Eyewitness account in Upper Mt. Bethel
I would like to explain an eyewitness account concerning the "farmer ghost" on ridge road in Upper Mt. Bethel. It was late one night, about a month ago, and three of my friends and i were bringing a friend home. We were driving along back roads and we turned down ridge road. as our headlights reflected off of a metal wire fence, a glimpse of an old man caught our eye. We all asked eachother what it was, but no one seemed to have an answer. My friend turned his car around about 10-15 ft. down the road and we came back to the fence...and he was gone. So, then, we decided to go back the way we were going and we passed it again, and there he was- smiling and waving as we drove by. By this time, my friends and i had been convinced that we had all seen a ghost! And of course, being the courageous and curious teenagers that we are, we went back again! This time, he wasn't there, but the last time we turned around, not only was he there, but this time he was bent over the fence with his face pointed toward the ground. i was the only one out of my friends who saw him in this position. Now, this is how i learned about the story in this book- I came home, and my mom started telling me about this ghost story in your book. she asked me where i had seen the ghost, and i replied, "Ridge Road." She then proceeded to explain the legend of the ghost, that's when i knew it was the same ghost i had seen.

Adequate reading for Lehigh Valley ghost & spirit buffs.
This book did disappoint me. It covered a wide range of the Lehigh Valley from the Slate Belt to Alburtis. However, the book relied heavily on folklore and second-hand stories rather then eyewitness accounts. On the other hand, the authors did povide pictures and competent discriptions of the sites and the locations.

Paranormal researcher
I am a paranormal researcher from the Lehigh Valley. I recommend this book to anyone who has the urge to explore the unknown. I was delighted to see photos of actual occurances and descriptions of locations near my home. Although there are not a lot of eye-witness accounts included in the book, having lived here most of my life, I know how closed-mouthed the locals here are. However, I have personally researched several of the locations found in this book and have seen some interesting things myself.

Useful to hold up an air-conditioner
This book is really disappointing. While it looks massive, and weighs a ton, MUSIC HOUND's WORLD is missing so many essential figures. Look at Brazil, they have a section on DAUDE (a relatively minor artist), but have NOTHING on giants of Samba such as PAULINHO DA VIOLA and MARTINHO DA VILA. ANNA VISSI (Greece), VLADIMIR VYSOTSKY (Russia), and countless others are omitted, while an equal number of bizarre names such as VINX are here. They seem more interested in people like Linda Ronstadt and Shakira's contribution to world music that actually putting together a guide about the movers and shakers. Even the bios that they do feature are for the most part, re-hashed press releases. This guide is useless, and a waste of paper.

Sniffing the world music trail !
Marvellous, thorough, enjoyable, and resourceful book. It's indispensable from a world music fan's point of view, plus I use it for my work in music and media.

disappointing
I was hoping for a factual/investigative account of the tragedy of the Atlanta child murders. Instead, this book seemed to be an essay written on the problems of racial injustice and ignorance in Atlanta, America, and the world. Nothing wrong with that, but then I take into account that the essay was written in a most meandering and disjointed fashion, full of incomprehensible references, with an overwhelming tone of arrogance. Baldwin is right, everyone else is wrong and to blame. Not persuasive, just a waste of time.

Can People of Color Be that Cruel...?
This is a difficult read because Baldwin's thoughts come across like a man too perplexed to ask "Why?". And so there are many crosscurrent thoughts, parentheticals that are not in parenthesis, and sheer rage. The question: who could be murdering the children in Atlanta? And has the years of systematic oppression and racism made it possible for a black man to be become that cruel? Has the oppressed become the oppressor?

And I can understand Baldwin's great perplexity...he wants to point the finger at the American way of life. How years and years of being considered not human has affected the mindset of the average person of color. And of having to come through identity crises, legal crises, social crises to be confronted with who...? A person who is this insane enough to be killing innocent kids? Why have we struggled so much, Baldwin seems to be asking, to create this monster?

And so, it is another probing we received from the always philosophical, questioning, always provocative Baldwin.

Why read the book now? Well, although this murderer has been found and given punishment based on the fullest extent of the law, the questions remains.

How have we come to this?

Finally a book on Gods
I was both impressed and disappointed with this book. It was nice to see a book covering Gods instead of Goddesses for a change. It covered a wide variety of Gods From Indian to Kabbala. However, I was disappointed in what seems to be several inaccuracies in this book. In a day where it is hard to find a book on Gods this book is a go. For anyone wanting more in depth study, keep looking. This is a good beginner book.

Half scholarly dissertation, half Bullfinch's Mythology
I first found this book while searching for literature that dealt with Neo Paganism and the male divine, an area much too often overlooked by the more feminist camp of this faith. The book itself is not written with a Neopagan slant, and I sincerely doubt that the authors are Pagans in any way, but this book, and its companion, are essential reading for Neopagans. From its opening line-God was born sometime in the Paleolithic age-the reader knows that the authors mean to approach their subject through academic methods, but they are respectful, thoughtful and deeply spiritual, even as they maintain their scholarly distance. The book ends with the Big Bang, and if you cannot imagine why the Big Bang would be related to God, you absolutely need to read this book. I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to read, each theoretical explanation was followed by one or more short retellings of the corresponding myths, making the book flow wonderfully and providing all the evidence needed to support the author's arguments without getting overly technical. At the same time, the brief refreshers in mythology allow the reader to consider this biography of the God concept with a critical and informed mind. Overall, it is a beautiful book for people of all faiths, even science, and I recommend it wholeheartedly.

Comprehensive, but way to basic
Although this book does cover numerous topics, the information provided is common sense "fluff" and not detailed at all. If you have never consulted before, this might be a good source of information; however, if you are currently a consultant considering the leap to independence, this book will be of little value to you. I don't feel it was worth the [$].

Excellent guide for Independent Consultants
David Kintler and Bob Adams have laid out a great plan to becoming an independent consultant, no matter what field you are in. It is a guided step through the beginning stages to a finished corporation with samples of legal paperwork, business letters, etc. Extremely comprehensive.

A true public disservice
Let's get one thing out of the way. The Princeton Review is a successful company that helps thousands of students every year to score higher on tests like the LSAT. HOWEVER, in seeking to make a quick buck by leveraging its name brand with hastily thrown together, innaccurate and cynical books like this one, the company seriously imperils its own good name.

Clearly, there is no substitute for visiting a school to decide whether or not to attend. But for many applicants, that is simply not an option. Knowing this, the Princeton Review paid someone to whip together an "inside" guide to the law schools. They must have either paid poorly, or not paid attention: not only is this book chock full of factual errors, it relies on a very lazy, and perhaps even unethical methodology. After sending surveys to students at the law schools, the Princeton Review author pulls a few quotes from the few responses he managed to cull, and writes around them as quickly and cautiously as he knows how.

Nowhere in this book will you find substantive or even detailed information about life at one of these law schools--such as how the specific strengths and weaknesses of faculty; structure of the first-year curriculum; residential life situation, etc. But you will find comical lists of statistics such as "hours of study per night," as if the responses of .2% of a student body could provide anything resembling fair representations worthy of standing as a comparative figure in examining various programs.

Helpful, but slightly outdated
This book gives information on how students rate the teaching, community feeling, student body, faculty and more aspects of the different schools. It also gives starting salaries and more helpful information for making a decision. However, since it was published in 2000, its statistics are somewhat outdated. There you get more, and more accurate information. So go to the magazine section or to usnews.com and spend your $ on "The Best Graduate Schools" issue of U.S. News and World Report.

Good book, but question the accuracy
I love that the book provides narrative information of schools, but I would not rely soley on this book. I would use it with the LSAD-CD to give me my chance of being admitted and I would even use the USNEWS or the New Educational Quality rank to give me more information. While I agree that it is important to visit a school and talk with students and professors, this book gives a quick impression that can help add schools to a prospective students list. I would not cross a school off my list because it didn't receive a good Princeton Review, though. Also I thought the "Hits and Misses" were kind of silly.

Informative, but not great
This book is a little disappointing as it has a number of photos which do not seem directly relevent to the subject. Why for example are chess pieces used as examples of soldiers's uniforms as they are very stylised? Or take the clothing in Russian museum collections. The text is good like most of the work of this author which I have read and the illustrations of the many Islamic and Non-Islamic soldiers who fought for the Caliphates are well executed.

There should be more on the strategy and tactics
The book is excellent enough for an introduction to the inquiry for it is done by the leading and creative researcher on the much neglected field. Although limited by the size, not enough emphasizing was written into the strategy and tactics unique to the armies of the Islamic Caliphates. They were arguably the offseting balance that gave the Arabs serious advantage over the much heavier armored Byzantines, Persians, or even the Franks later during the crusades. A must for beginners, but not enough for the scholarly.

Chevy/GMC truck: Parts and Locating Guide
I was real surprised when I received my delivery. Instead of getting a book, I received a poor photocopy of parts ads, dealer lists and covers of parts catalogs. I am not kidding when I describe it as a photocopy held together with a plastic ring binding that most offices stopped using years ago.

Once I was past the amateur publishing and looked at the contents of the "book", I notice that many of the ads were the same ones that I saved back issues of car and truck magazines for. This "book" is mostly made up of pages listing dealers for parts or services, but with the internet and a few truck magizines, I could easily find most of the products.

This purchase is going back for a refund. Its not worth the paper its photocopied on.

Don't Judge a Book by it's Cover...
Quite the contrary, I found this book extremely helpful. As the worn-out saying goes, "Don't judge a book by it's cover", and this is a prime example. This gave me the perfect excuse to throw away all of my yellowing old Chevy Mags, clippings, and little scraps of paper because every person I'd ever needed to restore my Chevy Truck was included in this book. The listings for the companies included addresses, phone numbers (a lot of them even had 1-800 numbers so it wouldn't cost me a dime to call them), fax numbers, as well as websites and email addresses.

On top of everything, it was super easy to look up the parts I was looking for. For example, I needed a grille for my truck. All I had to do was flip to the "Trim Parts" section of the book, looked alphabetically for "Grille" and low and behold, there were at least 6-7 parts places listed that had grilles. Moreover, I went ahead and contacted most of them, found the cheapest price, and went with them. I saved hours and hours of wasted time, calling places that I rather "hoped" would have the parts I was looking for. With this book, instead of "hoping", I now "know" exactly who has the parts I'm looking for. My aggravation level has dropped from 10 to 1 and 1/2.

Admittedly, I had my reservations because of the previous review. However, when I received my book, I realized one thing: I bought this book for the information listed inside, not really for what it looked like. Knowledge is key and now that I have knowledge of the information inside the book, I know that I can fix up any classic Chevy Truck I come across in the future with ease. Kudos!

The Church and the Left

A book written by a communist A.Szechter vel Michnik.
Adam Szechter vel Michnik - an ateist and communist with international ties, former member of Communist Party (PZPR), son of Helena and Ozjasz Szechter (both communists). Anti-Polish as his father Ozjasz who was a Soviet spy and collaborator and enemy of Poles. *source of information: Polish history book "Rzady Zbirow 1940-1990" by H.Pajak, S.Zochowski, 1996 edition

for the record...
I am sure that people who searched for this title are familiar with the author and know at least something about the book. Thus, they will simply disregard the other "review" so full of invectives and right wing propaganda. However, there may be a person or two to whom Adam Michnik and his work are foreign. They should know that Adam Michnik is a well-known and respected historian, essayist, and journalist. He has spent most of his early adult life in active opposition to the communist regime in Poland (a great deal of it in communists prisons). He contributed greatly to the collapse of communism. After the changes and a short stint as a deputy to Poland's parliament, he devoted his time to the largest Polish newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza which he helped to establish and now is its editor-in-chief. One can find much more on Adam Michnik by simply entering his name in just about any search engine (e.g., Google).

As for the book, having read it a long time ago, I may not be the most qualified to critique the work. It seems that after the collapse of communism the book would have mostly a historical significance. It does talk about the uneasy but important alliance of the Left and the Catholic Church in Poland during the communist years. And yet, it could also help to explain the present ideological and political divisions in Poland. I would suggest reading it (if one is interested in Polish affairs and anticommunist movement). But even more so I would recommend Letters from Prison and Letters from Freedom (especially the second one).

accessible prose? nope.
Disappointing. I bought this book for its "accessible prose" as advertised in the publisher's description, but found it almost impossible to read. I want a book about Saint Aidan, or any other Saint for that matter, that is written in plain English. The kind of English a coal miner could comprehend.

A Clear painting of St. Aidan
A good book. David Adams gives us a good book on the spirituality of St. Aidan and very practical ways to apply it to our lives. He writes in a very nice way, a way that even my Ukrainian wife found easy to understand. I recomend it as a book that takes a great historical and spiritual man like Aidan and applies his life to ours. It is simple and stright forward, a good introduction to Aidan and his times. This is a good contemplative book.
