Touching Story!

This book was one of the best I've ever read!
Cheryl Lanham made the characters seem so real , as if I knew Gabriel, and Polly, and Leeanne.
You experience all emotions in this book-this is not just a sad story, there are a ton of parts that make you want to laugh or smile.
The book is really moving and I hope you'll take the time to read it!!

I loved this book!

Great Book!
I absolutely love this book! It will be my all time favorite book forever and I recommend reading it, anyone! I've read it three times, my sister has read it twice and my mom has even read it. I love it and if anyone has any doubts, just listen to me, it's great. This is a must read and I think it outdoes all her other books.

Fourteen and Dying
This novel is about one of many tribulations that Dawn Rochelle has to face during her cancer treatments. Fourteen year old, Dawn Rochelle, was in remission from cancer, but one day when she went to the hospital for a check up she finds out that her cancer is back. She dreams of living a normal life with out being sick all the time. Her brother, Rob, and her parents are so supportive and care deeply for her. Dawn's remission period and the challenges she faces in handling a bone marrow transplant from her brother. Even with the transplant she has only a 50% chance of the surgery curing her. As the book continues it tells that Dawn started getting infections, but luckily Rob's bone marrow was fighting it. At the end Dawn stops breathing, they go in and reviving her. She later is talking to her brother about wanting to live to see her next birthday.

This book was a wounder to read. It was a page turner and I couldn't put it down. Lurlene McDaniel writes her books to make you feel as if you are really there. She also makes the places seem so real. She has a way of making the charters seem like they are acting it out right in front of you. All the books I have read have been great.

Close to Death
A Review by Laura
This story is about a girl named Dawn, with cancer. She wants to live a normal life with out being treated like she is sick all the time. For a while her cancer was in remission, but one day when she went to the hospital for a check up she finds out that her cancer is back.

I really liked this book because I can kind of understand how Dawn feels being a teenager and all. She has to face a lot of different challenges since she has cancer. I also understand how her brother Rob felt and how he had to deal with Dawns cancer. I also thought that Darcy was very selfish in thinking only about her wedding instead of caring about dawn.

I really think people should read this book because it is really good and it kind of made me think a little more about people with cancer or any thing else, and also understand what they have to go through.

This Can Bring a Tear to Your Eye!
You will fall in love with Lurlene McDaniel's, I want to Live. Dawn's courage and will to live is remarkable. The suspence of this book wont let you put it down. So many outstandingly explained and presented emotions are found throughout the book that you will cringe when you read into the details.
After Dawn is diagnosed with a relapse of cancer she takes life more seriously, accepting more responibilities and takes on even more challenges. Her life stands upon her brothers choice to give his bone marrow to her, which would jeopardize his engagedment and also put him in the hospital along with her. Will Rob give the marrow? If so, will Dawn's body accept it or will it be rejected? Find out by reading it now.

The Changeover: A Supernatural Romance

Average review score:

Yeah, it's the prefects you need to watch out for!
Margaret Mahy's book is an unusual take on the juvenile magic-user theme. It takes place in New Zealand, in a single-parent home. Laura Chant lives with her divorced mother, and her toddler brother. Nothing is entirely reliable in Laura's world, certainly not her slightly flaky mother, their extremely flaky car, and especially the surrounding landscape, being transformed from forest and farm into a new subdivision.

Chant, perfectly named, can sense things that others can't. She can sense that her brother's rapid descent into illness is supernatural, and that it is linked to the boy's unfortunate contact with the also perfectly named Carmody Braque. She also can sense that the mysterious prefect at her school, an older boy named Sorensen Carlisle, is a "witch" and that he may hold the only key to healing her brother.

Sorry, as he's called, is one of those magnificent characters, the enigmatic boy who shows all the signs of being a proto-romance hero. But here, he's young, sly, and not above using his advantage over Laura. Mahy writes Laura as a strong character, and watching her handle Sorry is a lot of fun.

This novel is full of brooding atmosphere but with a great contemporary setting. Mahy's protagonist carries her weight, but everyone else is equally nuanced and fascinating. The book calls itself a romance, but I've never read an adult romance filled with such menacing ambiguity.

Brilliantly and sensitively written
It has been said that the true test of an author's success is the number of times his/her reader rereads the book written. If that is the case, then Margaret Mahy is a most successful writer. To be able to continue to lure readers, both new and old, to read and reread a book, starting from the first reading at 10, then again when the shelves are cleared and the book rediscovered at 14, and then again at 18, and so on...and for the reader to still be enchanted by the same characters doing the same thing, saying the same lines over and over again...The Changeover really does 'change you over' into Mahy's private world, where nothing matters except for Laura Chant, her quest to save her darling brother Jacko, and of course, not forgetting the peek-a-boo relationship she has with Sorry Carlisle, which makes the relationship all the more sensual, in a non-sexual way. Read it...and read it again.

Amazing book
I first read this book years ago and cannot forget it. The authors portrayal of the supernatural weaving it's way into everyday life is wonderful and seems so realistic. Her characters are amazing too. There is nothing superficial about these people or this book. I will be reading this book over and over, likely for the rest of my life.

the most enduring of all sf stories.
I started reading science fiction when I was a Boy Scout, and discovered Zenna Henderson's stories of the People just before I graduated from high school, nearly 30 years ago. Reading the Golden Age sf authors (such as Asimov, Clarke and Heinlein) led me to my engineering career, but the warmth and depth in ZH's stories have stayed with me the longest. Of all the stories I have read, only J.R.R. Tolkien's short story "Smith of Wootton Major" seems to be in the same league with these. If I could take the works of only one sf author with me to a desert island, I would choose Zenna Henderson's <>.

Sentiment, ethics and fantasy in Science Fiction
I am glad to find in "Ingathering" a collection of 'The People Stories'. As a young man I read them and felt that they were a charge to go into the world and teach, accepting people for what they were and for what they COULD be. My only regret in reading the book is to know that there will be no more stories to warm my heart and inspire my connection to the community in which I find myself. If Zenna Henderson has no remaining blood family, she has a larger family in those whom she inspired and encouraged. "The People" are an example of what can be the best in all of us.

Truly a classic
I am thrilled that the People stories are back in print. I read them years ago. I own all four of the books, including the hardcover edition of Pilgrimage. I love to share these wonderful stories with others. Now they can buy their own copies. For anyone who hasn't read the stories yet I have one caution. This hardcover edition has an introductory story preceding the first titled story "Ararat." "Ararat" is the true first story of the People and originally was published in a science fiction magazine first. I read it in the magazine and almost 40 years later I can still remember the shocking thrill that went through me as I read a certain line that told me that something strange and wonderful was about to unfold. Of course I won't reveal the line and spoil it for others, but all Zenna Henderson readers will know to what I refer. New readers READ ARARAT FIRST!!

Best Book Ever!
This was the ultimate perfect ending! I'm so sad that the series is done, but it couldn't have gotten any better! The situations between both max and Liz and Michael and Maria get so intense, I almost cried! It is honestly the best book i have ever read! But i don't want to give anything away! So...enjoy!

Best Book in Series
This book, in my opinion, was a stunning conclusion to the 10-book series. As a big Max and Liz, Michael and Maria fan, this was a book I could not stop reading. I read this book at least 5 times in a row. It is well written, carefully crafted, and heart wrenching. The book is so full of human emotion, and yet a lot of the characters in the book are aliens! I would highly recommend this book to all ages, whether a fan of the show and/or books, or not! I loved it!

WOW!
I finally got this book almost 24 hours ago 3 am! and i immediatly started reading it. could not put it down. finally finished it at 530am. by far the best. worth the wait. the characters bonding together almost brings us around in a circle to the beginning of the series. now that i have all 10, i'm craving for more. for those people that love that quirky couple to get together.... gotta read it.

Sweet Valley High: Senior Year #7
Following the events in "Your Basic Nightmare" (#6), "Boy Meets Girl" (#7) makes some interesting changes in the main character's lives. For starters, Jeremy Aames finally asks Jessica Wakefield out on a few dates after their first kiss in the previous book. However, their dates never seem to go as planned, and they both begin to have their doubts about whether or not they should continue seeing each other. Plus, there's that added tension with Will Simmons showing up on one of their nights out. His appearance would seem harmless (after all, Jess swears she's over him), but if you read on, you'll see why it's not.

Next up is Melissa Fox, who is hospitalized after trying to kill herself in book #6, right after Will Simmons broke up with her. Most everybody feels guilty about this incident, especially Jess and Will, yet that's not stopping either one of them from thinking about each other. Could there still be some possible chemistry between these two? (I hope not. Jess seems happy enough with Jeremy, without Will ruining things.)

And lastly: Maria Slater had caught Elizabeth Wakefield and Conner McDermott kissing, and now she's not speaking to either one of them, mostly Liz though. And not surprisingly, Conner is now avoiding Liz, too, so she can "work things out" with Maria. More like so he can leave the "relationship" quietly.

There were some really good lists, journal entries, and assignments in "Boy Meets Girl", in particular Liz's freestyle writing assignment about the meaning of love and Maria's "Why Books Are Better Than People" list (my favorite). This is probably one of the better books I've read so far in this series. Jessica is finally back to her old self, worrying about boys and appearances, plus being more assertive, which was the biggest character trait missing in the previous six SVHSY books. "Boy Meets Girl" is worth reading if you finally want to see Melissa get her comeuppance and Jessica land on her two feet again. For readers age 12+

interesting, but one little problem
ok, now the book itself was good, but what i want to know is why Jessica can even think about Will after the way he treated her. also, i hope she and Jeremy have a strong relationship, but i know that it won't last, and neither will Liz and Conner. How? because in the first book of the SVU series, Liz and Todd are a couple, anxious to start college together, and Jessica and Lila are friends again, and Jessica is single. That's the problem i have with the whole sweet valley thing. there is a lower school series, a bunch of middle school ones, and a now retired junior year, senior year, and college. it's almost too much. they are each pretty good, but reading them all at once makes it confusing. that's why i refuse to support Liz and Connor, or Jessica and Jeremy. i hope that for now, each relationship is strong and healthy, but since i know it won't last, i can't really get all that excited. oh, but i am glad that Melissa was dumped. do any of the students at SVH know what a slut is? Jessica kissed Will before she found out about his girlfriend, and then he and Melissa spread that rumor about more happening, and then all of a sudden, Jessica was the school slut. first of all, a slut is someone who sleeps with every guy she goes out with, and Jessica simply went on dates, nothing more. also, even if she was dumb enough to sleep with Will (thank god she's smarter than that!), that still doesn't make her one, all that does is tell people that the new guy pretended he was single to get a girl into bed. that would put HIM at fault, not Jessica. she would have had some blame, but not enough to be a slut. those people really need to realize what they're talking about before they start saying it.

it's a great book
i think that jeremy and jessica made a great couple and jessica should forget about will. jeremy is a much better choice than will.i hope that jessica won't break up with jeremy just because of will. maria should get over the fact that elizabeth is in love with conner.melissa got what she deserved.i can't wait to read the next book!!!

Sharing the Promise
The promise shared is one of holding on to your dreams, and holding out for God's best. My sister Mandy and I read this book when she was a freshman in high school, and I, a twenty-three year old, stay-at-home mom of a little girl named Lindsey.

When Mandy and I shared these special moments in the life of this fictional girl known as Christy Miller, we laughed, and we cried. We learned together what it was like to relate to the joys and trials of a young woman going through the kind of change that one goes through when getting to know God in a personal way. The memories for my sister and I will be long remembered. This past Christmas Mandy handed down her "Christy Miller" collection to Lindsey. Again, the promise will be shared, even as I read the books with my twelve year old daughter. Lindsey is already introducing her younger sister, Lauren, age four, to all her "friends" from the Christy Miller series! The sharing of another promise to "read the books together" has been made.

The writings of Robin Jones-Gunn are a true legacy. Her love for the Lord and her desire to share that love and the joy of knowing Him are ever present in her works. I can not thank the Lord enough for her giftedness as an author. The quality and moral integrity with which she addresses her audiences is a true joy to myself, as an avid reader, and also as the mother of a young girl in search of an adventerous and realistic read.

Absolutely the best Christian series for teens ever!
Wow. I was amazed when I read this book and fell completely in love with the series. Although I don't think it is the best of Robin Jones Gunn's 12-book series about Christy Miller, you should read them all in order. 14 year old Christy goes to the beach to spend the summer with her rich aunt and uncle. She meets Todd, Doug, Tracy, and lots of other friends who are all so wrapped up in "The Lord". Christy, who grew up in a Christian home but never understood what it was all about, develops a crush on Todd. In time, Christy becomes a Christian...but I'm not going to tell you what happens with Todd! All I can say is, read the entire series. And then read the Sierra Jensen series, which kind of continues the story. They are all among the best books I've ever read, not to mention definately the most spiritually uplifting. And extremely romantic. Especially number 12!

these are great books!!!!!
I have read all of the Christy Miller series and the Sierra Jensen series.I have also read Until Tomarrow and As You Wish, in the Christy and Todd series. They are the best books I have ever read. Robin is by far my favorite author. The way that she writes makes you feel like you are the one going through all these things and makes me want to read them over and over again. As I read the way that Christy goes through everyday life handling school, crushes, parents, friends, and GOD, made me start to look at how I handle them. I laughed and cried through this incredible series. I would definately recommend this book and all of Robin's books to everyone!

Not a bad read.
This isn't a bad read and it's a quick read too. I love reading vampire novels, and was told I should give it a try. Over all, it wasn't that bad. I found it interesting that the word "vampire" is never used. If it was, it was done once and I missed it.

This is the story of Stefan, a vampire that wasn't to put his past behind him, and live a "normal" life as a vampire. He enrolls on school and meets Elena, who falls for Stefan. Some murders happen and all (most all) of the finger pointing goes to Stefan. Stefan has a darker and more evil Brother nanmed, Damon. He too wasn't Elena. And will kill for her....

Over all it's a decent book. It's a YA book, so it's not heavy on teh vampire aspect. Heck, the vampires could go out in the day. that was a bit over the top for me, but I enjoyed the book.

Smith has a writing style that can keep you hooked to the book. The char are well developed and the plot is interesting to read with a lot of nice twists.

take a chance, you may like it.

The Series You Will Never Forget!!!!!
I loved this series!!! This book especially. I read this book about 5 years ago and to this day, if you ask me to name my top favorite books The Struggle would be #1 followed by the other books of this "I could'nt put the book down, if I tried" series.

Elena is a sweet "I would do anything to help someone in need" type of a girl who's beauty is as captivating as her personality.
Apparently the Vampire Stefan and his brother Damon thinks so too. The story holds your eyes as Elena discovers she loves both men and has to choose between them.

Whew!!!! there is so much more to this story and so little space to say it...but then again I'd hate to ruin this book for anyone interested in buying it.....But Hey if you are into vampire novels with a huge heaping of passion and romance....BUY THE BOOK!!!!!!

MY FAVORITE BOOK! IT TOOK ME TO ANOTHER WORLD!
I don't know about you but this is the best book I've ever read! I've read the series 3 times, which is very unusal for me! I love books like this one because it's romantic, its got the horror and love mixed in it. This may sound crazy but you can't help falling hopelessly in love with the two brothers Stefan and Damon! Don't worry though I love Stefan more, hehe! Don't ask... When you read these books it becomes your world, sounds crazy doesn't it. But really I can't get over the book! I love the way the guys, especially Stefan, would do anything for his girl, Elena, and how they couldn't stand one moment appart from each other. I want a boyfriend like that lol (laugh out loud). But you also have to love Damon too, but he's mysterious and goregous (just like Stefan)hehe. I know it's a book but it can take you to another world. You better read it!!

Caroline B. Cooney really captures the reader's attention right from the beginning. Emergency Room is full of suspense and at times very mooving. Diana and Seth are very real, as are all the characters. I loved it! I would reccomend this book to anyone! Read it! Well done Ms. Cooney!

Excellent book!!!!!!!!!
I read this book a few months ago and was attached to it. I finished it in less then a week. The book gives an inside look to what really happens inside an ER, and it gives many different points of view, 2 volunteers and I think 3 patients. It's a very interesting book by the one and only Caroline B. Cooney. It's good for anyone wishing to pursue a career in EMS!!!

Emergency Room by Caroline B. Cooney
Emergency Room by Caroline B. Cooney is a wonderful book about real-life in the ER. Many tragic events happen in what seems like forever, but is only three hours. You get many people's perspectives of the ER. You get the staff and patient's point of view. It shows what really happens. I think anyone could enjoy this great book.

A brief literary review
The Farseekers is a thoroughly enjoyable and exciting read. Isobelle Carmody has successfully incorporated action, fantasy, drama, comedy, tragedy and romance into a wonderful story filled colour and life.

This book illustrates Carmody's maturation as a writer between her penning of Obernewtyn and its successor. In her sensitive portrayal of a young girl's ongoing struggle to come to terms with herself, she illustrates her own insight into human character and relationships.

Carmody achieves in her characters what so few futuristic, fantasy, and science fiction writers are unable to attain: likeable, believeable, multidimensional characters.

The Farseekers achieves its primary function of following on from Obernewtyn and leading into Ashling all while maintaining the readers' interest.

The Farseekers is an aborbing and rewarding read. The book and the series to which it belongs thoroughly deserves the awards it has won and its continuing popularity wit! h its audience.

If the author happens to read this, please reply if you like what you see! Thanks! Thespis

amazing!
the obernewtyn chronicles have been my favourite books since 1987, when i was introduced to obernewtyn as a 9 year old school girl. this is when the first book was ever published. ever since then ive been on an impatient wait for the following books. to the farseekers, what can i say? it just gets better and better. to all of you who live outside of australia, be patient. if you guys think youve got it bad, with only the first two of her books being released there, just imagine what we down under are going through. shes a painfully slow writer. id suggest if its possible, to get your hands on her other books, scatterlings, the gathering, darkfall (a new series, the legendsong which shes started) and green monkey dreams. but i guess that all depends on whether theyve been published overseas. i dont want to ruin it for you, but trust that your patience will be worth it. not only do the following two books, ashling and the keeping place get better and better but her writing improves dramatically. im not saying that shes a bad writer, shes actually my favourite author. but you have to realise that she began to write obernewtyn at the age of 14 and worked on it throughout high school, and for a 14 year old that was an amazing piece of work. it just really hits you how her writing style has developed into something that really blows you away. but i can tell foreign readers this, the next book and supposedly the last book in the chronicles is called the sending. i say supposedly, because i remember after the farseekers came out the next book was meant to be the keeping place, but it ended being ashling and then the keeping place(which was just released in australia this year). i hope to god that the sending isnt the last book. and shes also meant to be working on the second book in the legendsong series, called darksong.

Absolutely wonderful books!
There are just some books that you can't put down, and you're really sorry when you finish them because you want to read more. I read Obernewtyn and The Farseekers and immediately started searching online for the next books in the series. I haven't purchased them yet from Australia because I keep waiting for another one to come out (SOON?)(I hope) so I can order three of them and have yet one more book in the series to read before I have to go into withdrawl again. Obviously I would highly recommend this series to anyone from young adults up.
