A Concise Review of Available Data
I found "Introduction to the Old Testament in Greek" to be a book that contains a wealth of knowledge in regard to manuscript evidence. It is not the quintessential easy reader, but it is great for reference. It provides a very detailed description of almost all of the manuscripts used to establish the Septuagint and those used by current scholarship to translate Old Testament texts.

Sing it, Baby!
The Little Drummer Boy by Ezra Jack Keats is a beautifully illustrated book with the words to the popular Christmas song. Each page contains only one or two lines of the song and so is perfect for younger children. The song is about a little boy who is told to bring a gift for the birth of Jesus, but he replies "Baby Jesus, I am a poor boy, too" and so he plays his drum for him instead. This is a simple story about giving from the heart. Singing the words is a perfect way to interest a reluctant child in books and also perfect to coax reluctant dads (or mums) to sing to their children. The music is written out at the end of the story if you aren't familiar with the tune but it would be easier to listen out for it at Christmas. This book is one the most requested in our household and, of course, we sing it all year long.

A Spiritual Swiss-Army Knife!
One of the earlier contemporary bibles to incorporate the results of scholarly study of the Dead Sea Scrolls (cf.Qumrun) was the Jerusalem Bible, originally published in French. Many gifted scholars and writers participated in an English rendering of the Jerusalem Bible ( J. R. R. Tolkien, for example, did the Book of Job) yet there was criticism of the work because it was a re-translation from the French. The New Jerusalem Bible again worked from the most recent accepted and examined sources available, and was a direct rendering into contemporary English. This pocket edition is pocket size (though a bit thick for the stylish as opposed to the practical pocket) and does fit easily into brief-case or carry-on luggage. For those who have struggled with the omnipresent King James Version often found in hotel rooms, the New Jersulaem Bible is in thoroughly readable contemporary English. Lacking are the extended foot-notes and introductory essays of the full-size version, which can add much to the reader's appreciation of the organization of the text and the background of its writing. Nonetheless, this is a complete Bible, including the generally found Aprocryphal or deutero-canonical books. It might be added that this translation itself is regarded as an authoritative translation of all of its textual portions by the major denominations, despite the lack of agreement on the status of some of the Apocryphal books. For anyone seeking a highly portable and eminently readable complete Bible, this compact volume is the best choice available.

Henry Morris credibly reveals Solomon
Henry Morris, founder of Institute for Creation Research, is amply qualified to comment on any portion of the Bible, and his commentary on Solomon is a real treat. The wisest and richest man who ever lived is recorded in God's Word as explaining the "vanity" of pursuits beyond what God has called us to do. It is a book which every parent should read, to put perspective on what values, exactly, they should be conveying to their children. It is a book for those without children to reinforce the direction in their lives, as they try to reach those who may not have a close relationship with God. Finally, it is a book for anyone who is yearning to make their relationship with God a closer one.

This book is so profound and thought-provoking that I could only read a portion of a chapter at a time. Morris breaks down groups of verses to be commented upon, and in each section there is ample food for thought to keep one's mind and heart busy for an evening.

Enjoy turning the pages slowly in this treasure of a book.

How to be saved...here is the answer
The book of Romans is the essential book of the Bible dealing with salvation through justification by faith (yes, I know the Bible teaches it consistently, but Romans is unbeatable for its clarity). H.A. Ironside addresses the book of Romans and explains each step in its historical and theological context (remember to compare spiritual things with spiritual) and lays out God's plan of soteriology in all of its granduer and glory. This is a foundation book for all new believers. A classic.-Kelly Whiting

Highly recommended reference
I haven't read this from cover to cover. I don't think that is the purpose of the book. I have used this as a reference for my bible readings. I find the info in this book to be extremely helpful. I have a commentary Bible which is helpful but this book goes a step further. I recommend this to anyone who wants to know more about what passages mean. Matthew Henry is the one to read.

Makes my Hall of Fame for Christian Books
I've participated in a small group study of Experiencing God once, and I taught it twice after that. I think this is one of those rare workbooks that in a simple way, captures the deeper truths of God and the Christian life. It is profoundly simple. I've read a lot of Christian books in my time, and there really isn't one like this. It's in a category of its own. You should definitely do it in the context of a small group. Beware though, it is demanding for the average reader. There are daily exercises that can take 20-30 minutes to do. These exercises are chalk full of great wisdom and insight, but for some it is a lot to do. I've read probably a hundred Christian books/workbooks, etc., and this one is definitely in my top 10, if not my top 5. I highly recommend it. If you're a teen, I'd use the teen version. It's great for everybody.

What a beautiful journey with my Lord and Savior!
Are you at a crossroads in your faith journey? Do you feel like there has to be more to the relationship with God than you are experiencing but just don't know how to get there? Then this book can help you pick up from where you are and take your life on a journey with God that will not end until THIS life is over! I took this course with a group that had mixed results. Those of us that were "ripe" for the growth that come about as a result of an in-depth study used this bible study to teach us how to have a continuously growing relationship with God. Yes, there were a couple of things in the book that I didn't agree with, but I have never found a book that I agree with totally except the Bible. Because of this study, I have learned about God's healing love, and now are hungry every day to read and study my Bible, devotionals and other books. I pray and praise God constantly throughout my day. It is so sweet to go to sleep with a prayer on my lips and to wake with a praise song in my heart! I was truly a Type-A personality before this study, and have found such joy and peace in turning my life over to my Lord and Master. This book will not facilitate that, though, you have to be ready in your heart for it. I am allowing God to take my life and do with it as He will instead of wasting it on the ways of this world anymore. My husband and I are beginning a journey in prison ministries that we would have never gone on without this study or something similar to it. We don't know where the journey will take us, but look forward to the day that our God looks at us with love in His eyes, and calls us His "good and faithful servants". If you are ready for this kind of change in your life, this study is an excellent place to start. Have a wonderful journey. Grace and peace to you. Barbara

Looking for a book that will change your life?
This one is it! Next to the Bible, this is the greatest book that I have ever read. This book helps the reader return the the real focus of the Christian Life, experiencing a relationship with Almighty God, learning to hear His voice through the Holy Spirit and learning to recognize the difference between God's voice and our own selfish will. This book is POWERFUL, LIFE-CHANGING, and FULL OF DEEP SPIRITUAL TRUTH! I have seen this book change the direction of several churches and bring REAL revival to the personal lives of many people.
