Christmas's of the Past
I found this book to be delightful even at the age I am! I was raised in the forties and our trees were alway cut trees and very simple,so I could relate to trees not being very beautiful in some peoples eye but these trees were beautiful to me and I I enjoyed this little book since I could write down all those memories and pass them onto my children. I wrote some of the stories and passed the book onto my daughter to write some of her own memories of trees at Christmas. Sometimes simple books like "Christmas Trees" are the best. I would like to purchase two more books like this for gifts.

Confessions of a Real CB Nut

The Author's view
This book was written to offer a glimpse back at the wild and wonderful 70's when CB radio swept the nation. I became totally involved spending thousands of hours and dollars enjoying it. It takes you from the first tenative steps as an unlicensed operator on AM through the Sideband phase, onward and upward into the VHF and UHF regions finally being licensed as a ham. It's chocked full of personal stories to help the reader understand the personalities involved. After CB came other fads and phases such as cell phones and ultimately computers and the internet. My experiences on these and many other subjects round out this lite-hearted book. I believe it will make for hours of fun-filled reading.

Musical Masterpiece
This book is wonderful. It really allows one to getinto the head of a musical genius, Igor STravinsky. Through the questions Robert Craft asks Stravinsky and the answers Craft receives, one learns how a man of that caliber survives all the pressure and attention. This book is perfect for the music lover and the person who is an aspiring musician.

Designs for Glass Etching
Delightful collection of patterns for etching that also work well for engraving on glassware. All of the patterns are easily enlarged or reduced and keep their detail. Includes florals, animals, and artistic borders. These patterns are much more realistic than some that are available, and make very nice finished porducts. A "must have" for the glass etcher or engraver!

Lost in the woods
As I became lost in the art of intarsia, this book was my map. Completely unknown to the craft, I purchased this book as a way to beat my summer bordom. As I opened each page, a swirl of thoughts came to me, and I immediately made plans to visit the local hardwood retailer to start my first project. But where to start? This book has the most wonderful design ideas, from beginner to advanced, even I was impressed with the works I had done. You can make each project over and over, because the wood you use is always different. I would recomend this book highly to anyone slightly interested in the art and history and creativity of intarsia.

The most useful guide for writers I've read
Often when I come across a book considered a guide for fiction writers, I feel first an excitement and then a letdown. So many of these books are impractical and strictly theoretical, never allowing you to move easily from idea to example. Olmstead's book is the exception. In it, he has considered nearly every way writers tell stories, provided excellent examples of their methods and explained the effect, and followed these with exercises for the reader/writer. A number of my short stories contain passages that began as products of these exercises. You can't beat that for practicality. If you write, and you want to expand your understanding of crafting your stories, buy this book. Read it as a companion to John Gardner's Art of Fiction.
