The Colorful West
More Cowboy Movie Posters is a fabulous art book and truly invaluable, offering the highest quality images from good and bad westerns. As someone who collects western posters, I have used this book as an important aid to purchasing posters illustrated within. Without such a quality reference I would have needed to peruse a stack of catalogs to find the same amount of images. For the non collector movie buff, the book is equally a delight and tremendous value at the low price.

Superb, Extraordinary Detail On Every Level!
This review can easily apply to any of the books in the Bruce Hershenson edited series of film poster history. Hershenson rightly treats film graphics not just as pop culture artifacts but true works of art. His books are filled with a curator's eye for superior choice and reproduction, each poster in striking color and with a clarity of printing that rivals most any coffee table art book. Somewhere between advertising and illustration, film posters, like book jackets and record covers, inhabit that imaginative and atmospheric zone where one art reflects another. It's not just the history of film or the history of film design, it's a history of twentieth century Saturday afternoons and Saturday nights. How often we would go into the dark theatre armed only with the ideas and ideals of the posters outside, and then return to them afterward, perhaps with nodding affirmation or smirking disillusionment, but still a vision of what could be. This series of books should be subtitiled: THE FINE ART OF ANTICIPATION,for no matter if expectation was filled or emptied by the films behind them, their posters kept on shining.

A beautiful treasure-trove of movie memories.
All the great heroes of Hollywood westerns are represented in a book that's a delight to flip through. It's packed with the colorful, dramatic, enticing art that made movie posters even more appealing than the movies, themselves.

Wraith: The Great War (Vampire, the Dark Ages)

The Great Book
Although writen in a completely different mood compared to it's precursor, Wraith: The Oblivion, The Great War offers you the possibility of playing in one of the bloodiest scenarios of all times: World War I, the "War to end all wars".

As the afterword states, the 1st World War is usually seen as "just the prelude to World War II; the *good* war". It's a great injustice: World War I saw the first trully global bloodshed of all times, as countries in a decaying Europe fought for supremacy. The aftermath was really depressing, and a perfect theme for Wraith.

It's also worthy of notice the treatment White Wolf gives to this delicate theme. The War isn't presented as "fun". The War was a terrible event in history, and White Wolf gives it the respect it deserves.

Its a great supplement for DMings in the world war 1 era.
I Loved it! I thought it was a fantastic book! It had alot of the current politics. Including a Coup by a one of the legions commanders. Its great book with alot of plots to gleam from. I'm DMing/Storytelling currently in a World War One setting and I couldn't have done that well without it! Its a must have........trust me!

Great setting and well written
I bought this for setting information and ended up liking the Wraith setting so much that I also got the main Wriath book. Great setting for any Stortyteller and it have good artwork also.

Hooooo Ha!!!!!!!!!!!
What a book! All the poster/lobby card compilations by Hershenson and Allen are great, particularly Volume 10, Serial Movie Posters, which I suspect is their best seller to date, soon to be topped by this one.

We can argue about the "B Movie" in the title, since many of the posters and lobby cards shown are for exploitation, road show, and drive-in films, and there are some A features to be found in these pages as well. But that's a quibble.

What images! These were intended to get the farmers off their wagons and into the theatre, and they do serve that purpose. Have a gander at the incredible poster for I LOVE TROUBLE (39), a masterpiece in several senses of the word and from many points of view. The poster for TOMCATS (237) exhibits a very poor understanding of human anatomy but it would cause any healthy male of any age to fumble unconsciously in the general direction of the fly of his trousers. A number of posters and lobby cards feature the immortal Mamie Van Doren, protruding further than seems humanly possible (100, for instance) and Jayne Mansfield (for example 112) is no slouch along those lines herself.

I'd love to have seen a poster for BOP GIRL GOES CALYPSO starring Judy Tyler, but one can't have everything! Highest possible recommendation, and keep those hands away from that fly.

Outstanding film poster book
This volume from the series of books from Bruce is fantastic. The beatifull artistic designs of the posters contained in this volume are true classic examples of the fond memories I have from my youth when drive-ins were at the peak of popularity. Although the films were Ed Wood grade z type shlock fare the posters promoting them were class a in artistic design. The general rule of thumbs used by us frequenting the weekly drive-ins was the more outragius off the wall display on those posters(usualy a scanty cladd female and verball quotation to entice the movie going individuals) the most likely the film is a real turkey. Many of us loved making the weekly treck to the driv-ins just to see if the latest presentation could topple the king Plan 9 From Outer Space in realy bad filmmaking. The color posters contained in this volume all are examples of classic poster designing that sadly is lacking in "bland" fare that has been created for film posters from the late 80's to the present day.I highly recomend this gem of a book to any lover of film posters, the price for it is "dirt cheap pocket change" considering the outstanding content it has.A truely unique one of a kind book that I long have searched for and untill now, was never available.

CHAPLIN,LLOYD and KEATON.Teams like LAUREL AND HARDY and ABBOTT AND COSTELLO.GARY COOPER in A CAPRA movie and even ERROL FLYNN In one of his rare comedys.Bruce doesnt foget that we also have great comedians of today and covers all the way to JIM CAREY. If you love comedies buy this book and you cant go wrong

Another excellent book
Yet again, Bruce has excelled in his great colour reproductions of the movie posters. I collect only comedy posters, so I find this book additonally helpful and informative. Answering questions and clarifying others. I am amazed at the detail and research spent in reproducing a book of such quality. If you enjoy collecting movie posters or at least reading Bruce's books you will find this one as informative as the rest.

Life-and-death struggles in direct and simple language
The latest addition to the outstanding Scholarly Resources "The American Crisis Series", historian and civil war expert Richard Bruce Winders' Crisis In The Southwest: The United States, Mexico, And The Struggle Over Texas is a thoroughly "reader friendly" historical study clearly laying out facts, battles, and the profound impact the conflicts had upon history of Mexico, the European powers of the day, and the emergence of the Republic of Texas, eventually culminating in the role Texas was to play in shaping the events that were to ultimately result in the American Civil War. Black-and-white maps and illustrations enhance the carefully researched text, which presents life-and-death struggles in direct and simple language accessible for readers of all backgrounds.

Covers both ideologies and underlying roots of conflict
Readers of American history in general and Southwest events in particular will find Crisis In The Southwest, a survey of the US/Mexican struggle over Texas, to be clear and well done. The logic and events of the Mexican War and Texas Revolution come clear with a story which covers both ideologies and underlying roots of conflict.

The book which will teach you from a to Z
Throughout many books available for PowerBuilder today this one is more deeply and carefully covers all the details you will need from day to day operations. I've red over dozens of books and I think that this one the only one that is not tells you where to click, but teaches you how to build an application and logical design. I do hope that authors of the book (B. Smith and G. Schaad) will issue a newer version that will cover features implemented with PB 6.x and PB 7

Exemplary treatment of a difficult subject
This is by far the easiest-to-read and -understand book I have read on PowerBuilder. It is very well edited also, with no grammatical or spelling errors that I could discern. This is a far better book on PowerBuilder than I have read by any other author. Bravo!

YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE EINSTEIN...
At last! A book on relativity that the layman can understand with absolute clarity.

Authors Bruce Bassett et al deserve a literary medal for making such a rich topic so easy to digest.

They write with the consummate ease of travel writers.
Destination: space-time.
Mode of transport: Einstein's mind.

It's a complex task making relativity simple.
I'm really grateful someone finally did it!

A great first step to Einstein's relativity
Wow! This is an awesome little book. I love the "Introducing" series but sometimes I find their work a little too basic. Not this time. This is a graphic highway into the mind of Einstein - the 4th dimension, curved space and time...its all here but without the maths...just the ideas. The middle is the hardest, while the last third of the book covers current cosmology and all the latest advances in our understanding of the universe.

U.S. Army in Mexico
To call Mr. Polk's Army the best, most authorative book on the Mexican War would not be a long shot. It is a revolutionary book, with a great deal of firsthand sources and reminiscences not used previously. I have the privilege of working with several professors and historians who are experts on the subject, and they all tend to agree with me. Dr. Winders, the curator of the Alamo, blends social history and military history, with a dose of political history, to tell the story of the 1846-1848 U.S. Army, regulars and volunteers, officers and enlisted men. While it is meticulously researched, it is also entertaining, and not over the head of the general reader. I, and many other more qualified readers, would recommend this as the work to read on the U.S. Army in Mexico.

Drawn from a vast amalgamation of diaries & journals
Historian Richard Winder's Polk's Army is a closely detailed, meticulously researched, scholarly and engaging presentation of the daily life of American soldiers who fought in the Mexican War, drawn from a vast amalgamation of diaries, journals, and reminiscences. Polk's Army goes further to connect the army to the society from which it was drawn, and portrays a military undertaking that was a unilaterally shared experience for all ranks and walks of American soldiers, despite their differences in background or politics. Illustrated with some black-and-white historical photographs and drawings, Polk's Army is a superb, in-depth reference for anyone with a vested interest in learning more about a war that forever changed the physical shape and political future of the United States of America.

Partners or Competitors?

Authors: Richard H. Steinberg, Bruce Stokes, Berkeley Roundtable on the International Economy, and Council on Foreign Relations

Brilliant and Deep Exploration of the Subject
In deft strokes, "Partners or Competitors" sets the stage with both Europe and America vying with each for a piece of the trade prize which is Asia. Although there is a history of competition between the U.S. and the EU, the economic downturn in Asia made both aware that they were in the same boat, in that both were going to suffer substantial losses due to debt that is unlikely to be repaid.

The competitive systems of the EU and the U.S. are similar, which creates a concomitant desire for similar outcomes in trade negotiations with Asian countries. The mutual interests between the EU and the U.S., especially in light of an Asian economic downturn, would seem to compel cooperation on trade issues and, perhaps, shared economic pressure on Asia to comply. However, there are enormous barriers to cooperation--some of which are inherent in the structure of the trade organizations currently used to negotiate international trade agreements.

The editors have put together an impressive array of contributors who, together, have written a careful exploration of the prospects for Asian trade liberalization along with the barriers to U.S./EU cooperation. Some of it is descriptive, some of it is prescriptive, all of it is brilliant.

This book is an absolute must for anyone interested in international trade negotiations, European/U.S. cooperation to affect trade policy, and the application of political power to open foreign markets.

Bravo.

Absolutely Brilliant!
This is now require reading for all of my students
