The buses, trolleys, BART+est of Travel Books
Undoubtedly the most fun and most helpful travel book we have ever consulted. Have just returned from a wonderful week in this extraordinary city, made all the better by recommendations in "The Best of San Francisco." Instead of paying $200 at the conference hotel, we spent $79 at a small boutique hotel nearby everything, including the cable car, that was recommended in the "Proud Paupers" section. It could not have been nicer: impeccably clean, friendly staff, charming atmosphere, most comfortable hotel beds we have ever had, walking distance to shops, restaurants, galleries, everything you want is right in the neighborhood. We also used the "PP" section to select two wonderful ethnic restaurants - Thai and Indian. Both served delicious, savory meals, with large portions for small prices (under $6 in some cases). And provided interesting cultural experiences. In addition to pointing you in the right direction to enjoy San Francisco to the fullest, this book also tells you how to avoid major headaches, by recommending you do not, under any circumstances, drive a car in this city. We took that advice and were so glad we did! The best buy in town was also recommended, and that is a transportation pass at $15 for 7 days. You can ride any of the public transport, buses, trolleys, BART, and the famous cable cars. Before you take a trip to San Francisco, do yourself a favor and get a copy of this wonderful, down-to-earth little book. You will be glad you did!

The stories are short and interesting - perfect for kids. Not scary but fun stuff about the west and the days of cowboys, indians, and wagon trains.

A must-have book for Colorado 4x4 adventurists
Don Koch divides this book into geographic areas corresponding to Colorado's major mountain ranges. Each section outlines mountain passes within that section. Each of these passes are independantly revieved. Their locations, starting points, points of interest, difficulty, scenic interest and historic interest are given. He goes on to describe in detail for each pass his personal experiences on that pass and what you can expect. Also, he gives important hints about what to look out for and particular safety precautions for each particular pass as well as the side trails which spur off. I use this book as a reference manual on and off the trails and suggest anyone heading to the Colorado Rockys to buy this book. Many passes can be traversed via car/light truck and some require 4 wheel drive. This book will let you know which ones.

Beautiful Reproductions of Western Art
The Cowboy Artists of America Museum (now the National Center for American Western Art) was built several years ago near the location of the trails I rode as a teenager growing up in Kerrville, Texas. I visit the museum every time I am in Kerrville and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area. For years, I have wished for a book that contains a wide representation of the paintings of the members of the Cowboy Artists of America, and this book surpasses my greatest expectations. It is always a challenge to reproduce great art in book form, but Greenwich has done a superb job. The book is very well organized and contains interesting biographies of the artists, along with a collection of the paintings of each. I would recommend it without reservation to anyone interested in art, especially Western art. The reproductions are almost as breathtaking as the actual paintings, not an easy task to accomplish.

Great fun for the cowboy fan.
From the Earps to Eastwood; from the Alamo to the Ponderosa, this entertaining encyclopedia of the West will delight the cowboy fan and western movie buff alike.
Covered are significant places (e.g., Dodge City, The Alamo), events (The Little Big Horn battle, the gunfight at the O.K. Corral), cowboys both real and cinematic, desperados, Indians, rodeo stars, and hundreds of others guaranteed to make you long for the Open Range.
Generously illustrated, with bibliography and index, this work will be "a hoot 'n' a holler" for the fan of the Old West and its modern representations.

Best "Walking Tour" ever!
If you can go to San Francisco and take Don Herron's Hammett walking tour...do it! I promise you will be entertained, informed and exhausted (remember, SF is a city of hills.) Don is really an expert on the life and literary merits of Dashiell Hammett, especially the works he produced while a resident of this beautiful city by the bay. Over the many years that Don has guided this tour, he has uncovered (and willingly shares) many fascinating facts and factoids about Hammett and 1920s San Francisco. If your travels never take you there, however, this book is a worthy substitute. Beautifully produced and well-written, Don's book is perfect for the armchair traveller and any hard-boiled mystery buff.

Either you like it or you don't
I thought it was hilarious, but my kids just looked at me funny while I was reading it to them. Extremely educational, in a sort of offbeat way. Great illustrations. I can't believe the price! Your local library has a copy- check it out. That's where mine came from.

How to get from Here to There (and where to stop in between)
This book was one of the most important references my wife and I used on our passage from Seattle to Skagway. Not only did it give us ideas on where to go the next day, but where to hide in case the weather didn't cooperate. A must have reference for every boater cruising the Inside Passage.

Great Colorad Guide
This is a well written guide book that is really easy to use. If you want to read all about Colorado before you go it has an easy style and entertaining commentary that makes it an enjoyable and informative read. If, on the other hand, you just want to look up some information about what there is to do or see in a place you have just arrived in, the index and easy to read headings make this a quick and easy guide to use. It also contains some very current information about the area and includes web addresses to look up for further details about specific attractions. Restaurant recommendations are good - I tried out a few! Like other Frommers guides it has a good pull-out colour map and useful small street plans in the book. All in all I would give this book a thumbs up.
