The Chiropractic Way is the Key to Health
As a Chiropractor, I have read dozens of books on the subject over the years. The Chiropractic Way by Michael Lenarz, D.C. is one of the finest books on what we do and why we do it. But more than that it gives real life, common sense advice for our patients written in a manner which is concise and easy to follow. Dr. Lenarz thoroughly covers a variety of chiropractic techniques and philosophies and explains his viewpoints without a defensive or apologetic posture. This is a must read not only for chiropractors and our patients, but for anyone who is suffering from poor health and wants to once again reclaim their health. I'll be ordering extra copies for my reception room and to give to patients.

Good work Dr. Lenarz!!!

Finally...all you need to know about chiropractic care
I strongly recommend "The Chirpractic Way" to anyone interested in understanding how their body operates on a daily basis and why there might be aches and pains along the way. The book is written in a way that is easily understandable to readers about how chiropractic care can promote wellness in the body - without surgery. The book covers the questions I had relating to chiropractic care. I have watched friends through the years who have been in pain and I always felt unable to articulate why chiropractic care works for me - now I can tell them about this book. THIS BOOK EXPLAINS YOUR BODY!

Want better health? Read this book
I like to consider myself well educated about health and how the body works. This book has a straight forward layout that is readable by all, and is extremely helpful to anyone seeking a better quality of life and answers to health problems. I have personaly found the book to be very helpful and I have given several copies to friends who have health challenges. Reading this book will change your life for the better; it's already helped several of my friends.

Flowers and Bushes
I truly enjoyed this book as it unfolds a story that deals with what one would think is the "afterlife". This is centered around a garden that has been maintained throughout the life time of the author. From one flower comes either a scent or a color that represents something that has occurred in life, either good or bad. There are bushes and trees that have been chosen to show how a behavoir, belief, word, act or deed was dealt with while on earth.

The most signficant memory I have is that we have been given everything we need to be successful here on earth. It is how we chose to use each gift that we have which determines our "afterlife". God gave us our "will" and by doing so we have "choices". We need to be conscience everyday of the choices we make. ...because it may bring up a foul smelling flower or discolored bush or tree. Reading this book allowed me to reflect on my "limitations" and see why I must do all I can to do His "will".

Enriching to the soul
I purchased this book because of the beautiful, eye appealing cover. The purchase was made two week after a life threatening heart infection. This book along with that experience has help me realize what is really important in this life. It was used of God to heal old wounds and renew my relationship with Him. Reading this book will be one of the most memorable times in my spiritual walk. It is wonderful. A must to read. njk.

Makes you think twice about the small decisions we make.
This book is very inspirational. It points out that God gave us our 'self' and we must take care of our 'self' because some day we are going to be givng our self back to Him. And every decision we make, even the smallest, most unimportant decision makes up what and who we become and is what we present to God when he calls us home. This book is very well written and easy to read, but really makes the reader stop and think. It is a very powerful, thought provoking book and one that I will be reading over and over again.

Marnie
Published in Hardcover by Buccaneer Books (1993)
Authors: Winston Graham and Michael George
Amazon base price: $15.37
List price: $21.95 (that's 30% off!)
Average review score:

A compelling and cleverly-written story.
A fan of Hitchcock's adaptation of "Marnie," I decided to get the book from the library, and I was very pleasantly surprised. George writes in the first person, and it is extremely insightful to be able to delve into the workings of Marnie's mind; her extreme emotional detachment, which has served to protect her from dealing with a long-buried, horrible memory and an imbalanced, mysterious mother; her ability to create different personalities to accompany her various aliases as a way of dealing with the moral dilemma engendered by her penchant for kleptomania; her deep-rooted, seemingly inexplicable fear of intimacy.

Winston's writing style was quite clever: The story is gripping and tumultuous, yet presented in a cool and practical manner through Marnie's voice, just as Marnie, herself, seems cool and methodical but brims with overwhelming pain and confusion beneath the surface.

Though there are some marked differences between the book and movie, they are quite similar in what I believe are the most important and interesting aspects of the story; namely, a woman rendered incapable (by suppression) of "natural" feelings due to a traumatic childhood event is able to meet and conquer her demons through the love of a patient and caring man.

I do heartily recommend the book as well as the movie.

Very Good Read
I really enjoyed this book - much more than the movie. It takes a look at a woman with a past, a tramatic childhood; and how she overcomes it, despite herself. Hitchcock showed Marnie's false reality very well in the movie, but the script and Tippi Headren couldn't do the character justice.

Woman regains normalcy when childhood trauma is confronted.
Although the film version did not follow the storyline, this story well-defines the "burial" of a childhood traum and warps the thinking and actions of an adult woman. Alfred Hitchcock was the director of the film version which starred Sean Connery and Tippi Hedron. With the help of her husband, Marnie is forced to revisit her mother and, in doing so, discovers what it is that has so terrified her. Again, with the help of her husband, she is able to adjust her life and live as a well-adjusted human being.. Graham's story has been out of publication for a number of years. After checking with many sources, including Buccaneer Books in New York, I have discovered that this book is out of print. They would have to check with the Graham estate to get permission to re-publish it. I am hoping that SOMEone may have a good copy (either paperback or hardcover) that they are not looking to gouge in pricing. Anyone out there who fits this description? I do not have an email address, however, you can contact me at 414-545-3933 or write to 9849 W. Beloit Road, Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53227-4234. Thank you. Bev Bayliss Heipp

wonderful new journal
The inclusion of an audio CD with the poets reading their own work adds a valuable new dimension to this complex and rewarding selection of poems. Each poem in this innovative new journal stands up to multiple reads and strict scrutiny. The poems are smart and rich and painfully true, and the CD allows you to hear to poets intended music. Bravo!

wonderful new journal
The multi-media approach this journal takes with its audio CD is the perfect compliment to the inventive, well-crafted and painfully true poetry found inside.

Impressive! The poetry is magical and wonderful.
Probably one of the most unique journals I have ever read--anywhere. Where did it come from? The poetry is very well written and musical. There was something very different about this magazine from the moment I picked it up--something special. And listening to the poets read their work on the CD while I followed along in the book was delightful. Their poems came alive!

If you're wearing a hat, hold on!!!
Because Mr. Kohl will blow you away!!!! This is a fine book. The research is impeccable. The photos are sublime. Kudos to the author!!! I saw Mr. Kohl give the commencement address at the University of Chicago and the crowd was mesmerized. Most likely, because he hadn't been invited by the school to give it.

Thumbs up for a fine job
Leonard Kohl's first book is a fine effort, a splendid purchase for any fan of the big three horror icons who made serials. It is loaded with interesting facts. Where else could you discover that silent comedy star Harry Langdon almost co-starred with Lugosi in THE WHISPERING SHADOW. The book is chock full of rare photos, and they are a genuine treat. Fans of Charle Chan would be happy to find rare photos of Warner Oland from silent serials. This volume is a recommended purchase. As an author myself, I can see the hard work and dedication that went ito this volume.

A great read, and handy reference, for movie buffs
Kudos to Kohl, who has done a fine job in presenting an informative, and always fair-handed, look at a fascinating period in movie-making. This is clearly the product of pains-taking research, resulting in a heaping-helping of historical data, elucidating testimonials, with a rich array of pictures to boot. No true fan of "the screamsome threesome"--Karloff, Lugosi, and Chaney--and the too-often overlooked serials gentre, should miss this.

George MacDonald's best!
I have read other books by George MacDonald, some of which were translted by Micheal Philips, and this one is by far the best, though they are all great! Micheal Philips translates George MacDonald best out of the translaters that I have come across. George is the best author I've ever came across.

duplicate book
This book is the exact same book (same editor, even same forward) as 'The Maiden's Bequest'.

Civility Rules!
I was most impressed by the tone of the book. I expected a "stuffy" list of do's and don'ts only to find each of George Washington's rules of civility applied to today's social and business situations with great insight and a touch of humor. I was amazed to learn that the civil behavior we learned from our parents and teachers is based on the same rules of civility that George Washington lived by 250 years ago. Some things are truly timeless. We could all use a refresher course. I highly recommend By George!

We can still learn a lesson By George!
By George! is a delightful and insightful compilation of George Washington's rules of civility, written when he was only 14 years old. The author does an outstanding job of adapting these basic rules of good conduct, written in the 1740's, to current society. These rules, illustrated by timely stories of people doing the right thing, not only help us understand the high standards George Washington expected of himself and others, they are a timeless treasure trove. In a world torn apart by violence and hatred, this little book teaches us that a little civility can make a big difference in our lives. I highly recommend By George! by Steven M. Selzer.

Good read
It took me quite awhile to get through this book only because it was very thought provoking. I would read a small section and then sit and reflect on it. Even though I disagreed on a few issues, it was worth the read to reflect on another opinion and solidify my own. I feel I drew closer to God. Having read the poems introducing the chapters, I now want to read other MacDonald poems. I also liked the connections at the end of each chapter to MacDonald's fiction.

POSSIBLE ALTERNATE TITLE - "DISCOVERING THE PRESENCE OF GOD"
HAVE YOU EVER LISTENED TO SOMEONE PRAY AND ACTUALLY "FELT" AS IF GOD WAS STANDING RIGHT THERE LISTENING?

THAT'S THE WAY I FEEL WHEN I READ THIS BOOK - IT'S ALMOST AS IF GOD IS TURNING THE PAGES.

THIS IS NOT LIGHT READING, NOR IS IT FILLED WITH CLICHES. FOR THE READER WHO WANTS IN-DEPTH REALITY ON THE PERSON OF GOD INTERSPERSED WITH SOME OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL POETRY IMAGINABLE, THIS IS ON MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE LIST. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR!

An Excellent Introduction to Environmental Philosophy
Regardless of whether you are interested in deep ecology, animal rights, envirnmental ethics,eco-feminism or political ecology, this excellently edited edition will have something of interest for you. Those who are looking for a more scientific approach to examing our relationship with nature, as oppossed to the more philosophical writings of Muir, Thoreau and Abbey, this book will be especially appreciated.
Published primarily for use in environmetal philosophy/science courses at the university level, this book is very useful in providing a well researched, diversen sampling from some of the most important theorists in the field. Essays by J. Baird Calicott, Tom Regan, author of the revolutionary work "The Case Animal Rights", Holmes Rolston III, author of the seminal text "Environmetal Ethics", the Norweigan philosopher Arne Naess and , the so-called founder of the deep Ecology movement, Aldo Leopold, author of the famous "Sand County Almanac", as well as works by other important scholars such as George Sessions, Warick Fox, the famous eco-feminist historian Carolyn Merchant, John Clark and Gary Snyder along with many others.
Although the essays contianed in this text can be challenging at times, in the end the payoff definitely makes it worth the effort. This difficulty is, at least, in part due to the fact that what this book requires is a new way of examining our relationship with nature and a willingness to examine problems from a more holistic perspective, which can sometimes be a hard thing for those taught that the world is here simply for man's exploitation (gender specificity intended). This volume is particularly effective in giving students a well-rounded introduction to many of the most important issues in environmental writing today. As the seriousness of our ecological problems persist and even worsen, this book will continue to be a highly informative source of information for students and instructors for years to come.

Excellent Reader!
I'm convinced this is the best way to learn about Environmental Philosophy! While some sections are difficult and can bog you down, most are clear and well-written.

I'd recommend this book as both a teaching tool and as something you can pick up to learn on your own. It's more difficult than most pleasure reading but the subject is particurarily heavy.

This kind of education is essential to the environmentalist or someone trying to understand the movement.
