Nelson's New Christian Distionary
I'm in an inductive study the "Gospel of Mark". I couldn't find a definition for Pharisees and Sadducees. I was really disapointed since these were the first two words I looked up and could not find. I will continue to look through the dictionary, and comment further. I hope all readers note what is missing so that this work can be revised at a later time by the author.

I found it!
After looking through several of the standard dictionaries - both unabridged and abridged - there were words that I needed to define, but couldn't. I turned to some internet sources but still could not find definitions for these words. Finally! I found the definitions in this dictionary! Praises!

Great
I used this book for my single-variable integral calculus course and I must say it did an excellent job of teaching what the instructor couldn't. The problem sets are good, and if the solutions manual wasn't riddled with errors, the combination would be outstanding.

review of the "ADHD Rating Scale-IV" by George Dupaul, ed.
A very useful book for pediatricians and other health care professionals taking care of children. If you buy the book, you can use the forms in your practice.

Good.
Multivariable calculus can be a difficult subject, but this book provides a sound basis for the understanding thereof. Diagrams are especially good. Unfortunately, the text needs more explanation of problems. Generally good, though.

Thoughtful behavioural perspective of e-commerce phenomenon!
This text fills a key gap in our understanding of electronic commerce. Many books on the subject are simply opportunistic - authors promising to deliver knowledge (for example, becoming rich through e-commerce or advice on building a state-of-the-art website) they don't actually seem to possess, and most of these are badly written. Other books are essentially war stories - although often useful for understanding the past, they don't cast much light on the future. A few authors, with a gift for synthesis, offer strategic prescriptions that seem to make sense, and are eminently readable. Very few of this group of authors actually conduct the research they write about, even fewer take a behavioural perspective.

If we think about understanding e-commerce, we soon realise that we have to examine the intersections among technology, economics, and behaviour. While there is no shortage of texts on the enabling technology, it changes so rapidly that any available textbook is likely to be obsolete. Several texts have recently been published that focus on the economics of networks, so that gap seems to be filled. That leaves us with online behaviour, an important niche that this book explores in an interesting way.

Strengths? After a mercifully brief introduction to technology, the text alternates between a demand and supply perspective - Chapter 3 (Web strategy: attracting and retaining visitors) leads us to an examination of the use of web technology to support marketing (Chapter 4), promotion and purchasing (5), and distribution (6). Service quality and pricing are briefly addressed (Chapters 7 and 8), and the book ends with a snappy little review of postmodernism in the context of e-commerce.

Weaknesses? The text is not likely to interest the wirehead audience, even though they really would benefit the most from a change in perspective. The legal issues are left to others, an unfortunate omission from both the business and social science perspective. It is very suitable as the main text for an undergraduate e-commerce survey course, and as a supplementary text for courses in social science, business, Communications, and Law.

PLENTY of Information Here
Anyone who picks up this book will immediately recognize that Dr. Van Hoose honestly loves guitars. He also picked one of the most finely crafted guitars as his instrument of choice. In page after page, in sometimes excruciating detail, he labors over the most miniscule differences in these guitars, as they evolved from year to year. Just when you think you've seen enough, there's a photo section on the guitar restoration process (of course, the guitar happens to be a Super 400, but believe it or not, the process would be pretty much the same for a more pedestrian arch top guitar). The reader is treated to plenty of fine color photographs, as well as loads of black and white photos and catalog page reproductions. Also included is a bounteous appendix, with shipping totals and the like, as well as Dr. Van Hoose's own analytical contributions (including his ingenious rarity index, derived from comparing an individual model's production to the entire production for every year of Super 400 production) and opinions regarding the "vintage" guitar market.

In short, this book gives the reader the best and worst faces of modern stringed instrument (banjo and guitar) collecting. On one hand, you have an educated and articulate individual who has an obvious appreciation for finely crafted instruments. To Dr. Van Hoose's credit, he did his homework and clearly wrote the information that he had gathered (unlike some other collector/writers). On the other hand, this book, to some degree, reinforces the popular opinion that acquisition equals expertise. Collectors such as Akiro Tsumura (with his "1001 Banjos" book) or Scott Chinery (who had the brainstorm and funds to commission a fleet of blue guitars from the world's top builders, to add to his already huge collection) are regarded as experts, whether they can play a note, dress a fret, conduct research, or do anything else that would be considered expertise when writing about musical instruments. Coincidentally, this view seems to be held in high regard by top instrument dealers (such as George Gruhn, who wrote the forword for this book). It turns out to be a mutually beneficial arrangement, to be sure.

If you obsess over guitars, this is a good book for you. Believe me, a lot of work went into it. The book is loaded with plenty of information and a good helping of pictures, and it IS the be-all-end-all for this particular subject. If you don't obsess over guitars, this book will get old pretty fast. I really DO appreciate the effort that was put into this work, but I think it just ends up being a little too much for anybody but the most die-hard fans.

Fairly good
Fairly good

The author first talks about the foundation of efficieny, scalability, parallelism..... etc.

Second part is the discussion of multithreading. The problems like race conditions, mutual exclusion, thread monitors, parallelizing loops and synchronization are discussed in great detail.

Some algorithms for increasing efficiency and performance diagrams are provided throughout the book to give reader a clear view in understanding the topics.

The last part is about network programming which talk about socket and simple messaging architecture.

The strength of this book over the other java performance tuning book is that it integrates some algorithms into the code(major factor) to increase performance rather than just talks about in preventing the use of certain low performance java code(minor factor).

However, the book seems losing the way in targeting audience. The content of the book doesn't specific to any field.

Summary of the Japanese American Experience
This book is one of the few that actually tries to tackle the long story of struggle and assimilation by Japanese Americans into American society. It starts off with an intro by George Takei and then dives into the history of emigration, era of laborers in Calif and Hawaii, settlement by families, the concentration camp experience, and the post war assimilation. The best part of the book is the numerous pictures and quotes from books/newspapers from famous figures in Japanese American lore: Yoshiko Uchida, Daniel Inouye, Isamu Noguchi, Ellison Onizuka, etc.. For somebody looking for easy reading material (without the philosophical discussion of racism that you may find in Takaki's books), I recommend it highly.

Help found in prayer ...
I found this book looking for a personal way to participate in the Roman Catholic Liturgy begun with attendance of the Sunday's Eucharist. It is a condensed easily accessed Office similarily patterned to that found in "The Book of Common Praayer" though identified as being in the Catholic tradition.

It's Office is organized around a seven day calendar, including both morning and evening prayer and a common night prayer, with additions for special times of the church year, ie. Advent, Easter, Lent, Pentecost. This Office is ordered in such a way that it could easily be used in a communal setting. Also it contains prayers for times of special need from authors such as Thomas Merton and Lucien Deiss.

This is not a how-to-book but fills the need for those of us who are looking for a companion along the journey of private prayer.

Excellent instructional reference
Loud and Clear is an outstanding resource for producing an effective presentation. The emphasis on audience analysis, which is so often overlooked, is excellent and will lead you to focus on the things that matter for your presentation. I especially liked the exercises suggested by the authors. Do them; you will learn more about your style of communication and your ability to connect with audiences than you had ever imagined. This book is probably most effective for newer presenters who need a foundation in the building blocks of assembling an effective presentation. But, it will also be instructional and valuable to check the effectiveness of more experienced presenters. Overall Loud and Clear is a concise, well-written recipe for effective presentations
