Among our favorites! Great travel book. For ages 4+ girls.
My daughter received this as an Xmas gift when she was 3. It may be our favorite book--it occupies us for at least 45 minutes each time. Each page has ingenious activities, with pop-ups, mini-book, a puzzle, a fishing game, I Spy, dress-up the paper doll and bear--along with accompanying rhymes for each page and activity--this is a wonderful, educational, well-planned, clever book. I plan on giving it as gifts to all her friends. A wonderful travel book too--pack it in your carry-on as a great surprise on the plane, or unpack it at your destination and your little girl will love it! We have at least 100 books & this is definitely in the top 3. Because it has many features and parts, I would recommend it for girls ages 4+, or mature 3 year-olds, or, if younger, read it only with an adult so the parts won't be lost.
The Toy Cupboard
This is a wonderful book that looks through a toy cupboard and has little games and pop-ups along the way. Some of the activities include a mini puzzle, a "fishing" game, a magic trick, a paper doll, and finger puppets. Our 1 year old loves it. He has torn a lot of it up, but that was half the fun.

Best book for Wood
Wood is known as one of the funniest of the early Mad magazine artists, and is well represented in reprints of those classic issues, but this is the best collection of the man's work I have seen. With examples of the varied genres he mastered, including both ink drawings and preliminary pencil sketches, the book is similar in format to the John Romita sketchbook recently out. Wood was one of the best cartoonists who ever drew, and if you're interested in illustration or science fiction (especially of the 1950's), this is a must have. As I flipped through page after page of weird and absurd examples of inspired skill, I was struck by the sheer effort this guy put into his work. It's scary for me to realize that, for all his talent and labor, Wood never achieved wealth or contentment, and died at his own hand on Halloween night 1981.
Wally wood Knows Sci-Fi
This book is filled with wonderful drawings. I had never heard of wally wood before but as an artist myself was very inspired by his amazing work. This book shows just how ahead of his time wally wood was and can be an inspiration to any sci-fi fan.

vital information for everybody
Some readers will agree with Doctor Wood's underlying economic assumptions and others will want to debate them, but the wealth of information in this book, the keen insider's look into our HMO catastrophe and related managed health care issues, is nonpareil. Yes things really ARE as bad as you suspected, and Dr. Wood will accurately document statistics, cases, and legislation that led to the problem. This is an important book, well-written and professionally researched.
A Must Read For All Citizens
I read the new book "Who Will Take Care Of Me When I Am Sick"
and am very impressed with it. It is a sober, direct, and
well-researched account of the subject of today's problems in
medicine. It is neither labored nor contentious. The book does
not address any particular constituency, but it does address
people who might want to learn about a problem of concern to
us all.

David Feartherston's Woodys
This is a great book for anyone who loves cars made with wood. It covers everything from the earliest Pre-World War One cars to Ninties vehicles with fake trim; from beautifully restored originals to hot rods and even custom-built one-offs; and not just wagons, but sedans and convertibles, too. If you want to know how to build or restore a Woody, this is not the book to by (although it's great for inspiration), but if you just want to enjoy looking at these beautiful cars, and finding out more about them, it's a definate must-buy.
Woodys
If you enjoy looking at vintage woody automobiles this is the book to read. There is even a 1951 Chevy wagon that has painted wood that is so good you can't tell the difference between the real thing.
If you love cars, buy this book!

Best reference on thyroid health and treatment.
YOUR THYROID is the single most comprehensive and accessible reference on thyroid problems I have seen. It includes summaries of recent studies that other books lack, it treats the cluster of thyroid problems in a unified way, and raises issues of treatment with the same level of integration. Of particular help to women seeking in-depth information on thyroid issues.
The best thyroid book I've found so far!
Not only did this book help me understand my thyroid and what it does, it helped my primary care giver diagnos my disorder. The book lists all the tests that should be done and what the normal levels should be and it has a great resource listing. It also tells how to trace thyroid problems in families. I finally have a handy resource book at home when I need it!

The Finest Edition of Walden I've come across
This book, edited by Philip Van Doren Stern, is a dream come true for diehard Thoreauvians (like myself). If you think you know everything about Thoreau's Walden, think again. This book is full of fascinating footnotes that shed light on particular turns of phrase and allusions that one thought one had grasped. The footnotes are particularly illuminating in re turns of phrases that have gone out of style. To learn, for instance, that train wrecks and such were commonly referred to as "melancholy accidents" in the papers of the time, lends an otherwise missing mordant wit to Thoreau's criticism of the railroad when he says that "it will be perceived that a few are riding while the rest are run over-and it will be called, and will be, 'A Melancholy Accident'."-Absolutely delightful! Why is this book out of print with so many purported lovers of Thoreau out there?!?

a credible book to credit great artwork
I found this book ot be an excellent asset to my collection of modern british art. I thought that the large amount of content was covered thouroghly, but not drawn out to get stale(just like the artwork itself, discussed). This is a very important book because it recaps all of what is happening with the yBa movement in the artworld. This book is for anyone who wants to be on top of the world of modern art.

Worth Every Penny!
This book is an outstanding guide to the marine life found along the shores of the Pacific Northwest. Before I go further, I should note that it is NOT a pocket guide. But if you slip it into a daypack, you will be amply rewarded. Dr. Niesen has written a book that in very clear language helps you identfy what you are looking at, learn about its life habits, and learn about its habitat. Its emphasis on habitats, and arrangement by type of organism within each habitat, is extremely helpful. The black and white photos are usually pretty good, although sometimes dark, but the section of color plates is really good. What are really outstanding are the line drawings--David Wood, the artist, really captures the organisms in a way that brings out details yet preserves the basic nature of the organism.
The book also gives a great (meaning clear yet not too simple) introduction to marine biology for the Pacific Northwest, explaining tides, currents, the origin of the coast , and the basic biology of the major groups (taxa) of organisms. Furthermore, he provides tips on beachcombing.
All in all, a very handy reference. I will consider it for my Marine Biology class for non-majors (I'd use it with a majors course, too, if I taught one!).

Excellent Idea Book!
I have been a professional faux painter for over 5 years. This is the book I turn to when a client is looking for something unusual. The photos provide endless, timeless finishes and designs. I have spent countless hours poured over Mr. Carter's book and I always find a little something in the pictures that I can turn into a 'new' look. The current 'in-style' colors may change, but that is the beauty of paint! Change the colors and you have a new look. As I always say, the best ideas usually begin as someone else's!

An exceptional exhibition of turned wood
The principals of the Del Mano Gallery have presented an excellent photographic rendition of the extraordinary craftsmanship exhibited at their Los Angeles (Brentwood) gallery.
While the photo illustrations are excellent, the photos do not do justice to the actual visual representation of each piece. These works of art need to be seen first individually in order to appreciate their craftsmanship.
