A clear and readable account of a turbulent period
Elizabeth Makowski has written a superb account of a crucial but little-known Church edict, the 1298 papal decretal of Pope Boniface VIII that is known as "Periculoso" (perilous) after the first word of the document; the decretal ruled on the status of women religious and proved quite controversial. As Makowski shows, the papal ruling was enforced in widely different ways, and sometimes not enforced at all, with both the enforcers and the non-enforcers claiming to have the force of canon law behind their arguments, and leaving many devoted women religious stranded somewhere in between. Makowski's research has clearly been extensive, and her writing is blessedly jargon-free.

A Complete and Modern Study of Marriage Annulment Law
This book is not a "how to" nor a step-by-step guide to getting a Catholic Church annulment. This is a book for those trying to reach a true understanding of the Canons on marriage, as well as the theology that underlies and supports these canons. The result is a beautifully and well-written treatise of the marriage law of the Catholic Church. While writing his book, the author was a renowned professor of Canon Law at the College of St. Patrick in Maynooth, Ireland. And despite fulfillment of this lofty purpose and the impressive credentials of the author, this book is very readable for cleric and layperson alike.
The First of three parts of this book takes each of the canons on marriage and comments on them. These commentary reference numerous sources of authentic Church interpretation, as well as learned studies amassed in the Church intellect in the first fifteen years after the 1983 Code of Canon Law was first promulgated. This author's knowledge and experience seems limitless and his sharing of it all is done in a clear and logical fashion, like a very good class lecture.
Part Two of the book outlines the canons on procedure in marriage annulment cases. This section would be the most helpful for anyone looking for information on the system of petitioning for an annulment. It explains the basis for such procedural aspects as use of experts, when and how. There are forms contained in this book but they are specific to the Tribunals in the Republic of Ireland.
Part Three is where the reader can see how fine a writer this author is. Here he discourses on the role of the family in the Church. His all too short discussion of the Church's position on the Internal Forum is clear, yet leaves one knowledgeable to continue on in his or her own mind.
After writing this book, the author was ordained the Bishop of the Irish Diocese of Dromore. It is refreshing and exciting to know a work of this high caliber was reasoned and crafted by a Bishop himself.

Excellent, excellent, excellent
I like western stories and have read most of the Louis L'Amour books I have come across, as well as most of the Elmore Leonard westerns. The three novellas in this book are easily as good as anything else I've read. The characters are well described and interesting, not the usual cardboard cut-outs found in western novels.
Unfortunately, most of the other Frank Bonham books are currently out of print. I can't wait to see if everything he writes is this good.

Larger Than Life
Dr Branko Mitrovic translates to English the most? published architectural treatise in history. There contains within his book, his typical attention to detail thereby decreasing error and misinterpretaion in the translation.
Beautifully bound and presented, this easy to read 'reference' is uncluttered but comprehensive. It is a book that for accurate proportioning systems alone is essential on any architects' shelf. There no longer needs to be any guessing where classical geometries are concerned. The illustrations are full page elevational detail....very easy to browse and understand.
Like a thesaurus for the poet, this fundamental system of tools is recommended for any architect, whatever their bent.

Fundamental Text on Occult Geometry
This is a remarkable book by a well read and researched freemason which deserves a place in the library of any occutist. The majority of the text consists of a numerical analysis of geometric proportions according to the Qabalah, although it contains others subjects such as ancient rituals, Freemasonry, and god names, as well. The primary thesis of the author is the idea that much of the architechture, art, and religious practices throughout the ages have been permeated by what he refers to as a "canonical law". This Canon is none other than the teachings of the Qabalah, secretly handed down through many traditions and civilizations. According to Stirling it originated in Egypt, where its initiates passed the tradition on to the Greeks from which it spread to the Hebrew and Christian religious systems. The Canon will likely assist you in the creation of your magical tools and the study of their proportions along with other common occult symbols. Aleister Crowley highly recommended it in his Book Four as a comprehensive resource for studying the symbolism associated with the Altar prior to undertaking its construction. It also recieved critical acclaim from J.F.C. Fuller in THE EQUINOX.

Outstanding! The civil war comes alive before your eyes!
The illustrations along with the riveting content make this book, in my opinion a must for all children. The civil war is made to come alive right before a childs eyes and captures the very essence of this period of American History. My children loved the book and has sparked a further interest in Lincoln, other wars involving the United States, and a general interest in how our nation was formed. Thank you to the author for bringing a father and his children together that allows me to share valuable time together that I will cherish forever.

Best translation of a complete medieval canonical text.
As modern secular scholars continue to discover the untapped riches preserved in the texts and treatises of medieval canon law, most of them immediately confront the problem of working in Latin, especially juridic Latin. Gilchrist, an historian of immense credentials, chose wisely in translating the "Collection in 74 Titles" which is one of the earliest, most influential, and (from the point of view of readability) one of the most manageable legal texts available. Gilchrist's introduction and indexes along with the generally handsome production values make this the kind of work which one can simply sit down and enjoy, even if one approaches it with only the vaguest familiarity with the topics. In brief, a fascinating look into the life and values of Europe and the Church as both first emerged from several centuries of turmoil following the collapse of Rome.
