Reality: Offred fights and survies
This book deals with many things such as humanity and class but the main thing it deals with is the struuggle for women and how they gain and lose power by their sexuality. Offred has power over the Commander and his wife because she is fertile but her fate lies in their hands so they also have power over her. I really enjoyed this book it was mind boogleing to think that these situations can and do occur in society

A very comprehensive introduction to muslim architecture
I love this book. It gives you a very good insight to muslim architecture and is at the same time easy to read and entertaining. As an orientalist in a postgrad study program I got to read books on the subject that are much more confusing or that are written in a slightly boring style. This book is a thorough introduction that never just stays on the surface of the matter. It does not give you a chronological account of architecture history, but answers a lot of questions like "Why it was built like it was built?" In the back part of the book you find plans and short descriptions of the most important buildings, in the first part you find a lot of good photographs and even better articles on single subjects like materials or building techniques. But the most important thing: It's NEVER boring.

A handy guide book
I have an earlier edition of this book and use it extensively when we travel. On it's own, it's packed with interesting information and trivia. I use it together with AAA guidebooks and find they complement each other nicely. I'm looking forward to getting the latest edition since we found on this last trip up to the redwoods that a few of the restaurants recommended have since changed hands.

Away for the Weekend: Southeast
Anyone living in the Southeast (Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee) will find this travel book to be a practical and useful tool. The author, Eleanor Berman, pairs seasonal activities and local attractions with various locales. For me, this opened my eyes to the many enjoyable short trips my family and I can take without going too far from home. The book contains telephone numbers, driving directions and suggestions for accommodations and restaurants that I likely would never have discovered on my own. My family and I have stayed in several of the book's recommended bed and breakfasts and have been delighted. I keep this book handy to refer to for travel ideas. I reccommend it highly as a thorough and "user friendly" guide to travel in the Southeast.

The daily lives of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt
Beloved Island: Franklin & Eleanor And The Legacy Of Campobello by Jonas Klein is a touching, memorable, biographical portrayal of two genuinely great figures of 20th Century American history. Here presented are the daily lives of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, and how their summer home on Campobello Island influenced them, and rounds out an impressive and painstaking recreation of their personal experiences with anecdotes, personal letters, and the memories of aides, family, and friends. A welcome and much appreciated contribution to the growing library of literature dedicated to the life, thought, and achievements of this politically and socially influential (and often controversial) couple, Beloved Island is an informative and insightful study of the often-hidden inner side of these two remarkable American leaders.

Children learn the principle of enough and sharing.
Children learn to take only what they need when Bessie picks all the blueberries and forgets to leave some for the bears. The bears take matters into their own paws and eat all the blueberries in Bessie's cabin. Bessie gets a bit of a scare and a big blue mess. The illustrations are delightful and the reading is fun.

The right help at last!
So many books are about blindness. At last, I have found one to help my child cope with failing vision. People seem more understanding if you are blind but if you are severaly visually impaired, they don't seem to accept the fact that you have a handicap and they make fun of you.
