Easy on the eyes, a good read.
As I read this book I feel as though the Author (Francoise Tourniaire) is in the same room with me giving me calm reassuring and sensible advice. The writing style does not assume you're an idiot, nor does it assume you're a guru. I have not finished it yet, however it's the kind of book that will probably be a keeper.

The unknown wife of Louis XIV
I read this book 3 months ago and I really enjoyed to know the second wife of Louis XVI. Madame de Maintenon had a bad reputation but I think she was very clever, very sensitive and kind. Although sometimes she acted in a way we cannot approve we have to see her in an historical perpective. She had a strong character, moral strength and was very different from other women of her century. She leaved in a promiscuous and immoral time where the intrigue ruled and it was very well described by the author. I sank deeply into the XVIIth century and it was with great regret that I closed the book.

A woman far ahead of her time
An amazing account of a time and woman like no other. The Countess di Castiglione can be looked upon as a precursor to many artists that have explored self-portraiture, though her "art" captured her narcissism more than any underlying concept or expression. In beautiful costumes from her personal collection, the Countess was photographed and then had artists paint over the portrait to create scenes from history, current operas, or novels of the time. This book compliments the wonderful exhibit recently displayed by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. I had the pleasure of seeing the exhibit and I was floored by the effortless artistry by which the Countess expressed her deep-seated self love (and loathing). I highly recommend finding out more about this beautiful woman, so scandalous in her time, so historically important in ours.

La\Robe Mauve de Valentine
Published in Paperback by French & European Pubns (11 January, 1993)

Dramatic charm written by Sagan
"Robe Mauve de Valentine" is the story about a woman called free wild Valentine falls in love with her young nephew who dreams of an artist.
Valentine is a woman who repeats fickleness for every half a year.Valentine is unconscious and a liar. She plays with a fine trick and blames people maliciously. However, I don't hate her.Because Valentine is really cute. She is delicate, cheerful, and has a deep personal character.Valentine is supremely feminine.
I had an image called the writer who expresses an adolescent virgin's delicate feelings skillfully about Francoise Sagan once.
However, she also can write writing for amusement with the humor.
A dramatic charm written by Sagan is neither the theme nor logic.
It is original human relations and is bitter and sweet emotion which is full of characters.

The Definitive Tome on da Vinci as genius
LEONARDO DA VINCI: MASTER DRAFTSMAN is a magnificent addition to the library about this extraordinary Renaissance genius. Published as a 'catalogue' for the exhibition that just left the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the weighty book is successful on all levels. The Curator and driving force fo the exhibition, Carmen C. Bambach, has firmly established her credentials in this vast survey of da Vinci's drawings of human anatomy, both precise observations (eg 'Abdomen and Left Leg of a Nude Man Standing in Profile page 556) and artistic distortions ( the grotesque faces on pages 684 - 693), of his 'inventions' as a scientist, of simple observations ('A Copse of Trees'on page 469 for instance), of the technical aspects of drawing and painting (brilliantly executed examples of draping the figure as on pages 289 and 563), and sketches for numerous painting proposals. The first 225 pages of this elegant book are devoted to various essays about da Vinci, all written by erudite scholars who are immensely readable. The last half of the book is an in-depth presentation of the catalogue of the show, serenely annotated by Carmen Bambach. There are ample sections of documentation and easy references to the bibiliography and timeline for da Vinci's life. The drawings and paintings are beautifuly reproduced on first quality paper and the book, (though heavy as a lap book!), is artistically designed and produced. This magnificent volume will be the gold standard for da Vinci's drawings and should be part of every library on the Renaissance and on art history. Highly Recommended.

Fun, cute images of France & French language & culture
I teach French in an elementary school four afternoons a week, working with children that range in age from kindergarten to 6th grade. The students have great fun with this coloring book, learning a new word each day and coloring in the the picture that goes with it. The page with Paris is one of the best in the book as it has a cute and simplified drawing of the Seine and the major touristic sites of the city at different sides of the river's banks: Eiffel Tower, Sacred Heart, Notre Dame, and Arc of Triomphe. The drawings are large, fun, and not overly intricate; it doesn't take more than 10 minutes to color in one page. The coloring book serves as an alphabet book with a letter introduced on each page and then a corresponding picture. The pages are definitely of higher quality (more durable) than in a regular coloring book. Beware that there is no pronunciation guide to accompany it. There's no dictionary either, but it is not needed as the picture is enough of an explanation. The pages will not tear out easily if you're planning to hang up the the artwork afterwards. Kids will definitely have fun with this coloring book in or outside of school though. Even toddlers who are beginning to color will have fun with this book.
