and now going on several auditions for principal parts each and every week, the authors capture the experience "dead on" and offer invaluable advice. As you read the book, make sure you have a highlighter or pad and pencil handy to jot down specifics that apply to you. I've already updated my resume based on the authors' suggestions and have arranged for a more appropriate headshot. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

The cook's companion

A must have in any kitchen
This is really the most amazing cookbook. In many ways it is like the famous French gastronomic dictionaries with explanations of the foods that we eat and the seasonings and other basic ingredients, but it also has fabulous ways to use and appreciate these ingredients. As Stephanie is one of Australia's most famous cooks, we are also privy to many of her secrets and favourites - really yummy things!

Best of all it is extremely readable - I mean sit comfortably and read it simply for the pleasure of the contents. It explains why certain cuts of meats are the best, how herbs and spices grow and are used, different ways of working with fruits and vegetables - it is a spectacular scholarly and entertaining book.

As a collector of books I am also lured by the glamour of glossy cookbooks with their mouthwatering recipes and artful pictures. This book has none of this, but it is smeared with chocolate and dappled with olive oil, lemon juice, flour and dried parsley. Surely this is the best indication of a level of usage for any cookbook. Track it down and buy it!

the best single cookbook over the last 10 years
Reading this book is like having an older, wise experienced cook hold your hand in the kitchen as well as challenging you in the ways various ingredients can be employed. Every recipe works. The margins are filled with hints to encourage exploration of simple but dramatic food choices. The recipes for Stephanie's steak sandwich and favourite roast chicken are so good that my family repeatedly requests them. The book is organized by principal ingredient with chapters devoted to chestnut, chicken, lettuce etc. I have bought 3 copies - one for myself and one for each of my children to take when they (eventually!) leave home and set up for themselves. This book and a a good market guarantee a life appreciation of great food and confidence in preparing same.

Best Book - use it every day
The best companion a cook can have - I use it every day. For tips on storage, types of food, seasons etc. Not to mention the recipes. Handy having recipes listed by ingredient not type. Every cook should have one.

Absolutely Positively Alexander: The Complete Stories

Teaches Kids About Everyday Challenges......
.....that they or their friends may have to face in their young lives. In one story Alexander deals with issues surrounding moving to a new neighborhood. In another he deals with the repercussions of spending all his money. And, in the last, he deals with just a plain old bad day where nothing seems to go right. In each story Alexander feels kind of glum and is afraid that no one understands his struggle. By the end of each story though, he learns a lesson and learns his responsibility for his actions. The stories don't end on particularly happy notes, where all works out despite everything, but rather shows a given realization being reached by young Alexander: that if you spend your money frivolously, you won't 'be rich', that everyone has bad days and it's just part of life, and that sometimes we have to do things we are afraid of and that we don't want to do, such as move to a new neighborhood.

The stories are written on about a second grade reading level. Kids ages seven and eight will have little difficulty with the language or with following the story line. Honestly though, I'm not sure that kids this age will get the moral of the story on their own. They may just see the ending where Alexander doesn't get what he wants as unfulfilling until an adult explains further.

Who hasn't had a "terrible, horrible no good very bad day"
I grew up just loving Alexander in Alexander and the Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day. My mother read it to us a children (ok, so now you know I'm not too old!) and I was just thrilled to see such a good copy of not only it but the other Alexander stories as well. The library binding is very nice and this book will definitly be a keepsake for my children someday. If you like to have books to pass on, this one's for you!

Absolutely Positively Alexander - Fantastic!
My son's name is Alexander (goes by Alex). I gave this to him as a birthday gift and we have read it over and over many times. The three short stories are just the right length for a bedtime story. This book has humor and the boy, Alexander, is one boy that all children can relate too. The illustrations are great too! I highly recommend this for any child.

My Book Review on Alexander and the Wind-Up Mouse
I think that this is a great book for a young child to read, it is also a book that some older adults would probably like. I think that this is one of my favorite children's books. It has colorful, detailed pictures. It is a good story. It will keep children interested and wondering what will happen next. Alexander has a great friendly personality that kids will relate to. Alexander is lonley and wants a friend. Whenever he leaves his home to go find some crumbs to eat, the family that lives in the house catches him and chases him back in his hole in the wall. One day he runs into a wind-up mouse named Willy. He befriends this mouse and he decides that he wants to be a wind-up mouse too. He meets a lizard in the backyard and tells him his wish, the lizard tells Alexander to bring him a purple pebble. So Alexander goes on search for this pebble. He searches everywhere and finally finds one. But then he changes his mind and decides that he wants Willy to become a real mouse. So he wishes then goes back to his house. When he gets in his hole in the wall, he sees another mouse and asks who he is. He discovers that it is Willy, so they then live happily ever after and stay friends. I really liked this book out of any others I have read. Thats why I give it four stars and reccomend it to anyone who is looking for a book to read to their child, or to read themselves.

Review for Alexander and the Wind-Up Mouse
The Book Alexander and the Wind-Up Mouse was a great book to read. I thought that it was easy to follow along and to understand it. The pictures and drawings in the book were very cool too. I hope that if you decide to read this book, you will feel the same way about it that I do. I think that you will like reading and find it a very neat book to enjoy.
In the story, Alexander wants to be like the wind-up mouse because the wind up mouse gets more attention than he does. He meets the wind-up mouse one day and starts to talk to him. He finds out how he can become a wind-up mouse too. If you read this book, you will be able to find out what Alexander does. Will be ever become a wind-up mouse or not??

Alexander and the Wind-Up Mouse
My mother started reading this book to my brother and I when we were about 2 maybe younger. It was one of our favorite books. By the time we were about 3 we could recite the book as the pages were turned. We still have the book and I now read it to my children. I still love the book and hope my children enjoy it as much as my brother and I did.

Art of Amazement: Discover Judaism's Forgotten Spirituality
Published in Paperback by Daas Books (2003)

An Interesting Perspective
Rabbi Seinfeld gives some good insight on Jewish Spirituality in comparison to spirituality of other faiths. One gets a pretty good feel as to the roots of the such texts as the Zohar and even Kabbalah. Good insight into prayer and the hebrew language.

In some spots, the text is a little bit too deep for a layperson to understand right away. However, there are other moments which may enable you to reread such sections. It definitely has potential as a reference tool.

highest "kick" of all Jewish book I read in past 10 years...
Wow! For Jews who have looked elsewhere for meditation (like I did) this is a welcome surprise: we didn't have to leave OMMMM after all...

And for Frum Jews whose brachas sometime become a little unemotional (like me), Rabbi Seinfeld's "mind manual" will put a lot more KICK into them! You'll even surprise yourself with your kavanah...

An Illuminating Book
I am reading and slowly working on absorbing and making my own this illuminating book. There is so much to learn and I am going at it slowly as the author suggests. I am thankful for this wonderful gift and I will indulge myself in the CD soon.

An Intriguing Read
Cannon's book Keepers of the Garden deals with a client of hers, who undergoes regression and recalls details of past lives. The fascinating aspect that this book focuses on is that the client in question recalls experiences that identify him as an extra-terrestial being. The book catalogues his past experiences on alien planets and on earth and attempts to unravel the connections between them. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I am a discerning reader and do not believe everything I read and certainly this book pushes the boundaries between fact and fiction. Draw whatever conclusions you want from this book. Whatever your belief system, it provides some valuable lessons. Those in the 'KNOW' will benefit greatly from this book, as it is a real wake up call. It may also be of assistance to victims of alien abductions as an alternative explanation for their experiences. I found this book an easy and quick read as most of the text is in question and answer format. Watch out for the revelation at the end as to the past life of the subject which lead to his present incarnation. About as an impressive job as you can get. Highly recommended.

Incredible
I have read this book 3 times since 1993, and am now reading it for the 4th time. I never tire of it.

FABULOUS....
One of the best books I have ever read..... and trust me, I have read them all, or atleast most of all.......... Just be open minded and give this a shot...... You will not lose anything, but gain everything you have ever wanted.

a great resource for any preteen or teen
I am 20 years old and recieved this book at the age of 12. It was an amazing resource for me throughout my preteen year, and teen years. I was able to get non biased information, just the facts, whenever I was too embarased to ask someone. I am now looking at buying one for my 11 year old brother, so that he can learn from it the way I have.

Book for talking to preteens about many topics
This book is a very good spring board to help talk or at least begin talking about key topics to,or with preteens. This could be at own home or home of grandparent/friend/sister/brother/aunt/uncle/Godparent/spouse/neighbor/or at a pediatrican's/orthodontist's/dentist's/nurse's/psychiatrist's/psychologist's office or waiting room. At school, camp, business office or waiting room, local or school library, bookstore reading room, hospital,or at a shelter, wherever preteens are. It can be helpful for the preteen to browse through, read independently, and/or together with parent, guardian, significant other, teacher, friends, doctor, school administrator . Some kids could be ready to read it on their own independently,in privacy or out in the open in conjunction with others, now, or in the future. It could also be used as a gage to see where a child is developmentally by a parent, significant other, teacher, groups of adults or/preteens/researcher, college or graduate school student(eg. in a book club, study group, school course, and with others eg.those listed above).
As you can see Knowing and Changing;a Guide For Preteens is a book for many places, many uses, and for many people.

Every teen and parent should own one
This is the best book on being a teenager that I have ever read! And this should mean a lot to you coming from a teen (I'm a 15 year old male). It's different from other books in that it encourages teens to make their own decisions in life. It doesn't come out and say, "No! Sex is bad! You will rot in hell if you have sex before you are married!" Instead, it gives equal reasons of why to have sex and why not to and then describes all the means of birth control. But it doesn't just deal with sex, it also touches on emotions that you might have through adolecence, masturbation, what you can do if you do become pregnent, and even drugs.
