A meaningful, well-crafted book of poems!
This short collection of writings by Jim Young has me thinking that I too can be a poet! There is something infectuous about Youngs' short, impactual, unsentimental verse. I opened the book with my coffee in the morning and didn't set it back down until I'd read every page two hours later. What a beautiful introduction written by the editor describing his love and friendship with the author.

This book would be excellent as a classroom text for an American poetry class. Young makes it look easy and fun without sacrificing his style and voice. How I would like to sit and share a cup of coffee with Jim Young.

Perfect Combination of Personal and Invention Details
This book is a must read for students (and teachers). Each short chapter describes different black inventors (men and women). The easy to follow writing will keep a student interested with its combination of personal information, facts about their inventions and facts about issues related to that time period. Find answers to the time period in which blacks were not even allowed to receive patents, which black inventors worked with Thomas Edison and why George Washington Carver never saw his mother again.

A beautifully illustrated introduction to a great poet
Editor Jonathan Levin and illustrator Jim Burke have put together a wonderful introduction to the poetry of Walt Whitman. Although marketed as a children's book, this volume will also appeal to older admirers of the "Good Gray Poet."

Levin has judiciously selected some of Whitman's most memorable poems, and thoughtfully gives definitions of potentially unfamiliar words ("Pleiades," "hieroglyphic," etc.) at the bottom of each page. A five page biography of Whitman at the start of the book is another useful touch. Many of Burke's full-color visuals are stunning, and stand on their own as admirable pieces of art. Particularly memorable are the illustrations which accompany Whitman's address to a locomotive and his compassionate description of a slave's body at auction. "Walt Whitman: Poetry for Young People" is a fine book to share with its target audience.

A superior reference for anyone involved in Youth Ministry !
Of the thousands of references I've used during my ten years in youth ministry, Quick Studies, "Acts & Romans" would have to be the best. It is always effective. The questions that are asked to support each chapter are intellectually stimulating as well as age appropriate. So often, youth ministry resources that claim to be for high schoolers are better suited for junior high children. Not so with this wonderfully researched Bible Study. Getting kids to enthusiastically focus on Romans used to be like pulling teeth, but the authors of this reference hit the mark. Alot of the 'Opening Acts' are less than adequate, subsequently I rarely use them. The questions are excellent. Adults are asking to join my high school class, and a major reason is because of the resources I use, such as this one. Tom Van Wyen : Youth Director - Willow Street Mennonite Church

a great book for teen soccer coach
This book is very good for coaches. It got excellent progressive drills to get a team to function like a well oiled machine for attacking and mid field play. I think the strong point for this book is the way it builds up a young team to attack the near post with sharp passes, strong midfield controll drills, etc. The drills for bringing in the backs for attacking play is decent. While the style is very Euro, the drills will sharpen any team to dominate the midfield. very good coaching book among the many out there.

Hey, baby, let's rock!
Bop-bap-a-loopa-a-bop-bam-boom. You haven't rocked ALL the way around the clock until you've read this collection of rock and roll poetry by exceptional writers from across the nation. Get all shook up with Elvis or howl with Dylan. Trot down Memory Lane through vignettes of musicians living the good life or relive the heartbreak of rockers who left us too young and too soon. The music is in the words and in the memories that are crafted by these many artists, crafted in tones of reverence, of playfulness, and, mainly, of love for American rock and roll. This is a one-of-a-kind collection that should be part of everyone's library. It also makes a terrific collection for use in the classroom
