IMPOSSIBLE TO READ WITHOUT SHEDDING A TEAR!
This is not an easy book to read, and you may often find yourself having to put the book down once in awhile simply to get away from the horror and reality of child abuse. Silverman is more than a survivor, she is an inspiration to victims who have experienced the savage, psychological, and inhuman terrors of child abuse. In Silverman's case, it tears the reader's heart to the very core to read of the abuse suffered at the hands of the one person who should have provided love and protection - her own father. What goes on behind the closed doors of a prominent, respected family will validate that child abuse knows no barriers or limitations when it comes to social standing. Silverman takes the reader through a nightmarish journey which will make the staunchest of characters break down and weap, not only for Silverman but for all the other innocent children whose childhood is being stolen from them at the hands of an abuser. The scars of child abuse remain forever, but through Silverman's story, she shows a light at the end of the tunnel, and an inner personal strength in reaching out to others that can only truly be understood by someone who has walked in her shoes.
Most exquesite writing about a most horrific topic
Sue Silverman's award-winning book is truly a work of art. The language is simple and powerful, like perfect poetry. Her story is personal, but as more and more similar stories of childhood sexual abuse are revealed, this book has a universal tone that is frightening because of its ordinariness. I could only read a few pages as a time, but I literally couldn't put it down and, after devoted the better part of two days to the effort, allowed myself to be moved to tears by the story and by the fine writing.
Chilling story of child abuse
This is one book I sincerely wish did not have to be written or published, not because it happened, but because I wish something like this never had to happen. I had not heard of Sue William Silverman before picking up her memoir, and the second I closed the covers together I wished that she did not have to live the life she was forced to live. To have survived years of torment and terror, of which Williamson has her own definitions, is truly a testament to the author's will to maintain a normal life beyond the circle of abuse.
Written to read like a novel, Because I Remember Terror is a gripping history of abuse and power, and of the subsequent healing and forgiveness. People with weak stomachs should be warned that Silverman does not sugar-coat her childhood--her language, though vibrant and flowing, is quite raw. Those fortunate to have never been sexually abused should read this as an account of a terror that needs to be extinguished. Those who have been abused will look to this book as representation of one woman's survival.

Kilmer's Pet Monster
I like this book because there was this pet contest the kids are going to have at Bailey Elementary School. Kilmer, (a boy that looks kind of like a frankenstein) has a pet named Bruno. His pet is a mysterious pet and noone ever saw it. Ben a friend of Kilmer was going to borrow Kilmer's pet spider because Kilmer's grandmother, a witch put a spell on those spiders. Kilmer didn't take Bruno at the pet contest because it was out of control and wouldn't get on the leash, but Ben shared the spiders with Kilmer.

blindside the bully
Bad books on bullying resolve the conflict by having the bully pledge eternal friendship after receiving Algebra (or English or History) lessons from the bullied. There are a lot of bad books about bullying out there. This isn't one of them. Highly recommended to be read aloud with a child on your lap.

Another great Bailey School Kids book
My 8 year old loved this book. He didn't even pick up his game boy until he had read the whole thing! The silly titles in this series lure him in, and the storylines hook him.

Everything you need to know about flax!
This book is a quick and easy read since only about 16 pages, the introduction, are text. The rest of the book contains recipes for using ground flaxseed and flaxseed oil. That is not to say that it's not worth the money-it will tell you everything you need to know about this essential part of the vegetarian diet. Many of us have missed the boat on flax. We have heard about omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, but it's often unclear exactly why we need them, why they are so important. This book goes into detail on that subject without being boring or difficult to understand. And it gives you over 80 ways to incorporate flax in your diet, recipes for breakfast, breads, spreads and dips, salads and dressings, soups, entrees, side dishes, and desserts. Two of the authors, Barb Bloomfield and Judy Brown, are well-known vegetarian authors. Siegfried Gursche, has a long history as a researcher and developer of flax. He is also the publisher of alive magazine and alive books and the author of Healing with Herbal Juices.
What I Just Found Out
Where has this information been hiding for so long. Bloomfield has done a good job of explaining the vital importance this "super food" plays in our health. Whether it is in the form of the oil or the powder, or the lingen rich fiber. One additional thing I have learned from a site called PapaNature is the blending of flax oil and omega 3. PapaNature reinforces Bloomfield's explanations on the importance of flax in our health. It also offers a choice of products and versions of flax.
Here's To Your Health with Flax
Flax - the Super Food - Book Review The Introduction, provides a helpful background on flax that's easy to understand. The author speaks from his experience, having developed, marketed, and distributed flax products for the health food market as well as studied flax farming and pressing techniques. Covered is the history of flax, from before Christ, to the present, including where flax is raised today. The author gives illustrations of how flax has helped both animals and humans. Flax can be a food and a medicine, both on the inside (in food and as a laxative) as well as on the outside (as poultices for healing wounds and healthy skin). There is a good explanation of the fiber, mucilage, lignans, and oil in flax and their health benefits. There are helpful consumer tips on how to purchase, use, and store flax oil and flax (both the brown and the newer gold varieties of flax.) The author stresses how to buy flax oil in small quantities, in dark containers, and "cold-expeller-pressed" as heating and refining changes the flax oil into unhealthy trans fats. The recipe section, written by two cookbook authors, features a variety of healthy, vegetarian recipes that include not only flax but also soy foods such as tofu and soy milk. Each recipe has a helpful nutritional analysis. To eliminate confusion ,it might help to explain whether a recipe calling for "ground flaxseeds" means to measure the flax before or after grinding. Some other helpful additions to the book might be: o A mini conversion chart of how much whole flax seed equals how much ground flax o A nutritional analysis of flax and flax oil, such as found on a food label, that would include the calories, fat, fiber, protein content, etc o A few more documented human research studies from places such as NCI (National Cancer Institute) to further substantiate the many health benefits of flax. o A bit more discussion by a nutritionist discussing omega 3 and omega 6 fats, including possibly a chart showing the fat composition of flax and flax oil by the percentage of each type of fat. o A list of flax resources (books, web sites) and places to get flax in the US and Canada - such as the Flax Council of Canada.

disclaimer: know Pilates first
This ab workout is amazing, but deceptively hard. The workout is based on Pilates moves and I think someone who has not had experience with Pilates techniques and breathing may either have a hard time with getting the posturing right (and keeping it that way), and may be wasting their time if they don't have the proper Pilates basics down. A lot of the ab work depends on using your abs to breathe, and this is explained well by the instructor. One problem with the video is that some of the moves she does towards the end of the workout are very advanced Pilates moves-- impossible at a beginner or even intermediate level. Some of these moves have to be built up to with other moves, but the instructor just has us doing them as if they were simple situps. She does, however, aknowledge that we may have difficulties doing some of the moves, and offers alternate moves (eg. alternating leg and arm moves instead of doing them simultaneously). If you have never done Pilates before, I suggest doing this video with someone who has, and can give you tips on posturing that the video does not provide. All in all, however, this is a great video and a VERY hard ab workout. I was definately feeling it the next day.
Great after a long day at work
This is a great abs workout and very relaxing. The method involves lots of stretching and focusing on breathing. Lots of different exercises are introduced. Some are easy and some are more difficult. My mom says that there's no way she'll ever be able to do the move where you lie on your back with the ball between your feet and then put your feet and the ball over your head, but she can do all the other moves. Because there aren't many repetitions of each move, it doesn't seem like the workout is that hard, but I can definitely feel it later. This is not one of those ab workouts that will make you sweat or cry in pain, but it is still very effective though a little slow and long at times. An added bonus is all the stretching and relaxing over the ball which makes this a great workout for after work.
Suzanne Deason rules!
I first bought the balance ball kit with the sample video. I did that for a while so I could get used to using the balance ball. I then bought all three of the tapes that go with the balance ball. This ab workout is really great. It really works all of the ab muscles without being too hard on the body. I like this workout as a nice change of pace from aerobics, etc.
