The Hardest Crosswords You'll Ever See
I bought this book because I'm a huge fan of Mr. Lederer's work.

Little did I know it would destroy me!

The rules are a bit unclear in parts, however. While most of the puzzles are made of rhymes and puns, not every word in the puzzle falls into these categories. Sometimes you may be searching for the rhyme of your solution for an hour, then realize no rhyme is required.

It may not be for me, as I don't spend too much time with crosswords. However, if you consider yourself rather agile with your vocabulary, or a master of puns, this book will be a true test of your skill.

Awesome
Bought this for my mom, who is an avid, competitive crossworder.
She fell in love with this and had a hard time forcing herself
to put it down.

Theme puzzles abound
This crossword puzzle book provides a satisfying collection of crosswords by a 'word wizard' whose books on language both entertain and educate, and a puzzle constructor. Word Play Crosswords Volume 1 is recommended for advanced crossword puzzle solvers who want a greater challenge than most. Theme puzzles abound.

Numerology Magic: Use Number Squares for Love, Luck & Protection

Good Introduction to Magic Squares and Personal Yantras
I am totally new to magic squares and found this book to be educational. It teaches how to construct odd-numbered size magic squares and even-numbered sized magic squares (these two "types" involve different methods). Magic squares have the property that the sum of numbers vertically, horizontally and diagonally add up to the same value!

The bulk of the book is about numerological personal yantras (4 x 4 magic squares) which include the numbers in a person's date of birth. You will find it easy to follow the instructions to construct your own personal yantra and find out what it says about you. This book also teaches how to use yantras for love, luck and protection (as talisman).

If you know how to add and subtract whole numbers and understand simple English, following the instructions should be no problem as the methods are easy and adequate examples are given.

The author has intentionally left out negative yantras as he believes that yantras should not be used to cause harm or hurt to other people.

numerology magic
This is a very good book for those who want to know more about numerology. The squeres are exelent and it is easy to read.
I recomend it.

A Real Gem!
This petite book packs alot of useful information and literally sets you on a new way to look at numerology. Most people into new age stuff already knows how to reduce their personal numbers to read their luck and what have you. Here, the author genuinely imparts his secrets on using this method to not only reveal one's life's blueprint but sets the guidance for discovering one's own life purpose.

In addition, he imparts the knowledege of creating magical talismans using numbers and correspondences with the planetary influences to compensate for lacking areas in one's life in order to avert bad energies.

After completing this book, I felt a sense of respect and gratitude towards the author for sharing his wisdom and knowledge. It's not easy to find a good teacher these days. It's unfortunate that this book is out of print but I believe if enough people requested for it, it will be worth the publisher's effort to launch this gem back into the market. Meanwhile, I feel blessed to be able to own this treasure and I am using it to realign my life as much as I can believe it does.

Blessed Be.

excellent job but not finished yet
Richard Webster has done a marvellous job to show how fraudulent Freud really was. More revealing is that all ideas about the human psyche are to be questioned hereafter: the existence of defense mechanisms, existence of the death wish, the existence of the Ego, Superconscience and Id. If you ask me: nothing of these speculative concepts are really true. Webster shows quite convincingly the case against the 'diagnosis' conversion-hysteria. Still accepted in modern psychiatry but a complete misnomer: intrapsychic energy to be converted in physical pain/disorders, how? The whole Freudian thinking is still present in movies, television soaps and more frightening in forensic psychiatry, the military, national intelligence agencies, police departments. Obviously the 'dark side of mankind' has an extremely attractive side to it. What is frightening and disturbing is the fact that this whole conceptual pseudo-thinking about the human psyche (originated with Freud) really is a religionlike belief system. Very difficult to replace and really hindering better therapies for people who are suffering emotionally. Richard Webster's book should be thé textbook in psychology en psychiatry courses to show two things: 1. how our ideas about the human psyche and emotional system is largely based on a pseudo-theory and therefore a better alternative model of emotions and cognitions should be sought (for example in scientifically driven cognitive behaviour therapy).
2. how science really should work and should not work.
The strange thing is that Webster's book, to my knowledge, is nowhere in the world, really a textbook in psychology or psychiatry courses. Freud is still taught as if he has done some marvellous things and if some of his ideas are still correct. This is the most unbelievable thing of it all. And really frightening.

Riddle of the Sphinx, Riddle of Freud
One looks back on the Freudian age with as much wonder at its flourishing as its sudden demise. The confusions of psychoanalytic thinking and the poor foundations on which it was laid were always concealed in the humanistic insights that gave the theory appeal and seeming cogency in the reign of positivism. This brilliant disguise behind an incoherent metapsychology hides a theory that was a casualty of the impossible demands placed on a science of psychology by the demands of reductionist science. Finally, in the account of Webster, we see the fatal account of the details of record in Freud's early research whose great success seems more a brilliant feat of paradigm promotion than of any breakthrough in science. The oddity of Freud's thinking is and remains a mystery in itself. The legacy of the invisible strain of Schopenhauer botched is seldom seen here, and the source of confusion over the 'unconscious' can be instantly clarified by seeing this positivist nosedive of the earlier 'right sense of the noumenal self' and its unknowability. Perhaps this was the poignant ambition of the scientist triumphant here, where defeat was foreordained by the philosopher.

This book reads as a relief to anyone who survived the onslaught of this charming muddle with its impossible financial demands placed on the curse of being neurotic, even as one senses we have not heard the last of Freud. One might fault the conclusion where sociobiology is seen to come to the rescue with still another confusion of the basic issues in still another ambitious science whose fate will be another book like this one. But anyone who suffered the arm-twisting pretensions of this reign in thought will find a swift exit from the mesmerizing contradictions of Freud's theories. And yet a legacy of Freud remains as soon as the mind is freed to reconsider the issues from scratch without the fixation on certainty in the basic tenets. But for the moment it is important to simply a necessity to be free from the false claims and demands of what was an impostor theory, hard as it is to make that statement of one of the most enigmatic minds of the twentieth century. This book can be very helpful in simply moving on without looking back.

Freudian myths
Among Webster's many scholarly achievements in this meticulous and devastating examination of Freud's life and work, he exposes the extraordinary number of myths about Freud which abounded in the twentieth century. A minor one is that Einstein was a great admirer of Freud. This is erroneous. In a letter to one of his sons in the early 1930s Einstein wrote that he was unconverted by Freud's writings and believed his methods dubious - even fraudulent (cited in *The Private Lives of Albert Einstein*, by Roger Highfield and Paul Carter, p. 233).

Feng Shui for Beginners
Your book is intersting but contradictory to the bagua locations that Karen Carter and Lillian Too wrote. In fact the direction patterns are confusing the bagua locations are not clear. Is the placing of the bagua orientted to the entry from the front door like what Carter is saying or is it based on the compass directions of how your apartment is located. Your book mostly apply for a residential place and not to an apartment setting like the one that I have.

Excellent book!
After reading Webster's book on feng shui tips for the home and seeing how well things worked, I bought this book. It really explains things thoroughly. After reading it, I had a very good understanding of feng shui and we really use it to bring us most positive results. The two books really compliment each other. Webster really knows the art and as important, knows how to convey this knowledge. Its a good buy!

THE best book I've have ever read for the novice.
An absolutely wonderful book full of useful information. The author has put together an easily read text with practical advice. Not confusing like most feng shui books. It is THE best beginner's book on this subject that I have found. Once you have assimilated the basics, then you can go on to the more detailed tomes.

Sometimes less really is better.
What's great about this book is that about two-thirds of the poems and short prose works are very enjoyable, or are a promise of better things to come, or provide insight into Brautigan's mind and his adolescent experiences. What's not so great is that the rest is mediocre juvenalia which Brautigan might be embarrased to see in print. The other weakness of the book is that the works are just run together on the pages, with even some of the shortest pieces overlapping from page to page. It would have been far beter to have selected more judiciously and then printed only one work per page. The irony here is that Brautigan's other books follow such a format. Brautigan and his earlier editors showed some respect for his work and his readers that the current editors do not. Richard, you deserved better.

well I liked the layout, and laughed out loud too
With all due respect to other reviewers' gripes about having poems start and stop willy nilly regardless of page placement, I like these that way. The layout is not a distraction; it just fits the feel of having to work marginally harder at discovering treasure, even while sifting through some kid stuff that RB himself mightn't have cared to frame. It goes along with the unpolished beauty of this book. Anyway, it's a rare poet who can make you laugh out loud.

A Qualified 5
This collection of "Undiscovered Writings" is a gift given to those who love poetry and literature. The poetry in this book is delightfully quirky, surreal and sad in the way it describes both strange and common instances of fantasy and life. Brautigan has never been more consistent with his poetic message. This book is a step or two above his other poetic masterpiece "Rommel Drives On Deep Into Egypt."

So why "A Qualified 5"? Because the way the book is put together is disruptive to the poetry reader. With all due respect to the amount of undiscovered writing now available to the public, which I am very thankful, the cluttered way the poems are placed on the page result in disrupting the flow of reading the poems themselves. How about one poem a page? Those poems deserve to be presented in a creative space to reflect the creative place they were written in.

Not what I expected
I expected a careful, general overview of the various uses of technology in music. This book is clearly for a classroom that uses Macs and the specific software indicated. There is not one entry for Finale, nor microphone/recording techniques. The book is pretentious in its organization (academic music ed. types) and woefully lacking in providing the required general overview of concepts, and prefers to teach specific software applications, many of which are not mainstream.

Not the greatest
Not exactly the greatest book I've ever owned...the computer background information is woeful (I found 3 glaring mistakes in 70 pages of material by just skimming). The book has generally good information on the software it covers and a pretty good intro to MIDI.

Great Resource: Experiencing Music Technology
This is a great resource for a lot of people. Whethr you are a music teacher looking to enhance your music teachning with some technology, or you are a professor wanting a textbook for a music technology class you are teaching, this book has something worth-while. David B. Williams and Peter R. Webster are veterans in the field with many years' experience.

It was ok
I expected a lot more from this book, all the hype I heard from people about it didn't even compare to how poorly I feel it was put together, some of it was cool and his explainations of letters to your angels etc, but all n all it wasn't worth the buy.sorry I hate leaving bad reviews.

Angelic Delight........
i enjoyed this book tremendously. i read it straight thru..
Webster explains a lot about Angels (especially the Archangels) and spirit guides. He goes into the differences between Angelic helpers and spirit guides and gives meditation exercises to help put you into contact with both. There is one particular ritual in the book for invoking all 4 Archangels that was absolutely wonderful! It was my first experience in working with the Archangels and i definately felt their presence. It was a pure blessing.

i have read many books on Angels and Spirit Guides and do highly reccommend this one, but if you are a beginner, it may be best to read another book first or familiarize yourself (research) the Archangels first.........

Definately a welcomed source to the Angel section of my library..

Spirit Guides & Guardian Angels: Contact Your Invisible
"Basically, we are magnets who attract to ourselves whatever we think about," Richard Webster writes in his latest book, Spirit Guides & Guardian Angels: Contact Your Invisible Helpers. The good news is that we have helpers waiting to assist us in attracting abundance, radiance, and happiness to our lives. Webster says that "we all have a veritable army of special beings who are working all the time to help us achieve our goals and become successful." His book is a guide to recognizing and welcoming those special beings into our lives.

Webster traces the history of angels and spirit guides from antiquity forward, citing several references to angels in the Bible. He explains that, although angels can appear in human form if they want to, "they are not the souls of people who have died, unlike spirit guides, who are "people who have passed over into the next life."

The book is filled with specific tips on how to contact your invisible helpers. He also details what you should say and do once you've made contact. It is possible to contact "mischievous" spirits, and he recommends asking if the spirit you've contacted is from God before listening to it.

Webster emphasizes that learning to listen to and heed the small voice inside is of primary importance.

He provides guidelines for starting a "psychic circle," whereby a group of people interested in spiritual growth can practice contacting spirit guides.

Webster lectures and conducts workshops internationally in addition to writing magazine columns and more than 35 books. Readers searching for spiritual help will find Spirit Guides and Angel Guardians invaluable.

It works, but...
Yes, the tips in this book DO help you to see auras. Let me make it easy for you. Cross your eyes for a second and look above someones head. Tah Dah!! Is that an aura? Okay, let's say it is.

My issue with the book is that it also presented other "paranormal" actives which have been disproved, as fact. ie. dowsing.

Do yourself a favor. Before reading/buying this book read something by The Amazing Randy.

Not as good as Smith's book
If you really want a failsafe way to see the aura, I recommend Mark Smith's book "Auras- See Them In Just 60 Seconds". It's also on Llewellyn, and is more entertaining as well. Webster's book isn't bad, it's just not in the same class as Smith's.

It got me going on aura reading when other books failed
This book gave drills on how to TOUCH and feel and aura that worked well for me. I found I could really percieve this. It also explained the various layers of the aura, and I was surprised in this that I have always been able to see one part - the spiritual aura - as sort of a glow. I thought I wasn't really seeing auras because I couldn't see colors! Ater reading the book, I walked around malls and other places to look at people. Out of all those people, I succeeded in seeing only TWO auras. A man with a yellow aura, and a woman with a pink one. That's not much, but it's a start.

There was stuff in there about numerology that did not work for me. According to Kirlian photograhpy I have an indigo aura. According to numerology, I have a gold aura. Shucks. Gold is prettier!

I got the book from a library, and am considering purchasing a copy for myself because I found the information about the various colors was sufficiently useful to become a reference.

What Your Face Reveals: Chinese Secrets of Face Reading

Interesting but unimpressive.
Nothing new here and I don't think there is any substantial research to back up the concept. It is mostly wishful thinking, creative fiction and hokem. Pretty much a waste of time.

A little too tough to decipher...
This is the second such book I have bought on the subject of Face Reading. The illustrations were difficult to follow and it's tough for the reader to develop a "user friendly" guide after completion. Rather, I suggest that you try "The Naked Face" by Young, which was far easier to interpret. Sure, if one were a practioner for 2 decades, then they could decipher the illustrations, but the learning curve was rather steep. Give the other book a glance, that's my opinion.

Very Interesting
This is a very good book if you are interested in face reading. It holds a lot of interesting information and detail about the face, eyes, nose, eyebrows, lips, etc. The reason why I didn't rate it as 5 stars is because the illustrations look the same to me and its really hard to tell the difference between certain shapes. More realistic pictures instead of drawings would do the trick.
