Things We Couldn't Say by Diet Eman
Focus on the Family radio station featured Diet Eman April 2001, during one of my drives to work. I heard a portion of the most gripping account of how Diet was arrested (with undiscovered stolen ration cards for hidden Jews and false ID cards for downed allied piolots). There she sat in a train station surrounded by six German soldiers, praying very hard for the grace of God to help her to get rid of those papers hidden in her bra, a sure death sentence. To distract one guard, or perhaps two, would be possible, but how would all six be distracted at the same time so that she could get rid of that envelope? I couldn't tune in to the radio the following day. I was left with the most exciting alternative, to read the book. Diet's story will dwarf anyone's troubles and serves to inspire how faith and reliance on God can manage the seemingly impossible while sculpting one's heart with a strong dose of humility.

John 15:13
I cannot emphasize, underline, or highlight ENOUGH how much you need to read this must-read of must-reads! This is the best story I've ever read and, hence, the best book I've encountered in my 22 years. To grasp true commitment to Christ and, therefore, to mankind is to read Hein and Diet's sacrificial walk of love. I would daresay that, granted the wish to meet one deceased person, Hein might very well be the one. "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." (Jn 15:13). Hein and Diet captured this verse's message and fearlessly followed...inspiration epitomized.

Making the Right Choices
This is the most encouraging book I have ever read about the holocaust. It beckons the reader to stand up and do the right thing in the midst of an overpowering adversary. It is Diet Eman's story of love, adventure, and courage. It is a book written with a disarming openness that is founded in her faith in God. After reading this book, you can't help but admire and love this wonderful Christian woman and her fiance', Hein Sietsma.

Hein Sietsma died in Dachau on January 20, 1945.

Strengthening your Daily Devotional Reading
My mom told me about this Bible so I purchased it. I've been telling everyone that I know to get it. I've only had it for a week, but it has inspired me to want to read the Bible daily. This Bible is written so that everyone can read & understand it. I can see this being a very important tool to help me become a mature Christian. If you are looking for help in your daily devotional reading, don't wait any longer, get the Daily Walk Bible!!!!

Great way to the read the bible in a year
A friend recommended this Bible to me. I usually use a NIV Bible and wasn't sure about this translation, but it is wonderful. It is not like the Living Bible where everything is written in more modern terms. It is similar to the NIV only easier to understand.

The Bible is divided so that you read six days and have the seventh day to reflect and/or catch up. Each day's reading begins with a devotion, a synopsis of the reading, things to think about concerning the reading, and suggestions as to how to apply the lessons learned to your everyday life. It is not simply a devotional. It is the complete Bible with thought provoking commentary and simple explanations that anyone can understand. I highly recommend it to anyone...even those who do not desire to read the Bible in a year. It is a great Bible for everyday study and use at church.

Wonderful, easy-to-understand translation of the Bible
I purchased this particular bible based upon "Power for Living"'s praise for the New Living Translation, and the other reviewer who said I'd be glad I bought it in less than a month. They're both right. I'm sorry to say I had never sat down and read the Bible at any great length until now (at age 51). Now I've read most of the New Testament, and plan to finish the whole Book within a year. The "Daily Walk" introductions for the various pieces are very informative and well done. I think anyone who gets this version will be well-pleased.

The McKeown books are great.
Obviously, I haven't read this latest edition of the price guide since it won't be available until April. I have purchased two previous editions and they were worth the money. I look forward to the release of the latest edition. Every camera collector should have this price guide. Unlike Lind's List Camera Price Guide and Master Data Catalog, this book gives good information and pictures to help you identify cameras and grow in knowledge. I haven't utilized my Lind's book, but I take my McKeown's book on every collecting expedition.

Comments on Price Guide to Antique and Classic Cameras
Like previous editions, this exceptionally well organized, indexed and illustrated book is the leader in its field. It is a must for serious collectors of classic cameras and related items.

Camera Collector's Bible
McKeown's Price Guide to Antique and Classic Cameras is the Bible for camera collectors. It is a must, since it contains almost all of the information needed to identify a camera, including, when it was made, any variations and a value of the camera. It will pay for it's self the within a very short time, maybe even the first time you use it to puchase and/or sell a camera.

A Strong Woman
Rosa Parks was a Black woman who lived in a time of unequality. Blacks were being treated as though they were lower and were lost of the many priveleges that white people had. Well, Rosa Parks didn't let what they thought get in her way. She stood for what she believed in and stuck by it all the way. By refusing to sit at the end of the bus, Rosa showed me how strong, independent, daring, and brave she was. She knew of the consequences yet it didn't stop her. I really admire her.
This book came across me after my friend Catherine read it and recommended it to me. She told me that it was a good book and that I should read it. She told me that it would touch my heart and would help me see Rosa Parks in a different way. Seeing the cover, I knew that it would talk about one of the most important events of her life-the incident at the bus.
I enjoyed this book very much. My favorite part was when she refused to sit at the back of the bus.She demonstrated acts of bravery and courage. She showed them that she was equal and that no one had the right to treat them differently. That event also proved that small acts can make big differences in the world. One little protest made a positive change in the way of the world. This helped me want to be more active in our world. I realized that the blacks had to go through so much to be where they are today. It helped me appreciate them more. This book should be read by everyone!

This is a good Biagrophy to read about Black History
The title of my book is "Rosa Parks:My Story".The story takes place in the South. The most interisting factin the beginning of the book is that rosa lived through racism. When Rosa was going to school predjuced people would throw things at her.At the end of my book the most important fact is that she wasan activist in the N.A.A.C.P.Also she worked toward ending racism, and she is still living today.

the rosa parks story
Rosas life story is amazing how she puts every detail on how the blacks were treated(like dirt!) If you want to know more about the amazing story of Rosa Parks, who refused to move on the bus for a white man,and did a fifty-six mile march to Montgomery, with a whole bunch of other blacks who were tired of getting treated like they were.If you want to know more about this amazing life of rosas buy this book immediately!!!!!!!!!!

KJV Concord Wide Margin Bible
It was a hard decision to buy this Bible verses others that were offered. On the good side, this Bible is made of quality material and has a very good feel. There is plenty of room for your own notes. However, I purchased this Bible because it was supposed to have a good concordance and a reasonable glossary. Both were more incomplete than a very inexpensive Bible from [the store]. Perhaps I'll use the note pages to complete the concordance. The Bible was so highly recommended that I would have taken it if it had a picture of a building on its front cover. I was pleased to see that the cover is a normal black leather cover with Holy Bible across the front. Only its box has the picture of the buiding.

Absolutly nothing like it!
I have been a Christian for 13 years and I have had a few Scofields, Thompson Chain and even, the Cambridge competitor, the [$$] Oxford Wide Margin. All were KJV Bibles, of course, and all where nice Bibles. But, I have always admired the quality, workmanship and finish of a Cambridge WM. There is nothing like this Bible. From the lined note pages to the quality of the Calf Skin leather all the way down to the "Bible Paper."
My first Scofield lasted nine months. My second lasted through my first two semesters of Bible College. My Thompson Chain has been faithul and lasted me for 9 years! And the Oxford...I couldn't ever get used to it. But, now I must say I am ready to "settle down" with a Bible that could easily last until my new born child graduates high school and starts college!
I look forward to reading and studying God's preserved Word in this unique package!

Finally found it!
None of the Christian book stores in the nearby metropolis seem to carry any kind of specialty bible like this. Same thing with most of the Christian book websites that I knew about. Why I had not thought to look on Amazon earlier I don't know, but I finally found this wide-margin Cambridge KJV1611 bible that I absolutely love! No messy commentaries to confuse and distract you from God's Word and I have found that the non-red letter actually adds so much to my reading. I have been able to spot check a handful of the references in the middle column with pictures of original KJV1611 leaves and the cross references are also from the original KJV1611 (in addition to other cross references). The original text of the dedication from the translators to King James, AND 18 pages of commentary about the translation from the translators to the reader is included. (According to Cambridge, this letter to the readers was rarely printed after 1611). If you are serious about growing in your Christian walk and are a person who likes to write notes, then I would encourage you to consider purchasing this bible. My comments from here would just repeat what most other reviewers have said.

A must read for newly diagnosed patients and their families.
As a personal trainer and post-rehabilitation specialist I have worked with many breast cancer patients. This book is an easy to understand, comprehensive compilation of information that patients and their families NEED to know. Particularly refreshing were the sections on seeking additional diagnosis opinions and participating fully in your treatment plans. Too often the patient is left out of the loop and ends of a "victim" of their treatment. The author explains what you should and shouldn't be included in, and why.

I found this a quick and simple read. Perfect for the spouse, parents or children of the patient. I read it in an afternoon and then referred back to it as needed. I bought it for a client and am now recommending it to all my breast cancer clients. Great book!

This should be REQUIRED reading for women.
A breast cancer diagnosis puts a woman's life into a free-fall. Dr. Link explains how to take charge of a situation over which you feel you have no control. He has offered a concise, up-to-date compilation of information necessary for a pro-active role in breast cancer treatment. He lets women know in understandable language that there are options available and helps sort throught the facts in order to make intelligent, informed decisions.

I discovered Dr. Link's book AFTER I had been diagnosed and had already received a second opinion on my own. He helped me sort throught the maze of chemotherapy treatments, and gave me the confidence I needed to make the right choices for me. I was so impressed with his book that I have donated copies to our local hospital to be given to women at the time of initial diagnosis.

If you are facing this nightmare of a journey, take this book with you...

Excellent Guide for Newly Diagnosed
I read this book the week before my biopsy and found it surprisingly reassuring. It is a comprehensive, easy-to-read overview of breast cancer and its treatments, covering everything you need to know as a newly-diagnosed breast cancer patient. It is a good first read for people who don't feel ready to go into the level of detail and complexity of Susan Love's book, but need to understand the cancer they are facing ASAP. The style is very practical, with checkpoints at the end of each chapter to help frame questions for your doctors. It quickly made me feel more in control so I could begin to think about next steps, as well as understand the lingo and the goal of different treatments.

Teamwork & Teamplay

Authors: James Hallie Cain, Jim Cain, and Barry Jolliff
Amazon base price: $39.95

The best adventure-based education book ever published!
Teamwork & Teamplay by Jim Cain and Barry Jolliff is one of the most complete texts I have ever read on the subject of adventure-based activities. The activities illustrated in Chapter 4 are numerous, and most were new to me. Chapter 5 shows how to construct each prop required for the activities, and the bibliography in Chapters 1 and 8 are without a doubt the most complete of any published to date. The writing style is easy to follow, and the graphics, photographs and illustrations make reading the book a joy. Every time I pick up this book I find more ideas for experiential activities. I would highly recommend this book for anyone wishing to increase their knowledge of the experiential training world.

Wow, what a book!
I try to keep up on new books, especially in the field of teambuilding and cooperative games. I picked up a copy of Teamwork & Teamplay about 3 weeks ago, and I am still finding wonderful ideas, activities and information throughout the book. I needed some new activities for my youth group, there were many in this book. I needed to find some ideas for other books on group games, and I found an extensive bibliography (just as promised). I decided to construct a few of the props myself, and found a well illustrated chapter on making your own equipment. I then tried to find a supplier of some specialty climbing webbing, and sure enough, right there in Chapter 8, I found dozens of places to buy equipment. Holy Cow, Jim Cain and Barry Jolliff, I've never seen a more complete manual in my 15 years of working in this field. Great Job, and if this program allowed more than 5 stars, I would easily suggest 10 for this effort. I'm going to empty off my teambuilding bookshelf, and just keep Teamwork & Teamplay up there.

WOW!!!
I've worked with high school groups and some corporate groups in outdoor adventure education for more than 12 years and this book would have been most helpful earlier in my career. This is a MUST BUY for anyone who in involved in training or education. The vaule of the book is so much higher than the acutal price. Once again. This is a MUST BUY for your personal or business libaray.

brings American history to life
Although I'm not much of a history buff, I read this book at the advice of a friend. By the end of the first chapter I was hooked. Thom brings the adventures of the Clark family to life. The book is accurate from a historical perspective and leaves the reader with a new appreciation of the courage and sacrifice behind our country's westward expansion. A must read.

Great Revolutionary era history from the Frontier
This is the best novel of Revolutionary American history I have ever read. The story of the Clark family is incredible, especially that of two particular sons, George and William. Perhaps the main theme of this book is leadership. George Rogers Clark was a phenomenal leader. He almost single-handedly won the western frontier during the Revolution. In the end, he was ruined rather than rewarded, for his efforts. As his inner fire dies, it is momentarily rekindled by his young brother, who departs to co-lead the greatest adventure in American History. Thom's depiction of George's brutal marches on Kaskaskia and Vincennes, and the Journey of the Corps of Discovery, is a masterwork.

One of the BEST historical novels ever !
I have always enjoyed American history, but this novel as you read it makes it seem as if you are there with the Clarks through good and bad times both. I laughed alot and was at times to the point of almost tears throughout the book. If you are interested in American history this is a must read about the opening of the frontiers during and after the revolutionary war. You will not be disappointed.

A must read for anyone feeling "lost"in midlife
I could not recommend this book more highly! It is an absolute "must read" for anyone searching for meaning during the mid-life years. Although the book is small in size, it manages to capture the essence of our struggle for purpose and a sense of congruity. I recommend it to everyone I meet that wants to enrich their life. I am personally grateful to Mr. Hollis for making this wonderful resource available to all of us!

A powerful, insightful book
I have dozens of books that I recommend to clients, and a few that I suggest to friends. There's only one I have given as a gift a half-dozen to a dozen times. This is it.

Hollis is an insightful therapist with a hopeful AND realistic perspective on mid-life and the difficulties that can beset us as we realize that "this is it", that we're not preparing for adulthood anymore, that we are there and better make something of it. He is also a gifted writer who can take Jungian theory and bring it down to earth, explaining it clearly without oversimplifying. (I'm more of a hard-nosed research-based cognitive-behavioural type myself, and I still think the book is brilliant.)

Best of all, he is a judicious self-editor. Too many self-help books have one idea that gets padded out to 300 pages. (In the process of writing one of my own, I came across dozens of bad examples.) Hollis is concise and clear. The text of the book is 117 pages, worth twice as much for being half as thick as he could have made it.

My suggestion: Buy it, read it, apply it, and then go buy copies for your mid-life friends' birthdays. On a selfish note, it's great not to be stuck for 40th birthday present ideas any more.

If you want to not be insane and bitter past 50, read this!
This is the BEST book about getting safely to the other side of 50. If is NOT pop-psyche or New Age. It is solid Jungian psychology. It is written to and for an educated audience but is jargon free. His prose is very good. It is a short book and therefore one that actually can be read in a couple of sittings. It shows the process of how one develops survival mechanisms at an early age that become threadbare in adulthood, but are very hard to recognize and change without some honest reflection and hard work. But he makes an excellent case that failing to do the work leads to a deepening of the misery one often experiences at the onset of mid-life. Hollis tells the reader what must be done, and makes it seem exciting rather than painful.

long knife
this story shows how the efforts of "george rogers clark" contributed to the growth of this country. we are used to hearing about the exploits of the revolutionary war but not often do we get a chance to know what was going on in the northwest territory. this is one of the best books i have ever read that covers how important a part was played by what was happening there. i recommend this book as an excellent read and most informative.

Not a quick read, but well worth it.
This is the second book I've read by James Alexander Thom. I love the way this author writes. Like the first book that I ready, Follow The River, this book pulled me in and I couldn't wait to get back to reading it to see what happened next. Thom does a superb job in his research. I read the book over the Christmas holiday when I was travelling. After the holidays I happened to catch a History Channel presentation on George Rogers Clark. To my surprise, Thom was included among the experts that they interviewed. I would recommend that anyone who likes to read about history and have it brought to life in the story read this book. I can't wait to read another book by Thom.

Superb
I read this book years ago, but the story of George Rogers Clark has stayed with me. Thom is one of those rare authors that can paint pictures with his masterful weaving of words. A fictional presentation of a real-life hero, a man who accomplished amazing things and lived and outstanding life - and he is one that has long been overshadowed in the history books to a degree by his younger brother's feats (William Clark, famed adventurer of the Lewis & Clark team).

Thom has done a superb job of showcasing George Rogers Clark in this book. It's an outstanding read and could well set the reader on an adventure for more historical fiction from this fine author. Be sure to check out 'From Sea to Shining Sea' as well.
