Essential Mineral Reference
Includes chapters on every major rock-forming mineral, with sections on structure, chemistry, optical and physical properties, distinguishing features, and paragenesis for almost every mineral. All this is presented in a clear and organized fashion.

Extremely useful reference book. As a grad student studying mineralogy, I couldn't do without it. A+

An Introduction to the Rock Forming Minerals
An great book. I have the 13th impression of this book published in 1982. We used this book in second year mineralogy and found it very useful not only in mineraology but throughout the remaining years of our geology program at University. The book is easy to use and has all the different groups, ortho- ring silicates, chain silicates, sheet silicates, framework silicates and non silicates and provides information pertaining to properties, crystal structure, chemistry and paragenesis.

A must if you study minerals
This book is an absolute must for anyone working with minerals in any way. Beeing an introduction to rockforming minerals it is very conprehensive. It is very valuable not only as a textbook but also as a handbook in the lab. As the title says it covers the rockforming minerals so dont expect to find exotic minearls. You can though expect to find a relatively detailed introduction to the most important minerals. It far surpasses any student minaralogy to my knowledge.

Student Solution Manual
The book is very good but if there is a student solution manual to go with it that would be very helpful. The book has very many useful problems but with no solutions i'm never sure if what i did was right or wrong.

I want to take solution
I am studying the book. However it is little bit difficult to solve the example without solution, so I wonder if the solution exist or not. If do, I would like to take the solution. let me know whether it's possible or not.

A request for problem solution manual
I am going to introduce this book as one of two text books for probability course. So I need a problem solution manual. I am wondering if your company distribute the manual. would you let me know how can I get one. I send this message through review because I don't know how to apply for that. Your co-operation in this regard is appreciated.

Great for bears and humans alike!
If you have a Vermont Teddy Bear, this book is a *must* for you, since the hero of this book *is* a Vermont Teddy Bear. My bear, Christopher, and I read this together; and it got him all fired up to write "back home" to the factory, just like Teddy in the book is doing. :-) Beautiful graphics; very cute story of a bear's adventures once he leaves the factory; you just can't miss!

Children and teachers will love it!!!
As a second grade student teacher, I used this book within a unit on teddy bears and friendship. The children loved it. It was funny, engaging, and a great introduction to adventure.

GREAT illustrations!
The story is wonderfully original, but it's the beautiful illustrations that strike me most in this book. This is a cute tale of a teddy bear's adventures with the children who adopt him and makes a perfect companion to someone's very first teddy bear. I received this book for Christmas at age 16 and loved it.

A "must have" book for anyone interested in fly-fishing
From page one, this book has you yearning to get outside and cast a line. The amazing photography and the author's attention to detail really captures the true beauty of each destination visited during the author's epic fly-fishing expedition across the globe. Any avid fly-fisherman or anyone interested in finding out about great places to fly-fish around the world should buy this book.

Best Book on Fly Fishing
I have been fly fishing avidly for 20 years and have read several books on the subject. This work is by far the best piece I have come across. Anyone who is interested in fly fishing will find this book truly enjoyable - I consider it a must have for any enthusiast.

Bbish
Everybody has a friend (a relative, a mate!) who lives to fish. This book's for her. Well, there are lots of good fishing books. This one interested me because it looked at fishing as a cross-cultural experience, as one of those things that defines us as being part of the same species. The author and some National Georgraphic-class photographers went around the world and brought back stories and images that made me feel better about being alive and liking to fish.

Mathematical Methods for Foreign Exchange: A Financial Engineer's Approach

State of the Art
I own pretty much all of the books on quantitative finance
and this one holds a cherished place on my bookshelf.
Anybody either working as a quant or with aspirations to become one should dust off some space on their bookshelf as well.
Anybody who does serious research in finance in either academia or industry already knows that it is somewhat rare for top researchers to pen books of any length. Time is at a premium and the payoff to publishing journal articles or to finishing off code is typically much greater than it is for writing books.

This is what distinguishes this book from its competitors.
The author is well known in financial circles as one of a handful of quants who is capable of meaningfully contributing new results to this fascinating field. The book contains many results which cannot be found elsewhere in the public domain.
Although the book title suggests that the results apply only to
foreign exchange, it is straightforward to adapt the results to

equities, commodities, and many other underlyings.

Wall Street is a very secretive place and it is not easy to get a glimpse of the kind of things that consume a quant's time.
I suspect that the only reason that this book was able to come to light is due to the acquisition of Banker's Trust, the author's former employer. Banker's was well known to be a fertile training ground for the best derivative minds and this book should prove to be a lasting legacy to that view.

An excellent addition to any quants library
Alexander Lipton Lifschitz has brought his extensive
experience and years of research in the most diverse areas
of applied mathematics as well as his experience
in the financial industry to bear in authoring this
very interesting book.

The range of this book is impressive.
Although the author chose to focus on currency
options, his book really is a treatise on
a wide spectrum of problems and methodologies
which any quant wishing to tackle the
sophisticated world of option pricing at a high level
must master.

The author demonstrates his mastery of
the arsenal of the classic applied mathematician,
asymptotic analysis, self-similarity, Laplace
and Fourier transform, and uses these to give an
incisive analysis of both standard topics
such as American options and more exotic topics
such as options on one currency with
barriers on the other currency, passport
options (for which he was a pioneer in developping
pricing tools) , asian options and much much more.

No, this is not as easy a read as Willmott's
books. Willmott's books were and remain
an important contribution with their
quick and intuitive explanation of a variety
of instruments. Lipton- Lifschitz's
book is more challenging and the reader will
have to pull up his sleeves on
occasions where the author, while dealing
with a case analogous to one just treated
says " the details are left to the reader".
But let's face it, if you work on Wall Street
or nearby, you'll have to tackle those details
alone at some point and Lipton-Lifschitz
gives you all you need to know to do
pull this off.

And. last but not least, let's not forget the price. At less than 50$ thisbook is a real bargain and for a first
printing, unusually free of typos or others
errors.

I highly recommend you buy this book now before the publisher
doubles the price.

A Book That Was Long Overdue
Most of the books on mathematical finance fall in one of the two domains. Some books are written for people who are new to the field and, as such, do not go deeply into the mathematical details that are crucial for implementing these methods in practice. The more advanced books are usually written by academic mathematicians and sometimes suffer from poor readability and lack of awareness of relevant problems. What many people are looking for is a detailed and readable description of how to apply the latest mathematical methods to solving the problems appearing in day-to-day work of derivatives desks. Such books are few and far between: that is why Alex Lipton's manuscript was so welcome.

As a quant in one of the Wall Street investment banks, I found this book a very valuable resource. Though written on a fairly high level, this book remains a readable and consistent exposition of latest methods of foreign exchange modeling. I particularly appreciated that the author does not skip steps in his derivations and gives out all those little practical details that are so important to people planning to use these methods in their work. The range of topics covered is fairly wide, with main emphasis on derivative pricing. I found the two chapters on path-dependent options to be particularly interesting and extensive. Some of the results included in the book came out of author's original work at Deutsche Bank. I also had an impression that some of his latest work was not included in the book, which is a pity.

All in all, an excellent book. Well worth the price.

Mayanism
Published in Paperback by Sentient Temple Press (05 May, 2001)
Author: Dennis Alexander
Amazon base price: $19.95

MAGIC ! IT WORKS !
When I first read this book I was uncertain of my being able to properly apply this system into my own Baptist belief structure. I soon learned that I had to change nothing of what I believed, but simply incorporate new information, follow the rituals, and add some of my own, and my goodness, I saw immediate results. My niece had been abducted and I used parts of this book to help find her. My connection to Kukulcan was immediate and rewarding. This book opened my eyes to a whole new world of wonderful spiritual contact to Deities who respond. Thank you Rev. Alexander

The Calendar is worth twice the price of the book
I bought this book last week and found the information in it bold and I commend Rev. Alexander for his gutzy approach to challenging "the money changers." Not since Christ drove the money changers out of the temple has anyone ever challenged organized religion to such a degree. His substantiated claims are truly amazing and disturbing. At last someone who isn't full of untruth, fear of reprisal and mis-leading! I can tell you the magic works! The CD is wonderful. It has an insallation program and each morning when I turn on my computer it gives me the current Day Lord and numerical sign. I have typed in each member of my family and friends and instantly computed thier day signs. It is great! I have bought several copies to send to my friends. The combination of the best of many philosophies is outstanding. Reiki Karuna Master, Edna Wallace

I connected with the Supernatrual !
This is the second book by Dennis Alexander I have read. What an incredible auhtor! Both books intertwine, however Mayanism gives you the hard facts of the "magic" that can be accomplished with the power of the mind when properly directed. His "The Sabastian Cane Chronicles" is a work of fiction but is laced with so much "truth" which is explained in great detail in "Mayanism." The photographs of his wife Fern with three Deities descending upon her is breathtaking. All of the many photographs are enough to substantiate much of the philosopy that the Rev. Alexander puts before us. The CD which changes daily with the Mayan Day Lords is worth the price of the book. All in all the book is worth five times what I paid for it. Bravo ! Author ! What is next? I can,t wait for the next book.

Some of the most gorgeous works in the piano repertoire
Dover publishes complete works of many composers, and they did pianists a huge favor by compiling the works of Scriabin into several volumes of music. Scriabin, a "bridge" composer between the 19th and 20th Century, composed romantic yet modernistic works sometimes reminiscent of Chopin. His later work was far more dense and individualistic. Unfortunately, he died in his 40's, but, like the short-lived Schubert,he left a considerable volume of works for the piano. The other Dover volumes are the Sonatas and the Preludes and Etudes. Logically, they put other minor works (nocturnes, dances, etc) into this volume.

If you are a skilled pianist, try the Op. 28 Fantasie. This work, sadly, is rarely recorded but is one of the most incredibly gorgeous things ever written for piano. The only other copy of this I own is in a Hungarian edition not available in the US, so rejoice if you play piano.

Dover prints music that is easy to read and the editing is usually blameless. This book is no exception. Highly recommended for serious piano students.

.....as well.
What the above review failed to mention is that the "Muzurkas, Poems, and Impromptues" book contains all of Scriabin's piano music excepting that which is contained in the "Preludes and Etudes" and the "Piano Sonata's" books. All three of these books are published by Dover and are not altered to death buy rotten editors. Comprehensive editions of composer's works are very valuable and often a huge oversight in the unusually chopy realm of sheet music. The book is also made as good as paperbacks get.

Overlooked composer Scriabin's musical thoughts in print!!

This collection of mostly unrelated works by AlexanderNicolyavich Scriaban (1872-1915) is most undoubtedly the crown jewelof Twentieth-Century piano music; yet it is almost totally overlooked historically as well as musically. It represents not his ordered compositions, as do his preludes and etudes, but rather his sporadic, sometimes psychotic thoughts; it is a veritable musical diary of the very bizarre and mystical life of the great Russian enigma. It belongs on the shelf of any serious music student, especially those of Russian music, for in this myriad of masterworks are the very core of the underappreciated and often entirely overlooked Alexander N. Scriabin.
