I loved Mrs. Jeppers batty vacation!!!
I liked the book because it was a hair raising story. It was the best book I have read out of the super specials. I liked when the kids were on the plane to Transylvania because the kids thought Mrs. Jeppers was a vampire and she was going to suck their blood until they were nothing but skin and bones. I also liked when they were in Transylvainia and they saw a secret passage that went to Melody and Liza's room. Melody and Liza started hitting Eddie and Howie on the head with pillows. That was funny I liked the book alot!!!

This was my favorite Bailey School book so far.
My name is Leigh and I liked the part when they met Uncle Boris, and Mrs. Jeepers said, "The only time when you have to beware of Uncle Boris is when he's hungry." And they all got scared because they thought he was going to bite them on the neck.

Very funny, just right for 2nd through 4th graders.
I read this book to a third grade class. The kids and the teacher loved it. The humor was great.

The story begins when Jason discovers a wart on his hand "the size of Mongolia." After a funny exchange about how awful it is, his Mother promises to buy medicine to take it away. Feeling sorry for him she gives it a kiss.

The next day, Jason discovers that his Mom is missing. His sister, after seeing his wart, had just told him that "If you touch a wart, you turn into a frog." Jason is convinced that his Mother is a frog that he finds on the kitchen floor, next to his Mothers purse.

fun, but not the best of the series
In book #14 of the Bailey School Kids series, the gang goes back again to Camp Lone Wolf (you know, the one where the counselor may be a werewolf!). There they meet the bagpipe playing, wetsuit wearing, Scottish brogue speaking Nessie, the camp swimming teacher. There's something odd about her, and very odd about the shapes that seem to be surfacing in the lake late at night. Is it possible there's a monster in there?

"Monsters Don't..." is a cute, quickly moving book in this series, but it not one of the best books. It's confusing at a lot of points because the reader isn't sure if there's a separate monster from Loch Ness in the lake, or if the camp swim teacher is a monster herself. While this may seem to add to the mystery of the series and infuse it with that characteristic weird-creepiness seen in other books in the series, here in "Monsters Don't..." it just winds up being confusing. The ending is a bit weak, leaving readers wondering why the book ended when they finish the last page and the character of Nessie isn't very strong or well sketched out. If you're a diehard fan of the series, then by all means read it! However, if you're just picking up a few here and there, you may want to think about skipping this one.

Is there a Monster in Lake Erin?
I thought this book was good for first through third grade.I thought it was a really good book because the Bailey School kids think there is a monster in Lake Erin.I would recommend this book to first threw third grader because it is a short book with very big print. I thought when Eddie saw a tiny fish and thought it was a shark it was very funny. My favorite character was Eddie.Eddie is a redheaded boy who cracks me up.One reason I liked Eddie is that he likes to argue with the teacher.Eddie also hates school and reading.

You'll love this book !
I gave this book five stars because it was a great mystery. It
had a thrill about finding out if their scuba teacher is a lake monster. They eventually find out that she is a monster
but it brings in an adventure and mystery to find out.The book
brings in some beliefs and realistic things about monsters.

Same old same old
One earlier reviewer wrote that according to the author Albert Nolan, Jesus was only concerned about preaching repentance to the Jews, and if they refused, they would be destroyed. That makes it sound as though Jesus was awfully coercive. In fact, Jesus sounds kind of like the Mafia: giving the Jews "an offer they can't refuse." ("You gotta accept me as your Messiah and do as I say or be forever damned!!") Another reviewer wrote glowingly of this book that "anyone who reads it and denies the truth in it is just fooling themselves." That sounds pretty absolutist and heavy-handed as well.

In fact, the coercive tone of both these reviewers reflects the coercive tone of the book itself: Nolan doesn't present any actual historical data or facts independent of the Bible. He simply takes the Gospel stories as they are written and then interprets them in the light of his own political agenda, i.e. "liberation theology." This book is only one man's interpretation of Jesus. It is not the "absolute truth," as some reviewers appear to claim. If Jesus were a Martin Luther King Jr or another Gandhi, why don't we worship these other men as God too?

Writer Nolan also eagerly continues the seemingly never-ending tradition of blaming the Jews for the death of Jesus, arguing that Judaism is a stale old system that needs to be rebelled against and replaced with a "new, improved" version (namely his, of course). All I can say is: thank God (literally!!) for the fact that so many Catholics and other Christians today have gotten beyond that old blind and ignorant hatred.

One of the most important books ever written
Albert Nolan clarifies Christianity as it has needed clarification for centuries.
When "Christianity" became a religion, it lost its connection to Jesus.
Albert Nolan gives Jesus back to us; a Jesus we can identify with.
Reading this book saved me from leaving the ministry.
P.D.

The closest to the truth about Jesus I've read!
Mr. Nolan has done a painstaking job reseaching the time period and the gospels. He has shown that Jesus was a man who stood up against the system and met the same fate as our modern day examples (Dr. Martin Luther King and Ghandi).

Anyone who reads this book and says they deny the truth in it is fooling themselves.

I would not be surprised if Mr. Nolan had not been killed for this book!

which witch is which??
In the 10th book in the Bailey School Kids series, the usual gang is on it's way down to the new gym to take gymnastics. Funny thing, though, it's totally black, spiders spin webs all over the place, there's a black cat, a broom that seems to move by itself, and the instructor keeps saying all these strange rhymes, like she's casting a spell or something... She couldn't be a witch, could she??

The Bailey School Kids series is a fast-paced one full of wisecracking 3rd graders who find themselves investigating some of the strangest people in their town (the titles like "Vampires Don't Wear Polka Dots" should clue you in!!). This time, their odd gym instructor says these weird rhymes that seem to somehow come true: a girl who couldn't tumble or do a cartwheel to save her life suddenly is a pro at them. A broom seems to move by itself and there's this giant gingerbread house in the kitchen of the gym... Hmmm... how mysterious!!

Kudos go to the authors for avoiding the stereotypical green-faced, pointed hat witch of the movies and old children's stories. To do so would be insulting to REAL witches and would only make the story goofballish, not the creepy what's-going-on sort of book it is.

Most adults can make their way through a Bailey School Kids book in half an hour or less. Because their so short and fast paced, they're easy books for beginning-to-intermediate readers to sink their teeth into... Metaphorically speaking, of course!!

It's a great book, please read it !!!
My personal opinion of the book is that it's a very entertaining book, funny, mysterious, and fun to read because it keeps you wanting to know what is going to happen next. I gave this book five stars because it is a very good book. I hope you like it!!!

Whitches Don't do backflips
This book is about 4 kids who just started gymnastics, but could the gym teacher realy be a whitch. These kids are going to find out. I think this is a wonderful book beacuse it leaves you in suspense as the kids try to figerout the strange things happening in the so called witches house.

A very good herb gardening book, better for large spaces...
+AH4-More of a 3.5, but I'll round up :-) This is one of the first herb gardening books I got. Because I am not gardening in a large space, like a raised bed or half my backyard, many of the directions and much of the information was sort of overwhelming, at least for right now. I do mostly container herb gardening and in flower boxes and barrels, so there wasn't much info specifically geared for these types in this book, but cut down the organic gardening, soil preperation, pest control,+AH4-+AH4- sowing, watering, and composting info into small-scale size and it's great.

However, the info on the herbs specifically, which ones work for what climate zones and how to cultivate, dry and use them is wonderful and all but makes up for the focus on larger-scale gardens. The info on more than 50 common herbs is invaluable, especially the chart that details each one individually with all the necessary info you need at a glance, name, growth form and size, climate, soil condition,+AH4-+AH4- propagation, pests, and primary uses. It is a good supplemental to the other gardening books I have. I use the herb chart and specific herb info in the back of the book a lot, the instructions on how to harvest and dry the herbs, and the culinary and craft ideas, such as how to make herbal vinegar, dressings, spreads, teas, dyes, potpourri, soap, oils, and more.

It is a very good book for a beginning herbal gardener, especially one interested in raising them organically and wanting to+AH4-+AH4- know the many things you can do with herbs once you've grown them! I would just hasten to add that this book would be best in conjunction with a book on container or patio gardening or something in a smaller scale if that is your main goal, otherwise for larger-scale backyard herb gardening from the ground up, it's perfect.+AH4-

Do Ghosts Eat Potato Chips?
This book is about a boy named Eddie and his friends Howie, Lisa

and Melody who have to help take care of his great aunt

Malthida. They do not want to do it because they think she is

mean. She is sick and Eddie's Grandma wants him to help her out.

The first day they got to her house they bring her some food

to eat that Eddie's Grandma had made for her. On that day that

they went, Howie who likes to eat potato chips saw a ghost in

the window of Aunt Mathilda's house. Eddie told his friend that

there is no such thing as ghosts.

The next day all the kids went back to Aunt Mathilda's house

to bring her some more lunch to eat. It was cold so they had to

warm it up for her. While lunch was heating up Aunt Mathilda and

the kids played poker. She played really good. They played to

long that lunch burned. Since lunch had burned they got her some

fast food for lunch. Some potato chips came with her lunch and

while they sat at the table eating and talking the potato chips

disappeared. When they got back to her house they gave her the

lunch and she said she liked it. While the kids were there she

got sick and had to go to the hospital.

While Aunt Mathilda was in the hospital the kids went to the

house to prove that there is no such thing as ghosts. The

electricity went out because of a storm so they couldn't see

very well in the attic. They saw a big trunk that looked like a

coffin. The kids all opened it at the same time and found Uncle

Jasper's hat and what else do you think they found? You will

have to read this book to find out what they find.

I really did like this book because I like Bailey School Kids

books.

Booo!! (crunch, crunch...)
Unusual occurrences are becoming...well, *usual* in and around Bailey School. The third grade has a vampire for a teacher. A werewolf is the local camp counselor, and even Santa Claus has put in an appearance as the elementary school's custodian. So, should it really be ALL that odd to find a potato chip-munching ghost at Aunt Matilda's house??

Eddie & the gang are back in this, the 5th installment of the Bailey School Kids series. This time Eddie's old Aunt Matilda is at home sick and Eddie's mom has sent him over to tend to her. In addition to being a very grumpy, demanding old woman, her house appears to be haunted! Weird noises come from the creaky old attic, food left lying out is mysteriously eaten though no one is around, Aunt M. herself talks to her dead husband, potato chips fall to the ground and spell out mysterious words... Just what IS going on around here?? IS there a ghost in the attic??

Unlike the other Bailey School Kids books where the supernatural creature has a main role (vampire as teacher, leprechaun as basketball coach, etc), the ghost is not one of the main characters and seems to occupy the fringe of the story. This adds a note of realism to this series and makes it much more like a traditional ghost story (that is, creepy!). While not as outright scary as other books in the intermediate horror/spooky genre, "Ghosts Don't..." is a departure from the more-amusing-than-scary books preceding this one. I still wouldn't classify it as "horror" fiction, because while it does get creepy sometimes, it's hardly horrifying.

It's an easy read and catchy series. As an adult, I can finish off a Bailey School Kids book in about 20 minutes and have found myself working my way steadily through the series (reviewing most along the way). They're fun and quick, and hence even children and students who don't usually read find themselves easily reading them cover-to-cover.

Ho Ho Ho!!
In this, the 3rd Bailey School Kids series, a new janitor has come in to replace the regular custodian who has just quit after finding the school banister covered in peanut butter. A mysterious, bearded, pipe-smoking gent by the name of Mr. Jolly steps in to take over.

Mr. Jolly bears a striking resemblance to Santa Claus, and he's forever watching the 3rd grade gang and taking notes in a small red notebook. He also keeps turning down the thermostat to meat locker temperatures and shows an amazing ability to clean up the most horrible messes within moments... Magic, perhaps??

This book is much less frightening than the first two books which involved more supernatural creatures and creepy goings-on. For young readers who may get spooked all too easily, but who like a good mystery (IS Mr. Jolly REALLY Santa??), this would be a good choice. Children who are LOOKING for that spooky, creepy sort of plot line (a few steps lower on the scariness scale than the Goosebumps series) may be disappointed with this installment. Still, it is a fast-paced, short book, so it is a good choice for emergent readers.

3 Stars from Mom, 5 Stars from the Reader
It must be the generation gap setting in - I don't much like this series, but my 8 year old has just about eaten up the series. I like books with more of a plot, and a little bit deeper - but everyone needs a good 'escape' read every so often.

On the bright side, these are a short read for kids. There is no violence, although it seems pretty clear that their teacher is a vampire since she comes from Transylvania and talks with an accent.

The other up side is that if we read these together (which we like to do), we can each try out the Transylvanian accent.

If you need books to read by yourself (for those under 10), I'd say go for these. Parents can rest assured that these books are a nice adventure for the kids.

I thought it was cool!
The funny part of the story is when Eddie stuffed toilet paperin his t-shirt because he said look i'm a jiggly santa.

What's up with the hair?
What's up with the hair? That's Melody's question when she first meets Miss Kidwell. Miss Kidwell has come to Bailey School and is causing total chaos. First the lights, then the school bell. What next, the FATS building? After Miss Kidwell has caused Eddie's plane to attack, Melody's watch to stop working and the school bus horn to play the tune Rain, Rain, Go Away , the four friends must stop Miss Kidwell from distroying the town of Bailey. But how? Their fearless nerve keeps the friends from giving up on eliminating the Gremlin. Dadey and Thornton team up to once again provide us with another zainy title in their collection of Bailey School Kids books. The series helps to motivate some chlidren to pick up a book by captivating them with the idea that maybe the folks in the school office, the janitor, the teachers or even the school nurse are not who they seem to be. The text and organization of the chapters flow well. Chapter titles help us gain foresight into what is to come. Students in the suggested age range should find it a good read.

there's a gremlin in the works!
Gremlins were first discussed during World War II when British planes mysteriously stopped working. It was said that a little magical creature with a taste for messing up mechanical and electrical things was tinkering about and causing mischief in the plane. If that's the case, a gremlin wouldn't bother with Bailey Elementary School, and she CERTAINLY wouldn't chew bubble gum... WOULD SHE??

Welcome to "lucky" number 13 in the Bailey School Kids series. If you've been following their strange and sometimes creepy adventures, you'll know that the 3rd grade teacher may be a vampire, a genie once moved in next door to the school, a werewolf may have been the camp counselor, and even Santa Claus himself may have been the school custodian! That is, if you happen to believe in that sort of thing...

This time, Ms. Kidwell has come to substitute for the school secretary. Once there, odd things seem to happen whenever she chews her bubble gum. The lights go out, the fire bell goes haywire, the clocks stop working. What's REALLY odd-and kind of creepy-is that every time something electrical goes on the fritz, a new charm appears on Ms. Kidwell's charm bracelet!! Is it possible she's a gremlin come to play around with the school's electrical systems?

The Bailey School Kids series is a fast-paced one where strange, odd and sometimes creepy things are always happening. Children who are even reluctant readers are enjoying them because of their subject matter (weird, often supernatural creatures who seem to appear in everyday settings-gremlins chewing gum, cupid flipping hamburgers, witches doing backflips, etc etc etc)-and because of the quick, snappy comebacks that are always flying back and forth between the characters. As an adult, I can finish one of these in about 15-20 minutes and have found myself reading as many as I can lay my hands on. While they may not be pillars of Western Literature, if they inspire your child to read, then read on!!

enjoyable reading
My daughter has read almost all of the Bailey Schoolseries. She says that this is not her favorite Bailey School Kidsbook, but she liked it. The Bailey School Kids series is a great way for parents to get reluctant readers to enjoy reading. You may find your child begging you to buy another one, as I did.

Aliens Don't Wear Braces
I read Aliens Don't Wear Braces. I thought it was a very interesting book. I liked it because it was different from any other book I read. That's the reason I liked it was something I never thought about and I like reading those kinds of book. I recommend kids 8 through 10 to read this book because it boosts a kid's imagination and they need to do that. I think kids should read books because kids should read instead of playing video games or watching TV. You would be rotting your brain and this is a good book to read. Everybody should read kids especially. Parents should read too.

Don't Pass This Book !!!
Aliens Don't Wear Braces by Debbie Dadey

Have you ever heard of an alien that wears braces? This book is about four kids named Howie, Eddie, Melody, and Liza. These kids had a substitute in art and they had a feeling she was an alien. Help them solve if the art teacher is an alien or not.

The reason I like this book was it is a mystery. Is the art teacher an alien? Another reason I liked this book was that they did some spying and they might get caught spying.

The author wrote this book to show how curious these kids are. A lesson the author wrote in this book was to have confidence in yourself.

What's Going On?
Do aliens wear braces? Find out in this book!

When Eddie goes to the principal's office, he meets Mrs. Zork. Apparently, when they go to art, their teacher isn't their. Mrs. Zork is. The art teacher isn't there because he's sick. Then, Mrs. Jeepers gets sick.

Mrs. Zork loves color. Infact, Eddie's red hair is next. When Eddie and Howie go to Mrs. Zork's house, they saw all the color that she stole. Can Howie and Eddie get all the world's color back? Find out in this book!
