Garcia lorca doe it again
Whether you have children or not Buy this book. If you have children read them the landscape poetry in here. They will sing them in their sleep. It will take them on magical journeys to happy places and you also.

this is the one to buy
I just started browsing through a book of his poems in spanish one day and loved them, but my spanish is marginal. This has the spanish poems side by side with english translations, many of which I don't really like because they do things like switch words and lines and take a little too much freedom and change the spirit of the poem, but that's okay. You can read the spanish, read the english, and see exactly what has been changed, but the beauty is in the spanish ones, and though his vocabulary is large, yours doesn't really have to be to appreciate the sound and sight of these poems in spanish. I love many of the sonnets, plus the king of harlem, which reminds me of HCE from Finnegans Wake, this character that becomes the landscape itself, "after walking", and many others from the poet in new york. I've just been getting into some spanish poets after reading some st john of the cross and seeing what types of flows and life can be infused into words in this language, and these dark, bloody grimy oozes of language have had me high for weeks.

Great, One of the best collections of Lorca's poems
Brilliant, emotions of positive and negative are tasted in this work

The Settlement Cook Book Treasured Recipes of Seven Decades
This is a great cook book!! It has everything for the beginner to the experienced cook. It has old recipes, canning recipes, canning time tables, tables of measurement even planning for dinner parties. My copy was printed in 1976 and I would not trade it for anything. I have been cooking for 30 years and every cook book I have purchased does not come close to this one.

It's a resource as well as a cookbook!!!!!!!!!
I have used this cookbook and worn the hard cover right off of it. As a resource book it is invalueable, it always has what's missing in other cookbooks such as substitutions, measurements, herb charts, cooking times and on and on. I have gone from meat-eater to vegetarian and this is still my favorite cook book. I am always being asked for the recipes I use from it. I would be lost without it.

Turn of the century kitchen wisdom in todays food processor.
This is not only good eating, but also good reading. Excellent blend of hardy, robust, old-fashioned dishes and simple receipes for todays demanding lifestyles. Receipies are cross indexed thoroughly. Catagories also cover freezing, canning, pickling, and health concerns.

You may never need to make a bar of soap, or pasteurize milk in your own kitchen, but you will gain an appreciation of todays modern conveniences.

To me, this book has reminiscent as well as nutritional value. You see...this is how I remember Grand-ma cooking. Can't you smell...snf,..snf...the fresh baked bread and potato soup cookin' on the old wood stove. Um..Um..!

The Settlement Cookbook
WOW! This is the best cookbook I have ever used! I have almost wore it out! The best pancake recipe is in this book! My family loves the waffle recipe! My Grandma gave my mom this cookbook, my mom gave me a copy of the cookbook & I hope to pass on the tradition to my girls.

Treasure
This is the best German/American cookbook ever. It is a pity the recent revised edition does not measure up, as it lack many of the basic recipes here. I could not live without a copy. I have two, one in my upstate New York residence (given to me by my mother 58 years ago when I was in college) and one here in my Florida winter home (given to me by my son-in-law just a few years ago when I complained that my copy was falling apart from overuse). Has the BEST recipe for Sauerbraten ever (yes, the gravy is thickened with gingersnaps), and all the kuchen and pastry items that made my mother's and grandmother's kitchens redolent. If you can find a copy give it to your lover or whoever cooks for you, or just keep it for youself as I do. Other cookbooks may be useful, but this one is essential, and the recipes are simple and foolproof.

The Settlement Cookbook
I used this cookbook as a child, when I cooked with my Mother and my Grandmother in the 1950s and 60s. It is a wonderful piece of American History, with recipes for things you might never have thought about. I reccomend this book to anyone who experiences the 'joy of cooking' and has a desire to keep American History alive and a part of the new century. A reprint or an edition from a used bookstore would be a treasured possession for any cook, a valuable gift.

INSPIRING YOUTH TO GET ACTIVE
I enjoyed Simon Makes Waves because he is adorable and he works hard to get to his goal of having his first surf board which is his dream. The book also shows safety and instructions from his parents. I enjoyed how the writer made family important as a team. My son reads this book everyday on our way to school, and we are nieghbors of the writter. My son is facinated with surfing and the character of Simon. Great ethics Jeff Lappin way to go!

Simon is Great
Simon is just like my son was at his age. Now I am reading it to my Grandson, who is just like Simon. Great book to read aloud and I like the instructional part. Good reading!

Sweet!!!
This is the most darling book! It is about a little kid who wants to be a surfer. The illustrations are wonderful and Simon is the cutest little beach boy you ever saw. It teaches responsiblity and has a nice interactive feature. I love the " Surf Dictionary at the end. You'll love it!!

Simon knows!
Bet you can't buy just one. This is the kind of book of which you buy several copies to give to your friends. Cat lovers will nod in agreement while reading--"Yes, that IS how they think." Simon's observations are wise--kids and teens will Get It--so parents and grandparents will love this book too. A quick read, and the drawings are wonderful.

Learning from Simon
Simon is an unusual cat. He acts like a cat, but he thinks like a human. Each one of the short episodes includes a true story about Sharpe's Siamese cat, Simon, plus a "moral to the story." I found the book enchanting and educatonal, and I have used some of the stories to help teach my high school students about things that really matter in this world.

Touching, Funny, Thought Provoking
Simon's adventures are great fun to read, but also make you think about how we live our everyday lives. Each story seems to have multiple meanings. I think Simon is trying to teach us to be better people. Great fun - I didn't want it to end!

A fun and effective way to build vocabulary for the SAT
We've all heard that practice makes perfect. And it's true -- except in the life of a student. For most students, anything even remotely resembling systematic practice seems to be automatically put into one category: BORING.

Simon's Saga for the SAT I Verbal uses storytelling to introduce SAT words to students without making it seem like a chore. It gives them a familiar context in which to understand the words, as well as exercises to later reinforce this comprehension. The author gives us an irresistible tongue-in-cheek take on college life and its 'infinite' possibilities, while at the same time slipping in issues and concepts that appear in SAT reading passages. To make sure the words really sink in, important SAT words are regularly repeated.

I don't know of any other prep guide that teaches students what they need to know in such a creative way. My students enjoy it, and I recommend it to any student looking for an interesting way to get ready for the SAT.

A great verbal booster
This book is a great way to increase your SAT verbal score. The book is divided in to 37 chapters. Each chapter is about 4 pages long and has around 20 vocab words that are in bold. At the end of every chapter is a list of the vocab words contained in the chapter. After that is a review consisting of fill-in-the-bank, matching, True/False, and mutiple choice questions involving the 20 vocab words. I found learning the words in context easier than memorizing word lists. The exercises also helped me remember more words. The story isn't half-bad either, until about three-quarters of the way in. Then it got a little boring, but overall I enjoyed using this book as a tool to improve my verbal score.

Wonderful!
It's fun! It is an entrancingly entertaining yet amazingly effective way to fix words inside your mind. Each episode is small enough for a novice reader like me to finish and is followed by reasonable exercises to inculcate new words.

Not just for advanced players
A "must-have" for every soccer coach.

Championship book
This book was a tremedous resource for our team this year. It made the difference in our set pieces and gave the players confidence in executing them. Everytime we were awarded a free kick or corner kick the players truly saw it as an opportunity to score - and very often we did. Easy to understand and useful diagrams.

Very usefull insights into soccers "set plays"
While soccer is primarily a dynamic sport with ever-changing positions and opportunities, there are moments that can be scripted - dead ball situations. "Soccer Restart Plays" describes in detail how any team can effectively take advantage of these golden moments and create excellent scoring opportunities. Clear diagrams of corner kick, direct and indirect kicks and throw-ins detail actions and responsibilities of key players. I have coached teams that scored twice in the final at the USA Cup on plays from this book! I high recommend it to any serious coach. Scott Lockwood

THIS STORY MADE ME CRY AS A CHILD
A little boy had a set of tin soldiers that were made from a melted spoon. One soldier was missing a leg because there was not enough metal left over from the melted spoon.

Tossed aside by the boy, the one-legged soldier sees a paper cut out figure of a ballerina. She is poised on one leg and he feels an instant bond. He has found another one-legged toy and believes this to be love.

The steadfast tin soldier has a series of mishaps. He falls off the window sill into a stream. From there, he is transported to a rat infested sewer. He is swallowed by a fish and through an unlikely stroke of luck, winds up back in the boy's playroom with the other toys and the ballerina.

The ending is what gets to me every single time. A gust of wind lifts the paper ballerina up and she flutters into the fire place, winding up a charred heap of ashes. Devastated, the tin soldier joins her. The remaining metal that was once the tin soldier is a charred piece of heart shaped metal.

I still think this is a very sad story. The photographs really emphasize the feeling this story evokes.

great book!
I taught 1st grade for 4 years and all of the teachers in my grade passed this book around at Christmas to read to our class. I cried everytime I read it. It has a wonderful message and my kids in my classroom always loved it! I have now (finally) purchased my own copy of this book to read to my little girl. It is a classic and I know she will love it as much as I do. Every home should have this book to read at Christmastime.

Brilliant! Improves on the original version.
This is a really good book. It has all the characteristic's that made the original a cherished and remembered fairy tale. It is a great gift for any young child, and can be enjoyed by adults too. It maintains the feel of the original tale, but is more like a poem. The art work on each page is beautiful, and the pictures are totally devine. I would recomend buying this for a different and fully enjoyable version of the original.

I never knew about TMJ
I have had headaches for several years and in the last two years they started getting worse...not to mention my traditional painkiller cocktail wasn't working anymore. I though it was migraines. My dentist gave me this book...then I understood the problem. Since he fixed my bite I have been headache free for over 9 months.

No More Pain Killers!
I have been suffering for headaches since I was 16. When I got my first serious head pain I left school and was taken to the hospital by a wonderful teacher. I was poked; MRI'd and measured for the next two days out of fear that I may have had a brain tumor. Fortunately I didn't have a brain tumor but unfortunately the pain didn't stop. According to many wonderful doctors I had "migraines" and "cluster headaches" of unknown origin.

For 15 years I single handedly kept Advil in business until I reached a point where I decided I no longer wanted to treat the symptoms and needed confront the problem. I figured, if we can map the entire Human Geno we should be able discover the root of my headaches.

Thanks to the internet I was able to pour my self into thousands of pages of materials on headaches to the point where I found myself teaching my doctor a thing or two. I learned about TMJ and figured why not? I am sure it can't do any more damage than 15 years of pain killers!

So I spent the money, read the book and then made my doctor read it. We were both further intrigued. I found a dentist in the area who could do "bite adjustments" and gave it a try. It has been 7 months and I would be lying if I told you I have taken Advil for anything other than PMS. Not to mention my doctor has even refered a few people to my desntist with great results.

A help book that actually helps
I have had headaches (I thought they were migraines ) for many years.
After a while, I stopped taking the medications because they did not help that much and I was fearful of getting used to the drugs.
When I read this book, I realized that my headaches/jaw aches/neckaches might mot be migraines after all.
I started on a new path and am hopeful that I can be rid of the pain forever.

Removes the intimidation of learning Hebrew
I first started reading this book via a Jewish study class and I found it quite comprehensive, while not insulting one's intelligence. The practice exercises help quite a bit, and they draw upon previous lessons so as to bring together everything learned up to a certain point. Please keep in mind that this book does not teach you how to translate modern Hebrew. It is good if you want to begin learning Hebrew, but don't expect to be able to order a falafel on the streets of Haifa after finishing this book. Essentially, this book provides the base for the house, but you'll need further reading to build on that house in terms of modern language translation. That having been said, I still highly recommend that one has this book if you're either beginning the study of Hebrew or are reacquainting yourself with it.

Clear and useful
I taught myself to read Hebrew in several weeks using this little book. The material is exceptionally well paced; each chapter introduces just the right amount of new material and reinforces previously learned letters. This is the best book I've found for adults who want to learn Hebrew.

Teach yourself to read Hebrew
You can either get this book by itself or with several cassette tapes. Someone loaned it to me to begin my Hebrew studies, and I have to have my own copy now. Small doses of the aleph bet, with special attention paid to look-alikes and sound-alikes.
