Reconstructing a culture entirely from religious art
Mesoamerican archaeology is a little world by itself - I know, because I used to live in it. It has a very cosy relationship with museums and the "art" collectors who buy the objects that are looted from archaeological sites, which lie destroyed, torn into shreds under the forests all over Central America and Mexico. But it has almost no touch with reality any more. The things they say about the ancient Olmec are almost fantasy, because in truth we know so little about these people. Almost all the objects in this book were stolen from Mexico, ripped from the archaeological context that might tell us something about their real meaning. These are probably religious articles - we may never know. But imagine trying to reconstruct the rich life of rennaisance Italy by looking at reliquaries in Catholic churches! If you are still persuaded by the "mysterious Olmec" propaganda spouted by Coe and his looter buddies, go read Flannery & Marcus in the first 2000 issue of the Journal of Anthropological Archaeology, and think it over.

A Must Have for any Olmec Enthusiast
The Olmec World is an amazing resource for those who study or have an appreciation of early Mesoamerican Art. At its most basic level The Olmec World is the catalogue of the 1996 Olmec Exhibition at the Art Museum at Princeton University the first comprehensive show of Olmec art in America. Drawing upon nearly all of the major Olmec museum collections in North America from Dunbarton Oaks to Princeton's own expansive holdings, the exhibition also drew heavily from many private collections never before shown to the general public. For instance, John Stokes' amazing collection of ceramic babies and jade masks are showcased in this catalogue. However, almost as impressive as the pictures are the essays in this collection. Michael Coe has done a marvelous job of soliticing and editing a myriad of papers on the mysterious Olmec.

Destruction and reconstruction : personal experiences of the late war

Genl Taylor has his say...
Genl Richard Taylor offers his insights of the "late unpleasantness". Unlike too many other popular civil war personalities who wrote first-hand accounts, Taylor usually avoids the name-calling and back-stabbing others seem to readily participate in. His immediate supervisor, Genl Edmund Kirby Smith, however, doesn't fare too well by Taylor's standards. Taylor holds Smith responsible for failing to allow him the necessary reinforcements needed to route Banks in the Red River Campaign (North Louisiana). Taylor indeed offers a unique perspective, as the son of Zachary Taylor, as well as having served in the Eastern and Western Theaters. A well-bred, highly educated man, Taylor's writing is filled with allusions to Classic Literature and military folk-lore, which is often muddlesome. Also annoying is the lack of ANY maps -a real problem when discussion of the various bayous, rivers and small towns fill page after page. Definately recommended for those of Confederate ilk - especially his remarks on post-war happenings.

Eisenstein In His Own Words
This book is a compilation of what Richard Taylor considers to be Eisenstiein's most important and relevant writing, not only on film but also on Russian history, politics, and Eisenstein's eclectic influences. While I think the book is very well put together, Eisenstein's writing itself can be esoteric and hard for the reader to decipher. However, if you can get past Eisenstein's puzzling language, you can glean a great deal of valuable insight into the work of a man who has been called one of the most influential directors of all time. I was most interested in Eisenstein's writings on other art forms that informed his film making, particularly Kabuki theatre and Japanese Haiku. However, if this is your first time reading about Soviet cinema, I would recommend starting with some of Taylor's other works such as The Film Factory or Inside the Film Factory.

First Solo Flight Around the World-The story of Wiley Post
This book is the telling of the life and adventures of Wiley Post. It is written in the style of a documentary. Black and white photographs help to tell the story as do the added maps and documents. The personality of Wiley Post, as well as his hopes, dreams, and fears are not shared with the reader. A glimpse of the times is seen and that helps to set this event in history. This is more of a book to help write a report than to enjoy reading.

Very informative, pertinent truths
Taylor gives very detailed views of the atonement. He shares several different theories on the atonement and proceeds to give argumentative reasons to views that contradict his own. Although the book is easy to understand for the most part, if you are a newer student in the area of God's atonement, I would strongly recommend an in depth study of the atonement along with this book.

What a Lousy Book!!!
This is the worst book I have read so far. There are so many errors in the book! And all descriptions about J2ME are vague. It's really a pity that I spent my money on this useless book.
Don't buy this book!!!

Don't expect too much on this book
If you are a developer and eager to find resource on Java Mobile development, this book must disappoint you. This book just give you a general java mobile concept. May be this technology is too green so that all topics are not in depth to discuss with very limited examples.

The worse of this book is some examples just show the source code only with no any demonstration of the program running or even the complied result and that made people hard to understand what the source code mean.

If you see the content that this book cover MIDP for Palm. Don't believe this, this book is only cover the early stage of java KVM in Palm but not included the current Sun MIDP for Palm OS

Great coverage and good case studies
I found this book very useful for getting to grips with the wide range of technologies available for Java platform on mobile devices. It's strong point is the breadth of subjects covered and not the depth. However, if like me, you prefer to get on to a quick start and the get deeper into the subject on a "as needed" basis this book will provide it. It got me up to date and able to continue on my own from the first three chapters.
If you are already an experienced J2ME developer then the case studies will show how others have tackled some J2ME problems. If you are a beginner then you will get a complete treatment of the range of technologies.

Light, Dated, Error Filled, Not Very Well Done.
Until O'Reilly comes out with a UniCenter book, this is sadly all you will be able to buy. Typical Que coverage of a topic; lighthearted, outdated, whimsicle, and very worthless. I have reviewed many Que 'Pulp-Computer' publications and this one is on par with what they have produced in the past. UniCenter is a complex topic and this book completely misses the boat. If you are studying for a UniCenter designation or are implimenting UniCenter at your site, you will surely fail to find any meaningful answers in this worthless waste of trees. I have both implimented CA UniCenter and have taken the certification exams and can tell you that you will find no help in this book.

Not a useful book, but not many alternatives either...
This book is fine for explaining Unicenter to a Manager/Directory and for getting an overview, but is USELESS in trying to gain deeper understanding of the product from a systems engineering point of view. The number of good quality screen shots is a nice touch, although the material is hopelessly outdated.

There don't appear to be many titles available on Unicenter, which is unfortunate because it is an extremely powerful and scalable enterprise management tool. Still, I would only recommend this book for managers and directors, not for systems engineers.

Unicenter Starter Kit
This is a VERY generic beginning manual for Unicenter. If you are looking for explanations of how to do something, this is not the book for you. This book for the most part tells what the application can do but does not give any examples of how to do it.

When will I learn to read the reviews FIRST??
Actually, I would have probably bought this book if I had read the reviews beforehand. I worked and lived at the Moulin Rouge for a few years in the early 60's...that time period is not mentioned at all in Mr.Taylor's book! It was a most interesting place at the time...a cast of very colorful characters made it their home...to this day I believe some of the residents were in what we call today the Witness Protection Program.

I was saddened by the recent fire at the MR, not only for the historical value of the hotel, but for my own personal history as well. The book is strictly one of a kind and unless someone writes something better in the wake of the fire, it is all we have to remember her by!

The only reference out there.
If you want to know what the Moulin Rouge Hotel and Casino was, this book will tell you. If you want greater detail, you have to do your own search. There is not a lot of information regarding the Moulin Rouge, in general, but if you are a casino fan and love Las Vegas, this book is a must.

You need to be really interested
The book is basically 3 pages from the author, a 13 page excerpt from a paper by Roosevelt Fitzgerald at the University of Nevada, and the remainder is bad copies of newpaper clippings. The pictures are particularly hard to make out. If you have a intense interest in finding about th MR, this may be the best source, but don't expect a traditional history. For example, the author managed the place for period of time, but there about about 4 sentences relating to that experience.

Waste of your time and money
This book is weak... it doesn't even make a good review. Your time and money is better spent on trancenders.

You'll get more networking knowledge from the back of a milk carton.

This Book Will Confuse and Bemuse
This book actually got me confused when I read it after taking the Microsoft Official Curriculum course. I thought I understood most everything at the end of the MOC course. Then while studying for the exam I read this Exam Cram and found myself in a worse position. Week areas of the book include IPSec, security, remote access and routing.

I found the book so unsatisfactory that I read and studied the Syngress/Osborne 216 book just get my bearings again. Wish I could return the Exam Cram book to Coriolis, but wouldn't you know it -- they just went out of business.

Use this as intended and you'll pass
I passed 216 today on the first try with this exam cram, the MS Press study guide, and the Resource Kit. The basics are all covered well. IPSEC was covered well, at least as well as you need to know for the exam. This is worth the money, although admittedly it could have been a little stronger in one or two areas (Certificate Server being one of those).

Before you buy it, though, make sure you understand one thing - All of the exam crams have one goal: to be used as your study guide AFTER you've spent about a month using other materials. They were never intended to be sole study guides. For instance, this one doesn't go into subnetting because you're SUPPOSED TO ALREADY KNOW HOW TO DO IT! Instead, it tells you how to use the subnetted addresses...get the picture?

Not much help.
We were trying to replace the heater core, the instructions were foggy to say the least. Further repairs or maintenance just as foggy, its a good book if you have a lot of experience with repairing the vehicle and don't need a how to. Amazingly the "Ford Tempo Mercury Topaz 1984-94" book by Mark Christman, which is by the same company, was a lot better for repairs and maintenance. But neither book helped with replacing the heater core, we eventually used other resources for more ideas on how to actually get to the heater core to get it out.

Limited scope, sometimes wrong.
I've used this book for nearly three years now, and keep wondering why I go back to it. (Actually, it's because it's the only Tempo/Topaz book I own.) I have found several major errors in the illustrations, usually due to showing a 2.0 engine setup as a 2.3 or vice versa. Some instructions, like how to change a water pump, are just plain wrong. Electrical schematics, particularly of the instrument cluster are sketchy to the point of being useless when troubleshooting anything other than a hard failure. I suspect that much of the text in this book was a quickie cut-and-paste job of info that pertained to these same components as installed in other Ford products. It really doesn't do justice to the model-specific problems of navigating the limited space of the engine compartment or tracing an intermittent electrical circuit. Proofreading was spotty at best. It's better than doing a repair job blind, but not by much.

Disappointed
Chilton's Ford Tempo and Mercury Topaz Repair Manual 1984-94 is not for the average car owner. It is probably not even for the average mechanic. It is written in difficult language and at times seems to display unnecessarily complicated methods of performing simple tasks. From beginning to index it offers low quality information and instruction. There are too many diagrams and not enough photos. The photos available are poor. Overall this book was not very useful to me. I have used the Haynes manual for the same car and found it much more useful.
