This is an extraordinary book. It is written by an author with a first class mind and genuine curiosity about his subject. Whilst one may not agree with all of it, the writing is a delight and he does not shirk dealing with controversial issues such as the influence of homosexuality on the stage and the corrupt financial practices in relation to theatre tickets, etc. Even though it was written for the 1967-1968 season, it still resonates and viewed in retrospect, it provides crucial evidence relative to the aetiology of the culture wars.

William Goldman's groundbreaking book The Season is all it's cracked up to be and more. Though a number of the people he deals with are no longer with us, many of the shows have been forgotten, and the ticket prices are quite a bit higher, it's astonishing how much the Broadway of the late 1960s resembles the Broadway of today. The same problems, the same headaches, the same disappointments, and the same triumphs are all still a part of the Great White Way. No Broadway enthusiast should be without this book; The Season is a stunning history--and current events--lesson on Broadway theatre.

Having lived in New York for so long it's scary how accurate "The Season" is, although written over 30 years ago.

Broadway has become a tourist trap with very little to offer serious theatergoers anymore except spectacle shows.

Each chapter in this book shows how Broadway was crippled with each passing season...and it makes sense that this is what it's come to.

But the book is very funny (especially the chapter on critics where he launches an all-out assault on then-New York Times reporter Clive Barnes) and explains everything you'll ever need to know about how plays and musicals are put together.

Oh, yes: there's plenty of dirt, gossip, anecdotes and name-dropping...Neil Simon, Carl Reiner, Tennessee Williams, David Merrick and NBC Reporter Edwin Newman drop in for cameos.

I really regret not ordering this book before embarking on my quest to have my mercury amalgams replaced.

Most dentists want to put crowns wherever they can remotely justify it. They are usually not necessary and lead to a root canal, then removal of the tooth.

I had a crown placed 8 years ago, I've had nothing but problems with it, 2 years after placement, I got a root canal. That did not solve the problem. Now, they recommend I get an apicoectomy. Lovely. More money for them. That is where they go into the gum and cut off the bottom of the root canaled tooth and fill it with something to stop the infection. This would stop the problems for a while, but eventually lead to my tooth being extracted. According to Dr. Jerome, this happens more often than not. There is a very predictable sequence of events. This is what keeps dentists in business.

It makes me sick to read this book after having 2 new crowns put in recently. Over $2,000. I could have saved that much by buying this book first.

Make an educated decision at the dentist's office. They are very motivated to keep you on the gravy train.

After reading this book, I know to take the shortcut and have the root canaled tooth removed. I can then have a partial made, thus ridding myself of the toxic dead tooth.

Most of this book is about the horrors of mercury. If you need to be convinced, this book will leave you with no doubts.

He explains many dental procedures and why one is better than others for certain patients. One in 5 crowned teeth dies. This puts you back on the root canal train, then the tooth extraction train. After much expense and pain.

Instead of a crown, they can do inlays or composite fillings. The dentist always wants you to do a crown. They have to saw away half of your tooth to do this, that sets you on the path of destruction.

Don't spend another dime at the dentist's office until you read this book.

This book is to the point on how your health is affected by your dentistry.Thank God there are more and more dentists who won't implant mercury/amalgam into a thier patient's mouths anymore. Some dentists are replacing the amalgam with composite and that can be even better when if it is done correctly.(Hal Huggins Protocol)

A quality-of-life saver book.

The author makes the point that once a person dies, their teeth may last thousands of years. Yet, while alive and part of an nutritional/immune system, most people are hard-pressed to keep them from rotting out of their mouth within a few years -- and think this is normal.

He lays out the chronology of most people's progressive dental deterioration; the first fillings at 8-12, progressing to crowns in 20's-30's, root canals and bridges in 30's-50's with subsequent extraction and dentures in old age. There is nothing left, after having marched arm-in-arm with the state-of-the-art dental care ... and thinking this is normal, despite folks in other parts of the world living life with a set of choppers the likes of which most dentists never even see.

The author lays out the realities and falsehoods behind each common dental procedure, as well as a dental care profession that has managed to isolate itself from the rest of medicine. This permits denial that the procedures and materials used in dentistry usually result in chronic infections and toxicity that have far-ranging, degenerative health consequences all over the body.

The latest thing is radioactive composite fillings "that show up better on x-rays". Banned from glowing wrist-watches, but OK for implantation in your mouth (the levels are "safe").

The good news is you don't have to wait the generation or two it will take for the policy-making ADA dental leadership (whose egos and prestige are at risk if the last century of treatment methods are recognized as being erroneous and harmful) to die off and reform to set in.

Tooth and gum rot can be arrested and dental health improved by changes in behavior and diet. It's your choice: have the Mountain Dew for breakfast every day, gradually destroy your dental health while setting yourself up for a lifetime of futile, painful dental work that will only establish a range of other chronic infections and diseases ... or don't.

The book lays out the information you need to manage your own dental health and find a dentist more concerned about your health than toeing the party line.

It's remarkable how advances in medicine are thought of as a major benefit of modernity. Yet, considering what's going on with cancer, dentistry, AIDS, in which politics, ego and perpetuating institutions are more important than solutions, perhaps this time will be looked upon even less favorably than when "leeching" was common. At least back then, it was lack of knowledge. Nowadays, the errors are due to perversity; the knowledge exists but is disregarded to perpetuate human power and dodge responsibility for error. Who is living in the Dark Ages?

a comprehensive collection of elements and discriptions for whatever peice of idea that has been thought of, a must have for those who really want to understand the details of the profession. Very well organized chapters, and i liked specially the coverage of nearlly all the styles old and new with nearly all the elements included in each style. Photoes are generously included but they could use some color to make them more appealing. it is nice i think if it was available on CD.

As with most of Francis D.K. Ching's publications, this is a fundamental resource to the student of architecture, as well as the practicing professional. The practice of architecture is intrinscially tied to the ability of the Architect to communicate complex ideas to a myriad of persons. To be succesful at this communication, one needs to be conversant in both the written/spoken language of architecture as well as the illustrative language of drawing. The Visual Dictionary exemplifies this concept. Organized around 68 essential concepts of design and construction - concisely written and beautifully illustrated - Francis Ching brings forth clarity in communication rarely experienced in the world of design and construction. I use this book in teaching, in practice, in reference, and in simple enjoyment. Again, a fundamental resource for the reference shelf - although it rarely sits on the shelf.

From the opening pages of this book to the last, the book is a compelling journey through Oz. The collection of Mr. Carroll's Oz memorabilia is so large that it is like trying to comprehend the distance between stars or that a few people actually have a billion dollars. This colligation of Oz collectibles somehow unites every civilization, geographic location, and human condition. It is one of the few things that have true universality.

After reading John Fricke's take on Oz, of course, based on Willard Carroll's collection, I am left wondering how history would be different were it not for Frank Baum's Oz?

The pictures are glorious, the layout intelligent and thoughtful-I will never see Oz in quite the same way again. John Fricke's writing is stellar. Willard Carroll's collection ---what can I say, WOW! 100 years of Oz is entertaining, educative and provides a new look at Frank Baum's Oz through the other end of the spyglass. This is a visit to a museum with a very knowledgeable guide through an unforgettable exhibit. Thanks for the tour. I'll be back again.

This book is a must for all collectors.

"100 Years of Oz" is a delight for everyone who has ever fallen in love with "The Wizard of Oz" (which includes just about everyone.) The success of the book lays in John Fricke's capabilities as a writer. His words are consise, thoughtful, and honest. The photographs, likewise, catch the eye like flashes of brilliant light. It is not easy to take one of America's most chershed series of books, its favorite film, and 100 years of mechandising and condense it all into one volume. Thankfully, Mr. Fricke has done that- impeccably. Buy this book today. I highly recommend it to everyone as an example of first class research. Above all, it is a time capsule of memories. Fricke will long be heralded as "Oz"'s best friend. Congratulations to all who made this book such a beautiful addition to my library.

This collection of radio editorials would be worth far more than its price if you were to receive only pages 61-64 for your money. (Think of the other 387 excellent pages as coming "at no extra charge.")

Even though the book has a somewhat regional "New York" flavor, (I'm from Texas,) I liked it.

Excellent book!! Could not put the book down. This book keeps you at the edge of your seat.

The political and racial issues are as true as they can be. Don't be mistaken, this is not a novel about minorities being victimized. The plot is an eye opener to the truth about good and bad people, no matter the race, political and/or social status. Who we are today is a direct result of the way we were raised, no matter our place or condition of origin. As Puerto Rico native, I felt extremely identified with the plot. As a member of a close-knit family, I really loved the book.

I enjoyed the book very much because it was fast paced and the characters were so real that it was easy to love them or hate them. I really appreciated the sense of family and how they took care of each other and believed in one another. The "bad guys" were extremely realistic and the evil deeds they committed were not new and have already taken place in our world. It was a very scary scenario but one that would hopefully make you stop and think and realize that we're all in this together and we need each other. I'm looking forward to another book that continues the saga of this wonderful family. Please don't let us down Mr. Caceres

The Saga of Galanor crossed the ocean and reached me in a royal blue journey; a typical Brazilian one. I took a day to open the book - I feared it somehow. When I did, the barriers of time vanished and I was thrown into the fantastic realms of Atlantis and beyond; somehow so familiar to me and, until then, so long distanced in my memory. The story is an image poem; and, the book itself is a film! Watch out, it has a magical effect!

Not only is the book a great adventure, it is beautifully put together. This book is amazing in it's artwork, it's format. It is a book like nothing you have ever seen. This is a book that you will want to pass down from generation to generation. I enjoyed it and look forward to the next saga.

Author Frank Forencich takes exercise and health from the viewpoint that we are species Homo sapiens, and if we go back to our hominid roots, we can live a healthier life. Forencich looks at hominid life--roaming the savannah (is this why we suburbanites plant lawns and are soothed by tree-lined vistas?), climbing, playing and eating a "mosaic" diet--a diet of whatever is to hand and probably not often high in sugar, salt or fats.

There are exercises of a play-like nature--a team practice with medicine balls and baskets--your team tries to fill the other team's basket with balls before they fill yours up. Or passing medicine balls through hula hoops and playing rope-a-dope on one foot with a partner. Yank him off balance and have a blast. Good for your neurological system and a hell of a lot more fun than the NordicTrak.

If you are interested in biology and want a more natural approach to exercise and health, you will find this interesting reading, and maybe it will give you ideas for a novel new fitness routine, something different than video-led routine or gym aerobics classes.

I've always been quite active, but I have wanted to add pizzazz to my otherwise gruesome workout routine. Play as if Your Life Depends on It is an excellent guide that helps the reader integrate unconventional workout and play moves into our ordinary lives. Frank Forencich gives workout and exercise a whole new meaning by explaining how hunting and gathering is relevant to everyday physical activity. This book is as essential as it is insightful. I for one look forward to play as though my life depends on it!

This book is fun to read, thoughtful, and inspirational. Frank Forencich has figured out how fitness got boring and why "working out" really seems like work: we've forgotten the importance of play. This book is satisfying on a number of levels -- intellectual (it discusses the importance of function in an evolutionary context), emotional (it reminds us how fun it USED to be to exercise), and practical (it gives us good, simple roadmaps to recapturing the love of movement we had as kids). Forencich gives the reader a great paradigm: focus on function, and the other benefits of fitness will come naturally. The title isn't just tongue-in-cheek -- by the end of the book you realize that not just the quality of your life but your life itself might really depend on your playing as if your life depends on it. This book goes way beyond your typical exercise book. It's the only one of its kind I know of. As a fitness book, though, it's definitely the best I've read. Ever.

This book was the answer to a prayer. I could not decide which of the teachings by different denominations was correct. Once I read the book, a lightbulb came on however. Thank you, Mr. Hart.

The book of Daniel gave us prophecies that laid down a precise pattern for us to follow, as they were fulfilled exactly as written. Frank Hart demonstrates that interpreting the book of Revelation, the close up view of Daniel's 70th prophetic week, in any less of a straightforward and exact manner is indeed private interpretation and a violation of 2 Peter 1:20! This book is the church's wake up call to cease and desist from allowing every form of private interpretation to be freely taught. For if Revelation does not mean what it says, then who is the wiseman, prophet, scholar, or annointed one who will tell us what God "really meant" by what He said??? This is indeed the modern church's Pandora's box. Thank you Frank for setting the record straight.

EARTH SHATTERING! This is the wake up call to the modern Western church concerning prophecy. The ear tickling myths surrounding popular Western thinking are exposed by the straightforward, as it reads, contextual method. Daniel's prophecies are precisely and historically ordered, setting the tone for the book of Revelation, which is basically a close up view of Daniel's 70th week. Frank Hart demonstrates that the chronologically written order of the timing factors in Revelation are as is, AND SHOULD NOT be reinterpreted! Most all of the current thinking rejects that Revelation is straight up. Mr. Hart proves this is a serious mistake by allowing the text to explain everything, verse by verse, chapter by chapter. IF YOU LOVE THE TRUTH, regardless of how painful it may be, you'll want this book. If you only want warm fuzzies that tell you what you want to hear, then buy something else.

It's said that a writer should write about what they know. It is apparent that Mr. Strunk is intimately familiar with south central Kentucky and north central/eastern Tennessee. If the reader is familiar with this area, they will instantly recognize the composite characters made up from local residents. Life in this area is different than life any where else. Mr. Strunk has hit the nail on the head with his descriptions and depictions. "Throwback" paints an accurate picture of the thinking patterns and survival instincts of the people of the region.

While reading Throwback I was greatly impreassed by the way the author was able to make me feel that I knew the people in the story in a personal way although each had such a different personality. I was floored by the author ability.

Frank C. Strunk's THROWBACK is a must read for anyone who loves a good story and the mountains. Strunk is not concerned with political correctnessas are some writers. He is more interested in portraying the true character of mountain people both good and bad.
