Rogers? Foster? Meier? Murcutt!
While everyone in this world seems to be keen to build more and more complicated buildings, that are later called sustainable (...) you should have a look at one of the more unknown top-architects of the XX century. Glenn Murcutt began in the sixties to mix modern influences with the traditional Australian Architecture and has since then produced a new style, that is not only wonderful in design but also features a great low-tech aproach to sustainable architecture.

note: green can look really cool!

most inspiring 20th century architect
I am presently studying architecture and find this book as a excellent resource book, I am also aware of my lecturers enthusiasm on this book. It has expanded my architectural vocab enormously this last 12 months. Congratulations to the author and also Mr Glenn Murcutt himself on a striking book, hope to read more of this material in the future

An excellent companion or inspiration (if you haven't been)
as with most guides, the best give you an understanding of context as well as information on what you're seeing. after a recent visit to the museum, with my head full of memories of the arresting paintings i'd just seen, i picked up this book as a memento. while it doesn't fully take me back (after all, what guide can transport you to the roof, overlooking the seine river and the louvre?), it does help you recall the wonderful memories of days spent wandering the halls.

the book doesn't catalouge the entire museum and some of my favorites weren't in there, but it does have an incredible selection of art. additionally, the commentary is well written and accessable. most importantly, they've thoughtfully put in several sidebars that help you understand the art scene in paris at the time - making the paintings much more relevant.

definitely one of the better museum guides i've seen. reproduction quality is quite good as well. i've shared it with several friends who haven't been and now they're clamoring to go.

Fantastic!
This book covers the amazing collection of the Musee D'Orsay very well. This book is an absolute must for an art lover, art historian, or visitor of the museum. I did not have as much time in the museum as I would have liked. One could spend days in the Musee D'Orsay, and this book brings me right back and allows me to reexamine the works I missed, forgotten, or wanted to spend more time with.

Excellent book for getting your baby into swimming
I bought this book when my baby was 6 weeks old. I love to swim and wanted to introduce her to the water in a fun, safe way. This book was outstanding because it provided easy to follow method. It seemed to answer just about all my questions. I referred to it (and still do) constantly. I probably read it three times to absorb the information. It gave instruction on how to: introduce the baby to water, take your baby underwater, swim with your baby, games to play and steps to get your toddler headed towards swimming. My baby is now an 18 month old toddler who absolutely loves the water. She will jump from me and "swim" to the ladder (she needs some help from me for floatation - she tends to want to go vertical through the water now) she can hold her breath really well and knows when she surfaces that she can take a breath (and when she goes under to hold it). This book provided the perfect approach for us - never pushing, always make sure the baby is having fun and let her progress at her rate. I can't stress how important that is - sometimes she would plateau for a couple of months before making progress again but it isn't about forcing them to swim - it is about making sure they are comfortable in the water. It did cover safety of your baby too. But this is not a "water safe" your baby in six weeks approach type book. This is a slower more baby friendly book. The pictures are awesome and as one person commented before it would be a great coffee table book. My daughter loved to look at the pictures of the babies swimming too. I can't say enough good things about this book. If you want to get your baby or toddler into the water without fear I would recommend this book. Also Water Baby A first book of water skills by Lauren Heston is good too. I thought this book had more details but they go nice together.

Excellent resource (good coffee table book too)
This book is written along the lines of a traditional child-rearing guide but is laid out with better design and a stronger flow of readability. Essentially it emphasizes the multi-sensory experience and confidence swimming brings to baby and the bonding that occurs with the parents. Excellent color photography add to the high-gloss paper and hardcover binding. A little thin but packed with good information. Highly recommended for new parents.

great source book
I first bought this book after seeing it reviewed in an architure/interior decorating periodical. It contains valuable, accurate information, and I recommend it as a gift for a decorator, collector, or antique lover. I just ordered another copy, as I gave the first one to a friend who is an interior designer, and who also thinks the book is excellent. It's easy to use, and its information is extremely helpful if you are shopping in New York--it saves roaming aimlessly. I wish it came in paperback so it was easier to carry with you while shopping because it is so reliable.

Alma Mahler or the Art of Being Loved

A TYPICAL LOVE AFFAIR IN BELLE EPOQUE ERA
Like CAROLINE OTERO,MISIA SERT and a few others,ALMA MAHLER came to symbolize the emerging power of women in the arts,at least in terms of the influence they had over their famous husbands. What FRANCOISE GIROUD tried to establish with that book,is that GUSTAV MAHLER gradually destroyed his wife's personnality. We've come a long way since then, but back then,it was almost impossible for a woman to made a name for herself ,even if she had a strong personnality. It was simply put a man's world, and FRANCOISE GIROUD in a true feminist way has found herself a good subject with the love affair between the composer and ALMA.I enjoyed reading this a lot. It's actually not a so called biography, more an essay about love and the way it can alter your life.

Worth every penny
I attended a lecture by Jean-Marc at Microsoft's MOSAIC (Microsymposium on Analysis and Synthesis of Intuitively Conceived Geometrical Art). Castera's work is unique and brilliant. The book is worth it for the hundreds, maybe thousands of giant color plates of Morroccan mosaics alone, and Castera's exposition of the artistic technique and culture of North Africa is excellent.

The core of his work, though, is the mathematical analysis of mosque mosaics, and his rigorous but accessible explanation of tiling rules is fantastic. He goes all the way from how to construct a Solomon's Seal on graph paper to multi-dimensional group theory and back again. I can't say enough good things about Castera's work and this book.

Consider it an investment in a lifetime fascination.
