Stephen Simon's book is an inspiring read. Although this is a genre as yet not recognized by Hollywood, Simon maintains that these movies already exist, and indeed have done so for quite some time. As the Louvre is just so darn big, you need this book if for no other reason than to whittle down the museum to what interests you. New York City's Met. is big, but frankly, the whole Met. would be one half of one floor, of one wing, in the Louvre. Most Knopf guides are very detailed and thoughtfully written and this is no exception. Indispensible for your visit(s) to the Louvre.

I received this book as a gift when I left to study abroad in Paris a few years ago. I went to Paris to study art and I found this book to be an excellent guide to this fantastic museum. It is so interesting and informative. And when you are done visiting the Louvre, you have an excellent souvenir!

A treasure trove of images and information making it almost redundant to go to the Louvre itself. Too bad there are not guides like this for the Musee D'Orsay and other museums of Paris. It seems that the guide should have been expanded to include the other museums since the Knopf city guide book gives the others so little space.

This is a complex and deeply felt tale that uses the mystery form brilliantly. I am great fan of Simon's books.

This may be the best book in a superb series.

I think this is the best Moses Wine novel.

My response to the material presented in this book when I first encountered it in 1993 was an unqualified "YES!", and time has not diminished my enthusiasm. This is and was the only system that has ever resonated so deeply with me in terms of understanding why "things are the way they are", not only in my own life, but with regard to the human experience in general.

I found the model of the soul experience in the earth plane presented in this book to be intellectually coherent, spiritually satisfying, and emotionally comforting. The book also contains some interactive exercises that were remarkably accurate in helping me determine my own "spiritual profile" based upon the Michael model.

If you have nagging questions that you just can't resolve (e.g., Why is life so unfair? Why do bad things happen to good people?), or if you're just curious about why we're all here, you may find this book to be very enlightening. I sure did!

The book's one weakness: As another reviewer pointed out, the editing could have been a lot better. However, this is a minor issue and does not detract from the quality of the information presented.

The most interesting book explaining why we're here and what we're supposed to do. The book is not easy to figure out but once you "get it" It's cool. This is one of those things that if you're meant to read this book and you've gotten this far, you'll probably read it. Explains why fat people are fat, why you marry the person you marry, have the job you have, why you as an individual think the way you think. Tells where we go when we eventually leave the planet. Does it make any dfference? I don't know. Frankly an old woman told me once, " forget all this stuff and just live your life." Maybe that's what it's all about after all.

This is an excellent book on the Michael teachings, which can serve both as a clear and manageable introduction to newcomers to the Michael information as well as a resource for those already familiar with the Michael system. The book may well have changed my life. Highly recommended.

This is one of the funniest fantasy books I've ever read. Brilliantly done!

This was one of the first science fiction books I picked up off the bookshelves. It was the one that got me hooked. It's a great, entertaining blend of science fiction and fantasy starring a streetwise, one-eyed cat out to solve a murder mystery. I strongly recommend this book to any science fiction or mystery reader.

If you liked Brin's Uplift Series, you'll like this story. Man has found a way to raise the intelligence of animals and making them thinking, reasoning beings (i'm not gonna tell you how), and of course this brings on a whole new set of social problems. Read the book. It was a fun read, I read it through in only two sittings. Simon Hawke has written a humorous and entertaining tale. Catseye was a great character, callus with a wicked sence of irony. The book had me laughing out loud.

I am very very intrested in autisum. i hope to teach autistic kids somday anyhow this was the frist book on it I read. it is one of the best if you want o start your bacsi understanding of autism

I have read too many books and articles on autism to count but this is the book I go back to time and again and recommend it to anyone with an autistic child. I even share it with teachers and paraprofessionals. The approach is common sense and unlike many books the therapy does not degrade the child but shows you ways to get around their behaviors or use their own obsessions to their and your benefit! The author is very creative in the way she individualizes each childs strengths and needs. Excellent source! It's right on the money! I can't say enough about this book! You can tell that the author actually lived with autistic children. It's a big difference than those that only observe for a few hours. She covers it all!

I was employed at the Linwood Children's Center from 1985-1990. I currently work with a developmentally disabled population, but Linwood was my first job in this field. I can imagine no finer training ground than Linwood, and virtually every clinical skill I now have was first honed at Linwood. Jeanne Simons, who as a young social worker in the 1940s learned her craft from Leo Kanner, (the psychiatrist who first identified autism as a distinct syndrome in the late 30s), is one of the true pioneers in the field of autism, and this book represents the distillation of her lifetime's wisdom and knowledge. Buy this book if you've a child diagnosed with autism; and if you're interested in working with autistic children/adults, buy this book, and call Linwood for a job application.

A most interesting pictorial collection of forlorn sadness.
I find the images both beautiful and emensly contemplative, images that conjure ghosts and spirits real or perhaps imagined, yet provacative none the less. One ponders how these phantoms shall apear in a thousand years, and rue the thought how long they may have lasted would they not been murdred by circumstances. The text that accompanies the images an important, interesting, and informative heuristic. This book ostensibly one any Artist, Architectae, or student of history should have in his Librarié.

Left me wishing the book was twice as long.

A wonderful book full of haunting images of the castles and houses of Ireland that have now fallen into ruin and decay. Excellent subjects for infrared photography.

The photographs are on the whole well composed and the overall effect can be quite disturbing. An explanation of the fate of the various buildings is included. A book which sits on the shelf ready to show visitors instantly the nature and feel of infrared photography.

There is an excellent supporting article by Pete Schermerhorn in the Official Infrared FAQ describing his visits to the places photographed in the book together with map grid references.

This book is important for adoptees, adoptive parents and grandparents, as well as others who are loving and parenting across racial lines. While this is not a "how to" book, it is clear from the adoptees' stories what they believe their adoptive parents did well and what they wish their adoptive parents had done differently. It stresses the difficult issues but also reflects that transracial adoption can and does work. It helps parents to understand the importance of nurturing a relationship between the adoptive family and the adoptees' ethnic communities.

I really enjoyed this book and it let me see that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Becaue I am adopted in a white home and Birracial the times have been hard however, with this book I feel like I am not the only one in that kind of situation. This book has helped me discover the true me, and also helped me to realize that if I am not true to myself I am only hurting myself. I wish there were more books like this on the market, and I would recommend it to anyone who is adopted or raising a minority child in a white home.

This book is a must for any white couple looking to adopt african american or mixed raced children. It is a wonderful complilation of interviews of adult adoptees who were raised in white parent homes. Since every family make up, values, and religious beliefs are different you get a good range of opinions and experiences through the words of the adoptees themselves. Find out what strenthened these individuals and what didn't, maybe through they're experiences you can change the future of your own child.

This is the best and most complete document about the life and work of Astor Piazzolla. The authors inter-link Piazzolla's work with the major events of his life and the artistic and political context of the time. If you are really interested in learning about Piazzolla, you should go ahead and buy this book.

Nearly ten years after Astor Piazzolla's death, the debate still rages about whether or not his music is "tango". Well, some of it is, and some of it isn't. But the roots of all his music lie deep in the tango tradition and whether or not a particular piece is or isn't tango is of no real importance. The fact is that Astor Piazzolla composed some of the finest music in any genre and all Argentines can take pride in that. I have been a fan of Astor Piazzolla for nearly 30 years but only knew the music. After having read Le Grand Tango, I now feel as though I know the man. Having "met" him, my understanding and admiration of both the music and the man has increased exponentially. Azzi and Collier have authored an easy to follow, entertaining and informative book about El Maestro. One learns not only about his music but about his forceful personality and the forces which shaped Piazzolla and drove him to be the most dazzling musician of the 20th century. His life, his loves, his triumphs and his failures all spring to life here. Though most readers will likely be hardcore fans of Piazzolla, its flowing style makes it an engaging hagiographical read for anyone who has even a mild interest in music history or in the forces and personalities which have shaped and regenerated tango throughout second half of the 20th century.

Piazzola means tango for many people. The first tango music I ever purchased was Piazzola's music. His music dominated Sally Porter's movie, "Tango Lesson." This is a man that you must know about if you like tango, the dance and the music. Even if your interest is 20th century music, you will be fascinated. The story of Piazzola's life is a story of how cultures, music, and people are interrelated. As a person who was born in Argentina, his music was tango; as a kid named "Lefty" who grew up in Manhattan, he felt the influence of jazz. As a musician known as "El Gato," he built on the tango traditions of Troilo, Sarli, and Pugliese.

He began his musical career as a musician who could not read music. Anibal Troilo hired Piazzola because he had memorized the band's repertoire. He studied music and composition while playing in tango groups, and went on for more formal training in Paris. Piazzola loved everything from the classical music of Rubenstein to the jazz of Gershwin. Although we think of Piazzola in terms of tango, many of his contemporary tango aficionados hated his music because it was nontraditional, evolutionary, and avant gard.

This book was of value to me because it increased my understanding not just of Piazzola, but also of the major twentieth century tango musicians and composers. It may not make me a better dancer, but the increase of knowledge added to my appreciation of the music not just of Piazzola, but also of Pablo Ziegler, Romulo Larrea, and Felix Leclerc. It was a fitting complement to "Tango!" a collaborative book by Simon Collier, Artemis Cooper, Maria Susana Azzi, and Richard Martin. You don't have to be a serious student of music to enjoy either book. It will add to your appreciation of tango.

Being a fan of this musical, I decided to purchase the sheet music as well. I have not regretted this decision. The songs included were some of the best ones (though it is so hard to choose the best ones from this musical!). I only wish there could have been room for the whole score!

I am 12 yrs old and take singing lessons, I thought at first my singing teacher was a total bore- until she got out this wonderful song book. I now have my own copy and and have sung Wick, Winters on the Wing and A Bit of Earth in concerts. I am happy to say all have one first prizes.

I love love love this musical, and this songbook is just a must have when you feel like belting all by yourself! I played Mary in this play five years ago, and to Dean from Houston, I know what you mean about those Shelleys! Why are they hanging out with dead people if they are alive? I'm glad someone else out there shares in my frustration! The Secret Garden is a very emotional musical. The lyrics are absolutely beautiful, and the music is just wonderful. i love it!
