Gourmet Meals That Will Melt In Your Mouth
Written by a Ph.D.who lost all his teeth due to chemotherapy, I found this book to be uplifting and to provide a postive motivation for me. Having recently lost most of my teeth (and more) from my mouth I had sort of resigned myself to eating only very soft foods or things created in the blender. Fortunately, Ddr. John E. Philpott has for years had an interest in gourmet cooking. This recent book (published in 1999) offers a generous sampling of cleverly named delights ranging from soups and sauces to full-bodied entrees of seafood, poultry and meat. I have just ordered a second copy of this book to give to someone who needs a boost after serious surgery. The cover of this book states: "Over 150 Delicious Reason To Smile". Hopefully others will find at least one reason for them to smile and a tasty one at that.

The Great Tennessee Monkey Trial
Everyone has heard of this trial. However, until I heard this rendition of the trial and play I wasn't as interested. This play sheds new light on it and makes it so much more interesting and actually brought it to life for me.

read this book
This is a very good book - if you are lucky enough to find a copy and wish to read and think about real questions this book may be for you. I feel very grateful to the author for this work.

Charles Upton challenges Robert Bly's interpretation of the Grimm's fairly tale Iron John, an interpretation which had a strong impact on a generation of confused men looking for answers about what it means to be a man. Upton's critique draws from the perspective of the traditionalist school of writers - notably the French metaphysician Rene Guenon - and presents a profound alternative reading of the fairy tale in which the question of what it means to be a man is eclipsed by the greater question of what it means to be truly human.

Upton writes: '...Bly states that his intention is to talk about male initiation alone. My intention is to try and situate this initiation in its greater context, that of the attainment of the fully human state.'

A facinating journey thru the lives of Canadian pioneers
When I received this book, I was unsure of what to expect. To my delight, I was taken on an incredible trip of hardship and nostagia. As a member of the generation X, I have come to respect those who have struggled, so that I may have what I do, just that much more. I was intrigued and awestruck at the resilience, fight, and strength, that was required just to survive - a far cry from our refrigerators, washers, and microwaves... not to mention our cars. A world with out medicare and welfare, where one's support fell to themselves, family members, and neighbors. This book is filled with pictures depicting the lives of these 2 special pioneers and their respective families. This book also contains a quantity of poetry that reflects much of the way of the pioneers - add some politics and love.. and the spice is there. What can I say, I enjoy reading and re-reading it! Historical Atlas of the Ancient World
Published in Hardcover by Friedman/Fairfax Publishing (August, 1901)
Authors: John Haywood, Charles Freeman, Paul Garwood, and Judith Toms
Amazon base price: $9.98
Average review score:

An excellent, readable reference
I have started reading a lot of historical fiction and nonfiction, and have found Haywood's Altas to be very useful. It works well as an introduction, being quite readable and succinct. In addition, it is an excellent reference to use when reading nonfiction tombs that presume we all know where all the Hittites came from, or how the Illyrians migrated to Italy. Just easily finding Zhou, or Thrace on a map has been a big help for me. A good atlas, well worth the reasonably price.

This is a book to treasure
It is said that church history is the laboratory of doctrine; well this account of the first 500 years of the life of the church really proves this to be true. Wand manages to condense 500 years into an instructional yet highly educational read. Both scholar and young Christian will find this book a worthwhile addition to their collection. But be warned though its not for the faint hearted, he does not always paint a rosy picture of the 1st 500 years but shows it for what it is, a struggle for the truth to be preserved!

Although this book is out of date, it is interesing to see how an Advanced Placement English teacher would write an aptitude placement book. John D. Kelly currently teaches at the specialized Bronx High School of Science in New York.

A great introduction to macro/microeconomics!
This book is an easy-to-read introduction to fundamental macro, micro, and international economic theory. The reason the book is so effective is that it is written in dialogue; the "plot" involves a budding manager talking to his father's former college economics professor. By telling otherwise dull theory in a story form, the author effectively enlightens the reader on important economic theory.

This would be a great book to read prior to taking a macroeconomics or microeconomics class!

Fascinating Reading
My husband is a nephew of Jesse Benton's and I read this book out of curiousity, but was very pleased to find it a fascinating read. She was a great lady and important to the history of this county and as well as having many amazing adventures. Although the subject matter could have been dry, Pamela Herr makes it interesting while giving you much historical information. You have a feeling of being in the places and at the time she is describing. You will soon realize that in another time, Jesse Benton would have made a far greater mark on history. This book was more satisfying than many novels I have read and will be passed on to all the young women in our family.
