An excellent primer on the study of public discourse
James R. Andrews' "A Choice of Worlds: The Practice and Criticism of Public Discourse" is an ideal choice for introducing college undergraduates (or even high school students) to the basic mysteries of rhetorical criticism. In Part One, "The Rhetoric of Public Discourse," Andrews establishes a series of practical and critical principles based on the centrality of the relationships between a speaker, an audience and a message understood in relation to its context. In Part Two, "Speeches for Analysis and Criticism," look at each of his six principles through a pair of speeches, the complete texts of which are included at the end of the chapter. For example, "The Primacy of the Audience" is presented through a critical introduction, "Peace Among Ourselves: Lincoln, King and the Rhetoric of Unity," which uses Lincoln's "Second Inaugural Address" and King's "I Have A Dream" speech. Other chapters include speeches by Franklin Roosevelt, John Kennedy, Thomas Jefferson, Winston Churchill and Malcolm X. "A Choice of Worlds" is an introductory text, refined over the years by Andrews at Indiana University, which will provide students with an appropriate grounding in the study of public discourse and prepare them for the next level where they will study specific rhetorical theorists such as Aristotle, Burke and Toulmin. However, this text more than adequately establishes the basics.

Creating Private Foundation
A great great book to give to your existing Private Foundation clients, as well as those considering their options. The book hits on several key points among many others - which are the reason to formalize your investment policy statement(IPS) and donor intent issues. The author is correct that too often good intentions fail to result in effective results. It deals with other vehicles like charitable lead trusts (CLTs) and charitable remainder trusts (CRTs) as well as donor advised and support organizations. It is a big picture book not a technical how to for the attorney!

It's been there since 1995, and I was WAITING for s.th. like this! DSS in original language, a reference! Why has nobody recognize this? For now I'm in low budget, bus as soon as I get enough fund I'm going to buy a copy of this, and write a proper review. But if this is the complete text in original language, it's a must for everyone who wants to examine the DSS seriously.

Designing HIV/AIDS Intervention Studies: An Operations Resea
...This is an excellent introduction to operations research in HIV/AIDS. It can be used in workshops and courses on research design and proposal development and is in fact organized chapter-by-chapter like a research proposal to help users write detailed OR proposals of their own. It reviews many key concepts and methods essential for conducting HIV/AIDS field research studies and can help program administrators and health policymakers understand how OR works and how to use research findings to improve HIV/AIDS service delivery.

A Primary Sourcebook for Chemotherapists
This an extremely sophisticated analysis of one of the most troubling aspects of chemotherapy, namely the tendency over time for a patient to develop resistance to the agent being applied. The Goldie-Coldman model for resistance is one of the best known in chemotherapy. Since it operates at a level of some mathematical complexity, some physicians and biochemists have found it somewhat off-putting. However, in this book, the authors have carefully minimized mathematical complexity and emphasized an intuitive approach which is very approachable by most oncologists. This book is an excellent resource, one which should be in the library of every chemotherapist,

Memorable memoir
I read this book over 10 years ago, and have not forgotten it. It is a wonderful evocation of day to day life in a small English village during "The Great War". Not a description of the war itself, but rather of the life of the village people during the war, and how they were impacted by the events of war, this book fleshes out the war as it was lived by non-combatants. I highly recommend it.

Outstanding!
This book is probably the most concentrated source of material on the Great Locomotive Chase that I have ever seen, and yet is presented in a highly readable format. Mr. Bogle has provided an impressive array of data on both engines and many rare photos of them from the 19th century up until today, as well as a prodigious amount on the participants themselves. Paintings and drawings by Wilbur Kurtz graphically illustrate key events in the raid and bring to life an event that today still captures the imagination. With chapters devoted to the films made of this event and of the Medal of Honor (first awarded to the raid participants), this book is guaranteed to provide many hours of fascinating reading for not only the railfan or modeler but also the Civil War historian.
