A Blood Infusion for Feeble Prayer
This is a remarkable book. From the man who was responsible for millions of Bibles smuggled behind the Iron Curtain, he tells his secret strategy. He refers to scriptures in proving that Christians (and Jews) may indeed justify asking God to change his mind. Then he gives examples of when he did just that, and GOD DID CHANGE HIS MIND. He charges the heresy of Christian fatalism with the responsibility for the powerlessness of many of today's Christians. He points out that Christianity (and Judaism)is the ONLY religion that denies the immovability of the will of God. If you are into prayer, try it, you'll like it.

Best book on intercessory prayer
Brother Andrew knows what prayer is all about, and this book makes plain the ways in which God longs to communicate with us. Biblically sound, highly readable. Exciting stuff! It will transform your prayer life.

Excellent Prayer Resource
This is an excellent book on the subject of Christian prayer. I suggest it to anyone interested in praying or communicating with God in more dynamic means.

Excellent for Discipleship
This is an excellent book to use for teaching new believers the basics of Christian theology. The chapters are concise and to the point. It whets the spiritual appetite of the new Christian to go on and read the gold mines of suggested reading that are included with each chapter. You can't go wrong with this easy to follow, down to earth volume!

Mary's View
I applaud the author for another easy-to-read and simple presentation of more wonderful topics of the Bible. His book gives the average layperson an excellent tool to discover the wonder of God's Word and creates a desire to go deeper. It also reminds those who are more mature in the faith that simplicity is a wonderful quality in explaining doctrine. The book is a great source of information to help those who want to really know what the Bible says and to grow spiritually, as well as a guide to develop an excellent library of sound evangelical authors. It's a perfect gift to give someone who is looking for answers to some of life's most perplexing questions.

Congratulations to the author for another well written, much needed book. I hope there's more to come.

BASICS FOR BELIEVERS is hardly basic
The book, BASICS FOR BELIEVERS, is hardly basic. It's profound, dynamic and to the point. Quite frankly, I think it's a need for long-time believers as well as new converts because it quickly reminds us of where we've been, what has taken place and how we should look in the future. Great job! Very well written!

A Legendary Story of William Marshal!
This novel is about William Marshal, premiere knight and Isabelle de Clare, richest heiress in the kingdom. William returns home from the Holy Land only to become embroiled in another war. A war to defend Isabelle from Prince John her legal guardian. He has been parceling out her lands to win favor with other lords. Meanwhile, William returns to Henry II's service as promised, Richard Lionheart, Henry's son is constantly challenging him to the throne. Amidst all of this is Eleanor, scheming, conniving and always charming. She tries to persuade Isabelle to convince William to switch sides to Richard who will grant both of them their greatest dream.

However, William remains a loyal knight to Henry and fights his battles for him. Prince and later young King Phillip tries to drive an already deeper wedge between Henry and Richard.

This was an incredible book! It was fast paced and always has you on the edge of your seat. Another novel to be savored in the wee hours of the morning. Alas, it is out-of-print, however, find a copy and read it, you won't be disappointed!

This review refers to the United Kingdom version titled "King's Champion" in Hardcover.

Isabelle and William Marshal
With Champion Mr. Christian Balling presents to the reader an excellent historical novel on the historical characters of Isabelle de Clare and William Marshal, Countess and Earl of Pembroke. It's set at the end of King Henry's II reign in 1189. We meet Isabelle de Clare (daughter of the deceased Earl Richard de Clare and the Irish princess Aoife), heiress to the vast Earldom of Pembroke and several other holdings and a ward of Prince John. Her vast inheritance makes Isabelle a rich marriage prize. Isabelle escapes attempted rape by Prince John and manages to flee to her Irish estates. There John's henchman lays siege before Kilkenny. William Marshal after returning from the Holy Land and visiting his old friend Sir Ranulf (Isabelle's vassal), and on hearing of Isabelle's plight, now Marshal champions her in a duel and vanquishes her foe. Unexpectedly Isabelle and Marshal have fallen deeply in love. But Marshal is without title and lands and could he ever hope of winning Isabelle's hand in marriage? With King Henry dying, and Marshal remaining loyal to Henry the situation is uncertain. Ater Henry has died and Richard succeeded him. Richard surprisingly rewards Marshal's loyality to his father (where many others went over to his side) in giving him Isabelle's hand and her lands. An excellently researched passionate, poignant and humourous novel with great, honourable and noble characters. Mr. Balling's characterization of Isabelle and William is splendid. Isabelle makes a strong, intelligent and spirited heroine. And the loyal and steadfast Marshal is the perfect match for her. Very highly recommended!

Absolutely Wonderful
This novel was more than thrilling and exciting. A definite must read for those who love adventure and history.

A Treasury of Teaching Knowledge and Wisdom
After reading this book, I have a deeper understanding of the basic development levels and learning abilities of students. Taking the principles presented by many well-known psychologists and Jesus -- the Master Teacher -- "Created to Learn" is a thorough compilation of information that transformed my approach to teaching based on the learner's needs and abilities. The "Discipler's Model" introduced in this book is a revolutionary, functional basis for monitoring teaching techniques within the classroom for flexible, balanced and productive learning sessions. The book provided priceless insight, application and examples for effective teaching techniques for learners in every level of development -- from birth to seniors. I highly recommend this book to all types of educators from Sunday school teachers and parents to professors and pastors.

Thorough, versatile, distinctively Christian !
Dr. Yount's 'Created to Learn' is a distinctively Christian analysis as well as synthesis of the current trends in Educatinal Psychology and Theories of Learning. It is designed to reach both the Sunday School teachers who are frustrated because their efforts 'do not get through', as well as the Christian Educators who want to perfect or revolutionize their teaching skills. The textbook is well researched and documented, well written, quite comprehensive in its coverage of the curent psychological and philosophical trends of influence, being the result of approximately 20 years of study. The 'Discipler's Model' which is introduced integrates the dynamics of Biblical truth and Holy Spirit guidance with theoretical concepts that have been elaborated by 'laic' authors. Having had the priviledge of taking a course in Educational Psychology with Dr. Yount I can attest that the book is an excellent tool for both undergraduate as well as graduate settings, and a must for the library of any respectable pastor or Christian Educator.

Comparison of Educational Psychology and Christian Teaching
The author intoduces a seven-fold approach to Christian Teaching. He explains the needs of a learner and the basis of all learning from a Christian perspective while contrasting it with secular thinking. A great work for understanding the needs of the learner and how to meet them.

Bravo, Father Rutler!
It is not breathless hyperbole, but rather a genuine and deeply felt sincerity that leads me to say that "A Crisis of Saints" is one of the best books it's ever been my pleasure to read. Father Rutler addresses the most important issue facing man -- the Church (and, by inevitable extension, Western Civilization) in crisis, and how to reverse this trend, which, if left unchecked, will soon result in absolute calamity. In addition to the inherent interest of his chosen topic, Father Rutler's erudition and elegance of expression are breathtaking. He's also delightfully charming and witty.

Highly, highly recommended.

Vatican II deconstructed
Do-it-yourself Catholics will not appreciate this book. It sets the record straight regarding the Roman Catholic Church in modern times and the many specious interpretations foisted on Catholics. Using historical example, writings of intellectuals (including himself) and sound reasoning, Father Rutler skewers he post-Vatican II free-spirits with disciplined dialectic. To those who wonder how so many Catholics have lost their way in pursuit of some feel-good comaraderie, this book will provide insight. The writing is not for the beautiful people. Some passages must be read several times and checked against one's own reality. Those who make the effort will, perhaps, gain some peace of mind and even hope. Looking over the collection of what passes for leaders and thinkers of the world today, we see that the assured restoration of the Catholic Church requires a severe shock, A Crisis of Saints. It will come, but the spiritual price will be high.

a landmark for all Christians
I've read this 3 times so far. I will continue to read to fully absorb all that there is in this most intensely written and serious commentary on the state of Christianity today. Fr.Rutler nails it!

A volume filling a distinct need
This volume has a well-deserved sequel. Fr. O'Malley has developed a prayer book with a four week cycle which speaks to contemporary Catholics to whom the psalms and patristic readings are "dead". This is not an adaptation of the Liturgy of the Hours; rather it is a substitute. Morning and Evening prayer have a simple structure: an opening prayer, a "grace" or single sentence to carry with you outside the formal prayer time, a psalm expanded to include a variety of Biblical poetry, a hymn which is usually poetry from the last three or four centuries, and a closing prayer. Mid-day prayer is the longest adding a prose reading and a Scriptural reading to the format.

Representative authors of hymns and readings include: Gerard Manley Hopkins, John Donne, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Graham Greene, John Masefield, e.e. cummings, John Milton, Thomas Merton, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, Dag Hammarskjold, T. S. Eliot, Eleanor Farjeon, William Shakespeare, Elinor Wylie ...

If you have not found the Liturgy of the Hours prayerful, consider this volume as an alternative. It is an excellent volume.

Daily Prayers for Busy People
I have used this book for three years. I am back to purchase an additional copy for my 18 year old daughter. I would like to buy it for all of my close family and friends-but won't until they ask! What is remarkable about O'Malley's book is the pertinence of the prayers, and the excellent selection of timeless poetry ( English majors- here's Donne, herbert, Pound, Tennyson, Dickinson, truly remarkable selections- artlessly placed throughout the month. Coupled with his own paraphrases of the psalms and a very direct personal and yet intelligent conversation with God- he usually gets me started by saying to God precisely what I was about to say myself, and lets me move on from there. The dailiness of it helps to form you. The book consists of a month's worth of prayers, three per day- each a short series of prayers, psalms and a selection from literature. Intended to be used in place of or the same way as a breviary. Everyone zI know who's used it, lives with it.

What a great way to end your day and sleep peacefully!
Daily Prayers for Busy People has just 30 days of prayers, but you won't be bored on even the 10th time around. The combination of simple and sophisticated, stimulating and soothing, makes this the one book that I always take along with me. O'Malley has the ability to touch the soul with just a few words

A read to remember
Entertaining, touching, thought-provoking, valuable. When Nancy and Mark meet, they join resources to continue on their individual odysseys. They want to get to the same approximate destination. William Kritlow wrote a powerful novel about these two individuals each on a life-changing mission, but neither knowing what the future holds. Driving Lessons is definitely a read to remember.

A Breakthru Book!
This is a very valuable approach to prayer. It helped me get deeper than the pre-scripted prayers that have become almost meaningless thru repetition. Most important, it showed me how to get past the boredom induced by reluctance to talk to God about my resentments and shortcomings.

a wonderful resrouce for anyone seeking to deepen their
prayer life. Fr. Barry has many years of experience as a spiritual director, and it all shines throguh in his writings. He is phenomenal, especiall for the fact that his writings are very down to earth and easy to understand.

Simple but profound
This first book of Bill Barry's is easy to read, but the reader will find many profound insights. Fr. Barry combins his interest and training in spiritual direction and his Ph.D. in psychology to answer basic questions on prayer. When I look back on this work after reading some of the authors other books or more accademic works I find that he said it all here. I'd strongly recommend this for any adult begining in prayer or any "old timer" who has limited themselves to the style of praying they learned as a child.
