This book rocks!
I first read this book in elementary school, in 2nd grade. Since then, I've always made sure to read it at least once a year. It's almost become a tradition! I LOVE Roald Dahl's books, and I incorporate him in my life. For my speech team, I performed a poem from "Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator" and won 2nd place! I think every child should read this book at least once in their lifetime.

I love this book! I read it over and over!
I read this book so many times in third grade that I knew it by heart! I love the way that Mr. Dahl "alerts" you to the danger of witches. After I read the book for the first time, I began to watch people for signs of being a witch, including my teacher. THIS BOOK SHOULD BE IN EVERY LIBRARY! It doesn't scare little kids because it has a happy ending, though open ended. I think I even enjoyed being scared. I went on to read the rest of Mr. Dahl's books. I'd give this one two thumb up

More than a cook book.
I'm a huge fan of Roald Dahl's books for children. Have read most of them over and over again for my own kids. It was a joy though to find a book about Roald Dahl and his family and life, seen through his kitchen. And the many parties he always gave.

Roald Dahl loved food, and in his middle class home in England he loved to gather family and friends around the huge dining room table. On the table there is always delicious food from around the world, also from Norway - the home country of Dahl's mother, the home country of myself.

The book is a perfect mixture of anecdotes from Roald Dahl's life and recipes from his kitchen, and all through it is filled with pictures and photos, both to illustrate the cooking and to illustrate the house and the kitchen. The book also has illustrations by Quentin Blake, the illustrator who has worked with Dahl on so many of his books. For me his drawings are perfectly "Dahlish".

The recipes are all simple though quite chick :-) And following them you will have ideas for an uncountable numbers of parties ahead of you.

memories with food at gipsy house
Beautifully illustrated and full of interesting stories, recipies and photographs, this book is perfect for reading on a cold or rainy day. Set in Gipsy House, the Dahl family home in England, the book lets you glimpse upper middle class life in that country. It's honesty makes it all the more enjoyable. The recipies are simple, yet interesting. They tempt you to experiment as they are very straight forward. This well written book is ideal for reading time and time again. It is full of SUNSHINE.

Well worth the wait!
I read this book ten years ago on a trip to Spain (it was the only english book I could find at the place where I was staying). I forgot to write down the author or the title before leaving, and it killed me when I got home and I remembered all these wonderful stories almost word for word, but couldn't for the life of me find the book.

Well, after ten years of casually searching I finaly decided to buckle down, do some hard research (should say something about the book that it stayed in my head for ten years), and I ended up finding it. Who would've thought, classic children's story author Roald Dahl was capable of writing such twisted, engaging stories as those contained in "Someone Like You?"

Anyway... I love it, and I'm so glad I finally have it. Hopefully you'll enjoy it too!

Stories with a twist
Roald Dahl is a Norwegian national who has lived for many years in England and written extensively in English. Over the years he has published a number of collections of short stories, a genre in which he excels. His stories are not always macabre, but they invariably have a twist, making them unforgettable many years later.

Some of them, it is true, may have you writhing slightly, but even so, you will appreciate the intention, as well as the finesse. There are so many good writers around, it's hard to get to them all, but it's worth finding "Someone Like You" for a number of reasons. First of all, you might like Dahl, in which case you'll be set for quite a while (as long as you can find his books). Secondly, he is a technical wizard (in one of his stories, concerning a wordsmith, he discusses some of the aspects of the very wizardry he practices) and you should have a look at that side of him. He should not be out of print - he deserves better. There's no doubt in my mind that we'll be reading Dahl for many years to come, if we've got any sense.

Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator
I think this book was flawless. It had an extreme amount of appeal when I started reading it and even more so when I finished. I could not find one critisism to make. I think it is magnificent and I think Roald Dahl should be congratulated for this masterwork.

Great fun in a cookbook
These recipes are presented in classic Roald Dahl style. Each recipe takes its name from Dahl's books such as Wonka's Whipple-Scrumptious Fudgemallow Delight and Spitsizzlers. Quentin Blake, who illustrated many of Dahl's books also lends a hand to this collection so the reader truly relates to the material as if these were the recipes that Dahl spoke of in his books. Also, each recipe starts out with a quote from the book that served as that recipe's namesake. The author is careful to note that several of these recipes require an adult's supervision as they are listed as part of the ingredients in those recipes that use heat. This will be a clever addition to the cookbook collection that may even inspire the reader to look into Dahl's books serving as the inspiration for these recipes.

Wonderful!
This book was great from start to finish. I loved the way romance was mixed with horror, and it made for a great ending! I would definitely recommend this book to any adolescent who likes to be a little scared.

One of the best!
I was in the library looking for an autobiography and I made a short trip to the "young adult mystery section" and I happened to come across this book. So I checked it out. This book was really good. It was well written and well described that it was so easy to get a picture in your mind. It had a really nice ending to it. I couldn't believe who the killer was at the end.

Doggone good
Totally rad. The killer was someone who never even crossed my mind. Great plot, great suspense, great characters, all in all a great read.

A fun, silly book that children and adults would love
My cousin bought me this book when I was about six and I still love it (I'm 17 now). My whole family thinks it's a hilarious book and we have given it to many of our friends for presents.

George's Marvellous Medicine
Would you like to drink some medicine with some shoe shine or bubble bath soap? If not you wouldn't want to be a mean grandmother or George. He made this medicine for his grandmother because she keeps on yelling at him. he decides to play a trick and makes this strange stuff that he gives to her. It doesn't do harm but makes it funny. I like this book because it is fun to read. It's funny when he puts the medicine in a big pot. I would recommend this book to a ten through thirteen year old.
