A wonderful resource from beginning to end!
This book is exactly what I was looking for - and I didn't even know it. I thought the book would be basic explanations of keeping a nature notebook with the bonus of having the authors (and her children's) sketches in it. I was VERY pleased to find that it was that, plus a whole lot more. A homeschooling mom has written the book and she very articulately shows how using journals can incorporate into more than just art or nature study. In the book, I found a brief history of different people who have kept journals through the ages and the various reasons why. (This alone has given me many ideas in helping to introduce journals to my children.) She goes on to give suggestions on how to get started and what supplies are needed. Five different chapters are included on teaching & incorporating various subjects with your Discovery Journals. And the appendices give a list of books with examples of nature studies, and a list of famous men & women whose journals can be looked into for further study. I found this to be a wonderful resource. I have always kept journals but never ventured into keeping a nature journal. This will be an excellent resource to get me started and keep me going and its quite a bargain for all the information packed into this lovely little book.

A insightful work of emerging agenda: Internationalization
Robert O. Keohane and Helen V. Milner, editors of "Internationalization and Domestic Politics", written in 1996, are one of the most intelligent International Relations scholars today. This book focuses on the enormous effect of internationalization on domestic politics; changes of national economic policies, institutional and political changes within a nation, and changes of the attitude of socio-economic interest group toward national economic policy. Then they apply their theoretical hypothesis to the United States, Japan, Russia, China, and a few developing countries. Besides validity of their hypothesis, this book proposes a great insight into the global phenomenon, internationalization, and shows how each country¡¯s national economic policies converge on global level. "A candid analysis of internationalization" - that is enough for my impression.

A "must-have" book for the serious collector....
Exceptional photography by Walter Pfeiffer brings the beloved Goebel figurines to the page in amazing detail, while Joan N. Ostroff and Manfred Arras economize on words to convey the essence of the art so many of us collect. These are the best 320 pages you can own if you simply love looking at Sister Hummel's little children. This is not a price list or catalog, but rather a masterful presentation of the best ceramic figurines anyone could hope to own.

The third chapter alone, "The People Behind the Figurines," is worth every penny of the price of this book. The Goebel tradition of fine craftsmanship is articulated in photo essay form. Master sculptors, moldmakers, casters, assemblers, kilnsmen, glazers, and painters are captured like never before, and the complicated and many-stepped process of making the figurines is brought to your study for thoughtful appreciation. As many as forty molds are required to make some of the pieces, shedding light at last on why these beautiful little children can cost more than your new wide-screen TV.

If you collect Hummels, you owe it to yourself to buy this book. You'll love it as much as you love any of your figurines.

Long awaited fingerweaving book
The long wait for new material on Indian fingerweaving has finally paid off. This manual not only picks up where Alta Turner's Indian Fingerweaving left off, but pretty much covers everything she wrote some 20 yrs ago (save for the peruvian braiding). This manual is great for the beginners as well as more advanced weaver who want to pick up a few tips and tricks to create beautiful warp face and oblique woven sashes. Color plates and bountiful instruction are presented in the lessons and as well for those who are interested in learning the selvedge edge methods. There are many color plates as well as illustrations to help with comprehension. In the back you will find a slew of old b&w pics of the old-time pow wow straight dancers in their regalia and sashes. It features a color plate of the earliest extant example of warp face weaving from the late 18th century, not to mention all the other awe inspiring beauties! It doesn't just stop at weaving it includes instructions on how to weave in the tiny white beads (as opposed to sewing them in), beading the fringes, and the twisting and braiding of the fringe itself.. This is the perfect book that both modern style and historical style weavers will not want to miss.

The first change management book I've found.
Being an IT consultant, two of my main concerns are Project Management and Change Resistance. The combination of these two usually helps or dooms a project. "Managing Transitions" is the first book I have read that focuses on HOW to deal with change, instead of staying only in the WHAT should change, or WHY change is necessary.

In summary, "Managing Transitions" divides change into beginning, transition, and closure. It also suggests taking people's feelings into account, and giving them as much information as can be given, in order to get the trust of the ones going through change.

It gets four stars because in most chapters it talks about upper management as knowing exactly what has to be done, and it is only at the end that it acknowledges they may be wrong too. Since this is a book directed to managers, that is understandable. Most of its focus is in showing superiors how to lead their subordinates through change. However, it also devotes one chapter to explain how to deal with personal change.

With 125 pages, it is easy to read. In this "Who Moved my Cheese?" age, Bridges book is getting much less attention than it deserves.

Managing Transitions: Making the Most of Change
Leading a full-time staff of 20 people and over a 1000 volunteers, and having read a number of books on change, I have found William Bridges book extremely helpful. Many talk about change without thinking about the people that change can effect. William helps us understand that change is situational, while transition is emotional. He puts flesh and bones on change.

This book is well organized, breaking down transition into three phases. Phase I: "The Letting Go Stage", Phase II: "The Neutral Zone" and Phase III: "The New Beginning" In each phase William helps us understand what to anticipate and gives us extremely practical advice and checklists.

I also enjoy the awesome quotes throughout the book. Here are some great qoutes from Phase II:

"It's not so much that we're afraid of change or so in love with the old ways, but it's the place inbetween that we fear... It's like being between trapezes." Marilyn Ferguson

"It takes nine months to have a baby, no matter how many people you can put on the job." American saying

"An adventure is only an inconvience rightly understood. An inconvience is only an adventure wrongly understood." C.K. Chesterton

Get the book. It is well worth your investment. It will help you with your greatest asset: PEOPLE.

This is an excellent work that can guide one through change
At 50 years of age, having served two previous Governor's as a department director, I learned I was not being re-appointed by the newly elected Governor. I knew I would survive, but fear was a daily feeling. My brother referred Dr. Bridges's book to me. I read it in two days. I found this book to be one of the most helpful I have ever read. I have a MSW degree, but never heard anyone describe "transition" as he has. It was "right on the money!" Since reading the book I have informed colleagues and friends about it. I purchased three copies for friends who are going through difficult times. In every case they have said how much this book helped them. It is worth reading any time, but especially if you are undergoing a change in your life and you don't understand the reason you feel so strange.

Liddy tells it like it is (or how it used to be)
G. Gordon Liddy is one of America's historical figures that is not afraid to tell it like it is. He pulls no punches.
If you have ever wondered what is wrong with the United States today & how it used to be then you need to read this book.
It will make you mad to know how the liberals have ruined this country in the name of political correctness.
I commend this book to everyone who can read.
Liddy does a superb job in writing and is a stickler for correct grammar and English usage. Liddy speaks the truth and watch most Americans feel but are afraid to say.
Liddy also reveals the truth about Watergate & blows past theories out of the water with actual proof.
GET This book today, read it and lets take back our country and make it the great country it once was.
I just wish it had been more to read.
Thanks G-Man. We need more men like you.

One Can Never Go Home Again But We Can Remember & Dream!
Another good book written by a man of courage, substance and character in G. Gordon Liddy and I found it to be educating and revealing in content. The authors' straightforward style is refreshing and commands your attention throughout his writings. This is a man who was stripped of everything without lying or making excuses and paid his debt to society no matter how unfair it was imposed upon him.

He provides in very good detail how America has changed over the years from the encouragement of individual views to one fill with political correctness that stifles freedoms. This political correctness as silence the general public with fears to say anything these days. A Republic is dependent upon a well educated and informed electorate but too many valueless emotional nonsense manufacturers dominate the vast media agenda.
Such agendas' are based upon emotional ratings without common sense on the effects upon everyone's choice. The writers' book counters such myopic practices with good history, logical arguments and rationale thinking.

G. Gordon Liddy life is well documented and he has been the subject of many lies, rumors and innuendos intended to maim him and his family. Yet, thorough it all he survives and thrives without apologies or regrets. This is to be admired not shunned into today's world of false hopes, media created heroes and good common people made fun of by goading people whose own values lack self-esteem, so they resort to tearing down others.

I am finding the books written by conservatives are far more accurate with far better sources than those written by liberals. One has intent to persuade with facts and the other seeks to disguise and hide real facts for a common agenda bent against individual freedoms. As a moderate I am starting to lose confidence in anything I am hearing from the gnomes of our mainstream media elites.

I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in remembering how America was a place where we could discuss important issues in an intellectual way without fear of being called a racists, gun nut or patriot. I feel what the author is actually saying is that none of us can ever go home again to an America we once remember and is lost forever. Yet, despite this knowledge or lack of it, I still believe in this nation and its roots, values and principles because of men like G. Gordon Liddy!

A Rare Historical Delight!
A very important book -- and a book I could not put down, for Liddy's writing style is positively infectious!

Liddy has accomplished two very important things: one, he has articulated in an irresistible manner what so many people complain about -- the out-of-control hemorrhaging of freedom in this country, to the point where it is barely recognizable as the country we once knew and loved. Liddy knows whereof he speaks, and it is touching to read about another, better America. Quite simply (if you weren't born then you can read about it for yourself), we once had vast individual freedom in this country -- an unimaginable, almost alien concept today. (Read and weep!)

But more important, in his electrifying appendix Liddy has finally exposed the much-suppressed dirty truth of Watergate. Every American who is in any way interested in politics or history must see the evidence for himself, for it took years of meticulous investigation (and litigation) to bring it to light, and it demonstrates that conventional Watergate history -- OUR history -- is based upon fraud. As Watergate remains what one noted analyst called the "master narrative of modern American politics," this book will be controversial, and the Washington spin machine people will doubtless do their damnedest to suppress it.

All the more reason you should read it for yourself! This book will amaze you!

Good "first book" on the Registry
For the most part, this is clone of his "Windows 95 Registry troubleshooting" book with some added information on remote registry editing and a few NT specific tips. That was very disappointing.

On it's own, however, it's a good first book for anyone who doesn't own any books on the Registry. Like the other books on this subject, it covers using RegEdit and RegEdt32 and gives you a pretty good overview of the registry. But, it lacks any kind of comprehensive list of registry settings, even on the CD. I also found the CD was missing a couple of files listed in the back of the book. While it also does a pretty good job of covering policies and some network settings, this isn't the best book available for network administrators.
