Excellent Instructions
This is an excellent pattern book for getting started in Intarsia. The book contains 12 projects varying from wildlife to Christmas to a puppy in a basket. Each project gets a little more challanging. All projects include a color picture of the finished project and full size plans to make the project, along with narration about the projects special features and 'Helpful Tips' to make the project easier to complete.

The first project includes 12 pages of narration and 41 color photos explaining and showing the different techniques of intarsia. Just follow along, step by step, and before you know it, you have a complete Brown Pelican you can be proud to display. The second project, Puppy in a Basket, has 16 pages of narration and 58 color photos to guide your way to a beautiful completed project. The last ten projects do not go into as much detail, only a few paragraphs and the completed finished color photo. However, many of the techniques discussed in the first two projects carry over to almost ALL intarsia projects.

A great beginner book for Intarsia, some nice simple Intarsia plans and a few challanging ones for the more experienced sawyer. A must for every scroll sawyer collection.

Intarsia artistry in Wood
The authers begin by helping you through a project step by step. I followed along with them and my first project was a beautiful Brown Pelican. Their Instructions included wood selection and pattern use. You are then incouraged to go solo and hone your skills. The degree of difficulty of the patterns range from basic to an intermediate level. I encourage anyone with a scroll saw to begin with this book and getting into the fasinating hobby of intarsia. In no time they will be creating items of beauty to be proud of.

A classic knitting book
For years and years I've returned to my copy of Knitting in the Old Way by Priscilla Gibson-Roberts. It's a terrific book and explains how to knit the sweater _you_ want as opposed to a cookbook approach to replicate the sweater in a magazine.

Priscilla explains how to modify your pattern for the yarn you have, how to make it fit _you_, and then teaches you the tricks you need to successfully knit the sweater. She teaches you how to make sweaters from all over the world: Irish fisherman sweaters, Fair Isles, Norwegian, ... As a hand spinner, I love that she often works with handspun yarn, but her sweaters work just fine with commercial yarns too.

So, the bad news is that this wonderful, marvelous book is out-of-print. The really good news is that she's currently working with Deb Menz (previous editor of Interweave Press's SpinOff magazine) to revamp the book and will release it in the Spring'03. I understand that they're adding new bits and it looks quite exciting.

This means that I'll be able to get a copy to loan to friends and won't have to worry about my copy disappearing.

A modern knitting classic!
My copy of "Knitting in the Old Way" is a cherished classic, signed by Priscilla Gibson-Roberts in 1988 at a meeting of the Madison Knitter's Guild in Madison, Wisconsin. Highly informative, with beautiful illustrations, this is a book for any knitter interested in appreciating the rich history of many classic sweater designs and really understanding some of the fundamentals of sweater construction. I was able to knit several beautiful sweaters using the guidelines in this book. It is definitely a book for the "thinking knitter," not someone who just wants to follow rote instructions. I learned a tremendous amount from this book, and enjoy reading Ms. Gibson-Roberts interesting histories of various sweaters, and descriptions of different techniques. She even talks about spinning yarn. There are nice illustrations as well as many color-photo pages of sweaters she has crafted. Highly recommended to any knitter interesting in furthering his/her skills.

A good introduction for a beginner
This is the first book I bought when I started learning this amazing craft. It has beautiful illustrations and pictures (in color), which really show some of the techniques better than you can describe them. It is short and to-the-point, but I did eventually buy a more detailed book. But this one remains the one that I check back with to answer quick questions! Definitely worth the money!

Quick Success to Stain Glass
I am a beginner and I'm teaching myself. This book was very helpful in teaching me how to begin. It also has a lot of nice designs that I was not afraid to try. I found this book very helpful in getting started.

Excellent Reference For The Slot Car Enthusiast
This is a very well done book on the slot car hobby for the beginner, novice and advanced enthusiast. I particularly found the information on various track layout designs, car tune-up and custom car building to be excellent. This book focuses on 1/32 scale and provides limited HO scale coverage. It has rekindled my interest in the hobby.

Great Book
This is a must have . If you are an avid slot fan or have ever owned slot cars you will appreciate this book. Robert did a great job....

Miniature quilts made easy.
How can this author put so much into a book. She begins with easier piecing and takes the mystery out of putting tiny pieces together. She goes beyond this by showing the best value of color to make the quilt dance and sparkle. This is an amazing book, one that every quilter should have in their library. She solves problems, causes you to want to make tiny quilts in many many colors for every room in the house.

Miniature quilts made easier.
SMALL SCALE QUILTMAKING takes the mystery and fear out of tiny piecing. The selection of fabric is so very important, showing that the strong contrasting fabrics have more character. Many projects to entice any quilter with information to make this tiny project a reality.

The Spirit of Clay
This is absolutely the best book on pottery/clay that I have read. It is clearly written, thorough and most of all inspirational. Scott Piepenburg weaves the importance of the reader's personal and spiritual self in relation to working with clay with easy to follow instructional text. Highly recommended!

My favorite book on ceramics
Very well written, complete coverage of contempory craft ceramics. It's the one book I keep going back to. Nice discussion of the emotional/spiritual side of creating in clay which most books ignore. Excellent presentation graphically & visually too.

An excellent basic currency reference.
This work, along with Friedberg's book and Hessler's work, make up the three primary basic reference works on United States Currency. The Catalog contains an excellent reference section on National Bank Notes, receiving much more press than in Friedberg's work. The pricing, while out of date, is actually fairly realistic in today's market, unlike the Black Book or even Friedberg's book. A great plus is that this work is cross referenced by Friedberg Numbers, which are the standard cataloging numbers used by all dealers and collectors in the hobby. Well worth the investment!

WOW!
This is, by far, the most beautiful embroidery book I've ever seen anywhere, at any time. It seems impossible that such impressive works of art could have been created. Robert Ketchum's photographs are beautiful, but the embroideries are, indeed, so breathtaking that it's hard to believe real human beings could have worked on them. This is the kind of embroidery I would love to be able to do, but it is so amazing that I know I'll never reach such a high level of expertise (at least not in this lifetime). My thanks to all the people involved in this project for sharing their special gifts with me and anyone else fortunate enough to have purchased this book or, better still, to have seen these works in person.

breathtaking embroidery
This book contains lavish photos of breathtaking embroidery from the Suzhou Embroidery Research Institute, representing the pinnacle of Chinese embroidery. Many of the examples are photorealistic interpretations of landscape photographs - an amazing achievement. It makes one understand why embroidery has long been regarded as a fine art in China, often esteemed higher than painting. A must for anyone who loves embroidery or textiles.
