At Last! A reissue of this outstanding book, and most importantly, with the original illustrations! This book cleverly incorporates the concept of color mixing, but the lyrical verse and captivating pictures are what made it a part of our family's fabric. (our 4 adult children are now ages 35-45 and still remember every word) I had about given up ever finding it again. Our family copy, which is well over 30 years old, has been loved to loose paged pieces. This is just in time for our newest two year old grandchild, and I am getting multiple copies, JUST us case it disappears again! Oh wonderful kittens, oh Brush and Hush!

I remember this as one of the books that inspired me to become an artist. The wonderful adventures of the two curious kittens playing with mixed colors has stayed with me since my childhood. I may just buy this book again and remember all the wonderful memories it gave to me.

I can't believe I have finally found this wonderful book again. It was my absolute favorite as a child-I never got over those kittens! I was heartbroken not to have it for my older daughter and so pleased that I am able to get it for my second and third little girls. I am decorating their room by matting and framing the pages and will read it to them as much as they'll let me. Truly, it is a wonderful book for teaching kids about color mixing but the old fashioned illustrations are timeless and just so sweet. I am buying many copies: for us, our daughters' preschool, and to save for my granchildren-in case it ever goes away again. Why Good Night Moon and Run Away Bunny have staying power and the Color Kittens didn't is just beyond me. Buy it!

One of the greatest joys of my life was sitting at the dining room table watching my 7-year-old granddaughter reading The Little Fur Family to my 4-year-old grandson while the two older grandchildren joined in singing the little song. I shall never forget how much love they showed for each other as so beautifully depicted in Margaret Wise Brown's extraordinararily charming little book. There is no other children's book quite like it.

The Little Fur Family is the best of childhood, remembered as wild sights and cozy feelings. To be able to boil the spiritual and emotional experience of raw child-ness down to the essential syrup is the perfection of Margaret Wise Brown. The best comparison would be having to condense a biographical novel to a haiku, and Brown does it in the same seductive style as the sea to draw the eyes, a river to the ears, and a blue sky to the deepest imagination. The story is told through the mind of a little fur child, who lives with his family in the wood. As he travels in his world that day, little wonder that it takes the reader, child or adult, to their own memories. Even though my bookshelves house books by Chomsky, Foucault, and Mahfouz, The Little Fur Family is always my heartfelt favorite. This book is a sweet story without having the backlash of crawling around in the muck of saccharine characters or the rabid commercialism of children's stories that have action figures or theme parks. If this story stimulates your appetite, I also recommend Goodnight Moon, another Margaret Wise Brown classic

Little Fur Family was originally published in 1946. It was written by Margaret Wise Brown (Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny) and illustrated by Garth Williams. The book tells the story of a day in the life of a litle fur bear who lives in his little fur world. The text is told in a rhyming format adored by most young children. Its miniature size appeals to those who are miniature themselves! In addition, you should purchase the copy that has the faux fur cover. It makes the book as sweet and comforting in texture as it does in content. A great stocking stuffer and a wonderful present for any time of the year...Little Fur Family is a sure hit.

As a child I used to check this book out of the libarary EVERYTIME I went. I remember crying one week because the only copy available was the one I was returning and they hadn't put it back on the shelf and I couldn't take it home. My best friend and I would read and re-read this book. We just loved the bunny kicking, rolling, and jumping on the egg and then the same happening to him when he fell asleep and the egg hatched. The bunny and duck became best friends, I met my best friend through reading this book in 1965 and we are still best friends today. I cried when my mom gave me and my friend copies of this book a couple of years ago as a gift.

First of all, I must confess, the 1962 edition of this book was one of my own childhood favorites. The friendship between the bunny and the duck still makes my eyes tear up by the last page. . . and heck, I'm 35! The sweetness and warmth of this story is just classic.

This is a perfect choice for a preschool reader. The adventures repeat; so a kid gets to read similar phrases twice. The beautiful animal drawings will easily charm any child, and the adorable ending will put a little kid happily to sleep, if you use "The Egg Book" as a bedtime story.

I just fervently hope that NO CHILD will EVER have to grow up without the "Egg Book"!

I loved this book as a child and was delighted to see that it's still around. Leonard Weisgard's rich illustrations are wonderful, and I'm still charmed by the story of the bunny and the egg. It's great to be introducing this book to a new generation of nieces and nephews!

This was one of my favorite books when I was a child. I even bought a book to have in reserve BEFORE I got married.

Margaret Wise Brown has put together a rhythmic, engaging story about a bunny that seeks for its own place. As the story progresses there are lessons that can be learned and taught about changes of the seasons, and where animals live and what they do.

I like the pictures, the story, the whole ball of wax. We have read this book over and over to our children. When it resurfaces from the bottom of a stack of books it still gets read through a couple of times -- by popular demand!

Home for a Bunny is a gem, both beautifully written and illustrated. Its gentle rhythm is smooth, great for reading aloud, and reminds one of the journey the bunny is taking: "Down the road and down the road he went. He was going to find a home of his own; a home for a bunny, a home of his own, under a rock, under a stone, under a log, or under the ground. Where would a bunny find a home?" The illustrations are by Garth Williams, lending the story extra beauty and realism. (This same man illustrated the Little House on the Prairie books.)

HFAB is also a rarity in baby books in that it has a recognizable plot, with scenes and dialogue. This gives parents a chance to practice their storytelling skills. I enjoy using different voices for the characters (e.g., a low, low voice for the frog, and a nasal one for the groundhog). Plus, having a plot helps develop the child's ability to follow a sequence of events.

And for the crowning praise--it is my 2-year old's favorite book. As soon as we finish reading it, he asks to hear it again, and again, and again. How can a book get any better than that?

Home for a Bunny should be a part of every child's library. This was the first book I learned to read and 25 years later I am buying it for my new baby girl. The colorful pictures, rhythmic text, and the loveable ending are unforgettable. Home for a Bunny is a classic!

I am six years old and I love Goodnight Moon - it's my favoritebook! My cousin's birthday is soon and he's turning one - I'm gettinghim this! I think this book is good for anybody who loves MargaretWise Brown's books. The bunny is cute and I have the doll that goes with the book. So enjoy Goodnight Moon if you ever buy this book. Your kids will enjoy it!

We don't have fights over bedtime in our house. I credit our routine, of which "Good Night Moon" is a big part. This has been the last book my two-year-old daughter and I have read every night for the last 18 months. The end of this book, "Good night noises everywhere", means it's time to go to bed and it works every time.

The wonderful illustrations allow us plenty of time to point out and name things in the room. And, as the room gets progressively darker, don't be too surprised if your eyelids get heavy along with your child's!

My daughter, Jessica, is now almost 12 years old. But, when she was just the first sparkle in my eye we were given this book. Her very first. Even then, she would have me read it to her over and over again, all the while she was finding the hidden mouse. I believe for sentimental reasons, it is still her most favorite book. Only now, she enjoys reading to me (and I find the mouse).

I bought this book for my son and he absolutely loves it. I bought the paperback version, which he is a little young for. But he carries it with him and loves it when we read it to him. It is a big hit.

The best series I have found for very early readers. The pictures match the text, the sentences are very short, and the words are words children use everyday. I highly recommend this book and others in this series for any early readers out there.

As with every Margaret Wise Brown book I have ever seen; (I own 13 titles now); VERY Kid-friendly. My daughter likes bugs too and is just learning to read. Most pages in this story have 2 - 3 words. Perfect for the early reader!

I have been looking for a copy of this book for years. While visiting my brother recently I discovered that he had the copy that we read over and over again when we were children. It's in poor shape, a testimony to the use it received. He wouldn't part with it, so I am so pleased to find it available again. I'm sure my 2-year old grandson will enjoy this sweet and gentle story as much as I did.

I first discovered this book while teaching Kindergarten several years ago. The story and it's wonderful illistrations struck a chord of wonder and notalgia in me that I had not experienced in a long, long time. Thereafter, it became my favorite storytime book with the children. The book was lost one year to my distress, so you can imagine the joy I felt in finding it here, available to the publc once more. This is a book that should be read and enjoyed by all.

What can anyone say about this tender book. It had an enourmous influence on me as I grew up. I loved the language and the pictures. Today I have sold paintings and some of my writing. And writing poetry comes very very easy to me. This is a book that has made a difference.

"Big Red Barn" is my son's, who is a year and a half, new favorite book.
He adored "good night, moon" which has gone amissing in our house. i didn't even know about this book, and my husband picked it up last week at the bookstore.
After reading and looking at "The Runaway Bunny", I was a little weary of Brown's books aside from "Goodnight, Moon", but this book has made me a fan once again. The illustration here is very good. It's simple and easy on the eyes of our little ones.
I love the way her books are written. She has the certain "beat" to the way the story is told. It's like reading a poem.
It is certainly a great last read of the day to help ease baby's eyes to a sleepy state.
My son loves animals, and recently has been to a farm, so this makes his love for this little story all the more enchanting.
This is good for children who love animals, and it helps them get to know those farm animals even more.
It's one of those books you have to read everyday to your child once you start reading it to them. Brown had the right prescription to help put little ones to sleep...

Goodnight Moon gets all the hype, but I like Big Red Barn even better. This is a simple story about all the animals who live on a farm and the things they do during the day. No humans are anywhere to be found in this tale. The illustrations are simple and sweet. My 8 month old daughter just loves this book! It's very soothing for bedtime, especially because at the end of the story, all the animals go to sleep in the barn. Wonderful!

These are the things that the little ones, like my 21 month old son, should appreciate in a book.
MWB is widely known for the books "Goodnight moon" and "The Runaway Bunny". I didn't even know about this book until I saw that my husband had picked it up at the bookstore. This book is illustrated by a different artist, Felicia Bond, and her work is sweet and uncomplicated. The story has that same rhythm and beat you follow when reading poetry, but it is also gives a peaceful feeling to it's readers(and the ones being read to).
It's a day in the life of kind of story about animals on a farm, while the children are gone. It is a perfect addition to any child's book shelf and makes for a perfect bedtime story with it's calming effect.
I highly recommend buying this for toddlers! If you already have any of Brown's other books, this one will be a welcome addition.

Although these books were first written about 40 years ago they are still fresh and new for each child to discover. The author allows the reader a peek into the world of our children; sweet and endearing. These books now available in board book format for the youngest listeners are the perfect bedtime books to soothe a youngster off to sleep. "Runaway Bunny" assures each child of the parent's unconditional love. Runaway Bunny is just beautiful, the watercolor paintings of a mother and child are fanciful and loving, and seem to come straight from a child's imagination.The theme is especially helpful for clingy children, reassuring them there will always be enough love to sustain them.

The Big Red Barn is simply the most enchanting book of farm animals I have ever seen, with lively colors and a story that intrigues my daughter so much, this is the first book she was content to sit down with and "read" all alone.

I've been reading this book to my son since he was a month old. He absolutely loves this book! It has great pictures and the poem is very catchy--I sometimes recite it to him and he'll look around for the book. He always laughs at the end when the bee "zooms away!"
