This book is a useful brief review and compendium of diagnostic neurological information. The paperback version is small enough to carry around or put in a briefcase. The book packs a considerable amount of information into about 400 pages. There are a couple of dozen chapters, organized according to the usual neurological disease categories, and there are a number of nicely done charts and tables that make good, quick references. Keep in mind this book is not intended to be exhaustive and is meant as a quick review or reference. It is intended for practicing physicians, so familiarity with the technical and medical terminology is assumed, and most technical terms are not explained. The book benefits from recent research, and contains up-to-date information on such rapidly changing areas as Alzheimer's. The book has references into Adams and Ropper's larger neurological handbook for those who want more information. Overall a good, concise reference work in neurology.

This is an important albeit not uncontroversial contribution to the field of international political economy. The book tries to answer the question whether the world capitalist system is in crisis and the paths available for future world development. The works are firmly located within the world system thesis expounded by Wallerstein in many of his previous works.

The book intoruduces the concept of 6 vectors within which future paths can be examined. These are the inter-state system; world production; world labour force; human welfare; cohesion of states; and the structures of knowledge.

The book displays the weaknesses inherent in the world system thesis. These include overstating the degree of integration of the economies of the world and thus not taking into account the emergence of "non-states" run either by armed bandits or by organised crime.

The book does not deal adequately with the current state of the state. Given the debate around MNCs and their increasing expansion into areas which were the domain of the state this is an issue needing serious appraisal.

The depiction of this era as being a post US hegemonic era is also an area which will be contested by many writers, not least of all the Fukuyama's of the world.

Wallerstein concludes that the future depends onm how the following factors develop: * the extent to which there is loyalty to citizenship;

* the level of security through police order; the extent to which military orders are maintained; * level of welfare especially in relation to health and food distribution; * stability of religious institutions.

When Maeterlinck was awarded the Nobel prize, this play was singled out for mention as perhaps his masterpiece. It has since fallen into obscurity, but Maeterlinck's experts see it as a pivotal work, marking the transition from his earlier Symbolist plays ( his 'theatre of silence') to his later more conventional ones, with their romantic themes and mellifluous rhetoric. The work stands out for the singular beauty of its style, its rich and subtle psychology, and a sustained note of sensitivity and moral elevation. One of the richest of Maeterlinck's works, the various elements do not, perhaps, coalesce successfully, and the tragic denouement lacks the sheer rightness and inevitability of that of Pelleas and Melisande, Maeterlinkc's most admired play. But it remains one of the works of Maeterlinck most worth exploring, and it rewards repeated re-reading.

I think it was a great book. It really brings the real Shakespeare to life. It is one of the few books I can read again and again.

The actor Maurice Evans penned his story in long-hand in the year before his death. Reading this book is what I always thought having a conversation with him would be like. His regal refined voice sings in your ears as you read the lines!

The book is very detailed on every stage of his life. He writes about the lean years when he was looking for serious work. After he acheives success in the theater, he takes you through every aspect of every stage production he has ever done. He writes extensively on famous personalities with whom he has worked, but remains the gentleman and never has an unkind word for any of them. Yet, you get the idea that he has been very honest. He writes of both good and bad reviews, parts he turned down that he should have taken, and parts he never got offered. He takes you into the less serious work of television that he seems to have enjoyed very much. Lastly, he describes his satisfying retirement.

For theater buffs, it is a great read.

The late, great, Maurice Natanson, himself a student and friend of Alfred Schutz, was told by Schutz, "Maybe you will discover that anonymity and death are the same." This profound thought underlies the entire text, as Natanson explores the causes and effects of anonymity (also called abstraction, typification, alienation, or as Dr. Martin Luther King has called it, "the darkness of nobody-ness").. Natanson reminds us that anonymity is not always a bad thing, but when it is instituted as a system upon unwilling participants, then it becomes problematic.

Also, I would recommend the work of Lewis R. Gordon, who adapts Schutz's and Natanson's theories of anonymity to discuss issues of antiblack racism and Africana thought. Gordon's "Existentia Africana," "Her Majesty's Other Children," and "Fanon and the Crisis of European Man" are suggested.
