Outstanding
This program was recommended to me by a former high school football coach, who gave up the sport to become the chess coach. My nephew age 14, and my kids, 10 and 8, loved it immediately. Ashley uses an easy-to-follow sequential approach to teaching the game. My nephew played me after completing about 75% of the first training level. Much to my surprise and embarassment, he won. I have never taken the time to study the strategies behind the game of chess, but have played for many years, and consider myself to be a logical thinker--certainly one who could best a 14 year old novice! After that humbling experience I decided to go through the training myself. So far I am quite impressed and I enjoy the lessons greatly. It goes without saying that any chess Grand Master is brilliant player, but Maurice Ashley is equally brilliant as a teacher. I'm ordering three more copies: one for my notebook, and two for gifts.

Excellent learning software for children (and adults!)
I purchased this software because my son (age 6) was learning to play chess. Software reviews rated this program highly. They were right. My son loved it and learned a lot. (I learned a lot too!). My son has finished all the lessons and has moved on to Chessmaster 8000, but I think that Maurice Ashley Teaches Chess was the best way to start. The enthusiasm of Maurice's descriptions really keeps the interest up. The lessons are simple and well designed, teaching beginning concepts easily. The verbal commentary on some world famous games was really educational.

Chess Master Masterfully Teaches How to Think Like a Master
Maurice Ashley is a superb chess teacher. Anyone who wants to learn or already plays chess will love and benefit from this title. In an intelligent, inviting, engaging, and entertaining approach, Maurice Ashley explains basic and intermediate strategies for playing and thinking like a chess master. He provides loads of varied practice and down-to-earth advice in clear and accessible language. This is the BEST chess teaching software I've experienced.

I'm Really Rosie...And I'm Rosie Real...
Really Rosie was, without a doubt, my favorite character growing up. I knew all the songs, and wore out the record. I finally bought another copy two years ago when I was hunting for the perfect gift for a friend's 5-year-old daughter, and I still knew all the words! This spunky heroine is a great example for any shy young girl - she's imaginative, creative, confident and a leader. And don't we need more of that nowadays from young women!

Simply The Best...
This is a truly wonderful book. I worked in a day care for 15 years. We had movie day every Wed. This was one of the kids all time favorites favorite movies. And the book is just as great. Definitly one of my favorites. Right there next to "Where The Wild Things Are".

A great book. I recommend getting the audio tape as well.
I grew up listening to Really Rosie (by Carol King) and following along in this book. I'm 32 now and still like to sing the songs with my family, when we get together. It's a great way to get children interested in creating highly imaginative situations and promotes group entertainment among a diverse age range.

A "must have" for Nutrition Graduate Students
This book is the most comprehensive and up-to-date textbook on nutrition available! The 9th edition has 115 (one hundred fifteen) chapters and multiple sections of an Appendix, updated by 169 authors in 10 countries and from many scientific disciplines. Nutrition science has an extremely broad scope with relevance to all basic and applied biologic sciences, medicine, dentistry, dietetics, nursing, pharmacy, public health and public policy. In one very thorough edition (approx 2,000 pages), this text succeeds at integrating Nutrition science into practical knowledge. For around $100, the price equals 20 cents per page ... making it an extraordinary value! ENJOY :)

Must-Have Nutrition Text!
This is one of the most comprehensive and valuable textbooks in the field of nutrition, covering major topics in basic and clinical nutrition. The 9th edition combines the two 8th edition volumes and includes new chapters. Topics covered in new chapters include alternative nutrition therapies, vegetarian diets, regulating food and dietary intakes and food labeling and dietary supplement legislation. I recommend this text for anyone in the field of nutrition and it is especially essential for anyone in a graduate nutrition program. If you are to buy one nutrition text, this should be it!

Sturdy Book
All the Maurice Pledger board books are extremely durable. The pictures and textures are attractive to babies and toddlers. These books really hold my daughter's attention.

Some of the best board books ever!
We purchased Maurice Pledger board books (Oscar Otter, Olive Owl and Billy Bunny) for our child at 6 months and at 2 years old they are still favorites. Here are just some of what we love about them. The illustrations are spectacular. They accurately represent the wildlife being depicted. There is a great variety of textures to appeal to a child's desire to touch and feel. Our child's favorite page is the "sticky" plant in Olivia Owl. They encourage interaction with questions like "How many shiny beetles has he found on the rose bush?" (from Billy Bunny) and requests like "Tickle her orange tummy." (from Oscar Otter). They are oversized for board books (approx. 9x11 inches), which our child loves. They give children nice big pictures to look at.

Beautiful illustrations with a learning bonus
My 14 month old daughter loves this book! She has owned it since she was 8 months old and has yet to tire of it. The illustrations are beautifully detailed with the bonus of teaching with fun textures on every page. My daughter has learned to identify texture as well as many animals and insects. I would highly recommend this book for early learning and fun!

A GREAT vacation book
This past Spring, we were looking for vacation books for our 3-year-old twins. Our main goal was to find some sticker books to entertain them on the plane, but Olivia Owl ended up being so MUCH more than that. Our girls love to read, so it's hard for us to bring enough books along on vacation to keep them busy. But Olivia Owl was a great resource -- there were enough pages to entertain them on the plane, to keep them busy during our week away, and even have some leftover pages & stickers for when we returned. The kids found the stories about the animals really engaging (as did their parents), and the stickers are very high quality, such that the kids can place and replace them over and over. We're now ordering other books in this sticker series for our NEXT trip. HIGHLY recommended!

This is a great book!
My 4 year old loves this book. Even though it's a sticker book, she still looks at it months after it's been completed (the stickers can be lifted and re-stuck several times). It took several hours over a few days to complete. The stickers are high quality -- they do not tear when my daughter lifts them up.

What I like about it is that it's educational without being condescending. The illustrations of the animals are real, and the pictures of their habitats are interesting and realistic. The information about the animals is just as interesting for Mom and Dad to read as it is for the little ones.

Fun Knowledge for Kids That Will Stick
This a not just another sticker book. With over 65 pages to place stickers and 12 pages jammed packed with stickers to stick, you can expose your children to a wonderful world of animals more complex than just bunny, bear and duck. The illustrations are beautiful and accurate. This book also gives information about animals in simple language for the child longing to absorb more details. This is not a book for your child to share with a smaller toddler. If you find leftover stickers, you can use them to make some fabulous craft projects and/or scrapbooks for your chldren. Ages 3-5.

Racing Stewart
I've been a fan of the wee Scott for many years following his career first as a driver and now as an entrant. One cannot imagine the problems faced by someone wanting to enter the competitive world of Formula One motor racing until you read this book.

A very informative account of the conception, launch and first year of a brand new Grand Prix race team. The book is extremely well written and supplemented by beautiful photography in both b&w and colour.

Now that Stewart Grand Prix has been bought out by Jaguar, this book is a must for any Formula One fan and provides a much valued documentary of this era of Grand Prix history.

Fantastic!
I read a lot of books for research on starting a Race team, this is one of the best books I chose!! This book takes you though the in's and out's and up's and down's of starting Stewart Ford. A lot of books give WAY too much detail, this one is just right, it gives the reader (race fan) just the right amount of content and excitement in the text followed by wonderful color and black and white photos. If you were not a Stewart Ford fan before, this book will at least make you have a little pull for them come race day. If you are interested in how it all started this is a great book, I couldn't put it down, it kept me going from front cover to back... I'll be looking for them this race year!

Read into the making of a Grand Prix team, from scratch
As fan of the Stewart Grand prix team, this book was the number one book on my christmas list last year. Here, a grand prix team opens it's doors to you, and shows you around. The whole book charts the first year of the Stewart Team in the world of F1. Described to you are the problems, barriers and hinderances in the way of setting up a grand prix team from next to nothing. It also re-accounts the moments of joy and great acheivement the team had in it's first year. "The" book for any supporter of the new guys in F1.

Reason to Believe

A reasonable view of Christianity
Wiles tackles really tough questions such as, "Who is God?" and "What is the meaning of the crucifixion" and "Is Christianity relevant today?" He proceeds to answer them satisfactorily by using reasoning. "Reason to Believe" is easy to read, as the author avoids theological jargon. I recommend it for Christians and non-Christians alike.

Incisive insights into the nature of Christian faith.
In Reason To Believe, noted Oxford theologian Maurice Wiles addresses clear answers to such fundamentally important questions of the Christian faith such as whether it is God or chance that determines what happens in the world; did the virgin birth, the crucifixion, and the resurrection really happen; if Christianity is true, are all other religions false; does Christian faith make any difference to morality; do suffering and evil negate faith in a good and loving God. Not a technical overview of Christian doctrine, Reason To Believe is an in-depth discussion of the issues important for reasonably assessing Christianity's basic claims. A bibliography provides recommendations for further reading for those interested in pursuing specific questions and issues in more detail. Maurice Wile's free-flowing argument and narrative style provides engaging and incisive insights into the very nature of Christian faith and is highly recommended for students of Christianity and the non-specialist general reader with an interest in Christian theology.

A clear, informative, detailed overview of Christian faith.
In Reason To Believe, Maurice Wiles (Regius Professor of Divinity Emeritus at Oxford University) give the reader a clear, comprehensive, informative overview and introduction to the Christian faith. Wiles identifies and explains the fundamental doctrinal tenets while providing appropriate responses to basic questions about Christian belief that often confuse Christians and non-Christians alike. A short section within each chapter (printed in bold type) discusses some of the issues that are important for reasonably assessing the truth regarding Christian claims and assertions. A bibliography is provided, as is an index of biblical references.

The Second Assassination of Maurice Bishop (New International, No 6)
Published in Paperback by Pathfinder Press (1989)
Author: Steve Clark
Amazon base price: $15.00

Heroic Revolutionist, fighter against Stalinism
One day those who have fought against Stalinism from Warsaw to Vladivostok, from Beijing to Hanoi, and beyond will realize in the Caribbean there has not only been the struggle Fidel and the Cuba revolutionists have led against Moscow-oriented bureaucrats to strangle their revolution, but that in Grenada Maurice Bishop the leader of that country's revolution was a heroic fighter against Stalinism. When they do, people will need this book, because this book provides a revolutionary Marxist analysis of Bishop's struggle for the Grenadian revolution, and how that revolution was defeated by the Cord faction. In the end, we find that Stalinism in Grenada and US imperialism had the same enemy, Bishop and the revolutionary power of Grenadian working people. This will open the door to the precious lessons we can learn from Bishop and his struggle have to teach us.

Long Live the Grenadian Revolution!
This issue of New International tells the story of how the deep-going and popular revolution which came to power in Grenada in 1979, led by Maurice Bishop, was destroyed from within by a Stalinist faction within the ruling New Jewel Movement. When the US invaded Grenada in October of 1983, the revolution was already dead at the hands of Bernard Coard and his associates. This is extremely important to understand because you can easily get the idea that any small country that dares to defy the power of the American empire will always go down to defeat. The invasion of Grenada was certainly a big blow to the liberation struggle in Grenada, but learning the lessons of how the defeat could have been avoided, and understanding the deadly role of Stalinism within Grenada, will make it more possible to succeed the next time around.

Aside from the title article on Grenada, the issue has a fantastic piece on the sordid history of US government spying and disruption campaigns against labor, civil rights and revolutionary movements; and how, with the right strategy, we can defeat and expose such efforts, as was done in a landmark lawsuit won by the Socialist Workers Party against the FBI in 1987.

Fighting for rights: Grenada and the U.S.
Part of the classic New International series, this book contains several articles that are extremely valuable for anyone attracted to a revolutionary perspective.
The Second Assassination of Maurice Bishop tells the full story of the Grenada revolution, which burst on the scene in 1979 and opened up a new world of hope and change for the Grenadian people. The article explains how the revolutionary leadership placed itself at the service of the masses, and did everything in its power to make them the masters of their own destiny. The betrayal and downfall of the revolution is explained in a blow-by-blow account of the battle within the leadership, which culminated in the 1983 victory of the Stalinist Bernard Coard faction and the assassination of Bishop and his comrades. The U.S. then invaded the island and obliterated the remains of the Grenadian revolution. A sad story, but such a valuable lesson for revolutionaries!
Another article in the book, The 50-Year Domestic Contra Operation, reviews the history of the U.S. government assault on the democratic rights of working people at home and abroad, dating back to World War I. It explains how democratic rights have been won by workers and their unions fighting against the bosses and their politicians in office. This government looks after the needs of the wealthy rulers, and in doing so has repeatedly sought to strip the workers of their rights, and is doing so even more in the twenty-first century.

Great - more like a coffee table art book
This book goes way beyond the usual movie companion book genre or the groupie can't get enough photos of the leading guy (or gal) genre for a very simple reason - its terrific design.

After flipping through a few pages, I knew I was in for a visual treat. Great layouts - the more powerful images rightly stand alone in a spread, while background and other less important photographs appear side by side. Creative use of color - Black and white photos are often on wonderful purple or red backgrounds that make them jump and don't distract. Great graphic and type choices are everywhere. Congratulations go to the book's creative team. The credits from Vision On Publishing list "Book Design by Nuisance" and "Reprographics by AJD" - great work.

Of particular note was the well-balanced choice of photos and interviews to include. Normally, movie books have way too many shots of the name-brand stars. Of course we hear from Guy Ritchie and Brad Pitt in Snatch, but great coverage of extras, production people and even Holly the Dog (who gets a two-page spread) make this more than the usual fanzine. In fact, its more like a coffee table art book.

Snatch it Now!
If youv'e not yet read this book, you need to do so now, to put it simply, although difficult, is that it is an amazing insight into the creation and the characters that star in the film, from their character traits to their own personalities comming through into the making of the film. The comical attitude of each character is an exception to the book, giving it a humorous yet serious and 'real' content. This book is definately a must buy for Snatch fans, and espcially for those who have not yet seen the film.

High quality photographs, nice anecdotes
This is a well-produced book and was worth the wait (I first placed an order for it in October). This book features many photos I had never seen before on nice thick pages. Some of the photos were full page and some covered two pages. There were over two dozen pics featuring Brad Pitt. Most of the photos are pretty good resolution though some are a bit blurred. Overall, a pretty good book. As for what it says ... the text was very little but always very amusing. Since I bought it for the photos, this did not matter. Buy it while you can!

A feast of history
One of the seven in the series "The Accursed Kings", "The Strangled Queen" is the story of Marguerite of Burgundy, the ill fated wife of Louis X of France. Incredible historical accuracy, attention to detail and high literary form make this novel more than good reading, like all the other in the series. If you can find all seven, by all means, get them!

Marguerite of Burgundy
I am deeply impressed by this book.I really like Marguerite of Burgundy. She is independent woman who is not afraid of her sexuality.Even when she is denounced she keep self-respect and she never said that she made a fault. Some think that she was a whore but it is understandable when you are married such person like Louis X-cruel,dull,ugly,quarrelsome,uncapable to satisfy his wife.I think that she was judged too severely.Isabella, the daughter of Philip IV,exposed and blamed her deed but later she also had a lover. Her husband is supposed to be a gay. Both Marguerite and Isabell have their arguments but Morguerite is supposed to be the fornicatress and is sentensed to death. It is so unfair, life is unfair! We shouldn't judge the other people too strictly!!

The historical succession of the Iron King
Marguerite of Bourgogne having fallen into disgrace is emprisoned in Chateau Gaillard. This (her emprisonment rather then her sentence to death) leaves King Louis X le Hutin (her estranged husband) still married and without a women at is side as well as without an heir to the trone of France (since Jeanne de Navarre is considered by Louis as a bastard). Only one of two solutions to solve this problem: either Marguerite grant annulment to Louis (allowing him to take a wife) or Marguerite dies...
