Degowin & Degowin's Diagnostic Examination

Physical exam made short and succinct !
DeGowin's Diagnostic Examination is a great book to own - whether you're a medical professional, a medical student, or just simply want to learn the basics of the physical exam. As a first year medical student I have voluminous books which explain the physical exam in detail, yet DeGowin's has been more useful, because it's small enough to carry around in my pocket - yet it's detailed enough to provide all crucial aspects of the routine physical exam. The illustrations which show steps of various exams are simple to follow and better than those found in other clinical skills books I have come across. Furthermore, DeGowin's provides the reader not only with examination proceedures, but describes commonly encountered symptoms and signs of various diseases. And to top it all of there is even a section on "Laboratory values as clues." I highly recommend it for anyone in the medical profession, or to the reader who wants to know in detail what the physical exam should encompass!

How a cat is able to get its owner a great fortune.
This is a children's book based on the legend surrounding Richard Whittington. Whittington, who died in 1423, was mayor of London 1397-1399, 1406-1407, and 1419-1420. He became very prosperous and generous. The legend says that he was a homeless boy who did odd jobs in a house and kept a cat to keep the rats away. But, he had to send the cat off on a trading ship. The cat was sold to a Moorish ruler whose kingdom had been overrun with rats. The cat becomes a noted ratter and the ruler bestows a great treasure on Whittington. (However, the historical Whittington appears to have been the son of a knight of Gloucester). The earliest known appearance of the legend is in 1605. This book was a 1951 Caldecott Honor book (i.e., a runner-up to the Medal winner) for best illustration in a book for children. I've always found it of interest to discover how much children enjoy stories that are based on real people.

The Dream Book by Margaret Wise Brown
A gently rhyming book of the dreams of a rabbit, horse, ...fish, bird,...little boy, little girl etc. And the reiterated reminder "Think of the world as it can seem,
Towards such a world first comes the dream."

The world can become a better place, but first we must dream the dream. A very timely reminder from a book written over 50 years ago

The Philosophy of Ethics meets Criminal Justice
Richard Hall's book provides students, professors, scholars and practitioners an excellent overview of the ethical decisions made within the criminal justice system. If readers take this book seriously, it may cause readers to consider re-engineering the way we approach ethics insofar as how we attempt to teach our law enforcement official how to act. Thie book provides several models of ethics and places these models in various contexts in the criminal justice system. The book is well written and well organized. I believe this book should be read by anybody considering a career in criminal justice or public policy.

A unique and wonderful story
I am so glad to find that this book is still in print! It is one of my favorite stories from childhood. Can't really say what I liked about it specifically but I remember being facinated by the illustrations and being pretty amused with the ending.

Definitely a great gift if you're looking for something outside the typical library of children's books.

Very colorful. Simple, but fun!
My 10 month old daughter LOVES this book! It's illustrated with large, colorful photographs (with simple white backgrounds) and the cover and pages are so far chew-proof.
Lots of options so it really grows with your child. Each number is given a two page spread and within each one it shows the numeric number (7), the written number (seven), and a count TO the number (1 2 3 4 5 6 7). A few pages in the back have counting and match up games for older babies. Lots of fun and my daughter really gets a kick out of the 10 Busy Babies at the end...
