Know Your Walther P-38 Pistols
An excellent resource. Another Hoffscmidt gem for the bookcase. Truly an "Owner's Manual", it discusses dates of manufacture, changes by year, various manufacturers, ammunition, markings; everything you would want to know about the P-38. I highly recommend this guide for the Walther owner.

Average review score:

The most important book written in the 19th century.
After reading this book you will never look at the Bible in the same way. The distinctions between law and gospel presented here are not only gleaned from the Bible but also provide details as to why Lutheran sermons are quite different than other sermons. Most leaders in the LCMS regard this book as the most important series of lectures every put into print by a president of the church body.

Back cover of book
This is a story of hope and healing, combining first-hand experiences with sickness, life, and death of a baby, with messages of strength straight from God's word. The story is interwoven with Old Testament stories and related Bible verses. Congratulations and sympathy cards are all rolled up into one tiny bundle of twins. Each chapter ends with "MY God is bigger than..." to give readers a stance to reflect upon and reassurance before reading further. The focus is on Satan's harm turned into God's goodness. The author simultaneously experiences grief and joy. Facing more sickness and hospitals, a mother's anguishing hell turns into a haven of healing. She continues to go through mourning with hope, reclaiming lost joy and living out a life of empathy for others. The story challenges one to overcome circumstances and place life ultimately in God's hands.

Outstanding light hobby reading!
I was given this book as a gift and have found it to be a joy to read. Although possessed of only a rudimentary background in mathematics and science, as befits a humble Afghani peasant like myself, I found the text's advanced calculus to be refreshingly comprehensible, in that I found the same symbols repeated frequently on each page.

Simple and Wonderful
"Other Pictures" is another great book from Twin Palms Publishers. It is a collection of snap shots by anonymous photographers. It is the perfect book for anyone who has lost hours at flee-markets or junk stores pouring over vintage photographs. I gave this book to an artist friend and got rave reviews. The collector who put these picutres together seem to have a wonderful sense of humor and a real love of "Happy accidents." The pictures found within are a pleaseure. It reminds me of the pictures that didn't make it into the family album - but tell the real story.

Lao's review
A small but scholarly book on folk religions as practiced in Mongolia. Includes the pantheon (including a sub chapter on the Chinghis Khan cult), prayers and blessings. There are also a few black and white renderings of the most typical types of shamans and their tools. A very nice bibiography is included at the end. This was a nice book to find as I had not expected to find such a concise work on such an ecclectic subject.

Exchanging the Dark Ages for Enlightenment
Religious Naturalism will set the direction for humanity to follow for the eternal milleniums. The book takes us on a trip from the origins of supernaturalist belief systems to the present day of most of those with a supreme being as the cult center for worshipping. (An invisible being. One of the most destructive ideas invented by the clergy & politicians of history past). From a remark noted in The History of Civilization by Will Durant. Special scientifically educated & trained Naturalist Guides will replace the supernaturalist clergy, because supernaturalists deal with the promotion of a mythological, fiction, and fraudulent belief system, in order to control every human being on the planet for thesupernaturalists religious empires. Whereas Education the Sciences & Evolution ideas will replace the Genesis stories of the so-called "holy books." This book encourages the use of the some of the organizations social services structure in order to fill the needs of its congregations, and to improve the images of the people to themselves. There is no fear, obescience, or guilt trip to live with, every idea may be questioned, and aired in public, as sciences must do.

I encourage every human being on the planet that may want to create more humane societies to read this book for its forward looking ideas, and want to participate in this grand experience for im- proving our own societies. It not only points out problems and damage created by supernaturalist belief in our societies, but also the solutions to implement change with the ideas of Religious Naturalism. I encourage to order this marvelous book today, a life time opportunity.

Servant of the Word: The Life and Ministry of C.F.W. Walther
Published in Hardcover by Concordia Publishing House (2001)
Author: August Robert Suelflow
Amazon base price: $23.99
Average review score:

Excellent Biography of America's Premier Lutheran
Suelflow dedicated a life to the history of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. He is now also is the author of the definite biography of one of (if not the greatest) Lutheran of America's short history.

Walther was such a leader of Lutheranism in America. While other capitualte to the new spirit of American Christianity and give into all kinds of cultural pressures, Walther maintained his faith. As he did in Germany, he came to this country to be able to freely worship and preach without governmental pressure.

Suelflow gives many insights into this man used so highly by God to Serve His Word. Remarkable in its entirey is the sermon Walther preached at the dedication of the Seminary in St. Louis in 1883, here for the first time translated into English. Much is still so pertinent and applcable for today: "In this house the doctrine of the Reformation is not to be reformed again, but guarded and defended." "In short, the so-called Lutheran church in our land was at that time dead, the laughing-stock of the sects who, similarly to hungry birds of the night, dividied the carcass among themselves." "When our Synod took to the field at that time with the unheard of watchword "God's Word and Luther's doctrine pure shall to eternity endure," it was not only the anti-Christian papacy, not only the syncretistic, unionistic evangelical fellowship, not only the fanactical sects but especially all the elements of the so-called Lutheran church in this country which attacked our Synod with the greatest bitterness as a new "old Lutheran" sect, which would lead to ruin."

Wonderful section on (as Suelflow describes it) "a favorite myth in synodical history is that the so-called "autoonomu" paragraph has been a part of the Synod's consititution ever since the founding of the Synod in 1847" he shows to be just that, a myth. Also, is Walther's continual efforts for concord among Christians, especially American Lutherans and his output of work, especially publications.

Destined to be the classic on this great American Lutheran.
